  • How do I programmatically set Integrated Windows Authentication in IIS on a .NET web service?

    I have a web service project that needs to be set to use Integrated Windows Authentication after installation. Normally, I would install the web service, then manually go to IIS and make sure the box is checked for Integrated Windows Authentication. There has to be a way to do this through code. I have looked up on using the Installer class. It looks like this is something I could use, but I have not found anything on setting properties programmatically in IIS.

  • Why do techs recommend YUM installs yet repositories and providers are ages behind?

    I have been reading page after page after page about the benefits of using YUM package installer and how NOBODY should built installs from source files (which again makes no sense to me) yet the repositories and source builders always package files in Tarball format, leaving a TON of work (which usually ends up going wrong) to the individual instead of formatting SRPMs for the end user. Has the world gone mad? I feel like I am taking crazy pills!

    same as in title? I have a test server with mentioned OS and my app is .net 3.5 based. I do want to know if win 2008 r2 comes with service pack 1 for .net 3.5 from the box. And does it come with .net 3.5 sp1 family update as WELL, since after I downloaded the update, the installer says I do not have software required to update. Could some win 2008 guru perhaps explain it to me? thanks luke

    I'm writing a website in ASP.NET MVC, using the ASP.NET MVC 1.0 template that was added to VS2008 for me by the ASP.NET MVC installer. The template automatically adds an AccountController, but its account methods tie into a SQL Server Express entity. I don't have Express installed here. How can I reconfigure it to use my SQL Server 2008 database and to store user info in some columns in a User table I've already created?

    I am planning to use py2exe to make an application developped with Python 2.6. It seems that my app need the VC redistribuables : http://www.py2exe.org/index.cgi/Tutorial#Step5 I've read this tutorial and the redistribuables license agreement and I am not sure if I can freely redistribute these files with my program. (I don't have VS2008 license) Can I bundle the redistribs into an installer and make the installation transparent for the user or do they have to download the files by their own from Microsoft website?   • C# Reading the registry and Wow6432Node key

    Hi all, I have come code that reads the registry and looks for a value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\App\ but when running on 64bit versions of Windows the value is under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\App. How should I best approach this? Do I need a 64bit installer or should I rewrite my code to detect both places? Thanks

Still, I can't understand how to connect to my server: I see that the SQL service itself (SQLEXPRESS) is running in both in services.msc and Sql Server Configuration Manager I try to connect to it via the Management Studio, but I don't understand what to do.   • How to install VC80CRT debug runtimes without full visual studio 2005?

    I can't run a debug sdk application because it requires both VC 8 and VC 9 versions of the CRT. But it only requires visual studio 2008 for plugin dev, which is what I need. How do I install the debug runtimes from 2005 on to a Windows7 machine? I can't figure out how to make them run app local nor can I copy anything into the winSxS folder without a trusted installer.
