• Windows server 2008 r2 console stuck at "waiting for user profile service"

  Hi, I have a windows 2008 R2 server, running on dell poweredge t300. Using hyper-v to run a windows 2008 R2 server also. Suddenly, today, my virtual console (on the virtual copy of windows 2008 server r2) will not let me login as administrator. It starts to login but then sticks at the message: Please wait for the User profile Service and is unresponsive to keypresses (incl ctrl-alt-del). The only way out is a crash. It starts up in safe mode without networking ok but not in safe mode with networking. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be appreciated Thanks

• HTTP/1.1 503 Service Unavailable Exchange 2003 OWA

  Receiving HTTP/1.1 503 Service Unavailable when trying to access exchange web access. Server 2003 & Exchange 2003 Have tried: Deleting virtual directories and rebuilding them in IIS Restarting Dismounting & mounting the public folder store & mailbox store It's not AppPoolQueueLength Restarting all services (all proper ones are running) Making it use ssl or not (regular http) -- same thing for both Installing IIS & exchange 2003 on a new 2003 box as a new FE server, OWA on that gets same error. Not sure why it's getting a 503... was working without an issue and randomly is stuck at this no matter what; ll users can still successfully connect and use via outlook, only the web access is having issues. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

• I need a server or service that reroutes DNS requests

  We have two external servers, Dev and Prod. We are a software house and in the code we have a subdomain metrics.company.com that points to Prod. Development is continuous and our internal and external developers and testers will need to switch from Dev to Prod and back again. It is not an option to have a different sub domain in the code during development and change this for production. The way we wish to switch between Dev and Prod is to use DNS. We need a public DNS server that behaves normally apart from routing metrics.company.com to Dev. The users will be able to swap their DNS back and forward to hit the different servers. What is the easiest way to do this? Is there a company that hosts this service or am I going to have to rent a server and set it up myself? Any help would be much appreciated.

• Protecting Windows SMTP service against the spam

  Hi, I'm trying to use a Windows SMTP service on Windows Server 2008, but I can't understand how to secure it. Basically, if I open firewall for local network IPs only for %windir%\system32\inetsrv\inetinfo.exe and keep Connection and Relay settings of SMTP Virtual Server to "All except the list below" (with an empty list), a few minutes later I see spam appearing in Queue directory. (Why? Isn't firewall intended to block this?) Now, if I set Connection or Relay to "Only the list below", specifying the range of local IPs, I can't use the SMTP server nevermore (a "Unable to read data from the transport connection: net_io_connectionclosed." exception is thrown). So what is the way to get rid of spam from internet but let send mails from local network?

• Squid: problem with FTP service (Windows Server)

  I followed the instructions on this question and everythig works fine. I have an DHCP server that assigns "IP client" without gateway. Internet with IE or Firefox Browser works but FTP service doesn't work. In squid.conf I have put a line: acl Safe_ports port 80 21 443 389 5307 8080 3144 8282 88 8443 20443 11438 1443 8050 30021 10443 4747 4774 1384 Have I to put gateway in DHCP Server? Have you any suggestion for me? Thanks for your help!

• Reboot loop after Windows XP Service Pack 3 update

  Recently I upgraded to Service Pack 3, and now it seems that something has gone terribly wrong with the update. After logging in, my computer will blue screen after about 5 minutes and then go into a reboot loop (I don't have the exact error message handy). I have a Sager NP2092 notebook, running an Intel chipset. I'd rather avoid having to reformat my XP, especially with my copy of Windows 7 arriving right around the corner. After doing some Googling, I came across this article: Does your AMD-based computer boot after installing XP SP3? However, it deals with the AMD chips, and specifically states not to use its fix on Intel based systems. EDIT After killing the reboot, this is the error that pops up: STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x00000003, 0x8A187118, 0x8A18728C, 0x80604438) EDIT2 I have run Memtest86, and it reported 0 errors.

  Hii All, I would like to insatll windows 2003 server on my desktop machine which already has Windows XP service Pack 2 installed . I dont want to overwrite XP but i want to have a option to select XP or Windows 2003 server while booting . I am not sure how to go about this , am afraid if i insert Win 2003 cd and start installing directly it may overwrite XP :( . My HD is 350 GB n RAM is 2 GB with 8 partitions . • Server memory issues, and expected level of service from hosting company

  I'm involved in maintaining an Ubuntu VPS which runs our django websites (nginx/apache/mod_wsgi) and we've been having some memory spikes which have either caused the database to die, or induced kernel panic when the memory management system can't find any killable processes. I'm working on fixing the memory spikes, but I'm wondering whether there's anything I can do to better deal with the problem if it occurs again. Are there any tools I could use to detect the memory spikes and then, say, kill the offending process and email the server admin to fix it up? Killing off one website so that the server can remain operational is certainly preferable to the whole thing falling over. Also, we were charged $600 for after-hours service because we had to get the hosting company to restart the server - is this standard practice among hosting companies? Another provider I work with provides a panel with which I can stop and start the server myself, and given that a restart was all that was needed, $600 seems mightily excessive. (That's NZD, it's around $445 USD)

  I've got a legacy application that needs an smtp server to relay emails. Each client has various control over their IT infrastructures (from little to none at all), so I can't necessarily install an smtp server on each of their machines. Can anyone recommend a basic SMTP Relay Service? Its literally only for sending a couple of emails a day to a list of about 20 users per client. The application only allows for the smtp server and to/from addresses to be specified. I'm assuming its using the default port. Thanks!

I have a question: VPNBOOK user and pass used to connect to their vpn network are publicily available on their homepage; everybody uses them to connect to the vpn. Can a user intercept my wifi traffic and: Understand that my connections are directed to VPNBOOK servers. If point 1 is successful, then they could use VPNBOOK public user and pass to decrypt my traffic? I hope I am missing something, otherwise it would be a very big weakness and I would revert to a paid service (with a private account)

  Iam trying to install one version of mysql in a LINUX machine. The system contain already another version of mysql installation. I prefer manual installation. Copy the exctracted tarball into a location and create symbolic link to that. I wish to install my mysql version without affecting already installed mysql version in the system. I created mysqld as service. But It couldn't start. When Iam trying to start this mysqld process, it shows an error like: Starting MySQL............................................................ ......................................... ERROR! The server quit without updating PID file (/var/lib/mysql/Test.pid). Please help me, is any wrong with my installation??? What I'd like to do is to monitor the email sent by the application. For this I need a dummy SMTP server which intercepts messages but won't send them further but save them locally on the hard disk. I've already found some of them like Papercut, SMTP4Dev. The problem with these that I have to be logged on the server all the time which is not suitable because the server has only 2+1 TS connections. I like to run a program like these as a windows service and check the mails when I need them.

  I am building a business where I want the infrastructure to be able to handle up to 30000 emails per minute during peak periods. The question is what kinds of services offer this? I expect to download the emails using SMTP or similar. I expect each email to have a total attachment size of 2 mb, and might have several attachments. I have considered utilizing Parse API from SendGrid, but I am worried because they offer this service for free. I have contacted them and I am waiting for answer. Are there any better and more suitable alternatives?

  I have a MOSS Box, with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 SP2 (Danish server), .net 3.5 SP1 on a Server 2008 64 bit (where IIS is running 64 bit too). When I fire up the BizTalk installer and wants to select the SharePoint Web Service, this option is disabled/grayed out. Any ideas as how I can enable the option again? (It states that there are one or more prerequisites missing but I can't figure out which). I found some reference stating that I basically had to "toast" the MOSS box and install WSS 3, but that is NOT an option... Any suggestions? :o)

• Windows 2003 - RAS service - VPN client can only connect to server, not internal network

  Here is my diagram http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/263/vpnt.png/ Server has two NIC: One connect to Internet, one connect to internal network. RAS service is configured with static IP pool on the same subnet of internal network (10.10.0.x). The problem is when a client connect to server, client can connect to server(10.10.0.10), but cannot connect to another host locate in internal network (10.10.0.11) even cannot ping to 10.10.0.50. RAS configured with IP routing enabled, client connect with options: Use default gateway on remote network. I'm messed up and can not figure out what wrong. Please help me T_T. TIA, giobuon

We're being asked by a customer to enter into an agreement regarding technical support for a software application that we're selling. Basically, I'm interested in the typical turn-around time (i.e. time to respond, time to resolution) based on the severity of the issue. • Proxy service likes Apache Http

  Currently I try to simulate my app as distributed servers, so I let them run on localhost:9000 and localhost:9001, i tried using apache load balancer but it is really hard to config on mac, my idea is the second server localhost:9001 will be kept ideal and the requests only be redirected to them when the first server is downed. Is there any good free program can do that ? (except Apache httpd). Extra functions: my application is written in java and maintain an in-memory object, is there any service that can synchronize that object between 2 servers so they can keep uptodate status of other (the second one takes state of the first one)? Is there any app can support that? Thank you very much.

  Hi all, Problem description: -I'm running Windows Server 2003 and I'm trying to install the FTP service following this procedure: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/323384 -At step 7 of the above procedure I provide Windows Small Business Server 2003 disc1 and the installation completes successfully (note: the installer looks for 'ftpctrs2.dll' but the disk contains 'FTPCTRS2.DL_' and seems happy with it as per allowed file types). -However the installation silently fails because if I go back to the list of windows components, FTP is still unchecked, and if I open IIS, the FTP sites section is missing. Question: -How can I force the installation of FTP? Additional info: I don't think this is related but will mention it in case I'm wrong and it is: before I could attempt to install FTP I ran into, and fixed, the issue described in this solution: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/838860 Thanks.

  I have a VMWare Player running a VM at all times. However I want the server to run that Virtual Machine on boot (without logging in). This will allow me basically to restart the Server and when it loads to the login screen it's already running VMWare. Any ideas? I have tried reading up on it however websites suggest VMWare Server. This is no longer backed by VMWare anymore. So I am looking to either make VMWare Player a service or if anyone else has any other ideas? Running Win 7 on my server btw Thanks for looking.

  Hi All, I bought a brand new Dell Studio 1558 just last week. It has windows 7 home premium 64-bit installed on it. My friend who is occupying the adjacent room has a laptop with windows XP. Both of us are connecting to the same wireless router of the hotel. My friend is able to connect to the wireless network without any trouble, but when I try to connect, I get the error "DNS service isn't responding". I met two more people in the same hotel with win XP laptop and they too dont have any problem. I have gone to possibly all the forums and website but I haven't been able to fix this error :(. I have done all the basic troubleshooting but I have no luck yet. Pls help.   I remember there was a tech-net or WindowsITpro article about how to harden windows 2003 service accounts a couple of years ago. For backup software purposes (such as BackupExec / AppAsure / Etc.. , please don't bash these) I have to create a domain admin account (usually called something such as "backup") and have the services run from that account. In this article I remember you can create the domain admin user "Backup" however have it not able to login interactively. Do any of you remember such an article or have the knowledge on how to do it?

• Windows audio service fails to automatically start after VirtualBox install

  I'm having a completely nonsensical issue in Windows XP SP3. Basically my "Windows Audio" service no longer starts automatically. Despite being set to "Automatic" I have to manually go in and start it. This issue didn't start until the most recent update of VirtualBox, but I can't find anything on the forums related to this specific issue. I've tried reinstalling the RealTek drivers as well, in the event that that had something to do with it. Any assistance is most appreciated! EDIT 1: It is the host's audio that won't start. The update of Virtualbox was merely the "marker" of when these events started occurring. Given it's the only variable/change I'm assuming a correlation.

  Hi! I'm trying to create a 'left client' server < 'right client' setup but need some advice and tips. Let's say that I have a server-daemon on the left side, like a vnc-server that connects to the middle server. On the right side I've got a client that want to connect to the left server-daemon, but it has to be done through the middle server. I assume this should be done with some tunneling service. The server environment is a fully featured Debian Linux or Mac OS X Server host. Any idéas? Thanks / Trikks
