Accessing an Access DB from Outlook via VBA

Hi The situation: In Outlook I get a message from a server. The content of the message needs to be put into an Access db. But, there may not exist another message with the same date. So, I need to look into a db if there is already a message with the same date and time. If there exists one, then it needs to be replaced and otherwise the message needs to be added to the database. The database contains a list of current positions from the vehicles on the road. The problem: I have problems to compare a date time with a date time in an Access DB via VBA. The query I use returns no records but there is a record in the database. This is the query I use: adoRS.Open "SELECT * FROM currentpositions WHERE ((currentpositions. [dateLT])=" & "#" & date_from_message & "#" & ")", adoConn, adOpenStatic, adLockOptimistic Second I need to now what the result is of that query. Best (Java) book for understanding 'under the bonnet' for programming?

What would you say is the best book to buy to understand exactly how programming works under the hood in order to increase performance? I've coded in assembly at university, I studied computer architecture and I obviously did high level programming, but what I really dont understand is things like: -what is happening when I perform a cast -whats the difference in performance if I declare something global as opposed to local? -How does the memory layout for an ArrayList compare with a Vector or LinkedList? -Whats the overhead with pointers? -Are locks more efficient than using synchronized? -Would creating my own array using int[] be faster than using ArrayList -Advantages/disadvantages of declaring a variable volatile I have got a copy of Java Performance Tuning but it doesnt go down very low and it contains rather obvious things like suggesting a hashmap instead of using an ArrayList as you can map the keys to memory addresses etc. I want something a bit more Computer Sciencey, linking the programming language to what happens with the assembler/hardware. The reason im asking is that I have an interview coming up for a job in High Frequency Trading and everything has to be as efficient as possible, yet I cant remember every single possible efficiency saving so i'd just like to learn the fundamentals. How to organize RMI Client-Server eBanking architecture

I am developing a secured eBanking service in RMI with a GUI both for Server and Client. The Server must be able to log every operations (new User, deleted User, Withdrawal, Lodgement...) The Client will do these operations. As everything is secured, the Client must at first, create an account with a name and a password in the GUI. After that, the GUI adds the User in the Bank UserList(arrayList) as a new Customer and the User can do several operations. It seems straightforward at first but I think my conception is not correct. Is it correct to send the whole Bank by RMI ? Because at first I thought Bank would be the server but I cannot find another way to do that. Currently, the Client GUI asks for a login and a password, and receives the Bank by RMI. A User is characterized by a name and a hash of the password. private String name; private byte[] passwordDigest; In fact the GUI is doing every security checking and I don't know if it's relevant. When you type login//password, it will search the login in the Bank and compare the hash of the password. In fact I have the impression that the Client knows too much information because when you have the Bank you have everything.. Does it seem correct or do I need to change my implementation ?

Given the code below, how do I compare a List of objects's values with a test value? I'm building a geolocation application. I'll be passing in longitude and latitude and would like to have the service answer back with the location closest to those values. Unit Testing - Algorithm or Sample based ?

Say I'm trying to test a simple Set class public IntSet : IEnumerable<int> { Add(int i) {...} //IEnumerable implementation... } And suppose I'm trying to test that no duplicate values can exist in the set. R Tree 50,000 foot overview?

I'm working on a school project that involves taking a lat/long point and finding the top five closest points in a known list of places. The list is to be stored in memory, with the caveat that we must choose an "appropriate data structure" -- that is, we cannot simply store all the places in an array and compare distances one-by-one in a linear fashion. The teacher suggested grouping the place data by US State to prevent calculating the distance for places that are obviously too far away. I think I can do better. From my research online it seems like an R-Tree or one of its variants might be a neat solution. Unfortunately, that sentence is as far as I've gotten with understanding the actual technique, as the literature is simply too dense for my non-academic head. Can somebody give me a really high overview of what the process is for populating an R-Tree with lat/long data, and then traversing the tree to find those 5 nearest neighbors of a given point? Additionally the project is in C, and I don't have to reinvent the wheel on this, so if you've used an existing open source C implementation of an R Tree I'd be interested in your experiences.

How to get a checkout-able revision info from subversion?

I want to check a svn url and to get the latest revision, then checkout it, I don't want to use HEAD because I will compare the latest revision to others. so I use "svn info" to get the "Last Changed Rev" for the url like this: D:\Project>svn info svn://.../branches/.../path Path: ... Joomla ImageBrowser Lightbox not working

I've been using an image browser for Joomla called ImageBrowser. It's great - easy uploads, easy for clients to use, even handles zip file uploads. I have Joomla v. 1.5.15 installed and the newest version of this plugin as well on 3 or 4 of our sites with no fuss or issues. Recently, the ImageBrowser on one of our sites started acting strangely. It was as if the Lightbox effect that we should have disappeared completely. I compared the settings for the site to another and found they were identical. I couldn't find a solution in the documentation or forums. Here's the URL to look at: http://neda.us/photos?view=gallery&folder=BSU+12-5-09. You can compare that to another of our sites with the same plugin and settings at South Oak Floors dot COM. You should be able to click on a thumbnail and get a full size view of the image in a Lightbox. Any help much needed and much appreciated.

c# How to find if two objects are equal

Hi, I'm needing to know the best way to compare two objects and to find out if there equal. I'm overriding both GethashCode and Equals. So a basic class looks like: public class Test { public int Value { get; set; } public string String1 { get; set; } public string String2 { get; set; } public override int GetHashCode() { return Value ^ String1.GetHashCode() ^ String2.GetHashCode(); } public override bool Equals( object obj ) { return GetHashCode() == obj.GetHashCode(); } } So for testing purposes I created two objects: Test t = new Test() { Value = 1, String1 ="One", String2 = "One" }; Test t2 = new Test() { Value = 1, String1 = "Two", String2 = "Two" }; bool areEqual = t.Equals( t2 ); In testing this areEqual returns true event though both objects are different. I realise this is because String1 and String2 are the same value in each object and thus cancels each other out when hashing. Is there a better way off hashing object that the method I have that will resolve my issue?

The config file is as below: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <configuration> <appSettings> <add key="key1" value="hello,world!"/> </appSettings> <connectionStrings> <add name="conn1" connectionString="abcd"/> </connectionStrings> </configuration> .NET Framework provide the following types to get the connection string: 1- ConnectionStringsSection : stands for the config section containing several connection strings 2- ConnectionStringSettingsCollection : stands for the connection string collection 3- ConnectionStringSettings : stands for a certain connection string. .NET Framework also provide the following types to get the App Settings: 4- AppSettingsSection 5- KeyValueConfigurationCollection 6- KeyValueConfigurationElement Compare 2 to 5, 3 to 6, why are there extra "s" in ConnectionStringSetting[s]Collection and ConnectionStringSetting[s]? This mis-spelling is really mis-leading. I think it's a design flaw. Has anyone noticed that?

jQuery and executing code until mouseout is called

Good day all, I am tasked with building a slider for our site. Here is my goal: <div id="abc"> <div id="slider">...</div> </div> I need to move "slider" left 30px at a time when a button is hovered over, and right 30px when another button is hovered over. My problem is that there doesn't seem to be a reliable method for telling the code that the mouse hasn't left the are in question, unless there is something I did not think about or read yet. In other words, when the mouse is OVER the a button, the code to move "slider" left is executed until the mouseout is called. I'm not really sure how to do this. The only way I can think of is to look at the offsetTop and offsetLeft and offsetTop DOM properties and compare them to the mouse position, than run checks to see if the mouse is within the bounds of the box, and if not than it will stop the execution of code. Is there a better way to do this?

Java Days & Bookings

Ok this is an extension of a question I asked about earlier yet this is the next step that is unclear to me. Everything else will be ready and this part is driving me mad! some members provided great help and I already made progress with that info, but this is just another obstacle. I am creating a booking object (as was suggested) that will have a start date and end date. each booking will also have a number of seats associated with it (that I require to reserve). The total available number of seats any given day 46 (as the total capacity of the hall is 46 seats). so in assumption that I have a booking to be made in the system, and start date is 1st jan and end date is 10th jan. The question is how can I check the remaining seats in all those days between the range to see if requested number could be hosted or not? and then when the second booking is made, it will have to see that the days in this range already have less than 46 and decrement further if possible to host the reservation. one of the members, and I appreciate his effort, gladly contributed a method to compare if this booking is after or before the existing bookings. PHP: Three item validation comparison

I have 3 featured product panels on the homepage, and I'm writing a CMS page for it. I'm trying to validate the items. They are selected via three <select> elements, featured1, featured2 and featured3. The default is <option value="0" selected>Select an element</option> I need to validate the $_POST to ensure that the user hasn't selected the same product for more than one of the panels. I have worked out that each $_POST needs to be $_POST['featuredN'] > 0 but I can't seem to find a logical way of processing the 7 potential outcomes. Using a logic table, where 1 is a set value. 1 2 3 ------- 0 0 0 1 1 1 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 1 1 0 0 1 1 If an item is 0, then I will not update it, but I want the user to be able to update a single item if needs be. I cannot find a logical way to see if the item is not 0, and then compare it to another item if that also is not 0. So far my colleague suggested, adding up the values. Which works to see if condition 1 0 0 0 is not met. I have a vague feeling that some form of recursive function might be in order, but I can't quite get my brain to help me on this one! So to the collective brain! :)

Finding and marking the largest of three values in a two dimensional array

I am working on a display screen for our office, and I can't seem to think of a good way to find the largest numerical value in a set of data in a two dimensional array. I've looked at using max() and also asort() but they don't seem to cope with a two dimensional array. I'm returning my data through our mysql class, so the rows are returned in a two dimensional array. Array( [0] => Array( [am] => 12, [sales] => 981), [1] => Array( [am] => 43, [sales] => 1012), [2] => Array( [am] => 17, [sales] => 876) ) I need to output a class when foreaching the data in my table for the AM with the highest sales value. Short of comparing them all in if statements. I have tried to get max() on the array, but it returns an array, as it's look within the dimension. When pointing it at a specific dimension it returns the key not the value. I figured that I could asort() the array and pop the top value off, store it in a variable and then compare against that in my foreach() loop, but that seems to have trouble sorting across two dimensions. Lastly, I figured that I could foreach() the values, comparing them against the previous one each time, untill I found the largest. This approach however means storing every value, luckily only three, but then comparing against them all again. Surely there must be a simpler way to achieve this, short of converting it into a single dimension array, then doing an asort() on that?

How to make a plot from summaryRprof?

This is a question for an university assignment. I was given three algorithms to calculate the GCD that I already did. My problem is getting the Rprof results to a plot so I can compare them side by side. Best way to parse this particular string using awk / sed?

Hi, I need to get a particular version string from a file (call it version.lst) and use it to compare another in a shell script. For example sake, the file contains lines that look like this: V1.000 -- build date and other info here -- APP1 V1.000 -- build date and other info here -- APP2 V1.500 -- build date and other info here -- APP3 .. and so on. Let's say I am trying to grab the first version (in this case, V1.000) from APP1. Obviously, the versions can change and I want this to be dynamic. What I have right now works: var = `cat version.lst | grep " -- APP1" | grep -Eo V[0-9].[0-9]{3}` Pipe to grep will get the line containing APP1 and the second pipe to grep will get the version string. However, I hear grep is not the way to do this so I'd like to learn the best way using awk or sed. Any ideas? I am new to both and haven't found a tutorial easy enough to learn the syntax of it. Do they support egrep? Thanks!

Convert C# (with typed events) to VB.NET

I have an ASPX page (with VB Codebehind). I would like to extend the GridView class to show the header / footer when no rows are returned. I found a C# example online (link) (source). However, I cannot convert it to VB because it uses typed events (which are not legal in VB). I have tried several free C# to VB.NET converters online, but none have worked. Please convert the example to VB.NET or provide an alternate method of extending the GridView class. Notes / Difficulties: If you get an error with DataView objects, specify the type as System.Data.DataView and the type comparison could be the following: If data.[GetType]() Is GetType(System.Data.DataView) Then Since the event MustAddARow cannot have a type in VB (and RaiseEvent event doesn't have a return value), how can I compare it to Nothing in the function OnMustAddARow()? Edited: I was trying to build a binary tree contains the node of ListOfPpl, and need to sort it in the lexicographic. Here's my code for insertion on the node. Altering sql tables based on condition

Is there any possible way to add a row of data to only some of the tables in a database? I am not sure what parameter I could use amongst the tables to compare them to each other. Any Ideas? For Example: My database has tables that are (let's say) group A tables, and tables that are group B. I want to add a row to only the group B tables while leaving the group A tables untouched. Sorry I should have been a bit more specific. The tables that need to have a row added will change. My application monitors inventory in different store locations(each table in my database represents a store). When I need to add an item to inventory(the items are rows in the tables) I don't want to have to manually add the row to all the store tables. My problem is: Not all the tables in the database represent stores. For instance one table stores the user login data. Obviously I do not want to add the new row to this table. How do I update only the tables that represent stores?

Javascript int variable from ASP.NET MVC Model data?

I need to get model data into a javascript variable and use it as an int to compare values. But I can only figure out how to get the model data as strings, otherwise the compiler complains.
