  • How to save a remote server SSL certificate locally as a file

    I need to download an SSL certificate of a remote server (not HTTPS, but the SSL handshake should be the same as Google Chrome / IE / wget and curl all give certificate check fail errors) and add the certificate as trusted in my laptops Windows' certificate store since I am not able to get my IT guys to give me the CA cert. this is for office commnunicator so I cannot really use the actual client to get the cert. How do I do this, I have Windows 7 and a pile of Linuxes handy so any tool / scripting language is fine.

  • Sync, share and backup policy using NAS

    Trying to come up with a way to keep in sync while sharing and keeping a backup of my music/photos and movies. Currently I have an iMac in Greece and a MBP with me in the UK. As a result I've ended up with 2 iPhoto and iTunes libraries not to mention Documents scattered here and there, user settings etc. I also like to have a backup in case of a drive failure or the need to clean install. It seems that iPhoto and iTunes don't work really well with networked libraries. The way I think about it is to have a NAS where I keep my iTunes and iPhoto library but also rsync daily to my MBP to have a local copy. That way my files are shared across the network as well as act like a backup. In addition I get to have my files wherever I take my MBP but also have the ability to clean install. The tricky part comes from keeping in sync the iMac which is miles away. Again I'm considering a mirror setup (NAS, rsync to the iMac) as well as an rsync between the two NAS. It pretty much resembles the way Dropbox works, sans the requirement to go through their servers but I'm no "superuser" and don't really know if it is even feasible to have such a setup. Looks like there are so many things that can go wrong.

    I'm trying it on virtual box and installed Acronis 2010. The backup was successful but when I checked on the backup which is on my flash drive. Here's my problem: Ive installed firefox before the backup, but the program files folder in the flash drive has no folder called firefox. How do I restore the the 2 partitions using the backup. What I did was to: Go to tools & utilities in Acronis then chose clone disk. Selected the source and destination(flash drive). Then I restart, the backup began. First with the first partition which has xp installed and the 2nd was vista lite. What do I do to restore it: I only got these folders on the root of the flash drive: Documents and settings Program files Windows BOOTSECT.BAK

    Got 12.04 on an AMD+radeon machine, everything was running fine until last night when the update manager installed new packages, and now the moment I open a browser (firefox, chromium, anything) it crashes instantly. It says warning: at build/buildd/linux-3.5.0/arch/x86/kernel/smp.c:123 native_smp_send_reschedule+0x5b/0x60() Pid: 2432, comm: chrome_dbthread tainted: G D 3.5.0-2generic #2-ubuntu I already tried uninstalling the packages from the update log, didn't solve a thing. Depending of which browser I use I get a different reaction, like a complete freeze instead of a text console crash. Ideas? I really don't know what to do.

    I am not satisfied with what I learned in Java 101 in University. I feel like, lot of time is spent on trying to figure out how to write something in Java properly. I feel like, my lack of knowledge of Java and eclipse is slowing me down. I would like to pay for a detailed and intensive course in Java & Eclipse. I can read a book and read tutorials, but it seems harder to discipline myself. Where can I find such crash courses outside of university courses? I find lot of CS courses just show tip of the iceberg and not too much focused on actual application. I want to learn the latest industry skills and etc. I live in BC, Canada. I am thinking of BCIT, but not sure what they offer.

  • Can I use Server Monitor with a non-server Mac?

    I have a computer I use as a simple file and web server. I am simply desiring to be able to monitor load, traffic, memory usage, etc via Server Monitor. I have also downloaded an app for my iPhone which does the same thing, but it uses the same protocol that Server Monitor does. Is it possible to get Server Monitor to recognize my non-server box as a server so I can monitor this information? For reference, I am running 10.4.ll on this PPC box. Thanks in advance!

    Possible Duplicate: Dropbox fails to install, stuck at 99% I just installed Dropbox via Ubuntu Software Center, and the known crash of 99%, which was in Ubuntu Software center, happened. I want to remove Dropbox completely since something went wrong, but I can't. When I start my Ubuntu, it starts a process which eats up all of the CPU. In Ubuntu Software Center, there is a process "Searching Applying Changes", but nothing really happens. When I'm trying to uninstall Dropbox, nothing happens, since the seaching thing is "first". Please, I'm asking for a option which doesn't include proper reinstallation of Dropbox, only of getting rid of it, and without reinstalling the whole Ubuntu system (format, chaos etc).

  • How can I install the BlackBerry v5.0.0 component pack into Eclipse?

    I'm trying to install the latest v5.0.0 "beta 2" BlackBerry OS Component Pack into Eclipse 3.4.2 with BlackBerry Eclipse plugin v1.0.0.67, but have hit a few problems. Has anybody found an easy way to do this? I had no trouble installing the v4.5.0 and v4.7.0 Component Packs. It's rather strange that BlackBerry are shipping new phones with the v5.0.0 OS installed (e.g. a Storm 2 9550 and Bold 9700 that I just bought), and pushing that update to phones whilst the BlackBerry website still considers the v5.0.0 SDK / Component Packs to be "beta 2"! If anybody knows when an official non-beta Component Pack is going to be released that might solve my problem... In case it helps, the problems I've hit so far are: -Contrary to the implication on the BlackBerry website, the Eclipse "Software Update..." option for the v5.0.0 Component Pack claims it only works on the v1.0.0 Eclipse BlackBerry plugin, not the new v1.1 one. -I then tried to install the v5.0.0 Component Pack through the "Software Updates..." menu in Eclipse using the v1.0.0 Eclipse BlackBery plugin. Once I'd done the 200MB download the install failed with a "Invalid zip file format" error. -I might just have been unlucky with a corrupted download but I did try it twice, once through "Software Updates..." and once by selecting "Archive" to install the downloaded Component Pack (which unlike v4.5.0 and v4.7.0 was a JAR, not a ZIP).

  • NullPointerException when installing the Android SDK on Mac OS X

    I'm installing the Android SDK on Mac OS X. Following the instructions on the Android Development site, I've downloaded the SDK and modified my .bash_profile to include the path. The next step is to use the Android SDK and AVD Manager to actually download the platforms. However, when I use the Manager to install the platforms, I get the following error in the Terminal. I've looked around for similar problems in the Eclipse and Android forums and haven't found anything yet. Is something else damaged in the environment and needs to be repaired?     I tried to answer the question from Mark: Keymap issues with NX from Mac OS X Lion to Ubuntu However, it is locked so I figured I would post a new question / answer. I have been trying to answer this for a few days now because I have no issues when connecting through NX Client (technically OpenNX) to FreeNX server from an iMac (with Lion), but if I try to connect with a Macbook Pro I get horrible keyboard binding issues. The fix that is working for me is to go into: ~/.nx/config/HOST.nxs and change: <option key="Current keyboard" value="false"/> <option key="Custom keyboard layout" value="empty"/> <option key="Grab keyboard" value="false"/> I have tried this on three NX Servers and all are fixed. Hope it helps or gets you closer.     I am adding functionality into my scripts so that they can use kerberos authentication to run automatically and use secure protocols when executing. I have my functionality working for shell scripts that do exactly what i want, however i am having issues porting it to perl to work within my perl scripts as i am new to perl.     I've successfully installed the latest version of PyDev in my Eclipse (3.5.1) under OS X 10.6.3, with python 2.6.1 I have troubles in making the libraries I have installed work. For example, I'm trying to use the cx_Oracle library, which is perfectly working if called from the python interpeter of from simple scripts made with some text editor.   • How can I open VLC via browser with PHP (Mac OS X)

    I'm trying to open VLC via browser and make it instantly play the given video file on Mac OS X. This runs on my local server and is only meant to run locally - therefore I already run apache (MAMP) with my username and with group "staff" (defined in httpd.conf). YES - I do know that VLC has http interface - however that is not what I need, so do not suggest that... My current system works without any problems when I run it via Terminal: php /var/www/Movies/index.php - This leads to VLC opening and video starts playing fullscreen like intented. Problems start when I run the same PHP-page with browser. Then the VLC-process starts, but there's no GUI for it, video file won't start playing and the VLC-process takes nearly 100% of CPU. Both; terminal and browser started VLC-processes run with the same user (mine) Both have "Parent process" bash VLC-process begun with Terminal has empty "Process group" (only process id-number) and browser started has "httpd" + (id-number) VLC-process started via browser makes 1000-times more "Mach System Calls" than it's Terminal-started counterpart.   • Purge complete Python installation on OS X

    I’m working on a recently-upgraded OS X Snow Leopard and MacPorts and I’m running into problems at every corner. The first problem is the sheer number of installed Python versions: altogether, there are four: 2.5, 2.6 and 3.0 in /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework 2.6 in /opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/ (MacPorts installation) So there are at least two useless/redundant versions: 2.5 and the redundant 2.6. Additionally, the pre-installed Python is giving me severe problems because some of the pre-installed libraries (in particular, scipy, numpy and matplotlib) don’t work properly. I am sorely tempted to purge the complete /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework path, as well as the MacPorts Python installation. After that, I’ll start from a clean slate by installing a properly configured Python, e.g. that from Enthought. Am I running headlong into trouble? Or is this a sane undertaking? (In particular, I need a working Python in the next few days and if I end up with a non-working Python this would be a catastrophe of medium proportions. On the other hand, some features I need from matplotlib aren’t working now.)
