• rvmsudo foreman export upstart without asking for password

  My capistrano deploy.rb has a foreman export command for a rails app on Ubuntu 10.04 So, while deploying, I want to export the foreman to upstart script. But doing that, the command rvmsudo foreman export ... asks for root password and I cannot do anything. • Synchronizing git repository with post-receive hook

  Hello, I have a redmine server and a gitolite server on the same machine. I want Redmine's GIT repository to get updated when a commit is registered. I thought of adding a post-receive script that updates the repository: post-receive: cd home/redmine/repositories/repo git pull this doesn't work because the script is run by the gitolite user instead of the redmine user owner of the repository cloned folder. How can I change the user that executes the script inside a batch script?, is there a cleaner way of updating the repository? thanks in advance.

• Installed Perl DBI Module Can't Be Found

  I'm trying to setup a Perl development environment on my Mac laptop and have been having a really hard time getting it working. I thought I had everything configured correctly but when I try to run a sample script it is reporting errors with the DBI module and can't access the DB.   Hello, Fedora 12 2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686 I downloaded the gparted iso and burnt it to a CD. gparted-live-0.5.2-1 This GParted Live was created by: create-gparted-live -l en -b u -e e -d sid -m http://free.nchc.org.tw/debian -s http://free.nchc.org.tw/debian-security -g http://free.nchc.org.tw/drbl-core -n 2.6.32-3 -i 0.5.2-1 The files and folders: isolinux live syslinux COPYING GParted-Live-Version I put the disk in and reboot. Nothing happens. I just get a flashing cursor in the top left hand corner. I then have to switch of the power button to get it to reboot. I have done this a number of time and the results are the same. Can anyone tell me how to boot from the gparted liveCD? Many thanks for any suggestions,

• Issues with partitions WIN 7

  I was trying to make some space to install linux in my HP notebook. The computer had 4 partitions, I made space shrinking one and created a new one (facepalm) using the windows partitioning tool. It show me some warning message saying something about dynamic partitions, I ingored it, and went to the linux live CD. I installed linux in the new partition, after the installation completed it told me that GRUB cannot be installed I dont remember why. So now, it doesnt boot, neither windows nor linux. After google for a while I found the diskpart command, it gives me this info: DISKPART> list disk DISK ### Status -------- --------------- DISK 0 Invalid DISKPART> select disk 0 DISKPART> select partition Partition ### TYPE ------------- -------------- Partition 1 Dynamic Data Partition 2 Dynamic Data Partition 3 Dynamic Data Partition 4 Primary <- I think I put linux here Any idea whats happening? • Windows XP Installation issue - cannot find hard disk

  A friend of mine gave me a laptop with Windows 8 installed and nothing else. I don't like it so I am trying to remove it by installing Windows XP. I have a windows XP installation CD that I have used before and worked fine, but didn't work when I tried to install it on the Windows 8 machine. It keeps telling me I don't have a drive to install to. Then I log into Windows 8 again and install check partitions. I found 2 and tried to make a new one but it will only let me make one of 69mb. Next, I tied to find a way to go back to XP with BCD install and try to set the boot loader for XP but it wasnt there. Somehow I deleted the bootloader for Windows 8 and now it asks me for a recovery tool for media. I am not familiar with the laptop specs, but it is a Toshiba with about 250GB storage, and above 1GHz processor.

  If I've changed the target of /usr/bin/python from /usr/bin/python2.7 to /usr/bin/python3.2 (I realize this was an ABSOUTELY HORRIBLE idea) in Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS. Afterwards, several applications, including software-center and update-manager have stopped working. Insofar as I can tell, this is because they are written in Python2.7. I replaced the default /usr/bin/python shebang with the 2.7 one, and this fixes them on the application level. Switching /usr/bin/python back to /usr/bin/python2.7 really isn't an option, but is there a list of all applications installed by default in Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS, if installed from a new CD-R, that use a shebang of #!/usr/bin/python instead of #!/usr/bin/pythonX.Y?

• Install OS X 10.5 on Intel 1GB Macbook

  I'm trying to install Mac OS X 10.5 on a MacBook that previously had 10.4 on it. i am getting an error after selecting the language. What could be causing a box on the screen that says: Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer. It's an Intel MacBook with 1GB of DDR2 memory. 80GB hard drive. It has been formatted now, so there's no going back. According to the System Profiler on the 10.5 boot CD, the MacBook is version MacBook2,1. Thanks!

• CentOS 5.4 NFS v4 client file permissions differ from original files & NFS Share file contents

  Having a strange problem with NFS share and file permissions on the 1 out of the 2 NFS clients, web1 has file permissions issues but web2 is fine. web1 and web2 are load balanced web servers. So questions are: how do I ensure NFS share file contents retain the same permissions for user/group as the original files on web1 server like they do on web2 server ? how do I reverse what I did on web1, i tried unmount command and said command not found ? Information: I'm using 3 dedicated server setup. All 3 servers CentOS 5.4 64bit based. servers are as follows: web1 - nfs client with file permissions issues web2 - nfs client file permissions are OKAY db1 - nfs share at /nfsroot web2 nfs client was setup by my web host, while web1 was setup by me. I did the following commands on web1 and it worked with updating db1 nfsroot share at /nfsroot/site_css with latest files on web1 but the file permissions don't stick even if i use tar with -p command to perserve file permissions ? cd /home/username/public_html/forums/script/ tar -zcp site_css/ > site_css.tar.gz mount -t nfs4 nfsshareipaddress:/site_css /home/username/public_html/forums/scripts/site_css/ -o rw,soft cd /home/username/public_html/forums/script/ tar -zxf site_css.tar.gz But checking on web1 file permissions no longer username user/group but owned by nobody ? but web2 file permissions correct ? This is only a problem for web1 while web2 is correct ? Looks like numeric ids aren't the same ? • Simple Workstation Imaging Solution?

  I need a fairly cheap imaging solution for Windows XP corporate desktops. Ideally, I'd be able to set up a desktop exactly as we want it, create an image, deploy this image to a server, then boot a new desktop to a CD/USB Drive/Network and quickly set up the workstation. Ideally, each computer would also have a unique workstation name. Any ideas? Right now I'm using a custom built Linux DD solution, but it's slow, not network-based, can't image multiple computers at the same time as there's only one copy on a USB drive, and can't uniquely name the computers. • Permissions problem on mounting afp drive

  I am trying to mount a network drive via AFP on an Ubuntu 10.04 server machine. After installing AFP support, I use the following command: sudo mount_afp afp://USER:[email protected]/directory/ /media/dir This seems to work and it tells me that mounting succeeded. However, when I navigate to /media/dir I get the following error: cd: cfs: Input/output error Permissions in /media are: d????????? ? ? ? ? dir/ drwx------ 12 user 4.0K 2010-10-25 16:08 otherdisk/ So there is a permissions problem here. I eventually want to mount this drive automatically using fstab. What do I need to do to make the disk accessible?

• Mac - Run java program at launch

  I want to launch a java program (server program) at computer start up. I can run it from the command line perfectly. I created /Library/Server/startFS.sh. The file is executable by root and contains: cd /Library/Server/FiloSync /usr/bin/java -jar /Library/Server/FiloSync/filosync-server-latest.jar -p 7000 -s 7001 I can't get my launchd plist included here, the formatting is all off. I can run it fine from the command line: './startFS.sh' but when I put create the plist (via Lingon), nothing happens. Now, when run, it outputs a few lines to the console. Might that be problem?? I have tried prepending 'nohup' and post pending '&', but no combination seems to work. Help please.

  i installed gentoo by the handbook from official site , when i got into the step 7.b. Installing the Sources , the book says :Code Listing 2.2: Viewing the kernel source symlink, When you take a look in /usr/src you should see a symlink called linux pointing to your kernel source. but ,in my virtualbox, there is no such file! ,only a linux-3..3.38-gentoo directory in the src and when i tried to use cd linux-3.3.38-gentoo and make menuconfig , an error occured , init/Kconfig:389: can't open file "kernel/irq/Kconfig" how can i solve the problem?

• Windows does not detect any modems anymore[HSPA]

  By an accident i uninstalled my Connect manager (ZTE). but when i re-install it the virtual CD drive is detected but it does not detect the drivers. When i direct to the folder containing the relevant drivers(.sys files) still it doesnt detect. Then i tried a modem of a different brand Huawei the same problem presists As i understand it is not a device(brand) driver specific issue as it does not detect modem(dongles) of any brand. when i plugged in a different USB device(a pen drive) the driver is detected and it works perfectly. Please help me with the issue i have tried system restore but it doesnt work. I want a repair that works without re-installing windows [Edit] I tried Karan's suggested method with usboblivion it didnt work. now im sure that the issue does not deal with the registry

• HP ML115 with P400 Smart Array Controller

  Hi, I have a HP ML115 server I have installed a HP P400 Smart Array Controller card, I also have 4 x 1TB Samsung Hard drives. I'm unable to get the the controller to detect the hard drives, I have changed the drives to SATA 1.5G without luck, I have also tried connecting a single 80GB Maxtor drive without luck The controller shows up just after boot and tries to initialize, The controller does not show up in the POST prompt, although I can see the controller when booting off a ACU CD THe controller firmware is a little old v4.12 but I have no way to update it. Any ideas on how I can get this going?

• How to sort by file's modified date on IIS web server in Windows 7?

  Apache has this built in since 1996 which is 17 years ago... for Microsoft's IIS Web server which is available on Windows 7, is there a way to make it be able to sort the file listing by file modification dates? For example, show the file listing with the label "Date", "Filename", and clicking it will sort the files by that attribute. The only info I could find is: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc732762(v=ws.10).aspx cd %windir%\system32\inetsrv appcmd set config /section:directoryBrowse /showFlags:Time|Size|Extension|Date|LongDate|None but it doesn't work.

• yum remove doesn't remove things completely ?

  I am trying to remove apache completely from my server,which is a ec2 instance, running Amazonian linux v2.6xx. Lets assume I have a file in /etc/httpd/conf/xyz.txt I am using the following code : yum remove httpd when I try to cd /etc/httpd I get "there is no such directory" error. Next, if I install httpd again, using this : yum install httpd, and then if I look in /etc/httpd/conf/ I still have that file as it is.. untouched.. How is this possible ? How do I "Clean" this ?

• KVM/Libvirt bridged/routed networking not working on newer guest kernels

  I have a dedicated server running Debian 6, with Libvirt (0.9.11.3) and Qemu-KVM (qemu-kvm-1.0+dfsg-11, Debian). I am having a problem getting bridged/routed networking to work in KVM guests with newer kernels (2.6.38). NATted networking works fine though. Older kernels work perfectly fine as well. The host kernel is at version 3.2.0-2-amd64, the problem was also there on an older host kernel. • Netbook with Windows 7 Starter - Can I upgrade to Professional or Ultimate?

  There are finally Windows 7 netbooks available, but they come with Windows 7 "Starter". Can I upgrade "Starter" to Windows 7 Ultimate using a normal retail DVD (and its new licence key)? What about special netbook drivers? Will they be replaced by an in-place upgrade? Does Windows 7 even have a way to upgrade to another edition or will I have to delete and re-install? If I delete and re-install, how will I get the special netbook drivers to install again? In my case it will probably be a HP netbook (HP Mini 110-1115SA). Can I just install the drivers from the HP CD that comes with the computer? Any ideas?

• Blinking cursor after repair install on Win XP

  I have an Asus Eee PC netbook which I upgraded the drive of. After some shenanigans, I was able to do a repair install from my Windows XP CD. However, I still have a blinking cursor in the upper-left-hand corner after POST. I tried going into the recovery console and doing chkdsk/fixboot/fixmbr with no effect. Any suggestions would be appreciated! (Sorry if it's inappropriate to post a followup as a new question; I'm not sure how I should do it in a way that will cause it to actually be seen). • Weird video problem with Linux variants

  I decided recently I wanted to give Linux a go so I first download a Ubuntu boot CD. The boot menu came up fine, and then a glowing Ubuntu logo was in the middle of the screen for a while. Then the screen was flickering orange and black. I guess this is where the GUI should of came up. Pushing Ctrl+Alt+F1 brought me to the command prompt OK. I thought this may have something to do with Ubuntu, so I downloaded Linux Mint. The same sort of thing happened. It booted fine, displayed it's logo for a while and then flickered, only green and black this time. Does this sound like a video card problem? How can I resolve this? Many thanks

• nginx symlinks permission denied / 403 Forbidden on Mac OSX

  So I have an nginx server running on Mac OSX and I am trying to create a symlink in my nginx www directory from somewhere else. In the browser I get the wonderful 403 Forbidden error. I have also tried chmod'ing my life away for the past few hours. There doesn't seem to be anything on the stack about it. One thing concerns me is that I am not sure if symlinks are directly supported by ngninx on Mac. Trying to use disable_symlink directive results in: nginx: [emerg] unknown directive "disable_symlinks" in /usr/local/etc/nginx/nginx.conf:44` Some info about my setup: nginx -v : nginx version: nginx/1.4.2 To create the symlink I do the following: cd /Users/levi/www ln -s "/Users/levi/Desktop/.../client" "/Users/levi/www/client" The error in the log: [error] 11864#0: *7 open() "/Users/levi/www/client" failed (13: Permission denied), client: 127.0.0.1, server: _, request: "GET /client HTTP/1.1", host: "localhost" Any help is much appreciated. • Create NTFS symbolic links from within Linux

  Is there a Linux utility that can create NTFS symbolic links? That is, a link on an NTFS partition that points to another NTFS folder - one that will work within Windows 7, specifically. I wish to relocate a folder that is normally in-use while Windows is running. This machine can already dual-boot into Ubuntu, so I'd like to leverage that. EDIT: To keep this from potentially turning into "which Windows Live CD is best", I will limit this question to "Is it possible with Linux, yes or no?"

  I have bought a new video card based on the ATI Radeon HD 5670 chipset. I couldn't make it work with the latest ATI Catalyst drivers found on their website, only the drivers found on the CD delivered with the card worked. How can I know the version of Catalyst that is installed on my PC (running Windows 7 64-bits)?
