• Form Encoding Problems on GRAILS 2.0

  I have an Grails application that is configured everywhere to function as UTF-8. While running a debug version, headers say Content-Type:text/html;charset=utf-8, and meta tags agree. Browser identified page as UTF-8 and shows characters correctly. When posting a form, the browser correctly sends it encoded as UTF-8. When reading the data via params.paramname, however, the data looks garbled; maçã becomes maçã. Upon further inspection, it seems the form is sending UTF-8 data, but Grails seem to try and read it as if it was ISO-8859-1. Setting accept-charset="ISO-8859-1" on the form confirms this problem, as it fixes the problem. I also have this on applicationContext.xml: <bean id="characterEncodingFilter" class="org.springframework.web.filter.CharacterEncodingFilter"> <property name="encoding"> <value>utf-8</value> </property> <property name="forceEncoding"> <value>true</value> </property> </bean> Is there an solution for this besides adding accept-charset="ISO-8859-1" to all forms in the application?   Hi, I am using simple date format to allow users to specify which time zone they are sending data in: DateFormat df = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss,z"); This works fine: e.g. df.parse("2009-05-16 11:07:41,GMT"); However, if someone is always sending time in London time (i.e. taking into account daylight savings), what would be the approriate time zone String to add? e.g. this doesnt work: df.parse("2009-05-16 11:07:41,Europe/London"); Thanks.

• Where to define a filter function for a form field in my Joomla component's preferences

  I am creating a component in Joomla 2.5. This component has some options that are defined in its config.xml, so they can be set in the preferences of the component. Now I would like to apply a filter to one of these option fields, using the attribute filter="my_filter". In the source code of JForm I saw the following lines at the very end of the implementation of JForm::filterField(): if (strpos($filter, '::') !== false && is_callable(explode('::', $filter))) { $return = call_user_func(explode('::', $filter), $value); } elseif (function_exists($filter)) { $return = call_user_func($filter, $value); } That's what I needed for using a filter function defined by myself! I managed to do this for form fields used in the views of my component. I defined the filter function as MyComponentHelper::my_filter(), where MyComponentHelper is a helper class which I always load in the very base of my component. And in the form's xml I added filter="MyComponentHelper::my_filter" to the fields that have to be filtered. However... when I am trying to apply the filter function to a form field in my component's preferences, I am not in my own component, but in com_config instead, so my helper class is not available! So, therefore, my question: where to define my own filter function in such a way that it can be found and called by JForm::filterField() in com_config?? Help is very much appreciated.

  Hello SO, I'm experimenting with validating forms in the asp.net MVC framework. I'm focusing on server side validation for the time being. I've come across an error that I'm not sure how to rectify. System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. • Rewriting a simple Pygame 2D drawing function in C++

  I have a 2D list of vectors (say 20x20 / 400 points) and I am drawing these points on a screen like so: for row in grid: for point in row: pygame.draw.circle(window, white, (particle.x, particle.y), 2, 0) pygame.display.flip() #redraw the screen This works perfectly, however it's much slower then I expected. I want to rewrite this in C++ and hopefully learn some stuff (I am doing a unit on C++ atm, so it'll help) on the way. What's the easiest way to approach this? I have looked at Direct X, and have so far followed a bunch of tutorials and have drawn some rudimentary triangles. However I can't find a simple (draw point).

  Hi, This seems to be a recurring problem to me. I want to get started doing wcf services. I create a new Wcf Service Library, compile it, and publish it using FTP to my providers webhotel. But its not working. I somehow cant get access. I dont want some fancy security model - i just want to get a hole through to my simple webservice. Seems that its the part when i publish it to my webhotel (in a subdomain) that breaks the webservice - its working perfectly when starting it locally. How to proceed anyone?

• Add class to textbox when invalid, using .Net Validators

  I'm working on a multipage form in .Net using AJAX (UpdatePanels). I am stuck right now trying to get a class added to the textbox that is invalid to basically highlight it red. For some reason this code does not ever fire in Firefox. I've looked up the DOMAttrModified event and it sounds like this should work in Firefox, hence it being in the code. I must be missing something though because it does not work. I'm open to other solutions for what I am trying to accomplish here if anyone has something good. Basically the form is 3 pages right now. Page 1 has a variable number of fields that require validation. It could be 5, or 13 fields, based on a checkbox. Page 2 has another set of fields that need to be validated separately. Obviously when I am on page 1 it should not try to validate page 2, and vice versa. Pleas help with either some help to fix the code I have, or an alternative.

• How to design this simple database?

  I have 2 tables - one storing user information (id, username, password) and the second one storing information about events (id, name, description, date, username(represents the user who created the event)). I would like to implement 'favourite events' functionality. This would allow the user to store his favourite events and later display them in a list. I am not sure how to implement this in terms of design. I need a simple solution. Something like storing the IDs of favourite events in a field in the user table. I am using mysql and php. Can anyone point me to the right direction?

  an ActiveX control generated by Visual Basic 6, very old stuff, it has a couple of methods and one event. now I have to use the control in C++, visual studio 2008, but I don't like to generate a form/dialog/window as constainer. I add some MFC class From ActiveX Control. Now the wrap class has all the methods defined in the ActiveX control. I definitely need add event handler to take care of the event fired by ActiveX control. With a form/dialgue/window, it could be done by below BEGIN_EVENTSINK_MAP ON_EVENT. My questions are 1. how to add the event handler without a form/dialgue/window. Is this impossible? 2. Could I manually add constructor in the ActiveX control wrap class, so I could use new operator to get an instance on the heap? The container's class name is used again in the AFX_EVENTSINK_MAP macro and the ON_EVENT macro.

• Error occurs while validating form input using jQuery in Firebug

  I have written a custom validation code in jQuery, which is working fine. I have a login form which has two fields, i.e. userid and password. I have written a custom code for client side validation for these fields. This code is working fine and gives me proper error messages as per the situation.   Suppose a program is running with elevated privileges already, and it needs to see the contents of the System Volume Information folder, and by default, only NT Authority\System can do that. A workaround would be to change ACL's on the folder, but I don't want to mess with that. I already found two ways to do it: the task scheduler and psexec. They are too indirect, I don't even need to describe the first one, and the second one works by installing a windows service, running it, telling it to run whatever I wanted to run, then uninstalling the service. Now the question is: is there a direct, simple WinAPI function to run something as system? I don't think that such an API would circumvent the security restrictions, as an administrator I have the right to schedule a task or install a service, so there must be a shortcut.

But also the main page does a POST (using JQuery) to the Results Controller for updates using this route: [MyDomain....]/Main/Update along with a data bag. This works fine when I only have the "Default" route. But when I added the other "Results" route, all the POST calls to update are failing. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong??? Thanks a lot.

  Hello, I am writing website and i`d like to implement profile managment. Basic thing would be to edit some of user details by themself, like first and last name etc. Now, i had to extend User model to add my own stuff, and email address. I am having troubles with displaying form. Example will describe better what i would like achieve. This is mine extended user model. class UserExtended(models.Model): user = models.ForeignKey(User, unique=True) kod_pocztowy = models.CharField(max_length=6,blank=True) email = models.EmailField() This is how my form looks like. class UserCreationFormExtended(UserCreationForm): def __init__(self, *args, **kwargs): super(UserCreationFormExtended, self).__init__(*args, **kwargs) self.fields['email'].required = True self.fields['first_name'].required = False self.fields['last_name'].required = False class Meta: model = User fields = ('username', 'first_name', 'last_name', 'email') It works fine when registering, as i need allow users to put username and email but when it goes to editing profile it displays too many fields. I would not like them to be able to edit username and email. How could i disable fields in form? Thanks for help.

  I'm looking for very simple encrypt and decrypt functionality for some data. It's not mission critical. I need something to keep honest people honest, but something a little stronger than ROT13 or Base64. I'd prefer something that is already included in the .Net framework 2.0 so I don't have to worry about any external dependencies. Pre-emptive EDIT: I really don't want to have to mess around with public/private keys, etc. I don't know much about encryption, but I do enough to know that anything I wrote would be less than worthless...in fact, I'd probably screw up the math and make it trivial to crack.

• Reference to the Main Form whilst trying to Serialize objects in C#

  I have a button on my main form which calls a method to serialize some objects to disk. So that means that somewhere in the objects I'm trying to save there must be a reference to the main form. The only possible references I can see are 3 delegates which all point to methods in the main form code. Do delegates get serialized as well? I can't seem to apply the [NonSerialized] attribute to them. Is there anything else I might be missing? Even better, is there a quick method to find the reference(s) that are causing the problem?

  Hi, I'm coding simple game which I plan to make multiplayer (over the network) as my university project. I'm considering two scenarios for client-server communication: The physics (they're trivial! I should call it "collision tests" in fact :) ) are processed on server machine only. Therefore the communication looks like Client1->Server: Pressed "UP" Server->Clients: here you go, Client1 position is now [X,Y] Client2->Server: Pressed "fire" Server->Clients: Client1 hit Client2, make Client2 disappear! server receives the event and broadcasts it to all the other clients. Client1->Server: Pressed "UP" Server->Clients: Client1 pressed "UP", recalculate his position!! [Client1 receives this one as well!] Which one is better? Or maybe none of them? :)

• Writing a simple webservice in C# and calling it from Ruby on Rails

  I need to create a simple webservice in C# but I'm not sure where to start (I've coded UI apps in C# before but all my web experience is in Ruby on Rails). Where do I start? The only client for the webservice will be a Ruby on Rails app so there's no need for any HTML rendering. I was thinking of just returning a XML or YAML formatted string unless there's an easier way. I'm not too keen on SOAP but if it's easy/natural in C# & Ruby then I'd consider it (or anything else).

• C++ networking simple send and receive

  I'm trying to link 10 computers together, the program i would like to write would have one 'control' computer. From what I've looked up this computer would take all the packets sent over the network and do a echo with them... right? The other computers would need to be able to send information (then echoed to the others) to the 'control' ... is there a easy! or simple way to do this? From what I've seen i want a non-blocking socket? I have looked into sockets and such but for an armature programmer like me, this seems like a daunting task :) I'm kind-of looking for an easy class implication that has a send() and an event driven recv(). I'm not going to be sending that much information over the network.
