• TFS 2008 to TFS 2010 moves and some issues

  There have been many things going on this year around TFS.  Most of them had to do with migrations (I don’t call them upgrades for the most part since it involved new hardware and such).  Many were implementations using the Conchango SfTS template (now EMC). But there were others that were CMMI or Agile 4.0. Everything would move just fine, no issues.  That was until you attempted to run Test Case Management or run the last configuration steps for Lab Management. There is an error that states a project is not ready to run or integrate with Test or Lab Management.  And while there was some documentation on how to adjust and update the Agile WITs to work with it, there was still some disconnect to making it work with CMMI. • MSDN Flash - MIX10 Special: What Happens in Vegas.

  This week the MSDN Flash is a wrap up of everything MIX. We all know the old adage "What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas"; yet with live broadcasts, blogs and tweets that is no longer the case. • Google Analytics showing more unique visitors than there are pages on an intranet site

  I take care of a company intranet and measure the traffic with GA. I am absolutely sure that there are no more than 5000 URLs in our company and it is impossible to check the intranet from outside the company network. Yet when I check the number of Unique Visitors (UV) in the last year GA says there were 36.500 of them. How is that possible? I thought UV should measure each URL only once in the given time period. Could anybody explain how this actually works? Can it be that the cookie trackers expire after some time and are counted more then once?

• How reliable is the battery data in ubuntu the power statistics?

  Right now the power statistics show that: Energy when full: 25.5 Wh Energy (design): 93.2 Wh And indeed the battery doesn't seem to be lasting as long as it used too. My question: Is this data reliable? Does it really indicate that I should replace the battery, or could it be the charger, laptop, or OS that is stopping the battery from fully charging? Is any way of validating the battery is indeed to blame? I'd like to be sure before shelling out 90$ for a new battery. (If it helps, the battery is a 3 year old dell 9 cell rated at 90 Wh).

  I was always told I was left brained and could not draw. And I bought into that view. Somewhere down the road years ago I did learn to play guitar and to play by ear at that.  Now that’s not all left brained so my right brain must be working.  About a year ago, my good friend Billy Hollis turned me own to a book by Betty Edwards (http://www.drawright.com/).  I started reading this and soon I found my self drawing on napkins in restaurants while we were waiting on food and at many other times too.  Dang’d if I could not draw! • how to fix bad seo after being hacked

  About a year ago my wordpress website was hacked & some company decided to go nuts and actually do some "SEO" on the various links it created. Some of the pages would show up on google as "payday cash advance" instead of "portfolio". The issue has been resolved, but now as I've been doing GOOD seo, I've noticed (when checking backlinks) that there are TONS of links still on the internet (mostly broken sites now) that have links to my website with titles like: "get a loan today" and so on. Is there a way to remove these links ? Can I tell google to ignore them ? Help !

• which service to use among Amazon's free tier for Java app

  this is the first time I am going to host a java app, Amazon offers a free tier which provides free usage for one year, and I am going to use it. But there are so many services (S3, EC2, etc etc), I cant figure out which service is for web hosting, which service is for what use, their docs is so huge, I am confused, what to read. can anybody write some good points, about which service to use specifically for Java apps, how much I will be charged, and they ask for credit/debit card credential for signup, does it mean they will debit me even in the free period?

• Mobile phone detection (brand, model, browser etc)

  What do you use to detect visitor's mobile phone, down to the model if possible? Currently we maintain our own database but it's really getting behind due to lack of manpower to maintain it, so we decided to give 3rd party solution a try. These are my candidates but I don't have time to really try them all: DeviceAtlas - 1 year personal evaluation, but basic license is affordable. Their database look solid with daily update and user-contributed tests / updates. I am favoring this one at the moment. DetectRight - I was recommended this by a colleague but really can't find much from their site. 20k devices -- really? WURFL - Open source, database collaboratively derived from UAProf. So basically if you're going with UAProf solution, you're better off with WURFL. DetectMoBileBrowsers - This looks like the simplest of all. Too bad it's language dependent (PHP). Please share your experience or suggestions!

• 24Hrs of PASS is back - and I won't use the phone this time

  It was very amusing going to PASS and the MVP summit this year and people coming up to me asking how my baby was. Well thats not so amusing, how they know I‘ve got a baby is. During the last 24hrs of PASS my wife was overdue having our 3rd child, she had gone out and so I was on alert if the phone rang. Guess what it rang half way through my presentation on reporting services tips and tricks, luckily it wasn’t my wife but we did have the baby the next day. That was close. • No 'Hardware' tab in audio and no profiles

  If I run the 12.x ubuntu (latest May 2012) from the CD, I get full audio settings, and sound playing in speaker. Profiles let me change analog to digital in/out. Once I run install from the same CD onto the laptop HD, once it boots the first time, after selecting audio settings, there is no 'Hardware' tab and no way to change profiles. Worst part is the audio device is set to SPDIF so nothing comes out of the speakers. Very off how booting off the CD I can get analog audio, and installing to HD and booting seems to limit the profile to something useless. Laptop is a 5 year old Dell D820 with Nvidea 128meg video on a 1920x1200 screen and T7200 CPU. I suspect if I could get the damn HARDWARE tab back in audio settings, I could just select the proper Analog profile - just as is the case if running from a boot CD. Searched the web, no similar problems found... any help appreciated!

• Installing MoinMoin -wiki to my user directory on a server with no root access

  Hello all, I've been trying to install MoinMoin -wiki on this webserver, where I have no root access. The server doesn't support wsgi, but it does support cgi/fcgi/etc. I've scoured google for a simple guide on how to accomplish this, but the only guides I found were from the year 2004 or so. Other guides always assumed that one has root access. So can anyone link a good tutorial for my question or just help me out here? Your help is appreciated :) P.S. • Is it good to buy multiple domains for competitive reasons?

  I am attempting to convince the higher ups at my company that spending $55 to renew one domain for a year is bad when they end up having 3-4 domains names for one website. They're reasoning for doing so is to keep these domains names out of the hands of the competition. For example, the company name is Pie Consulting & Engineering. They want to buy up pieforensicconsulting.com to keep it out of the hands of a competitor (we also do forensic engineering). Could a competitor use that domain in any kind of diabolical way? I mean I figure if someone is typing in pieforensiconsulting into the url field, they know what they're looking for and if it redirects to another company, they're not just going to stay on the site.
