  • SharePoint 2010: Architecture and Planning information

    Recently I have been delivering Design and Planning Sessions at client sites, and as of recent SharePoint 2010 has been part of that mix. After the activity that goes on during those sessions getting towards the end of them is always a cross roads for clients.  Why?  Because it is time to kick the wheels.  Remind them, and remember, this is not a 1 or 4 weeks ordeal.  This has to be very well planned.     I'm having some problems with Edit and Continue when using Visual Studio 2010 on a Windows 7 64 bit machine. I've ensured the following Edit and Continue is enabled under ToolsOptionsDebuggingEdit and Continue My solution platform is set to x86 My solution configuration is set to Debug All my projects are building for Debug and x86 For all projects under ProjectsPropertiesBuild the Optimize code is unchecked When I hit a break point and try to edit I and confronted with the following message. This is happening for me for all projects that I create whether they are WPF/Win Forms/VB.NET/C#/.NET 4/.NET 3. Any ideas?

  • Will Visual Studio 2010 only run 4.0 unit tests?

    I have different projects written in .NET 3.5 and some unit test projects to cover them. When converting my solution to be used in Visual Studio 2010 I keep all my projects in 3.5 but the unit tests are forced to 4.0? This way I cannot use them with my regular projects anymore. Resulting in this: Could not load file or assembly 'xxx.xxx.Core.UnitTest' or one of its dependencies. This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded. So I can't unit test any project less then 4.0? Or am I doing something wrong here?

  • Boost in Visual Studio 2010, IntelliSense error

    Hello, I would like to see if you could orient me. It happens that I compiled and referenced the boost libraries in order to use them with Visual Studio 2010. When building my test project I get these two IntelliSense errors 1 IntelliSense: #error directive: "Macro BOOST_LIB_NAME not set (internal error)" c:\boost_1_43_0\boost\config\auto_link.hpp 2 IntelliSense: #error directive: "some required macros where not defined (internal logic error)." c:\boost_1_43_0\boost\config\auto_link.hpp Checking the auto_link.hpp header file the first error is in this line #ifndef BOOST_LIB_NAME # error "Macro BOOST_LIB_NAME not set (internal error)" #endif Tracing the definition of BOOST_LIB_NAME, it seems that is defined in config.hpp by boost_regex, which code I am including below #if !defined(BOOST_REGEX_NO_LIB) && !defined(BOOST_REGEX_SOURCE) && !defined(BOOST_ALL_NO_LIB) && defined(__cplusplus) # define BOOST_LIB_NAME boost_regex # if defined(BOOST_REGEX_DYN_LINK) || defined(BOOST_ALL_DYN_LINK) # define BOOST_DYN_LINK ... more code and strangely when I point to BOOST_LIB_NAME it defines BOOST_LIB_NAME and the IntelliSense errors disappear. My program builds and executes fine using the Boost:Regex library -- with or without the Intellisense errors; however, I do not understand why these IntelliSense errors appear in the first place, and second why pointing the macro in the config.hpp defines BOOST_LIB_NAME.   • Should we use Visual Studio 2010 for all SQL Server Database Development?

    Our company currently has seven dedicated SQL Server 2008 servers each running an average of 10 databases. All databases have many stored procedures and UDFs that commonly reference other databases both on the same server and also across linked servers. We currently use SSMS for all database related administration and development but we have recently purchased Visual Studio 2010 primarily for ongoing C# WinForms and ASP.NET development. I have used VS2010 to perform schema comparisons when rolling out changes from a development server into production and I'm finding it great for this task. We would like to consider using VS2010 for all database development going forward but as far as I understand, we would have to set up ALL databases as projects because of the dependencies on linked servers etc. My question is, do you have any experience using VS2010 for database development in a similar environment? Is it easy to use in tandem with SSMS or is it a one way street once VS2010 projects have been set up for all databases? Can you make any recommendations/impart any experience with a similar scenario? Thanks, Luke

    In Visual Studio 2010, I have a number of unit tests. When I run multiple tests at one time using test lists, I sometimes reveive the following error for one or more of the tests: The agent process was stopped while the test was running. It is never the same test failing, and if I try to run the test again, it succeeds. I found this bug report on Connect, which seems to be the same problem, but it does not offer a solution. Has anyone else seen this behaviour ? How I can avoid it ?

  • How can I get the Visual Studio 2010 converstion wizard to come back up?

    When I first opened my website project with Visual Studio 2010 the conversion wizard came up and I said that I didn't want to convert the project. Now I'm ready to convert the project, but I can't find a shortcut or a way to get it back? I tried to remove the suo file, and that didn't do it. If I go into the project properties I can switch the target framework to 4.0, but that tells me it's going to close and reopen the project and I'll have to adjust the pages by hand - doesn't seem like very much fun. Anyone know how to get it to prompt again, or even a command line that would run it? Thank you!

    I know it's stupid but visual studio (2010) doesn't gray out my properties tagged with ReadOnlyAttribute, I can't edit their values (if I try to do it, simply return to the previous value), but they aren't grayed out, I think it's really boring this when using the editor Is there an option or an attribute that I'm forgetting?   • How to get Code Coverage working on a VS 2010 project?

    When I turn on Code Coverage in my test settings, on a project that references the Unity DI container I get the following error: Cannot initialize the ASP.NET project '{Project Name}'. The event log specifies the following reason: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Practices.Unity, Version=2.0.414.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. Strong name signature could not be verified. How do I get around this issue? I am running Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate on a Windows 7 X64 machine.

So I exited, restarted, etc to verify. Here's my repro steps Open existing project (I don't think it matters which one) Press ctrlf and give it something to search for (?) Press enter Press ctrlf Press enter goto 4 Can you reproduce a slowly expanding quick find window? Do I have some sort of wacky bugged out system? I'ld obviously like to submit a bug report to MS if this is indeed a viable repro.

    Hello, I need to know wether or not to buy the VS 2010 premium or not. I have the database project working on my own version of vs 2008 team suite. My coworkers only have 2008 professional. We are moving to VS2010 now. We do not have MSDN licenses for our company right now. We are looking to buy just the VS2010 no MSDN. It is very pricey to get 6 of VS2010 premium. We need to get our database into source control. We are currently email scripts around, and it very difficult to keep track off. Are there any non-microsoft solutions that would be the same features and be free?

  • VS 2010 Class Diagram Error "The type cannot be edited..."

    A few of the classes on a VS 2010 class diagram are displayed with a red title. The Class Details window shows all of the methods, properties, fields and correctly shows no events. However, there's an entry under each of methods, properties, fields and events that states where the name should be: "The type cannot be edited because the source code file contains an error." However, the source file builds with no errors or warnings. Anyone seen this? Any idea how to fix it?

    Why doesn't VS have any sort of line numbering? Is there any way to enable it, or a plugin for it? I know, the number of lines of code in a program doesn't matter, but sometimes it is nice to know how long a program is, or what line number something is for reference. I can't seem to find that as an option anywhere, to my surprise. Thanks for the help! This is Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate. (if you have read my older questions, I've been using 2008 Express until now.)

But color scheme in new VS2010 is really ugly, so the first thing i'd like to do after install is to change its color palette.     I have a .Net 4.0 Windows application which requires access thru the firewall. I know about the netsh advfirewall firewall command, but I would like very much to have this program allowed at install time (the Click Once deployment). How can I add this command to execute as a post install command, exectuing as Administrator - i.e. The person doing the install does not have to execute the netsh advfirewall command separately or does not have to go to the Firewall and manually add the program in the Allowed list. I cannot find an area in Publish in Visual Studio 2010 to insert a post install command line execution.

In the field for MSBuildArguments in the build definition I have: /p:DeployOnBuild=True <br/> /p:DeployTarget=MsDeployPublish <br/> /p:MSDeployPublishMethod=RemoteAgent <br/> /p:CreatePackageOnPublish=True <br/> /p:DeployIISAppPath=devwebsitename<br/> /p:MsDeployServiceUrl=http://deployserver/MsDeployAgentService<br/> /p:UserName=username<br/> /p:Password=password<br/> Automatic deployment of dev web site is ok and I get a package for the web site generated How can I (the same build) get deploy packages for the other environments : Staging and Production? Or am I missing som basic concept here?
