  • Is ASP.Net Server Control, Postback Architecture failed in current Web 2.0 World.

    What i am looking around me is the drastically change in ASP.Net Architecture. More and more company are following the approach of JSON based wcf service in middle tier. Plain HTML based UI tier with JQuery/Ajax. No Postback at all, This contradicts the Default behaviour of Asp.Net Server Control/Code Behind Event handler/Postback. I am a Asp.Net Web Developer for around 4 years, and concerned about the future of ASP.Net. Is the Default Architecture of ASP.Net is Outdated at all? Does MVC or ASP.Net 4.0 Tries to solve the Issue?

    Scenario: There are two entities say 'Books' and 'Book Reviews'. There can be multiple books and each book can have multiple reviews. Each review and book should have a separate permalink. Books and Reviews can be added by users using separate input forms. As soon as any book/review is added it should be accessible by its permalink. Anyone can point me in the right direction on how should this be implemented?

  • IE won't start session from an iframe?..

    The task was to bypass login form on remote server with a session_id acquired through a call to server's web API. So that user wouldn't have to login twice. Since there's no way to set cookies for different domain. What we came up to was - put a little file on remote server, to which we pass encrypted session_id from hidden iframe and which is supposed to start a proper session for a remote app, which is then loaded in another iframe. This approach works fine in FF/Chrome, but not IE... However if I copy url to self-made remote authorization script from iframe's src attribute to to IE's address bar and load it from there, session get's created as expected. But for some reason it just doesn't want to do the same from an iframe. Does anyone have any clue, why this is happening?

  • Sessionstate not being saved between pages

    Hi, i am having problems with an asp.net c# site whereby i am setting a session state object to true and then redirecting to another page that needs to check the value of the session state object and it is null. Sometimes it is set correctly and other times is is simply null. When i debug on my local machine it works perfectly every time. Only when i upload to my web server does this temperamental behaviour happen. As it is based around the security of the site it is obviously important that the session data be valid and accurate every time. Is session state data unreliable? AFAIK its set to inproc, cookieless, 30 min timeout, vanilla installation of IIS. Does anyone have any suggestions? Perhaps i need to thread.sleep inbetween the storing of the session data and the reading? NB: the time between the write and the read is about 70ms.. ample time for the data to be written to RAM.....

  • Synchronizing Access to a member of the ASP.NET session

    I'm building a Javascript application and eash user has an individual UserSession. The application makes a bunch of Ajax calls. Each Ajax call needs access to a single UserSession object for the user. Each Ajax call needs a UserSession object. Data in the UserSession object is unique to each user. Originally, during each Ajax call I would create a new UserSession object and it's data members were stored in the ASP.NET Session. However, I found that the UserSession object was being instantiated a lot. To minimize the construction of the UserSession object, I wrapped it in a Singleton pattern and sychronized access to it. I believe that the synchronization is happening application wide, however I only need it to happen per user. I saw a post here that says the ASP.NET cache is synchronized, however the time between creating the object and inserting it into the cache another Thread could start construction it's another object and insert it into the cache. Here is the way I'm currently synchronizing access to the object.   • How to solve the performance decay of a VB.NET 1.1 application?

    I have single-thread windows form application written with VB.NET and targeting Framework 1.1. The software communicates with external boards through a serial interface, and it mainly consist of a state machine that run some tests, driven in a loop done with a Timer and an Interval of 50ms. The feedback on the user interface is done through some custom events raised during the tests. The problem that is driving me crazy is that the performance slightly decrease over time, and in particular after 1200/1300 test operations. The memory occupied does not increase over time, it is only the CPU that seems interested by this problem. The strange thing is that, targeting framework 2.0 and using the same identical code, I do not have this problem. I know that is difficult without looking at the code, but do you have suggestions how can I approach the problem?

    I've created a object that I'd like to have accessible from wherever the request-object is accessible, and to "die" with the request, more or less like how you always in a mvc-application has access to the RouteData-collection. Especially it's important that I have access to this object in the execution of action-filters. And also there need to be created a new object of my class whenever a new request is made to the page (the object needs to be request-safe, ie. only one request modifies that one object). Any thoughts about how to achieve this?

  • Invalidating session before iPhone application quits

    Hello I would like to tell the server to invalidate an ongoing session when the user quits the iPhone application. In the app delegate, I send a request to the server in the (void)applicationWillTerminate:(UIApplication *)application method. I am not waiting for a server answer, I just want to send the request and quit. However I cant see any packet leaving the application. The same code in another place works fine. Session has a limited duration anyway and the server will invalidate it after a while, but I would prefer to do it nicely when leaving application. Is it normal that no NSURLConnection can be established from the applicationWillTerminate method ? Thank you.

I created some users with the integrated tool, and the login is perfectly working. But now what I want to do is to give administrator the capability to create, modify, delete users. I want to display another Indicator in my SiteMapPath bar which shows a post back is happening no matter what. For example when user clicks on a button an UpdateProgress display an Indicator Image in central part of application. I want to display another image ( for every postbacks not only for one) in top of application toolbar.     Hi -i'm trying to find all the anchor tags and appending the href value with a variable. for example <a href="/page.aspx">link</a> will become <a href="/page.aspx?id=2"> <A hRef='http://www.google.com'><img src='pic.jpg'></a> will become <A hRef='http://www.google.com?id=2'><img src='pic.jpg'></a> I'm able to match all the anchor tags and href values using regex, then i manually replace the values using string.replace, however i dont think its the efficient way to do this. Is there a solution where i can use something like regex.replace(html,newurlvalue)

    I need this roadmap of a Hibernate managed object instance. First, I create an instance with initial properties and persist this object in a db. Then session associated with this object is closed. But still, I serialize my object and on the next step deserialize it, invoke some setters, and again, I need to update what changed in a database. What methods of Hibernate session should I use? persist() or save() on the first step and saveOrUpdate() on the second? In fact I see that saveOrUpdate() can be used on each step. What would you recommend?
