  • sql to compare two strings in MS access

    I am trying to compare a series of strings like the following rodeo rodas carrot crate GLX GLX 1.1 GLX glxs the comparision need not be case sensitive i am trying to write a sql where i am updating the first string with the second string if they match approximately. Here except the second string all the other examples match. I would like to write a query which updates the strings except the second one. is this possible directly in a query in ACCESS thanks

  • Find and replace table/field names in Access?

    I've been handed a rather large, old, and crusty Access 2000/2003 database to clean up. I'll need to rename a number of tables and fields, but need to do so in a way that doesn't break existing queries. (Fortunately, there are no macros, forms, or reports to worry about.) I've heard there are some commercial tools to make this job easier, but only found one (http://www.rickworld.com/products.html). Can anyone recommend this software, or any alternatives?

    I've an access database table with 3 fields : Purchase date Warranty time Warranty expiry Warranty time has 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 in it which corresponds to years. How can I auto-populate the 'Warranty expiry' field (which is a date field) by looking at the 'Purchase date' and then adding on the 'Warranty time' (warranty time will be 1 = 365 days, 2 = 730 days, etc)?

    I have an access report that generates 36505 pages (un filtered, and about half of each page is taken up by group headers and page headers) , though the footer at the bottom of the report page says "36505 of -29031". This looks like an overflow problem maybe, though I'm confused how it got the current page number of the last page OK, but failed to get total page count. Has anyone dealt with this before?

    i have the following access sql statement: SELECT * FROM (SELECT [Occurrence Number], [Occurrence Date], [1 0 Preanalytical (Before Testing)], [Cup Type], NULL as '2 0 Analytical (Testing Phase)', [2 0 Area], NULL,NULL FROM [Lab Occurrence Form] WHERE NOT ([1 0 Preanalytical (Before Testing)] IS NULL) in this: NULL as '2 0 Analytical (Testing Phase)' when it displays the column it shows the single quote. if i remove the quote completely it gives me an error, if i use double quotes it shows me the double quotes in the resulting table is it possible to not have it show any quotes?

The adjustments take place only at the bottom and right side.     I am trying to fire this query in MS Access SELECT file_number, IIF(invoice_type='Spent on Coding',SUM(CINT(invoice_amount)), 0) as CodingExpense FROM invoice GROUP BY file_number I am getting this error Error in list of function arguments: '=' not recognized. Unable to parse query text. I tried replacing IIF with SWITCH to no avail. What's wrong with my query and how to correct this?

It's not one I've written myself but the spec for the delimited text file is set up properly and the file imports properly using the wizard. When I try to use the import functions of the app itself, the ImportError table tells "Field Truncation" for one of the fields. Any help would be appreciated.

I simply want to create a dropdown list in Access so that upon selection I can perform some action based on the value of the selection. Question is about our DAL layer we wanted a clean and easily maintained Data access layer, We wanted go with Entity Framework 4.1. So still not clear about what to opt for Plain ADO.Net using DAO and DAOImpl methodolgy or Entity Framework. Could any one please suggest the best approach.
