  • Windows forms designer renaming copy/pasted controls

    I saw a similar question asked and answered for ASP.net here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/484327/how-do-i-prevent-visual-studio-from-renaming-my-controls But I am trying to prevent this while writing a Windows forms app in VS 2008 using c#. I want to copy/paste a ton of controls without them being called Checkbox1 etc. I'd rather rename them manually since its only a small change to the name.

I've never used this approach before and I'm trying to figure something out: Normally, I always just displayed the posted form again when there were validation errors and displayed POST values in the form (sticky form). However with the PRG pattern, the form is displayed after a redirect, so there aren't any POST values. So my question is, how can I implement the PRG pattern and still have sticky forms?

  • ASP.NET 2.0 and 4.0 seem to treat the root url differently in Forms Authentication

    If have the following web.config: <configuration> <system.web> <authentication mode="Forms"> <forms name="MembershipCookie" loginUrl="Login.aspx" protection="All" timeout="525600" slidingExpiration="true" enableCrossAppRedirects="true" path="/" /> </authentication> <authorization> <deny users="?" /> </authorization> </system.web> <location path="Default.aspx"> <system.web> <authorization> <allow users="*"/> </authorization> </system.web> </location> </configuration> The application is an ASP.NET 2.0 application running on Windows 2008R2/IIS7.5. If the site's application pool is configured to run ASP.NET 2.0 and I browse to http://example.com then Default.aspx is rendered as you'd expect from the rules above. However if the application pool is set to run ASP.NET 4.0 I am redirected to the login page. If I explicitly specify http://example.com/default.aspx then all is good and default.aspx renders. I've tried rewriting / -> /default.aspx (using IIS UrlRewriter 2.0) but the result is still the same, I get kicked to the login page. I've also tried this with an ASP.NET 4.0 application with the same result (which is where the problem initially arose). The reason I tried this with a 2.0 application was to see if there was a change in behaviour, and it seems that / is handled differently in 4.0. So to summarise, using the configuration above the following is observed: ASP.NET Version Url Behaviour ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.0 http://example.com Renders Default.aspx 2.0 http://example.com/Default.aspx Renders Default.aspx 4.0 http://example.com Redirects to Login.aspx 4.0 http://example.com/Default.aspx Renders Default.aspx Is this a bug/breaking change or have I missed something glaringly obvious?

  • iis7 integrated mode asp.net 4.0 forms authentication problem using IE8

    Anyone experience any issues with IIS7, integrated mode forms authentication while using IE8? I have a website with a login form, once logged in, any postback causes the user to be logged out. This doesn't even happen consistently, sometimes I can login and not experience this issue, other times it happens instantly. I can not replicate the problem in any other browser and I cannot replicate on my development machine running / debugging vs2010.

    I'm using Forms authentication in ASP.NET MVC website and I store user account login name in AuthCookie like this: FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(account.Login, false); I want to ask if there is a possibility that user on client side will somehow manage to change his login name in AuthCookie and thus he will be for example impersonated as someone with higher privileges and authorized to do more actions than he is normally supposed to have. Also is it better to save in this cookie user account login name or user account ID number?

  • Webcast Q&A: Los Angeles Department of Building & Safety Lowers Customer Service Costs with Oracle WebCenter

    This week we had the fifth webcast in our WebCenter in Action webcast series, "Los Angeles Department of Building & Safety Lowers Customer Service Costs with Oracle WebCenter", where customers Giovani Dacumos and Minh Ong from the Los Angeles Department of Building & Safety (LADBS), and Sheetal Paranjpye and Rajiv Desai from Oracle Partner 3Di, shared how Oracle WebCenter is powering LADBS' externally facing website and providing a superior self-service experience for their customers. We asked the speakers to provide some dialogue for Q&A.   Giovani Dacumos, Director of Systems and Minh Ong, LADBS Q: Did you run into any issues when integrating all of the different applications together?A: Yes. We did have issues integrating a secure sign on between the portal and other legacy applications. We used portlets and iframes to overcome those.  This is a new technology for us and we are also learning as we go so there were a lot of challenges in developing and implementing our vision. Q: What has been the biggest benefit your end users have seen?A: The biggest benefit for our ends users is ease-of-use. We've given them a system that provided a new and improved source of information, as well as a very organized flow of transaction processing. It has made our online service very user friendly. Q: Was there any resistance internally when implementing the solution? If so, how did you overcome that?A: There was no internal resistance during the implementation, only challenges. As mentioned earlier, this is a new technology for us. We've come across issues that needed assistance from Oracle. Working with 3Di and Oracle has helped us tremendously to find solutions to our implementation issues. Q: Given the performance, what do you estimate to be the top end capacity of the system? A: With the current performance and architecture we have, we are able to support approx 300-400 concurrent users.  We would need more hardware to support additional user load. Q: What's the overview or summary of feedback from the users interacting with the site?A: LADBS has a wide spectrum of customers, from simple users like homeowners to large construction firms. Anything new that we offer could be a little bit challenging for some, but overall, the customers liked it. They saw a huge improvement on the usability. Q: Can you describe the impressions about the site before and after the project within LADBS?A: The old site was using old technology and it was hard for us to keep on building into it as we got more business requirements. It made our application seem a bit complicated.  It was confusing for our new customers to use and we've improved on this with the new site. It's now easier for them to complete their transactions and, at the same time, allowed us to provide more useful information. Sheetal Paranjpye and Rajiv Desai, 3Di Q: Did you run into any obstacles when implementing the solution?A: Yes we did run into some obstacles. One of the key show stoppers was the issue with portlet to portal communication. The GIS viewer (portlet) needed information to be passed  to and from Permit LA (Portal), but we were able to get everything configured and up and working quickly! Q: Was there a lot of custom work that needed to be done for this particular solution?A: We have done some customizations where workflows/ Task flows are involved.  Q: What do you think were the keys to success for rolling out WebCenter?A: Having a service oriented architecture and using portlets have been the key areas for rolling out Oracle WebCenter at LADBS. The Oracle WebCenter Content integration allows the flexibility to business users to maintain the content, which has really cut down on the reliance of IT, and employee productivity has increased as a result.   • Tips &amp; Tricks: How to crawl a SSL enabled Oracle E-Business Suite

    Oracle E-Business Suite can be integrated with Oracle Secure Enterprise Search for a superior end user experience and enhanced data retrieval capabilities. Before end-users can perform search operations, data has to be crawled and indexed into Oracle SES server. However if the Oracle E-Business Suite instance is on SSL, some additional configurations are needed in Oracle SES server as well as in Oracle Search Modeler, before a search object can be deployed and crawled. The process involves the following steps: Step 1: Export the SSL certificate of Oracle E-Business Suite Access the Oracle E-business Suite instance from a web browser. You should be able to locate a security or certificate icon somewhere in the browser toolbar or status bar, depending on which browser you are using. Click on it and you should be able to view the certificate as well as export it to a local file. While exporting make sure that you use “DER encoded” format. Step 2: Import the SSL certificate into Oracle Secure Enterprise server’s java key-store Oracle SES (10.1.8.4) by default ships a JDK under $ORACLE_HOME. The Oracle SES mid-tier uses this jdk to start the oc4j container services. In this step the Oracle E-Business Suite’s SSL certificate which has been exported in step #1, has to be imported into the Oracle SES server’s java key store. Perform the following: Copy the certificate file onto the server where Oracle SES server is running; under $ORACLE_HOME/jdk/jre/lib/security/cacerts. “ORACLE_HOME” points to the Oracle SES oracle home. Set the JAVA_HOME environment variable to $ORACLE_HOME/jdk. Append $JAVA_HOME/bin to the PATH environment variable Issue the command :  “keytool -import -keystore keystore.jks -trustcacerts -alias myOHS –file ebs.crt” . Please substitute “ebs.crt” with the name of the certificate file you copied in step #2.1. The default key-store password “changeit”. Enter the same when prompted. If successful this process will end with a message saying “certificate successfully imported”. Step 3: Import the SSL certificate into Search Modeler java key-store Unlike Oracle SES, Search Modeler is not shipped with a bundled JDK. If you are using standalone OC4J, then you actually use an external JDK to start the oc4j container services. If you are using IAS instance then the JDK comes bundled with the IAS installation. Perform the following: Copy the certificate file onto the server where Search Modeler application is running; under $JDK_HOME/jre/lib/security/cacerts. “JDK_HOME” points to the JDK directory depending on whether you are using external JDK or a bundled one. Set the JAVA_HOME environment variable to JDK directory. Append $JAVA_HOME/bin to the PATH environment variable Issue the command :  “keytool -import -keystore keystore.jks -trustcacerts -alias myOHS –file ebs.crt” . Please substitute “ebs.crt” with the name of the certificate file you copied in step #3.1. The default key-store password “changeit”. Enter the same when prompted. If successful this process will end with a message saying “certificate successfully imported”. Once you have completed the above steps successfully, you can deploy the search objects using Search Modeler and then start crawling them as well.
