  Hi i want to Overlay bitmap on live video. Iam trying to do this with the directshow sample. I have a Collection of Contact objects that displayed in a ListBox control which shows the FullName of the Contact and to the right I have a customControl called BasicContactCard.   Hi, Trying to install Oracle Fusion Middleware 11gR2 on windows (same thing happens on Linux). I have followed the guidelines provided in the http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/install.1111/e14318/toc.htm Installing the weblogic (11g) Oracle 11g databse installation Running the RCU utility to create schema Installed and copied relevant files for Java Bridge Configure the Fusion Middleware But i found that the SOA server is not getting up in the enterprise manager its showing as down. • linux nooB: Installing ffmpeg + dependencies on aws linux ami (repo issues)

  Im installing ffmpeg to run on an amazon linux ami, and have added the rpmforge repo and the dag repo. Here are some guidelines I'm using for reference: TWoZaO and Razuna The rpmforge repo has ffmpeg, but if you try to install it then it will complain that is missing dependencies (for me libSDL-1.2.so.0()(64bit)). Regardless I will install ffmpeg from svn so I can be sure to enable the options I want (namely libx264). It seems strange to me though that SDL is not in rpmforge or dag, and in according to both of my references above, it should be there. • Syncing Music Everywhere with Google Music and iTunes Match - Will This Work?

  I have the following devices: Personal Laptop running Windows 7/Ubuntu 11.10 (mostly use Ubuntu) Media Server running Windows 7 with PS3 Media Server and iTunes Work Laptop running OSX Snow Leopard iPad iPhone 4S The iPhone just replaced my Droid 2 Global. What I had been doing was using Google Music to watch the folders iTunes was storing music in and moving any new files up to Google Music. The Droid would pull music down from the cloud via streaming or me telling it to make it available offline, I had folders set up with PS3 Media Server to stream them to TV's via DLNA, and used RDP to play music through my speakers in the office. So far it's worked well. Since I've replaced the Droid 2 though with an iPhone, I've lost the syncing ability with Google Music and have to do it via iTunes (I knew this would happen, no big suprise). I got to thinking though - Apple does offer iTunes Match, which allows your devices to stream/download the music from 'the cloud,' much like Google Music. I could then listen to whatever I Wanted (for the most part) on my phone, iPad, and laptops by syncing via iTunes Match. I don't want to loose my MP3s though, and since I've never used iTunes Match, I wonder if the following is a viable solution: Sign up for iTunes Match on my media server Let it scan my library and make available my songs in AAC in the cloud Not delete the media server MP3s Set up other devices to sync to iTunes Match Continue to get MP3s via Amazon or other services and add to iTunes Let the MP3s sync to Google Music, and let the MP3's add to the AAC versions on my devices I think the main kicker is I don't want to lose the MP3 versions of my songs as those will work just fine on all my devices and I generally rip at 320kbps. I don't mind spending $25/year if it means that I can easily shift the music from device to device without much thinking, but I'm not going to pay $25/year to end up converting my library over to AAC just to save myself the hassle of manually syncing my iPad and iPhone.

• Apache mod-pagespeed installation affects mod-spdy?

  Recently my site (an https connection, running on an Amazon EC2 ubuntu apache2.2) has this issue where I need to load the page several times (3-4) before it will load normally without issue. It will then load normally as long as I keep loading pages regularly (every couple seconds). It will stall again if I don't load pages for a few minutes. It has nothing to do with my application because I don't have this problem with the exact same app codebase on my Apache installation on my laptop. The only things to my knowledge that I've changed is that I recently installed mod_spdy and then a few weeks later I installed mod_pagespeed, https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/mod. However, I have since turned mod_pagespeed off by setting its pagespeed.conf to mod_pagespeed off. Unfortunately, that didn't solve the problem. The line below is how every of last 10 lines of my error.log look: # tail -f /var/log/apache2/error.log ... • Lenovo Wi-Fi Replacement

  I recently got my T500 with a very poor signal Wi-Fi, Thinkpad BGN, a Realtek chipset. I would like to replace my Wi-Fi card with either the Intel WiFi Link 5100 or 5300. However, I read somewhere that Lenovo specfically "whitelist" their Wi-Fi cards to only work with their laptops. I could not find any of the Intel Wi-Fi, moreover any Wi-Fi cards on the Lenovo site. So, I went to hunt around in Amazon and found several sellers. Plus what sort of card do I require? There is a difference between mini cards and the full sized card, though I do not know which one my laptop supports.   Sorry my question is so vague I just have no idea where to start in solving it and am quite a novice with servers. Recently my site (an https connection, running on an Amazon EC2 ubuntu apache2.2) has this issue where I need to load the page several times (3-4) before it will load normally without issue. It will then load normally as long as I keep loading pages regularly (every couple seconds). It will stall again if I don't load pages for a few minutes. It has nothing to do with my application because I don't have this problem with the exact same app codebase on my Apache installation on my laptop. The only thing to my knowledge that I changed is that I installed mod_pagespeed https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/mod. However, I have since turned it off by setting my pagespeed.conf to mod_pagespeed off. Unfortunately, that didn't solve the problem. I'm wondering general advice on how to troubleshoot this problem. For instance are there linux commands to check page loading peformance? I use the same hosting service for multiple websites. My question is this: Can my hosting be tracked and be used to identify me? Also: Are there other methods of finding out my identity from either Google Adsense or Amazon affiliate programs? I couldn't find any relevant articles online. • Upgrading Visio 2000 to Visio 2007

  I have Microsoft Visio 2000 SR 1, and recently purchased Microsoft Office Visio Standard 2007 with the understanding (supported by the product info and some other research) that I'd be able to upgrade. However, when I install 2007, it tells me it can't find a previous install of Visio, but... it's right there! Here's the exact message: "Setup can't find a version of Microsoft Office on your computer. If Office is installed on a disk or network share, click the browse button to select the appropriate disk or share... (etc.)" No matter which directory or drive I pick (various Office installs, the old Visio install, various subdirectories) it gives the following message: "The path you have chosen does not point at a qualifying upgradeable product. Click 'Retry' to try again or 'Cancel' to quit setup." Any ideas? This is a legit copy of Visio 2007 (purchased from Amazon) and the copy of Visio 2000 is legit as well. I'm not sure what exactly the installer is looking for that it would consider a "qualifying upgradeable product". A specific file?

• Prestashop is not saving Memcached settings

  I have a issue with the admin site of prestashop. I'm trying to activate the caching system but it doesn't save the setting. When I add a server (I'm using an Amazon ElasticCache server) saves it, but when I select the enable option and click Save, it redirects me to "Back Office Preferences Performance" but with a blank page and the admin tabs visible. I go back to those settings again and i see that the caching option is disabled. Also, there is a warning: "To use Memcached, you must install the Memcache PECL extension on your server. http://www.php.net/manual/en/memcache.installation.php" , even if i already installed memcached via yum. I tried also, by modifying the settings.inc.php file editing define('_PS_CACHE_ENABLED_', '0'); to: define('_PS_CACHE_ENABLED_', '1'); But i get 500 Internal Server Error in every page, so i prefer to leave it as before. Any ideas? I'm using PrestaShop 1.4.6.2 with Nginx 1.0.11 and PHP-FPM 5.3.8 in a CentOS 5.7 system.

• HA for Resque & Redis

  Trying to avoid SPOFs for Resque and Redis. Ultimately the client is going to be PHP via (https://github.com/chrisboulton/php-resque). After going through and finding some workable HA for nginx+php-fpm and MySQL (mysql master-master setup as a way to simply master-slave promotion), next up is Resque+Redis. Standard install of Resque uses localhost Redis (at DigitalOcean). I am heavily depending on Amazon Route 53 DNS failover to try to solve this. resque1.domain.com points to localhost redis (redis1.domain.com) = same server resque2.domain.com points to localhost redis (redis2.domain.com) = same server Do resque.domain.com with FAILOVER resque1 as primary and resque2 as secondary. What this means is that most of the time (99%), resque1 should be getting hit with resque2 as just a hot backup. This lets me just have to get 2 servers and makes sure that any hits to resque.domain.com goes somewhere The other way to do this is to break out resque and redis into 4 servers and do it as follows resque1.domain.com - redis.domain.com resque2.domain.com - redis.domain.com redis1.domain.com redis2.domain.com Then setup DNS Failover resque.domain.com - primary: resque1 and secondary: resque2 redis.domain.com - primary: redis1 and secondary: redis2 I'd like to get away for 2 servers if I can but is this 2nd setup much better or negligible? The user manual says the following with regard to SATA Integrated SATAII Generation 1 Controllers (from NForce Professional 2200) Two integrated dual port SATA II controllers Four SATA connectors support up to four drives 3 Gb/s per direction per channel NvRAID v2.0 support Supports RAID 0, 1, 0+1 and JBOD. I don't want to remove any of them. However, I want the DVD burner above installed as well. However, he says that with this setup I will not be able to boot from the DVD drive. Are these statements correct, and what are my other options if any? Even it the statements in the last para are true, I suppose I could use one of the motherboard connectors/ports there are currently being used with the hard drives with the DVD drive, and use the "add-on" connector with one of the hard drives. Not all the 4 hard drives need to be bootable. BTW, despite having read through http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA#Cables.2C_connectors.2C_and_ports I am fuzzy on the differences between connectors, cables and ports. Thanks in advance.

• Server cost for smartphone app with web service

  Hello, I am working on a smartphone application that will require a backend web service - but I have absolutely clueless to how much it will cost. Web Service will handle: - login of users - cataloging of our user base - holding minimal profile information for users (the only binary data is a display picture which will be < 20k each) - performing some very minor calculation/algorithm before return results - All the above will be communicated to server from a smartphone (iPhone/BlackBerry/Android) Bandwidth Requirements: - We want to handle up to 10k users throughout the day. - I predict 10k * 50 HTTP requests a day = 500,000 requests a day * 30 = 15 million requests a month Space Requirements: - Data will be in SQL database. - I predict 1MB/user * 10k = 10GB + overhead. In other words - space is not a big issue. Software Requirements: (unless someone knows an alternative) - Windows Server 2008 + IIS - MSFT SQL Server Note: This is 100% new to me, so please hit me with all you got. Do I need Windows Server or are there alternative? Is it better to get multiple cheap servers to distribute load? Will Amazon S3 work for me? How about Windows Azure? Thank you!!

• Configuring vsftpd with nginx on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

  I've attempted to configure a nginx / vsftpd server on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (via amazon ec2) a couple times now, but I seem to keep making a mistake along the way. Currently, when I try to connect to my ftp server it takes a minute or so before it connects. Then when I issue a command, they all timeout with an operation failed error. Aside from these issues, I'm not completely confident with the file ownership & permissions or the configuration / settings. So, I think it's best if I just re-install and re-configure correctly. I believe the nginx installation comes with a default user of www-data:www-data and web root directory ownership by root:root. Vsftpd, however, needs to have a user created with the same group as the nginx user (www-data), and the same home directory as the nginx server (/usr/share/nginx/www), with g+w chmod permissions granted on that directory. The vsftpd.conf file should disable anonymous logins and enable local logins, file writing, and chroot local users. In my previous config, I had /bin/false set for the ftp user's shell and pam_shells.so disabled. I also had local_umask set to 0027. So, starting with a fresh ec2 instance, I've got: sudo apt-get install vsftpd sudo apt-get install nginx For the firewall I issued the command (not sure if necessary): sudo ufw allow ftp Which commands / config is recommended from here? I only need 1 ftp user that I can use to login with my ftp client to modify the single nginx web domain, which will need php & sql for WordPress.

• How does enterprise failover, such as with google.com, actually work?

  We have a few fedora systems that are configured for web, FTP, and email services. We'd like to mirror these services, so that we can provide near 100% reliability for our users. I'm a fairly experienced Linux administrator, but don't have much experience with redundant systems. What is the best way to do this? How does google and amazon do it? Google.com resolves to multiple IP addresses, but if my local desktop caches one of the IPs that are unreachable, I'm going to get a failed connection message. How do they prevent that from happening? If one of their servers goes down, how is it automatically redirected to another system, without the end-user ever knowing it? I understand there are failover devices, but they're only for failing over the system itself, not a complete network. Let's say we have the worst-case scenario, such as my primary system becomes inaccessible. What are the fundamental components that are used on Linux systems to provide this capability? I'm looking for concepts, or approaches, not answers like "check out openstack". What are the actual pieces that make up the solution? What has to be done to implement this capability? Hopefully my question is clear. I'd like to know what the pieces are that make up a failover system and what approach is taken by successful organizations that implement it. Thanks again, Alex
