    Date column does not display in sorted in GridView using vb.net. In sql server the select query is returning records in sorted manner or in order by.   • FluentNHibernate: multiple one-to-many relationships between the same entities.

    Hi, I'm working on a bug tracking application. There are tickets, and each ticket has an opener user and an assigned user. So, basically, I have two entities, which have two many-to-one relationships with each other. Their schematic is this: User: public class User { public virtual int Id { get; private set; } ... public virtual IList<Ticket> OpenedTickets { get; set; } public virtual IList<Ticket> AssignedTickets { get; set; } } Ticket: public class Ticket { public virtual int Id { get; protected set; } ... [Required] public virtual User OpenerUser { get; set; } public virtual User AssignedUser { get; set; } } I use FluentNHibernate's auto mapping feature. The problem is, that no matter whether relationship I set, on the side of the User, both collections always contain the same data. I guess Fluent can't tell which end of which relationship belongs to where. I googled around but haven't found anything useful. Could anyone help me, please?

    I have a MVC Web Api Controller that uses the [Authorize] attribute at the class level. This makes all of the api methods require authorization but I'd like to create an attribute called [ApiPublic] that overrides the [Authorize] attribute. There is a similar technique described here for normal MVC controllers. I tried creating an AuthorizeAttribute based of the System.Web.Http.AuthorizeAttribute but none of the overridden events are called if I put it on a api method that has the [Authorize] at the class level.     Many js files are included into Scripts folder by default in ASP.NET MVC 2 Projects. I suppose developers use jquery library nearly every time they program a site, but what about other files? Please, can you tell scenarios and reasons when you: Use Microsoft.Ajax instead of jquery or mix both libraries? Do you use JQuery validation infrastructure instead of asp.net mvc one, or combine them both? Thank you in advance! P.S. there are also diferrent editions of the same file. Do you include different editions depenending on debug/release build?

    Hi I have a view that is not strongly typed. However I have in this view a partial view that is strongly typed. How do I do I pass the model to this strongly typed view? So I am not sure how to pass it on.     I understand that each page refresh, especially in 'AjaxLand', causes my back-end/code-behind class to be called from scratch... This is a problem because my class (which is a member object in System.Web.UI.Page) contains A LOT of data that it sources from a database. So now every page refresh in AjaxLand is causing me to making large backend DB calls, rather than just to reuse a class object from memory. Any fix for this? Is this where session variables come into play? Are session variables the only option I have to retain an object in memory that is linked to a single-user and a single-session instance?

  • How do you do ASP.Net performance testing?

    Our team is in need of a performance testing process. We use ASP.Net (both web forms and MVC) and performance testing is not currently built into our projects. We occasionally do some ad-hoc analysis, such as checking the load on the server or SQL Server Profiler, but we don't have a true beginning to end, built into the project performance testing methodology. Where is a good place to start? I'm interested in both: Process - General knowledge, including best practices. Essential list of tools. I'm aware of a few tools, such as what's built into the pricier versions of VS 2010 and JetBrains products, though I haven't used them.

    Hey... its XMAS Eve and something is bugging me... yes, I have work on my mind even when I am on holiday. The vast amount of frameworks available for PHP now use MVC. Even ASP.net has its own MVC module. I can see the attraction of MVC, I really can and I use it frequently. The only downside that I can see is that you have to fire up the whole system to execute a page request. Depending on your task this can be a little wasteful. So the question. In a professional environment is this the only way to use PHP nowadays or are their other design methods which have alternative benefits?

  • Is it better to define all routes in the Global.asax than to define separately in the areas?

    I am working on a MVC 4 project that will serve as an API layer of a larger application. The developers that came before me set up separate Areas to separate different API requests (i.e Search, Customers, Products, and so forth). I am noticing that each Area has separate Area registration classes that define routes for that area. However, the routes defined are not area-specific (i.e. {controller}/{action}/{id} might be defined redundantly in a couple of areas). My instinct would be to move all of these route definitions to a common place like the Global.asax to avoid redundancy and collisions, but I am not sure if I am correct about that.

  • Is this the correct way to implement .NET MVC website structure?

    I have recently seen a .NET MVC solution in which the markup in the .aspx views have a Controller as their model, and the .ascx user controls they contain use a separate model. I'm new to MVC and I wanted to find out about a few things I'm not clear on. An example of how the code is implemented: UserDetails.aspx view has markup that shows it's using the UserDetailsController.cs as the model. It contains RenderPartial("User_Details.ascx", UserDetailsModel) and passes it the UserDetailsModel. Is this the standard/correct way of implementing MVC? Or just one way to implement it? I also noticed that the classes used as Models appear to be Service classes that have [DataMember] and [DataContract] attributes on the class name and properties - what is the advantage of this implementation?

This is what I need to know for all available frameworks: .NET Framework prerequisites What other .NET Frameworks does it require? For example: .NET Framework 2.0 does not require anything, .NET Framework 2.0 SP1 requires .NET Framework 2.0 installed, but .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 does not require .NET Framework 3.5 installed (or maybe does? dunno) Reboot requirements Does the installation package require reboot after installation? Clean install requirements Does the installation package require clean install? (No pending delete/rename operations) Administrator privileges Does the installation package require administrator privileges to install? (I guess this is "yes" for all of them...)   • How to properly develop and deploy features for existing asp.net applications on IIS

    My question actually consists of multiple questions. I'm frequently reading about companies who deploy a small subset of features for a select amount of customers using the live "database". Ruby on Rails and its ecosystem have deployment tools and database migrations to deploy or rollback such features in a live production or staging environment. My question, how is this done for an asp.net (mvc in particular) application? How do you test your newly released features against live data? Do you have any tools to modify the existing database and roll back changes if necessary? Do you make backups before deployment? Update Maybe I should point out that my question is not really clear, getting more answers here will help me phrase the question better. To make it easier I will describe a situation I'm commonly seeing with some of my clients. My clients have large deployments of popular web applications. They do not have staging/QA/testing servers. (yes this is not optimal). The data their apps consist of are images, xml files, user uploads and data in Sql Server. Having a few records, of their production database and a couple of dummy files is not a substitute of testing against real data in my opinion. How would you design a workflow that can create a acceptable environment to mimic a production environment before going live?

A seguir está um breve resumo de apenas algumas destas melhorias: Novo Portal de Administração e Ferramentas de Linha de Comando O lançamento de hoje vem com um novo portal para a Windows Azure, o qual lhe permitirá gerenciar todos os recursos e serviços oferecidos na Windows Azure de uma forma perfeitamente integrada. O portal é muito rápido e fluido, suporta filtragem e classificação dos dados (o que o torna muito fácil de usar em implantações/instalações de grande porte), funciona em todos os navegadores, e oferece um monte de ótimos e novos recursos - incluindo suporte nativo à VM (máquina virtual), Web site, Storage (armazenamento), e monitoramento de Serviços hospedados na Nuvem. O novo portal é construído em cima de uma API de gerenciamento baseada no modelo REST dentro da Windows Azure - e tudo o que você pode fazer através do portal também pode ser feito através de programação acessando esta Web API. Também estamos lançando hoje ferramentas de linha de comando (que, igualmente ao portal, chamam as APIs de Gerenciamento REST) para tornar ainda ainda mais fácil a criação de scripts e a automatização de suas tarefas de administração. O novo cache distribuído pode ser configurado para ser executado em uma de duas maneiras: 1) Utilizando uma abordagem de cache co-localizado (co-located). Nesta opção você aloca um percentual de memória dos seus roles web e worker existentes para que o mesmo seja usado ??pelo cache, e então o cache junta a memória em um grande cache distribuído.  Qualquer dado colocado no cache por uma instância do role pode ser acessado por outras instâncias do role em sua aplicação - independentemente de os dados cacheados estarem armazenados neste ou em outro role. O grande benefício da opção de cache "co-localizado" é que ele é gratuito (você não precisa pagar nada para ativá-lo) e ele te permite usar o que poderia ser de outra forma memória não utilizada dentro das VMs da sua aplicação. 2) Alternativamente, você pode adicionar "cache worker roles" no seu serviço na nuvem que são utilizados unicamente para o cache. Estes também serão unidos em um grande anel de cache distribuído que outros roles dentro da sua aplicação podem acessar.
