  • Backup data rate on Raspberry Pi maxing out at 5 Mb/s. Why?

    I set up my Raspberry Pi as a Time Machine, as documented here. At the moment, the Raspberry Pi is connected to my MacBook Pro using a direct Ethernet cable. Also, an external hard drive (laptop drive) is connected to the Raspberry Pi using the USB port. However, backups are pretty slow. Activity Monitor claims that the Network is transferring a very steady 5 Mb/s, where my Time Capsule is transferring up to 8 Mb/s with a lot of fluctuation. The Raspberry Pi self-reports (top) that its CPU is only half-used, with about equal parts afpd, usb-storage and jbd2/sda1-8. Thus, I think that the processing power of the Raspberry Pi does not seem to be the problem here. To me, this looks like there is some kind of bottleneck that maxes out at 5 Mb/s thus potentially having my backups run at less than their potential speed. To the best of my knowledge, this might be the afp-daemon, the usb-bus or the external hard drive. So, my question is, how could I identify the true culprit and what can I do about it?

  • over Windows terminal change cursor width or color in Vim depending on mode

    I am using PuTTY to connect over SSH to an Ubuntu server from my Windows 7 workstation. Once connected I am using the Vim installation from the Ubuntu server to edit files. I want the cursor to change when I go into and out of insert mode. Part of my .vimrc file is like this but it is not changing the cursor: if &term =~ "xterm" echo "xTerm!!inate!" let &t_SI = "\<Esc>]12;purple\x7" let &t_EI = "\<Esc>]12;blue\x7" endif I know that the if statement is executing because of the echo. EDIT: Actually I would prefer to change the cursor to be a vertical line like you can in the PuTTY settings rather than change the color, or maybe even do both. But just changing the color would be a lot better than nothing. Also I am willing to change terminals if there is another Windows 7 Professionsal 64 bit compatible terminal that can do this (preferably something free). Maybe Poderosa can do this?

All mails sent to user "dev" are forwarded via a /home/dev/.forward file, with this sender : [email protected]. host.mydomain.fr is the hostname of this server, but it's an internal server and it does not even have a public IP.   • Rendering composite/SVideo input with GraphEdit (comp./svid. source for crossbar)?

    Does anyone know how to form a GraphEdit graph to render composite/SVideo input (especially for a Hauppauge or AIW card)? Google (and Google Images) finds only results focusing on rendering the TV tuner which is already simple enough. The tv-tuner-in pins connect to the TvTuner/TvAudio source, but nothing seems to be able to connect to the Composite/SVideo pins. I have looked through the filters and could find no sources to connect to the Composite/SVideo input pins of the crossbar; GraphEdit always complains that they are not compatible.

  • How to Eliminate Black Bars from Powerpoint videos ?

    Hi, I am running a digital signage system for my client. The basic installation is a vertically oriented 42" LCD TV with a 1920x1080 screen resolution (reverse of 1920x1080 when setup normally, i.e. landscaped). Please check out the following link for a basic screen divisions layout I want to setup. http://flickr.com/photos/55097319@N03/5410208856 In the division labeled "ppt" I plan to run a powerpoint presentation. The screen division is 360x1476 resolution. As there isn't an option in powerpoint to specify slide size in terms of resolution so according to this article on indezine http://indezine.com/products/powerpoint/books/perfectmedicalpres02.html to get a screen resolution of my preference I divided 360 and 1476 each by 72 which gives me 5"x 20.5" as the slide size for my ppt. After setting up slide size as per above dimensions, I used sizer (http://brianapps.net) to resize my ppt window to 360x1476 so that when I record I do not get any black bars. But after launching recording there are side black bars visible which camtasia records and brings-inside cam studio with black bars. http://www.flickr.com/photos/55097319@N03/5409597049 My question is that after doing the above and as explained in the following video link why do I still get black bars. http://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmith/topics/eliminate_black_bars_in_your_powerpoint_recordings Is there an option in camtasia to stretch the recording to cover up black bars or any other alternative way I can get rid of those black bars while I get a ppt recorded as per my preferred dimensions. I set up show in powerpoint to be "browsed by an individual(window)". Also signage software only supports swf's and video file formats natively and not ppt, pptx etc. Thanks bhavani.

  • Win8 Change A Password

    I have a non-domain machine that I use with our company's domain resources regularly. I upgraded to Windows 8, and the "Change a password" option went away from the Ctrl-Alt-Del window. Can't seem to google anything about this subject, or find a way to access that password change dialog. I tried running the .reg file from http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/63014-ctrl-alt-del-screen-add-remove-change-password.html with no luck. I also tried to Disable "Remove Change Password" via gpedit.msc. I could do it from my domain laptop, but I like to do it on this machine because it updates all my saved copies of those credentials. My local account is tied to my hotmail account if that matters.

  • ffmpeg video4linux2 at specified resolution

    When I'm trying to record a clip from my webcam, using: ffmpeg -f video4linux2 -s 640x480 -i /dev/video0 /tmp/spam.avi I get annoying problem with very low resolution video, and there is a message from ffmpeg saying: [video4linux2,v4l2 @ 0x2bff3e0] The V4L2 driver changed the video from 800x600 to 176x144 I have tried not specifying -s, or trying other sizes like 800x600, and always it forces me back to 176x144. Why is this and how can I prevent it?   • HP Rapid Deployment - Change Data Store Path

    I am running HP Rapid Deployment (Altiris eXpress Deployment Server 6.9 - Build 164) on an inherited Windows Server 2003 SP2. I need to change the Data Store Path as the default is pointing to the C: drive and there is not enough space there. I would like to set it to the D: drive where there is plenty of space. Reading the documentation: Data store path: Specifies the path to stored packages and files and other DS functions (such as license verification). The default path is C:\Program files\Altiris\express\Deployment Server. Note: Do not use this setting to change the path to the Deployment Share. Modifying this setting does not automatically allow you to use another shared directory other than the express share. To change the Deployment Share shared directory, run a Custom install to establish another location for the Deployment Share. Is there any other way I can change the path as I do not have the install media?

  • User not able to change permissions on folder in network share for Windows Server 2003

    I have a user that has rights to change permissions within a certain folder on a Windows Server 2003 network share. Although I grant this person the rights to change permission and ownership this person cannot change any permissions. The network share is also set to allow everyone full control. (I understand it is bad practice yet this is how it was first configured) Is there any reason why this domain user cannot modify permissions on the folder and files they create?

I would like to record some tasks in a program (i want to make a video where i will be explaining how to use a particular program) and i haven't found a good software to do it yet... I have just tested camStudio but when i hit the Record Button the computer starts working very slowly (even when recording in a small area... so i wouldn't imagine how slow it will run if recording full screen).     I can't visualize in my mind the network traffic flow. eg. If there are 15 pc's in a LAN. When packet goes from router to local LAN, do it passes all the computers? Means did it goes to ehernet card of every computer and those computers accept the packet based on their physical address. To which pc the packet will go first? To the nearest to the router? What happen if that first pc captures that packet(though it is not for it)? What happens when a pc broadcast a message? Do it have to generate 14 packets for all the pc's or only one packet reach to all pc's? If it is one packet and captured by first pc, how other pc's can get that? I can't imagine how this traffic is exactly flows? May be my analogy is completely wrong. Can anybody explain me this? Thanks in advance.

    I have 30 colleagues who are answering questions over 3 time periods. Each has their own Excel workbook with the questions, and over the year they update it. I collate their worksheets into one master worksheet, but now need to combine their answers into a simple table. The questions, the time periods and then a COUNT of how many answered it. For example: I need a table that shows me how many people (not the persons name at this point) answered question 10 in time period 2. I can't use a database before someone mentions it ;). For example, I have cells with single letters and no matter what the letter is I want that cell to contain the word Member. More Info: I get spreadsheets that contain, up to 40,000 rows. Column B will have names in the cells. Every once in a while a column will just have an initial instead of a full name. I'm looking for a way to change every single cell containing only one single character to the word "Member." The cells that need to change could be any letter but no matter what that letter is, if it's just a single letter in a cell, it needs to change to the word "Member."

  • Rolling desktop recorder?

    I want a piece of software that will constantly record what I'm doing on my desktop, discarding footage that's over [30] seconds old. Its recording would be a rolling one. The idea is that I can somehow hit a button and see "what just happened". I don't want to have to babysit it. That is, I don't want a piece of software designed for screencasting (which I'm not trying to do). My bias against that is based on my (maybe incorrect?) assumption that I'd regularly have to start/stop the recording throughout the day. The idea is that this piece of software would consume fewer resources (than a screencast recorder) on my box, as it's only keeping a very limited amount of footage in memory (and low quality would even be acceptable), because it's discarding frames fairly quickly after they're captured. Where can I find a piece of software with features like this?

  • Print Screen key of Windows on Mac

    I've tried Win 7 on my MacBook. then I'm facing a problem of capturing the screen . I want to take the screen shot of the whole screen(including the cursor) . I'm sure that I can grab it with the key "Print Screen" . but I don't found any key for it on my Mac. also though Windows Snippet tools can take the whole screen, I've to use the cursor .. Thus, any solution that can help out my problem will be appreciated.
