  • Can't connect to smtp (postfix, dovecot) after making a change and trying to change it back

    - by UberBrainChild
I am using postfix and dovecot along with zpanel and I tried enabling SSL and then turned it off as I did not have SSL configured yet and I realized it was a bit stupid at the time. I am using CentOS 6.4. I get the following error in the mail log. (I changed my host name to "myhostname" and my domain to "mydomain.com") Oct 20 01:49:06 myhostname postfix/smtpd[4714]: connect from mydomain.com[127.0.0.1] Oct 20 01:49:16 myhostname postfix/smtpd[4714]: fatal: no SASL authentication mechanisms Oct 20 01:49:17 myhostname postfix/master[4708]: warning: process /usr/libexec/postfix/smtpd pid 4714 exit status 1 Oct 20 01:49:17 amyhostname postfix/master[4708]: warning: /usr/libexec/postfix/smtpd: bad command startup -- throttling Reading on forums and similar questions I figured it was just a service that was not running or installed. However I can see that saslauthd is currently up and running on my system and restarting it does not help. Here is my postfix master.cf # # Postfix master process configuration file. • unwanted password prompt pops up on web server?

    - by Paul
my web server randomly asks for a password as though basic authentication is turned on. It's an IIS 7 web server and you have to specifically install basic authentication in the roles section. It isn't installed. The message that pops up is "Warning: This server is requesting that your username and password be sent in an insecure manner (basic authentication without a secure connection)" I cannot reproduce the problem but a number of customers have reported the problem and it only seems to appear to a small number of customers. It pops up when they visit the homepage, nothing is generated by the IIS logs to indicate a password box is being served (e.g. no 401 errors etc) Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks

  • Apache can't connect to LDAP server

    - by jldugger
I'm tying SVN to LDAPS by way of Apache. I've run openssl s_client --host $host --port 636 and received an SSL certificate, so it doesn't appear to be a firewall problem. I get the following warning: [Fri Apr 02 07:38:15 2010] [warn] [client <ip withheld>] [590] auth_ldap authenticate: user jldugger authentication failed; URI /internal-svn [LDAP: ldap_simple_bind_s() failed][Can't contact LDAP server] "Can't contact LDAP server" is somewhere between vague and wrong. I'm at a loss on how to continue debugging this. Ideas?

  • Very large log files in IIS 7.x

    - by Neal
Hello, I had a site stop working today and when I RDP'd into the server I saw a warning about low disk space. The first thing I checked was the inetpub folder where the log files are stored and sure enough it was huge, 40 GB huge. I do clean the files monthly but what is causing a day's worth of logging on a medium activity site (www.vbdotnetforums.com) to create 300-500 MB log files? I do have everything being logged so my SmarterStats software gives me the most info, but are there specific things I should/can turn off that is causing the most growth in these log files? Also, sure would be nice if Microsoft someday had some sort of log file management such as deleting log files after they exceed a certain size (total), X days, etc. We all have to come up with some solution to delete the old ones manually. Thanks Neal

  • What is the best way to prove a processor is overheating / running too hot?

    - by Cheesegraterr
Hello all! recently I noticed that my sister's laptop was getting very very hot when it sat on my lap, she had also complained that it just turned off on her without warning... so I decided to run Coretemp and Everest to test processor temperature.(It is an AMD Athlon X2... not sure what it runs at.) It seemed to idle around 75-80 Celsius and under 100% load it peaked at 115 ! I realize that laptops run a lot hotter than desktop but I think that is ridiculously hot...am I right? Anyway... Her laptop is still under warranty and I was wondering what is the best way to prove to future shop that it is running that hot. Should I give them a printout of a stress test or something like that? Or should I just bring it in to them and tell them what I think is wrong and let them test it. Thanks for the help!

  • C# Accessing controls from an outside class without "public"

    - by Kurt W
I know this has been asked before but I believe my situation is a bit different -- or I don't understand the answers given. I have spent about 4 hours working on this solidly and finally realized, I just don't know what to do. I have 2 Forms (Form1, Settings) and a class I created called Themes. I have get/set properties that currently work but are all within Form1 and I would like to move as much code related to themeing as I can OUTSIDE of Form1 and into Themes.cs. Changing Theme: To change the theme, the user opens up the Settings form and selects a theme from the dropdown menu and presses the 'Set' button -- this all works, but now I want to move it into my own class and I can't get the code to compile. Here is example code that works before moving -- note that this is only 2 different controls I want to modify but there are about 30 total. I am abridging the code: Form 1: public partial class Form1 : Form { public Form1() { InitializeComponent(); } private void btnSettings_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { Settings frm = new Settings(this); frm.Show(); } private Color txtRSSURLBGProperty; private Color txtRSSURLFGProperty; public Color TxtRSSURLBGProperty { get { return txtRSSURLBGProperty; } set { txtRSSURL.BackColor = value; } } public Color TxtRSSURLFGProperty { get { return txtRSSURLFGProperty; } set { txtRSSURL.ForeColor = value; } } Settings Form: public partial class Settings : Form { public Settings() { InitializeComponent(); } private Form1 rssReaderMain = null; public Settings(Form requestingForm) { rssReaderMain = requestingForm as Form1; InitializeComponent(); } private void button2_Click(object sender, EventArgs args) { // Appearence settings for DEFAULT THEME if (cbThemeSelect.SelectedIndex == 1) { this.rssReaderMain.TxtRSSURLBGProperty = Color.DarkSeaGreen; this.rssReaderMain.TxtRSSURLFGProperty = Color.White; [......about 25 more of these....] } The theme class is currently empty. Again, the goal is to move as much code into the themes class (specifically the get/set statements if at all possible!) and hopefully just use a method similar to this within the Settings form once the proper drowndown item is selected: SetTheme(Default); I hope someone can help, and I hope I explained it right! I have been racking my brain and I need to have this done fairly soon! Much thanks in advance as I'm sure everyone says. I have teamviewer or logmein if someone wants to remote in -- that is just as easy. I can also send my project as a zip if needed. Thanks so much, Kurt Modified code for review: Form1 form: public partial class Form1 : ThemeableForm { public Form1() { InitializeComponent(); } ThemeableForm form: internal abstract class ThemeableForm : Form { private Color rssLabelBGProperty; private Color rssLabelFGProperty; public Color RssLabelBGProperty { get { return rssLabelBGProperty; } set { lRSS.BackColor = value; } } public Color RssLabelFGProperty { get { return rssLabelFGProperty; } set { lRSS.ForeColor = value; } } Settings form: public Settings(ThemeableForm requestingForm) { rssReaderMain = requestingForm as ThemeableForm; InitializeComponent(); } private ThemeableForm rssReaderMain = null; private void button2_Click(object sender, EventArgs args) { // Appearence settings for DEFAULT THEME if (cbThemeSelect.SelectedIndex == 1) { this.rssReaderMain.LRSSBGProperty = Color.DarkSeaGreen; this.rssReaderMain.LRSSFGProperty = Color.White; } Now the all the controls in my get/set (lRSS in the example code above) error out with does not exist in the current context. I also get the warning: Warning 1The designer could not be shown for this file because none of the classes within it can be designed. The designer inspected the following classes in the file: Form1 --- The base class 'RSSReader_BKRF.ThemeableForm' could not be loaded. Ensure the assembly has been referenced and that all projects have been built. 0 0

  • Mount TMPFS instead of ro /dev

    - by schiggn
I am working on a ARM-Based embedded system with a custom Debian Linux based on kernel 2.6.31. In the final system, the Root file system is stored as squashfs on flash. Now, the folder /dev is created by udev, but since there is no hot plugging functionality needed and booting time is critical, I wanted to delete udev and "hard code" the /dev folder (read here, page 5). because i still need to change parameters of the devices (with ioctl /sysfs) this does not work for me in this case. so i thought of mounting a tmpfs on /dev and change the parameters there. is this possible? and how to do best? my approach would be: delete /dev from RFS create tar containing basic devices mount tmpfs /dev untar tar-file into /dev change parameters Could this work? Do you see any problems? I found out, that you can mount on top of already mounted mount point, is it somehow possible just to take data with while mounting the new file system? if so that would be very convenient! Thanks Update: I just tried that out, but I'm stuck at a certain point. I packed all my devices into devices.tar, packed it into /usr of my squashfs and added the following lines to mountkernfs.sh, which is executed right after INIT. #mount /dev on tmpfs echo -n "Mounting /dev on tmpfs..." mount -o size=5M,mode=0755 -t tmpfs tmpfs /dev mknod -m 600 /dev/console c 5 1 mknod -m 600 /dev/null c 1 3 echo "done." echo -n "Populating /dev..." tar -xf /usr/devices.tar -C /dev echo "done." This works fine on the version over NFS, if I place printf's in the code, I can see it executing, if I comment out the extracting part, its complaining about missing devices. It's telling me while booting that it is unable to open an initial console and its throwing errors on mounting the UBIFS devices, but finally provides a login anyway. Over that my echo's are not executed. If I then log in, /dev is mounted as TMPFS as desired and all the devices reside inside. When I redo the "mount" command to mount the UBIFS partitions it is executed whitout problem and useable. From squashfs VFS: Mounted root (squashfs filesystem) readonly on device 31:15. • is it worth defragging an iPod

    - by alimack
Essentially my 5G iPod was cutting tracks off and generally misbehaving. So I did the following: 1) Use Diskwarrior - heavy directory fragmentation which it fixed; 2) Use iDefrag - some fragmentation but it kept halting as it couldn't move files; 3) Try to write out drive with Disk Utility - got a warning from DU so gave up before I started; 4) Completely restored using iTunes; 5) Reran Diskwarrior - still heavy directory fragmentation; 6) Reran iDefrag, still fragmentation although limited to two bands; The iPod is much quicker to traverse menus and no more track skipping. My question is this - is defragging worth it or does the heat generated by the process kill the drive and make it a self-defeating process. Anyone have any metrics/ figures? Clearly it's a bad idea for solid state drives like the nano & touch.

  • Links won't open in Outlook

    - by Scott Mitchell
About a week ago Chrome (my default browser) stopped working and I ended up reinstalling. After that, however, links in Outlook 2007, when clicked, no longer open. Instead, I get a warning that reads: General failure. The URL was: URL. Application not found. I presume that there is some MIME or file type association that needs to be configured at the OS level, but I've not had any luck so far. My operating system is Windows 7. Any ideas? EDIT #1 Wayne Johnston suggested I set Chrome as my default browser, but when I go to the Set Default Programs screen in Windows 7 (via Control Panel) I do not see Chrome in the list of programs. How do I get it to show up there?

  • Opening Office 2007 files using a Vista or Win7 client on a server 2008 file share causes lockups an

    - by DrZaiusApeLord
I think this mostly happens when trying to open files opened by other users. In the XP/2003 days you would get some kind of warning about a locked/read only file. With 7/Vista/2008 I'm just seeing clients hang (Word just sits there) and if I go into the file share and attempt to right-click on the file, explorer hangs for several minutes. I tried disabling AV on the file server as well as locally. No luck. I've read that SMB2.0 might be the culprit here, but even testing that solution means disabling it on both the client and server, and requires a server reboot. Does this sound like an SMB2 issue? The server is 2008 SP1. The clients are Win7 vanilla and Vista SP2 with all the current updates. Office 2007 SP2 with all updates. Thanks.

  • how to fix asyncmac.sys infection

    - by Jay
AVG anti-virus tells me that there is a virus in my asyncmac.sys. I tried to overwrite it with a copy of asyncmac.sys from another computer (making sure that it was the same version of Windows XP, but I was still nervous that I was going to break something), but when I reboot, I get the same virus warning. If I try to delete the file Windows (or somebody) automatically and immediately puts it back. I get a blue-screen death if I try to boot in safe mode. I tried to do a system restore to before I had the virus, but it tells me that it can't restore because nothing has changed. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

  • How can I read this IIS error log?

  • How do I give MacPorts privileges?

    - by cojadate
I tried to install PostgreSQL server development libraries using MacPorts and got the following: Warning: MacPorts running without privileges. You may be unable to complete certain actions (e.g. install). ---> Computing dependencies for postgresql-server-devel ---> Dependencies to be installed: postgresql-devel ---> Building postgresql-devel Error: Target org.macports.build returned: shell command failed Error: The following dependencies failed to build: postgresql-devel Error: Status 1 encountered during processing. To report a bug, see <http://guide.macports.org/#project.tickets> So I guess that means I need to running MacPorts with privileges and try again. Unfortunately I've no idea how to give MacPorts privileges. I'm running OS X 10.6.3

  • Problem upgrading kernel on debian 3.1

    - by exhuma
Hi, I have a quite old box in a remote server farm. So I have no direct access. Only remote SSH (and via SSH to a serial console). I haven't updated this box in ages. Now, whenever I want to install a new package, a dependency to glibc appears. Unfortunately, the install of glibc depends on a 2.6 kernel and I am running a venerable 2.4 kernel (one more reason to upgrade). The problem is, that the install of a new kernel has an indirect (over locales) dependency to glibc. So, to install glibc, I need a new kernel. For a new kernel, I need to upgrade glibc. Essentially I am blocked. What's the best way to proceed considering I have no "hardware" access? Here's a quick transcript of the upgrade process: [green:~]% sudo aptitude install linux-image-686 Reading Package Lists... • How to Install PCRE Development Headers on Mac OSX

    - by martincarlin87
I just upgraded my MacBook Pro to Mavericks and my local Ruby on Rails development environment isn't running straight off the bat, when I visit localhost I see It works! and remembered I needed to start Phusion Passenger, so when I run passenger start it checks all the requisites and fails when it gets to the PCRE Development Headers: * Checking for PCRE development headers... Found: no It tells me to go to http://www.pcre.org/ to download them so I downloaded 8.33 from here which went to my Downloads folder, so I unzipped it, cd'd to the folder and ran: ./configure make make install Then cd'd back to my rails app directory on my Desktop and re-ran passenger start but it's still the same. Tried a new Terminal window but that didn't make any difference. I must have done this before to get my dev environment working but can't seem to solve it this time. I also tried brew install pcre but it says Warning: pcre-8.33 already installed.

  • Gentoo baselayout-2 problem with module parameters

    - by Alakdae
I recently switched to baselayout-2 on my Gentoo machine but I have one problem. I autoload a module bttv with paramater: card=77,77 The problem is that at boot the module is loaded without the parameter which makes the video feed useless. I cannot find the cause because the funny thing is that when I put an echo in /etc/init.d/modules to see what is passed to modprobe, this is what I got: szymanowicz ~ # /etc/init.d/modules restart * WARNING: you are stopping a boot service * Caching service dependencies ... [ ok ] * Loading module bttv ... bttv card=77,77 [ ok ] * Autoloaded 1 module(s) It indicates that everything is OK, but dmesg shows that at boot time there are no parameters. bttv0: using: *** UNKNOWN/GENERIC *** [card=0,autodetected] ... bttv1: using: *** UNKNOWN/GENERIC *** [card=0,autodetected] Whereas when I run it manually I get: bttv0: using: GrandTec Multi Capture Card (Bt878) [card=77,insmod option] ... bttv1: using: GrandTec Multi Capture Card (Bt878) [card=77,insmod option] Please help me because reloading the modules every time there is a reboot is very anoying (not many reboots, but I need to remember about the module)

  • Lexmark C532 error code won't go away

    - by Paul Phillips
I can't get rid of error code 84 - Yellow PC unit missing. I've just replaced all 4 photoconductors with genuine Lexmark parts and now the error code keeps appearing. I've swapped the PC units around so know it's not a faulty unit. I've followed the suggestions in the online Lexmark manuals and even called the Lexmark helpline but to no avail. any suggestions? Printer was fine until it gave me a PC unit life warning and I renewed them. Thanks.

  • Homebrew requires something uninstall-developer-folder removes

    - by Blacklight Shining
I was having trouble installing irssi (brew install irssi), so I ran brew doctor, which returned a warning mentioning an outdated copy of Xcode and saying I should run /Developer/Library/uninstall-developer-folder. Then I ran brew doctor again and got: Error: No such file or directory - /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.6.sdk How do I reinstall the SDK, or is there another way to get Homebrew working again? UPDATE: /Developer actually still exists (despite the obvious implication of uninstall-developer-folder), as does /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.7.sdk. Why does Homebrew specifically need Snow Leopard's SDK?

  • Jenkins shows same information for all projects

    - by SuperCabbage
I've been using Jenkins for the last month or so and what started out as a small issue has gotten worse and worse. I have 10 projects in Jenkins, all polling from different Git repos and building to different environments but they all show the same details on the dashboard. I can still build the projects, but I have to manually enter the URL to see any console output etc. I'm running 1.536 under Ubuntu 12.04, there's not much in the logs other than the following; Oct 22, 2013 2:21:19 PM WARNING jenkins.model.lazy.AbstractLazyLoadRunMap search JENKINS-15652 Assertion error #1: failing to load /data/builds #20 EXACT: lo=23,hi=9,size=23,size2=23 – Any ideas?
