  • Why build Javascript functions as JQuery plugins?

    I've seen alot of JQuery implementations of existent JavaScript functions that merely wrap the JavaScript code in a JQuery wrapper and don't actually rely on any of JQuery's base for their operation. What are the benefits of using Javascript as a JQuery plugin? If there are none is there a speed loss to use a JQuery plugin that could have easily been implemented outside the wrapper just as well? Many thanks in advance (just trying to learn something here).

    Hi, im using a plugin to do something ever 10 secs: function status_updates(){ $("p").everyTime(1000,function(i) { if(i==10){ alert("foo"); // something here }else{ $(this).html(i); } }); } status_updates(); where it says something here I need to add something to reset the timer but i dont know how.     I am looking for suggestions on the easiest to set up and use AJAX Autocomplete plugin that will use JSON key/value pairs. I want a plugin that supports setting the form value to the key of the name selected. I have been working with jQuery UI Autocomplete, but it is a total pain in the rear to get this working. Does anyone know of anything that actually supports this out of the box, or have a thread or page where this is already detailed?

    Hi all, I am wish to create a zip archive of my "target" directory (${project.build.directory). using the maven-assembly-plugin seems to me like overkill for such a simple task (and a bit complicated - why must I use another file, the assembly descriptor, for such a task) I can't locate the seemingly more simple maven-zip-plugin in the http://repo1.maven.org/maven2 repository. Any input?

    For a project at work, we're considering using the Maven plugin for Eclipse to automate our builds. Right now the procedure is far more complicated than it ought to be, and we're hoping that Maven will simplify things to a one-click build. My question is, is there a wizard or automatic importer for converting an existing Eclipse Java project to a Maven project, using the Maven plugin? Or should I create a new Maven project and manually copy over all source files, libs, etc.

    Do I load the scripts/css again in other.html when I'm using the .load('other.html') from index.html? index.html = jQuery & cycle plugin, other.html = jQuery & cycle plugin FF & IE load the other.html fine when they're both (script/css) in the index.html. But Chrome & Safari act as if it can't read the script and css.

    I'm somewhat new to grails (not groovy though) and I'm working on a sample CRUD application. The issue I'm trying to solve is how to set a property on a bean based on a radio button before I update it in the database. Is the Form Helper http://www.grails.org/plugin/form-helper plugin the way to go? Will the bean have its value set regardless of if the button is actually clicked by the user or if it is left at its default value? thanks, Jeff

The problem I am facing is when i applied a watermark to any input field for which validation is also applied then validations are failing For Example: <input type=text name=myinput class="required"> and I applied a watermark for this field in document ready function: $("#myinput ").Watermark("myinput "); This is the sample case where validation is failing as value=myinput is set for input field which is watermarked.

    Hello, I want to use either http://onehackoranother.com/projects/jquery/tipsy/ or http://bassistance.de/jquery-plugins/jquery-plugin-tooltip/ and I was wondering if lets say I have a div on my page that has a class 'item_info'. Can I have my tooltip that is created output the div inside the tooltip and formatted properly according to my css? Is there another plugin I should be looking into? Thanks. The plugin generate gsp files, so I think that I can use the online haml html generator. Bug I want something like an editor with syntax highlithing, blocks, etc, and that generate html. I want to add functionality so that when the user types in the username field, an ajax call is triggered to check whether the username is already taken. My requirements are: Preferably integrate with JQuery Validation plugin, rather than writing a custom function I want the lookup to occur on the nkeyup event I want the lookup to be triggered approx 0.5 seconds after the keyup event has occurred.
