    I am try to find the top n number of categories as they relate to articles, there is a habtm relationship set up between the two. This is the SQL I want to execute, but am unsure of how to do this with ActiveRecord, aside from using the find_by_sql method. is there any way of doing this with ActiveRecord methods: SELECT "categories".id, "categories".name, count("articles".id) as counter FROM "categories" JOIN "articles_categories" ON "articles_categories".category_id = "categories".id JOIN "articles" ON "articles".id = "articles_categories".article_id GROUP BY "categories".id ORDER BY counter DESC LIMIT 5;

  • sorting nested list, allow only li to be sorted witin the same ul

    Given two vectors X and Y I have to find their correlation, i.e. their linear dependence/independence. Both vectors have equal dimension. A resulted answer should be a floating point number from [-1.0 .. 1.0]. Example: X=[-1, 2, 0] Y=[ 4, 2, -0.3] Find y=cor(X,Y) such that y belongs to [-1.0 .. 1.0]. It should be a simple construction involving a list-comprehension. No external library is allowed.     I tried reading mailing lists in gnus in emacs, but emacs stops responding with the slow nntp servers downloads. nabble, gmane etc are also kind of slow. So I thought about download the gzipped archives available from most mailing lists. here are some nice instructions to import these archives into thunderbird. Is there a similar streamlined way to read the unziped archives in emacs, or other software ?

    I am running Samba on a CentOS server, and I am experiencing a problem where it allows me to connect to the server and see a share, but shows the share as an empty directory. I find this behavior strange. Here is the stanza in my smb.conf for the given share: [seanm] path = /home/seanm writeable = yes valid users = seanm, root read only = No Here's what I see on the server side: [seanm@server ~]$ ls -l -rw-r--r-- 1 seanm seanm 40 Jan 4 13:45 pangram.txt And yet: [seanm@client ~]$ smbclient //server/seanm -U seanm -W WORKGROUP Enter seanm's password: Domain=[WORKGROUP] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.33-3.29.el5_5.1] smb: \> ls .   • Apache+PHP problem: Cannot list processes other than apache's

    I have a quite fresh install of the Apache (2.2.3/Centos) + PHP(5.1.6) and following problem: I need to monitor life of one process and in order to do that I run: $last_line = exec('ps -C snmpd'); and check its output. Unfortunately I always get nothing. I've checked it with other process names and it seems it can 'see' only Apache's processes. Any idea how to work this out?

  • set / line intersection solution

    I have two lists in python and I want to know if they intersect at the same index. Is there a mathematical way of solving this? For example if I have [9,8,7,6,5] and [3,4,5,6,7] I'd like a simple and efficient formula/algorithm that finds that at index 3 they intersect. I know I could do a search just wondering if there is a better way. I know there is a formula to solve two lines in y = mx + b form by subtracting them from each other but my "line" isn't truly a line because its limited to the items in the list and it may have curves. Any help is appreciated.

  • Typed DefaultListModel to avoid casting

    Is there a way in java to have a ListModel that only accepts a certain type? What I'm looking for is something like DefaultListModel<String> oder TypedListModel<String>, because the DefaultListModel only implements addElement(Object obj) and get(int index) which returns Object of course. That way I always have to cast from Object to e.g. String and there is no guarantee that there are only strings in my model, even though I'd like to enforce that. Is this a flaw or am I using list models the wrong way?

  • Trapping events within list box item templates in WPF

    I've got listbox that employs an item template. Within each item in the list, as defined in the template there is a button. When the user clicks the button I change a value in the data source that defines the sort order of the list. Changing the datasource is not a problem as this is working just fine within my application template. However my next step is to reload the listbox with the new sorted data source. I've tried doing this from the tempalte but it apparently doesn't have access (or I can't figure out how to get access) to the parent elements so I can reset the .ItemSource property with a newly sorted data source. Seems like this is possible but the solution is eluding me :(

  • CTE to build a list of departments and managers (hierarchical)

    I need to generate a list of users that are managers, or managers of managers, for company departments. I have two tables; one details the departments and one contains the manager hierarchy (simplified): CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Manager]( [ManagerId] [int], [ParentManagerId] [int]) CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Department]( [DepartmentId] [int], [ManagerId] [int]) Basically, I'm trying to build a CTE that will give me a list of DepartmentIds, together with all ManagerIds that are in the manager hierarchy for that department. So... Say Manager 1 is the Manager for Department 1, and Manager 2 is Manager 1's Manager, and Manager 3 is Manager 2's Manager, I'd like to see: DepartmentId, ManagerId 1, 1 1, 2 1, 3 Basically, managers are able to deal with all of their sub-manager's departments. Building the CTE to return the Manager hierarchy was fairly simple, but I'm struggling to inject the Departments in there: WITH DepartmentManagers AS ( SELECT ManagerId, ParentManagerId, 0 AS Depth From Manager UNION ALL SELECT Manager.ManagerId, Manager.ParentManagerId, DepartmentManagers.Depth + 1 AS Depth FROM Manager INNER JOIN DepartmentManagers ON DepartmentManagers.ManagerId = Manager.ParentManagerId ) Can anyone help?

    If I am walking through an IEnumerable<T>, is there any way to get a new IEnumerable<T> representing the remaining items after the current one. For example, I would like to write an extension method IEnumerator<T>.Remaining(): IEnumerable<int> sequence = ... IEnumerator<int> enumerator = sequence.GetEnumerator(); if (enumerator.MoveNext() && enumerator.MoveNext()) { IEnumerable<int> rest = enumerator.Remaining(); // 'rest' would contain elements in 'sequence' start at the 3rd element } I'm thinking of the collection of a sort of singly-linked list, so there should be a way to represent any remaining elements, right? I don't see any way to do this exposed on either IEnumerable<T> or IEnumerator<T>, so maybe it's incompatible with the notion of a potentially unbounded, nondeterministic sequence of elements.

    Hey guys, let's say I have a sorted list of Floats. Now I'd like to get the index of the next lower item of a given value. The usual for-loop aprroach has a complexity of O(n). Since the list is sorted there must be a way to get the index with O(log n). My O(n) approach: index=0 for i,value in enumerate(mylist): if value>compareValue: index=i-1 Is there a datatype for solving that problem in O(log n)? best regards Sebastian

I implemented the IComparer interface as follows: class PointComparer : IComparer<Point> { public int Compare(Point x, Point y) { if (x.Y != y.Y) { return x.Y - y.Y; } else { return x.X - y.X; } } } And then call my sorting as follows: pointsList.Sort(new PointComparer()); For some reason the list doesn't sort. I want to ignore the .git directory (which I understand is default behavior for ack). On that note, how can I ignore certain directories? I am using ack 1.9.6 on Mac OSX 10.8.2.

    I have a list of strings containing filenames such as, file_names = ['filei.txt','filej.txt','filek.txt','file2i.txt','file2j.txt','file2k.txt','file3i.txt','file3j.txt','file3k.txt'] I then remove the .txt extension using: extension = os.path.commonprefix([n[::-1] for n in file_names])[::-1] file_names_strip = [n[:-len(extension)] for n in file_names] And then return the last character of each string in the list file_names_strip: h = [n[-1:] for n in file_names_strip] Which gives h = ['i', 'j', 'k', 'i', 'j', 'k', 'i', 'j', 'k'] How can i test for a pattern of strings in h? So if i,j,k occur sequentially it would return True and False if not. I need to know this because not all file names are formatted like they are in file_names. So: test_ijk_pattern(h) = True no_pattern = ['1','2','3','1','2','3','1','2','3'] test_ijk_pattern(no_pattern) = False

It created a generic list instead of 3 different lists.   • Which data structure for List of objects + datagrid wiev

    Hi, I have to develop a code which will store a list of objects, as example below 101, value 11, value 12, value 13 ...etc 102, value 21, value 22, value 23 ...etc 103, value 31, value 32, value 33 ...etc 104, value 41, value 42, value 43 ...etc Now, the difficulty is, that first column is an identifier, and whole table should always be sorted by it. Easy access to each element is required. Additionally, list should be easily updated, and extended by adding element at the end as well as in front and still keep being sorted by first column. Finally, I would like to be able to display values of the above in datagridview. What is most important is a performance of the implementation, as rows will be updated many times per second, and datagridview should be able to display all changes immediately. I was thinking about creating class for the values, and then a Dictionary but encountered a problem with displaying values in gridview. What would be the most optimal way of implementing the code? But Using the same query, how I can do to filter the machines that only have linked users ?
