• Not able to connect to game using "Game Ranger"

  Every time the game is about to start it says that I have lost my connection to EA's servers with the following message: Make sure your network adapter and network cable is plugged in. Although my connection works perfectly but when it comes to online gaming it messes up everything. My System specifications: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30GHz 4096MB RAM Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Internet connection of 2Mbps Can you help me to sort it out?

• RHEL 5 list missing critical patches/packages

  Im trying to figure out if there is an easy way to identify the missing critical patches/packages on my RHEL5 boxes. This is for audit purposes and was trying to figure out if there was an RPM command or something of the sort that would accomplish this easily. I know with my Solaris 10 boxes, i can run the "smpatch analyze" command which would display this information for me. Anyone know of anything similar for RHEL5? Thanks.

• Computer Locked after period of time

  I have a Windows XP machine that locks itself after an unknown amount of time. I have disabled the screen saver completely, and unchecked "lock computer when coming out of standby". I've even overrode the settings with gpedit. Even still, it locks itself after a while, and it doesn't take long. If it's any sort of hint, the time period for the screensaver is greyed out, even if I choose an actual screensaver.

• Easy to use booking software?

  Looking for an easy to use B&B booking software that will allow the owner to schedule and rent rooms. It would ideally have a windows client (with cloud sync) and thinking mobile app for reminders and such. Calendar with automatic scheduling of some sort would be great too. Anyone heard of something along these lines? If not - any suggestions of API's or services that one could start with to roll their own solution?

• Terminal window opens when Xubunutu starts...?

  Whenever I start up my laptop with Xubuntu on it, a Terminal window opens and just sits in the taskbar - as though I opened it myself. Anyone know if there's some sort of list of applications which open at boot time. Maybe Terminal got on that list somehow?

• Store ESX5 images on a NAS?

  I have a basic NAS device (Buffallo LinkStation Duo) that can only present SMB fileshares to the network. For testing annd for getting a dying physical machine working I would like to store my VMDK on here. Is that possible, or will I have to find some way of presenting this as an iSCSI target of some sort? I've only used iSCSI or local storage in the past, but this isn't possible at the moment. • A way to extract layer sets from PSD files without Photoshop?

  Are there any tools for (in order of preference) Mac, Linux, or Windows to extract images per layer set from a PSD file, without using Photoshop? I had a web designer send me a PSD file containing multiple pages, and each page is apparently in a layer set, and GIMP cannot handle these--it can't understand layer groupings. a command line tool, a rinky-dink Windows tool...anything will work, so long as it's free (preferable) or under $30, does not leave watermarks or anything of the sort, and works well.

• Is it possible to buy one photoshop and use virtualization in a way that everyone can use it?

  Is it possible to install a main server and install some sort of virtualization technology, pay one price for software such as Photoshop and let everyone user it? Please explain to me why or why not If yes, please tell me what technologies are capable of doing that, and one would save costs by doing that. How will the performance be? • Apache: Limit the Number of Requests/Traffic per IP?

  I would like to only allow one IP to use up to, say 1GB, of traffic per day, and if that limit is exceeded, all requests from that IP are then dropped until the next day. However, a more simple solution where the connection is dropped after a certain amount of requests would suffice. Is there already some sort of module that can do this? Or perhaps I can achieve this through something like iptables? Thanks

• Pass command line arguments to Windows "Open With"

  I have a program that opens with a specific shortcut, but the shortcut seems to send parameters to the application. If I go directly to the target directory and double-click, it does not work. However, if I use the command line and pass in a certain argument, the application opens correctly. I want to open certain file types using the application, but the application must have the parameters, or it will not work. Is it possible to do this sort of thing?

• Google Apps or similar that supports shared inboxes?

However, the big roadblock for me is the lack of any sort of shared inbox support (sales@... support@...) that would let multiple salespeople or support reps handle the incoming messages to the shared inbox in a consistent, graceful manner. • Run a specific Windows application with different regional settings?

  We have an old VB6 application, written in the UK, which we want to run on a client's server in Canada. The application must have some hard-coded date formats in it somewhere, as it's misinterpreting dates, eg, 6th April is getting recorded as 4th June. I know I could change the user's date format, but this would affect all applications. Is it possible, perhaps with some sort of wrapper script, to set specific regional settings for this single application?

• Control iTunes from Spotlight (or similar)

  Is there some sort add on or program that lets me easily change (and choose) songs using keyboard shortcuts (or perhaps Spotlight)? The ideal program would add iTunes indexing to Spotlight and allow me to change songs by searching for them in Spotlight (but then not switch the focus to iTunes). I do believe that there was a plugin for Launchy on Windows to do a similar thing. Is such a program available?

• Is there a way to set the Powerpoint Slide Sorter Zoom above 100%?

  In the PowerPoint slider sorter view, is there a way to set the zoom level larger than 100%? On PowerPoint for Mac this slider goes to much higher values, essentially allowing zoom all the way in to a single slide, but on the Windows version (depending on screen resolution and slide dimensions) the maximum zoom is often several slides wide. Evidently it's possible to achieve a similar affect by changing the page size, but is there some sort of preferences hack that will change the maximum value of this slider?

  I'd like to use a programming model for custom graphics and precision placement, and an interactive visual mode for large scale layout and less precise placements. I've used tools (PostScript, various vector drawing programs) that do one of these modes well, but leave me pining for the other model. Which tools should I be investigating? I'm currently on OS X. Examples: Creating diagrams with precise spacing, sets of cards, either likely drawing from some sort of data.

• Format Change Event for Excel VBA

  I'm trying to prevent people from modifying (most) of my spreadsheet while still alowing them to use the sort function of the AutoFilter. What I've done so far is used the Worksheet_Change event and Application.Undo to automatically undo any values entered into cells that I don't want to be modified. This works great, except that it can't detect changes in formatting. Does anyone know of a means to trigger an event when the format (text/background color) of a cell is changed? Thanks!

  I was curious how companies such as Amazon would handle some sort of investigation that needed to look into data potentially stored on one of their on-demand nodes. What typically happens to data in an environment like this after the VM is destroyed (literally what happens on the disk / FS)? Would it actually be possible to recover data from a destroyed node? • How would I isolate one netowrked PC to LAN only?

  I would like to have one of my PCs available to the rest of my home network for file sharing and VNC access, but I want to block any Internet traffic going to and from the PC. In other words, I want all local PCs I have connected to the router functioning as any normal LAN would, but when it comes to the Internet I want one particular PC to be "safe" from the Internet. My guess is that this is some sort of port blocking or some other router function, but I'm not quite sure.

Can that be done?

• What kind of sorting does the Windows 7 login screen use for usernames?

  I’ve set up ten Windows 7 user accounts, so that I can test different versions of Google Chrome*. I’ve named the accounts “Chrome 01”, “Chrome 02”, and so on. Ideally, I’d like the accounts sorted on the login screen by Chrome version, which is why I added the leading zero to the version number (assuming it was an alphabetic sort). However, when I created the “Chrome 10” account, it ended up sorted between “Chrome 01” and “Chrome 02”. What is going on? *(Chrome installs are user-account-specific)
