  • How to restore a previous firefox session?

    FF 3.5.4 on Ubuntu 9.10. I have (of course) session saving (the built-in one) enabled. I closed the main FF window, but the "Downloads" window was still open. And on reopen, it had forgotten about the previous tabs. This is annoying is hell, and yes, I should report (or check for) a bug. If I could stomach bugzilla, that is. :P I have the sessionstore.js file with this older session (scanning it with less showed many of the sites I know had been open). How do I get FF to use this session file? I did try to remove sessionstore.* and copy the sessionstore.js (or .bak) to the profile folder. But that doesn't have any effect. EDIT: rewritten, to make it as obvious as it can be. I wasn't expecting people to jump to the "this guy's a stupid git" quite so easily.

  • Random timeouts in IIS7

    Hi, I have a weird problem which I think is caused by my IIS7 installation on Vista 64 bit. I have a bunch of AJAX calls and JS dynamic file loads (~30) in a local application, and I get random timeouts (or so it seems) in my browser. In Chrome it looks like the page just stops loading (no HDD activity), in Firefox/Firebug I can see that some of the files are being loaded but they never actually finish. When I reload the page the same occurs, but for (random) other files that must be loaded. When I try to load one of those JS files concurrently (so during the timeout in FF) in another browser, the file loads there. So I am pretty sure the request can be handled by IIS. I am thinking about a limit or so on simultaneous requests from the same browser which is not working correctly, but I am pretty clueless on how to solve this. Does anyone recognize this problem and know a solution? Thanks!

  • Getting live traffic/visitor analytics when using a reverse proxy

    I'm in process of implementing Varnish as a reverse proxy for a Ruby on Rails app and I'm using Google Analytics (JS/client side script to record visitor data) but it's several hours delayed so its useless for knowing what's going on now. I need at a glance live data that includes referring traffic and what current req/sec is. Right now I am using a simple Rack middleware application to do the live stats (gist.github.com/235745) but if the majority of traffic hits Varnish, Rack will never be hit so this won't work. The closest solution I've found so far is http://www.reinvigorate.net/ but it's in beta (there are also no implementation details on their front page). Does Varnish have traffic logs that I can custom format to match my Apache logs so I can combine them, or will I have to roll my own JS implementation like GA that shows the data in real time?

The directive "Minimize request overhead" requires static content (images, js, css, etc.) on a static server (ie cookieless): https://developers.google.com/speed/docs/best-practices/request I do not want to buy a new server and I was thinking of just setting a directory of my site without cookie with htaccess www.mysite.com/static/.htaccess Header unset Cookie Header unset Set-Cookie I do not know if it can be problematic. Looking on google it seems that no one ever has adopted this type of solution, so I think that it is incorrect.   • Why is IIS7 not compressing my static files?

    I am trying to get IIS to compress jquery.js (and all other static files, but using jquery as the example here) on my localhost, but something goes wrong. The funny part is that when I look in my %SystemDrive%\inetpub\temp\IIS Temporary Compressed Files\MySiteName, I see the jquery.js file there, and its size is 24 KB. But in the browser, according to the Net tab on Firebug, the size is 69 kb. I've tried the following: - Checked that my browser accept compression. I found "Accept-Encoding gzip, deflate" in the request header via Firebug - Enabling Failed Request Tracing. Nothing turns up in the %SystemDrive%\inetpub\logs\FailedReqLogFiles folder after I do my request though.

  • Deal Slider malware removed, Windows Script Host Error message persisting

    I somehow got "Deal Slider" which was detected by Malwarebytes, so I let the program delete it. Now, every time I start my computer, I get the message from Windows Script Host that says: Can not find script file "C:\Users\Jason\Appdata\Local\Deal Slider\repair.js". Beep boop beep. This is a very odd message, because I can't find any trace of Deal Slider on my system now, and the \Deal Slider\ directory doesn't even exist anymore. I have already tried disabling WSH, but then I get a message that WSH is disabled. I also tried changing the file association of .js and .jse to Notepad. How can I make this error stop happening?

    So, I just installed the node.js package from nodejs.org and I was poking around to see what it installed. Over in /usr/local/bin I saw this owner 24561. I see it in a few other places too. What is this? What does it mean?     I tried building node.js on cygwin and that caused errors, so someone in #node.js on freenode told me to run rebaseall on cygwin to clean it up. So I tried that and I got the following message: $ rebaseall rebaseall: only ash or dash processes are allowed during rebasing Exit all Cygwin processes and stop all Cygwin services. Execute ash (or dash) from Start/Run... or a cmd or command window. Execute '/bin/rebaseall' from ash (or dash). So I closed cygwin, went to Start/Run and tried ash and dash but got the following alert: Windows cannot find 'ash'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search. So what am I supposed to do??

    I have an entire website with the following directory structure: /example.com /html (public) /css /js index.php /lib session.php other_lib_files.php /views index.php /models /controllers As illustrated, the html is public, and anything above it is private. My site now needs to upgrade servers, and the new server (Linux w/ Plesk) has the following structure (reduced to the problematic parts below): /myplesksite.com /httpdocs /css /js index.php /private /lib /models /views What I would THINK is that I should be able to put my /lib, /views, /models, etc in the directory directly above /httpdocs, the same way I had it in my previous server. Is that possible? Or do I have to put it in private? I would really love not to have to adjust my internal paths throughout the site if not necessary...

Now I have this one time case - where I need to provide access to a contractor to fix the CSS issues on my website. He basically needs FTP (read/write) access to certain folders.   • Is there a usable HTML web gallery template for Lightroom 2?

    The built-in HTML gallery unfortunately generates invalid HTML markup so its looks are likely more coincidence than proper design. That aside its JavaScript usage prevents using the middle mouse button to open an image in a new tab. A look at the few free HTML gallery templates out there shows me that there seems to be little interest in building an actual HTML gallery which doesn't use JavaScript. Most of them are using JS to build fancy animations or in-page popup boxes containing the image. This may be nice for some people but at least one person who looks at my images is on dial-up and quickly opening all images in individual tabs to let them load and then close the connection is very nice to have there. Anyone seen such a gallery template; i. e. simple, plain HTML without JS? My HTML/CSS skills aren't that good that I can develop such a thing on my own, unfortunately.

  • My site not directing links correctly.

    I have a site at http://badassmonkeys.com/ and when i click any of the links it does not direct it to the actual page but still pulls up the link. For some reason it works perfectly on linux cpanel and actually loads the pages, but on windows in apache, or in IIS even with a rewrite mod for it, it just doesnt work. The links dont go correctly. To make everything worse, I just started using Amazon's Elastic Load Balancer, so I added the certificate to the ELB and now SSL encryption is happening three times. That's gotta be horrible for performance. What is the sane way to handle this? Should I be forwarding https on the ELB - http on nginx - http on apache? Secondly, there is so much duplication above. Is the best method to not repeat myself to put all of the static asset handling in an include file and just include it in the server?

Is it Good to cache the static content in Sticky Session ?
