    We're using Newrelic to measure our Python/Django application performance. Newrelic is reporting that across our system "Memcached" is taking an average of 12ms to respond to commands. Drilling down into the top dozen or so web views (by # of requests) I can see that some Memcache get take up to 30ms; I can't find a single use of Memcache get that returns in less than 10ms. More details on the system architecture: Currently we have four application servers each of which has a memcached member. All four memcached members participate in a memcache cluster. We're running on a cloud hosting provider and all traffic is running across the "internal" network (via "internal" IPs) When I ping from one application server to another the responses are in ~0.5ms Isn't 10ms a slow response time for Memcached? As far as I understand if you think "Memcache is too slow" then "you're doing it wrong". So am I doing it wrong?   • Windows Server 2008 R2 loses ability to connect to network share

    I could sure use some help with this one: I've got two Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 Terminal Servers, as well as several 2003 servers (DNS / Wins / AD / DC). On the two 2008 boxes, every now and then they will get in this mode where you can't map a drive to a random server. I say random server because it's not always the same server that you can't map to. Here is a summary of what I can and can't do: net view \\servername Sometimes this works, sometimes it does not. net view \\FQDN This always works. net view \\IPAddress This always works. ping servername Sometimes this works, sometimes it does not. ping FQDN This always works. ping IPAddress This always works. I've been looking all over for a solution to this. It sure seems like Microsoft would have a hotfix by now. The kicker to this is that it sometimes works great, especially after a reboot. It may run for 2 weeks just fine, but all of a sudden it will fail to resolve the remote server name. It will then be this way for a few days, then it might start working again. Also, while it's in the mode of not working, the other servers have no problem getting there. It's just these 2008 R2 Terminal Servers. Setting a static entry in the Hosts file and LMHosts does not make it work. All servers have static IPs and they are registered in DNS and Wins just fine. Here is a long thread on MS Technet of the exact same problem, but they don't have a good solution. Here is their workaround (It was from June of 2010): Good news - a hotfix is in the works and a workaround has been identified: Root cause is that since this is SMB1 all user sessions are on a single TCP connection to the remote server. The first user to initiate a connection to the remote SMB server has their logon-ID added to the structure defining the connection. If that user logs off all subsequent uses of that TCP session fail as the logon-id is no longer valid. As a workaround for now to keep the issue from happening you will want to have the user not logoff the Terminal Server only disconnect their sessions. Any word from anyone out there about a solution? Any help would sure be appreciated. Thanks, James

  • Safely remove external USB drive fails due to $extend

    When connecting an external USB 3.0 hard drive to my USB 3.0 ports I can never safely remove it. Somehow windows always keeps the journal files open: "Always" as in this time I only connected the drive, copied a 10GB VM and wanted to disconnect it afterwards (like 15 minutes after copying, so all copying was done). As you can see there is no other program keeping a handle on the disk besides System. I tried restarting explorer.exe as well as RemoveDrive.exe from Uwe Sieber. No luck, the locks on the hard drive always remain. My only solution is just unplugging it (whereas I'm afraid of damaging the data?) or restarting the computer (always helps, doesn't it?). Might it have something to do with me only having a SSD hard drive and the external disk is a regular drive? Might it have something to do with the USB 3.0 drivers (NEC Electronics USB Hub)? I never have this problem when using the regular USB 2.0 ports. Any ideas on how to properly unmount the disk?

However I am not completely sure that I have configured everything right and do not have the experience to check so I would be very grateful for some advice or just verification that all seems right so far. I am using Linux Fedora 20 (32 bit with plans to upgrade to 64bit) The RAID 1 should consist of two 1TB SATA hard drives.     Hi there, I'm having issues getting the customer.xml layout file to work properly for the customer's "my account" pages. The navigation links and the previously ordered items that are usually on the left hand side of the page won't show up on the page, but if I change the reference name to "content" in the xml file, it shows up (except it's obviously then on the right hand side). I've checked the template it's referencing (2columns-left.phtml), and the getChildHtml('left') is there in the correct position.
