• Is it possible to copy recordings off of a DVR box hard drive?

  My cable TV company gives me a Cisco Explorer 8640HDC DVR box that can record shows from TV. I know that it contains a hard drive to save the shows on. What format and file system are used to store the videos on the hard drive? I have looked at the documentation for this DVR box and there is no technical information about the manner in which recordings are stored. Is it possible to connect the hard drive to a computer and extract the recordings from it?

• Can't find windows 2000 domain after PDC Change

  This is a windows 2000 domain issue. I had an old win2000 PDC that was beginning to fail. So, trying to be pre-emptive, I installed a new BDC, then "demoted" the old PDC and took it off the network. Now it appears that no member server can "find" the domain anymore. No logins work (for services or a RDP or anything). What I've tried (based on googling): Verified sysvol is shared on all servers. Used nslookup to verify that DC's are being found. netdiag /fix meta data cleanup routines. verified no firewall issues (port 389 etc) seizing all roles to new PDC (I did that as part of the original promotion). LMHOST file and Netbios settings. At the moment it seems like I can get the DC's returned but cannot contact them. I'm at a loss. My latest attempt was to remove a member server from the domain and try to "re-add" it. When I do that I get this message: The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.cfwebtools.com The following domain controllers were identified by the query: db-dev1.cfwebtools.com file-prod1.cfwebtools.com cfwt-pdc2.cfwebtools.com However no domain controllers could be contacted. It then goes on to ask if I've checked my A record and made sure they are running. Is there a way to force this domain to be seen? I also shared sysvol (or double checked it) and restarted the dfsr service. More information. I got looking at sysvol and found it was not shared on 2 of these servers. Only one of them (db-dev1) has a "good" or at least "populated" sys vol store. So I tried doing a "d2" recovery of my PDC against that good sysvol. But it never synchs - or at least it does not seem to synch. I'm guessing if I could get sysvol and netlogin to kick in and replicate that would fix my issue. I think these DC's aren't responding because they are waiting for replication which is broken somehow. Would taking down all the DC's except for db-dev1 fix the issue - at least temporarily? I know I can't just copy the sysvol stuff over to the other 2 can I?

• What are the most likely bottlenecks determining the performance of CamStudio screen recording?

  When doing screen recording, I can get a frame rate of maybe 15 frames per second for the full screen on my 1080p monitor using the XVID codec. I can increase the speed a bit by recording a region, changing screen modes, and tweaking other settings, but I'm curious what hardware upgrades might give me the biggest bang for my buck. My PC is budget, but modern... Athlon 2 X4 645 (3.1GHz, quad core, limited cache) processor. 4GB single channel DDR3 1066 RAM. ASRock motherboard with NVidia GeForce 7025/nForce 630a Chipset. ATI Radeon HD 5450 graphics card - 512MB on board, not configured to steal system RAM. I dual-boot Windows XP and Windows 7. For the moment, XP is my bigger performance concern as it's still my getting-things-done O/S as opposed to my browser-host O/S. My goal is to make a few programming-related tutorials. For a lot of that I don't need screen recording - I can make up some slides, record audio with the PC switched off, yada yada. When I do need screen recording, I'll mostly be recording Notepad++, Visual Studio or a command prompt. Occasionally, I may be recording some kind of graphics or diagram program and using my pre-Bamboo cheap Wacom tablet - I have the CS2 versions of Photoshop and Illustrator, but I'd much more likely be using Microsoft Paint. Basically, what I'll be recording won't be making huge demands on the machine - but recording a fair number of pixels (720p preferred) will be useful. What's particularly wierd - not so long ago I still had a five-year-old Pentium 4 based PC. And (with the same 1080p monitor) it could record at not far from the same frame rate. So clearly the performance issues are more subtle than just throw-money-at-it. My first guess would be that the main bottleneck is the bandwidth for transferring data to/from the graphics card. Is that likely to be correct? In support of that, see this [Radeon HD 5450 review][1] - the memory bandwidth is only 12.8 GB/s. If you can't get data out of graphics memory quickly, you can't transfer it back to the system memory quickly. Apparently, that's slower than some top-end cards in 2002.

• windows live playback left and right audio channel

  I have a multichannel (4x stereo) audiocard (m-audio delta1010lt) and want to playback /playthru some of the channels live. But I am only able to playback/playthru the left channel on each stereo-input (CH1, CH3, CH5, CH7). For CH2,CH4,CH6,CH8 I see the Windows Volume-Indicator going up and down in the Windows Record-Audiosettings but I don't hear any playback sound. Is there a way to playback/playthru all input channels?

What we want is that HQ to be able to see the live/recorded videos of each remote site and including itself. • Setting up Virtual Hosts with Apache on Windows 2008 server for multiple sites. Complicated setup, including subversion

  I am setting up apache on my windows 2008 server at my home. It will serve 2 functions. Subversion hosting to allow me and some others to manage company documents with version control Local website hosting for web development. Will need to run several websites since I generally work on more then one site at a time. Heres what I have done so far. I set up subversion and apache 2.2 using some walk troughs. I changed the default port to 1337. (im a nerd) Using dyndns.com I created a domain to forward to my home ip which is dynamic. ( company.gotdns.org) I then went into my DNS for my company.com and added a record to point repo.company.com to company.gotdns.org At this point people who need access to my file repository can access by going to repo.company.com/repo which is good so far. My question comes on the next step, setting up virtual hosts with apache. Ideally I would like to have my local website be viewable by some others in the company from their homes. So, say I am working on site1, I would like to have them be able to view this by going site1.roeland.bythepixel.com. At the same time, I would like to have site10.wouter.bythepixel.com go to his local setup for site10. What I have done for this: I went into my DNS for company.com and added a record to point roeland.company.com to company.gotdns.org (which translates to my ip). I added code to my httpd-vhosts.conf (listed at bottom) I added code to my host file (listed at bottom) Hah, so of course this doenst work as excepted.. going to site1.roeland.bythepixel.com doesnt bring up my test1 site. Could anyone point me where I may be going wrong? • Stereo mix causing inaudible input in XP?

  I'm trying to record some of my work process in Camtasia using the stereo mix input. However, my headset microphone is quiet at the best of times, and no matter what combination of input and output volume settings I use, my voice is consistently inaudible. Know of a good fix for this? Should I be looking for a decent audio mixer--and if so, do you know of one that's as effective as it is free?

  I am sure I am not the only one that asked this question. we have a daily conf call that tanks place in a foreign country. too early to attend so I decided to use skype and record it automatically. I use Task Scheduler "c:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe"/callto:+XXXXXXXXXX,,,125 the dialer is supposed to dial the XX number and wait a few seconds (the ",") then dial the 125 access code. Now I have since re-installed Windows to 64bit, and this application does not work, saying it's incompatible. • Change ISP and MX static ip but no mail

  We have recently changed our ISP, I have changed the MX record for our domain name to point to the new external static IP address for the router on the new ISP's connexion but I am not getting any mail (though sending works). Do I just have to wait will the change propagates? I am slightly concerned because I can connect to the web email service made visible through the new router, but not actually receive email.
