    Friends, I have these tables: Contestant Table: Winner Peter Group Table: Id Name Score Union 1 Bryan 3 77 2 Mary 1 20 3 Peter 5 77 4 Joseph 2 25 5 John 6 77 I want to give additional score of 5 to Peter on Group Table. So, I came up with this query. UPDATE Group SET Score = Score+5 FROM Contestant, Group WHERE Contestant.Winner = Group.Name Now, I want also to give additional score of 5 to the same Union as Peter which is 77. How can I integrate it as one query to my existing query?

    I have legacy system where all date fields are maintained in YMD format. Example: 20101123 this is date: 11/23/2010 I'm looking for most optimal way to convert from number to date field. Here is what I came up with: declare @ymd int set @ymd = 20101122 select @ymd, convert(datetime, cast(@ymd as varchar(100)), 112) This is pretty good solution but I'm wandering if someone has better way doing it

    Hi. The idea was to create a message box that stores my user name, message, and post datetime into the database as messages are sent. Soon came to realise, what if the user changed his name? So I decided to use the user id (icn) to identify the message poster instead. However, my chunk of codes keep giving me the same error. Says that there are no rows in the dataset ds2. I've tried my Query on my SQL and it works perfectly so I really really need help to spot the error in my chunk of codes here.     I saw an interesting post sometime back but with no solution. Trying luck here: There is a table which contain 10 names (U1, U2, U3..and so on). I have to choose 5 names everyday, and display one as the Editor and 4 as Contributors While selecting the random names, I have to also consider that if one user is selected as Editor, he cannot become editor again till everyone got their chance. TableA has a clustered primary key ID1, ID2 & ID3 and TableB has p.k. ID1 I need to create a table that has the missing records in TableA based on TableB The select query I am trying to create should give the following output C1 P1 S4 To do this, I have the following SQL query SELECT DISTINCT TableA.ID1, TableA.ID2, TableB.ID1 FROM TableA a, TableB b WHERE TableB.ID1 NOT IN ( SELECT DISTINCT [ID3] FROM TableA aa WHERE a.ID1 == aa.ID1 AND a.ID2 == aa.ID2 ) Though this query works, it performs poorly and my final TableA may have upto 1M records. is there a way to rewrite this more efficiently.     Hi, I'm getting this error when trying to restore an SSAS database from a backup: The ddl2:MemberKeysUnique element at line 63, column 4862 (namespace http://schemas.microsoft.com/analysisservices/2003/engine/2) cannot appear under Load/ObjectDefinition/Dimension/Hierarchies/Hierarchy. Google hasn't turned up any helpful solutions. (a lot of people found that installing SP2 made the error go away but this has always previously worked in our environment) I don't really understand what the error means. Can somebody interpret or suggest a fix? Thanks, Phil

    i have a parent report and it contains a two sub report. * subreport: item which get all fields from store procedure named spGetReportItem. like ItemName ItemQuantity TotalItemCost ab 4 45 dd 6 98 *subreport: Labour which get all fields from store procedure named spGetReportLabour. like labourName labourQuantity TotalLabourCost ab 44 455 dd 63 986 i want to find the total of totalitemcost and total of totallabourcost and then want grandtotal of totalitemcost and totallabourcost. i have seen many examples on internet in which shared variable is used in the formula bt the problem is that they have used the table but i m fetching data from stored procedure. so how can i access the stored procedure fields for calculation. like i have seen that many have used: shared numbervar total:=sum({tablename.ColumnName}); but i have used stored procedure instead of table so how could i find total of field that resultset returns from stored procedure.. plz give me answer as soon as possible.. i need it urgently. thanks..

    The requirement says: stored procedure meant to search data, based on 5 identifiers. If there is an exact match return ONLY the exact match, if not but there is an exact match on the not null parameters return ONLY these results, otherwise return any match on any 4 not null parameters... and so on My (simplified) code looks like: create procedure xxxSearch @a nvarchar(80), @b nvarchar(80)... as begin select whatever from MyTable t where ((@a is null and t.a is null) or (@a = t.a)) and ((@b is null and t.b is null) or (@b = t.b))... if @@ROWCOUNT = 0 begin select whatever from MyTable t where ((@a is null) or (@a = t.a)) and ((@b is null) or (@b = t.b))... if @@ROWCOUNT = 0 begin ... end end end As a result there can be more sets of results selected, the first ones empty and I only need the last one. I know that it is easy to get the only the last result set on the application side, but all our stored procedure calls go through a framework that expects the significant results in the first table and I'm not eager to change it and test all the existing SPs. Is there a way to return only the last select results from a stored procedure? Is there a better way to do this task ?
