• Windows Power State change event notification in Qt

  Hi Geeks, I developing a GUI in QT where I have to show the battery status icon. To get the system power status, I am using the windows API. But to show status anytime , do i need to use a thread to continuously read and display the power status? I am thinking of using event handler. But not sure how to implement. I am thinking that for just one status icon I will run a thread. Anybody has any better suggestion, please share.

• Dynamically adding UserControl to list in ASP.NET

  I have UserControl, which is used for editing fields of some object. I had a page with this control, where user filled the fields, pressed "Submit" and object inserted in DB. And everything was Ok. But now user wants to insert several objects by one submit. So I need to implement dynamic adding of this control. What is the simpliest way to do it? The only way I see is to specify "+" button and to create control in its OnClick handler. But it is very dull. I think it is very common issue and there are better variants.

  I am querying an API using SimpleXML which will occasionally fail for reasons unknown. I would like to have the script retry up to 5 times. How can I do this? I assume it has something to do with wrapping the object in a try/catch, but I'm not very experienced with this -- have tried to read the manual on exception handling but am still at a loss. • Keypress event on inserted span (jQuery)

  Hi, I've been researching for a long time, and haven't found a possible solution. The problem I have is that I'm trying to attach an event handler to an span element just inserted. So basically the problem is, when a user performs a particular action that I set (clicking a button by example) I call this function: function AppendSpan() { $('#mydiv').append('<span id="someid" contenteditable="true">Some TExt</span>'); //Then I want to handle the keypress event on the inserted span $('#someid').keypress(function(event){//Do something here}); } The problem is that the keypress event is never triggered on the inserted span, I tried with the click event and it works fine, but not the keypress or keydown,keyup events. I also tried with $('span').live("keypress",function(event){//Do something}); but didn't work. Any suggestions would be appreciated, I need this to work only in FF, so no support for IE required.

• Will a Response.Redirect exception go to global.asax?

  I'm aware that when you call Response.Redirect it fires a ThreadAbortException. A co-worker has demonstrated calling response.redirect and then it goes to the global.asax. For the life of me I cannot get the ThreadAbortException to go to the global.asax, its like it is being suppressed naturally in the system. The reason I'm asking this is we believe the response.redirect is the cause of some automated error emails, but I'm not convinced this is the case especially if I can't even get it to debug into the global.asax. Any Ideas why I can't get the Response.Redirect to fire the global error handler?

• Does an HttpHandler require an aspnet_isapi.dll mapping

  Hi, If I configure (via web.config) an httphandler to handle all .gif requests for a specific folder, is it absolutely essential for me to map .gif requests to aspnet_isapi.dll in IIS? Is there any other way of ensuring that the .gif http request will be handled by aspnet_isapi.dll? I have a server configured where the virtual dir that contained the .gif-aspnet_isapi.dll mapping has been deleted, but the .gif requests are still being passed to the handler. Anyone know how this might be being done, and where the setting might be lurking? Thanks

When you'r adding a list of items, I do something like: var template = new Template("<li id='list#{id}'>#{value}</li>"); var arrayTemplate = []; arrayOfItem.each(function(item, index){ arrayTemplate.push(template.evaluate( id : index, value : item)) }); after this two options add the list via "update" or "insert" ----- $("elementToUpdate").update("<ul>" + arrayTemplate.join("") + "</ul">); the question is how can I add the event handler without repeat the process of read the array, this is because if you try add a Event before the update or insert you will get an Error because the element isn't still on the DOM. so what I'm doing by now is after insert or update: arrayOfItem.each(function(item, index){ $("list" + index).observe("click", function(){ alert("I see the world"); }) }); so the question is exist a better way to doing this??????

MessageBox(g_hMainhWnd, buffer, "Oops!", MB_OK | MB_ICONERROR); ShellExecute(0, "open", "http://intranet/crash_handler.php", NULL, "", SW_SHOWNORMAL); For a little context, this code is called inside our own exception handler, which was registered with SetUnhandledExceptionFilter() Most of the time, I see the message box, and then it launches a web browser. However, I have an exe, which as far as I'm aware uses this exact code, and it successfully launches the web browser, but I do not see the message box first. Thanks Tim

• Resolving Assemblies, the fuzzy way

  Here's the setup: A pure DotNET class library is loaded by an unmanaged desktop application. The Class Library acts as a plugin. This plugin loads little baby plugins of its own (all DotNET Class Libraries), and it does so by reading the dll into memory as a byte-stream, then Assembly asm = Assembly.Load(COFF_Image); The problem arises when those little baby plugins have references to other dlls. Since they are loaded via the memory rather than directly from the disk, the framework often cannot find these referenced assemblies and is thus incapable of loading them. I can add an AssemblyResolver handler to my project and I can see these referenced assemblies drop past. I have a reasonably good idea about where to find these referenced assemblies on the disk, but how can I make sure that the Assmebly I load is the correct one? In short, how do I reliably go from the System.ResolveEventArgs.Name field to a dll file path, presuming I have a list of all the folders where this dll could be hiding)?

• QGraphicsItem doesn't receive mouse hover events

  I have a class derived from QGraphicsView, which contains QGraphicsItem-derived elements. I want these elements to change color whenever the mouse cursor hovers over them, so I implemented hoverEnterEvent (and hoverLeaveEvent): void MyGraphicsItem::hoverEnterEvent(QGraphicsSceneHoverEvent* event) { update (boundingRect()); } However, this event handler code is never executed. • Using $.getJSON to perform cross domain request problem.

  I'm using the following code to make cross domain request using $.getJSON, request completed but with errors, I cannot exactly detect what is the thrown error. • NoClassDefFoundError with new eclipse bundle

  I am informed by a customer that they are receiving an error. On the report they filed it is continuosly coming up with NoClassDefFoundError. It appears none of my other customers are having this issue. I'm not having this issue running the app on my Motorola Droid Maxx. The customer is running the app on a rooted Droid Bionic. Everything was working fine on my version at 2.3 but when I updated it to 2.4, this issue arose. I also replaced my computer with a new and now I am running windows 8 and installed the adt bundle. The only change I made to the file in question in changing a -90 to -85. Below is the code...I have also included below the code the error report. • ListView slow performance

  I've created a list of recipes using Listview/customcursoradapter. A custom layout includes a photo for the recipe , Now I've some problems with the performance of viewing and scrolling the Listview although it has only 10 records (Target is 150). sometimes i get this error java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: bitmap size exceeds VM budget , I've tried to implement the Async task but i failed to do it. Is there any way i can overcome this problem? Your help is highly appreciated !! • .NET TreeView causes application to crash when trying to check Parent node

  I have a TreeView with check boxes, and when a user checks a child node, I want to go up the tree and check each parent. However, for some reason my application blows up whenever I touch the parent node. For the nodes in my tree, I've extended TreeNode to create my own objects with some data that I need to store in them, but I still reference them as TreeNodes when checking/unchecking. • Does javascript event handling occur inside or outside the program flow?

  This question is related to Javascript event handling and flow control, but it is one step beyond. The question that remains unanswered is: when an event is fired and control is returned to the browser, could the browser decide to handle other events first (fired by other scripts or user action) (A), or will it always handle my event directly (B)? The question is important, because in case (B) you can rely on the fact that nothing has been changed between firing the event and the event handler, while (A) gives no guarantees whatsoever. My first guess is (B), how else could stopPropagation() and preventDefault() work? But giving it a second thought, it is no hard evidence.

• Manipulating individual rows of a datagrid

  Hey, recently I started working on a webpage that has a datagrid. I understand how to add datasources and that sort of thing, or at least I am starting to get it. But my question is about manipulating individual rows or cells. Is that only possible during the databind event handler, that is the only place I have been able to do it so far. I am sure there is a more abstract way of doing the things I want to do, but there are times where I just want to say Datagrid.add(row). I mean, if the datagrid is made up of a certain object type, can I make a new object of that type and just chuck it on the end? I am still new to this stuff, so perhaps what I want to do would defeat the purpose of this added abstraction, but figured I would ask around. Thanks for any advice, tips, or tricks people feel like sharing. Edit: for clarification I am using c#, entity framework, asp.net, and an SQL database.

• Problem with events and ParseControl

  I'm adding a control (linkbutton) dynamically using ParseControl and it's fine except when I specify an event handler. If I use: Dim c As Control = ParseControl("<asp:LinkButton id=""btnHide"" runat=""server"" text=""Hide"" OnClick="btnHide_Click" />") it correctly adds the control to the page but the click event doesn't fire. If instead I find the control in the controls collection and manually wire up the event it works fine. I've tried loading in both Page_Init and Page_Load and it's the same thing either way. Any ideas?

The html for the control is done in the RenderControls of the code, the control devrives from WebControl, IScriptControl, INamingContainer. The button is coded as follow in the RenderControls: System.Web.UI.WebControls.ImageButton img = new System.Web.UI.WebControls.ImageButton(); img.ImageUrl = "Url of the image"; img.Click += new ImageClickEventHandler(img_Click); img.ID = this.ClientID + "_img"; img.CausesValidation = false; imgLock.RenderControl(output); The button apreas in the browser but when i click on it, the page postsback but the event handler for the button doesn't get fired, from what i can figure out, since the control goes throught RenderControls eachtime the page is posted back, the button gets redrawn and the event handling disapears. This server control is in a master page. Anyone can help me on this? Thanks

• Should I be using assert in my PHP code?

  A co-worker has added the assert command a few times within our libraries in places where I would have used an if statement and thrown an exception. (I had never even heard of assert before this.) Here is an example of how he used it: assert('isset($this->records); /* Records must be set before this is called. */'); I would have done: if ( ! isset($this->records) { throw new Exception('Records must be set before this is called'); } From reading the PHP docs on assert, it looks like it's recommended that make sure assert is active and add a handler before using assert. I can't find a place where he's done this. So, my question is, is using assert a good idea given the above and should I be using it more often instead of if's and exceptions?

• Showing ImageView next to TextView in a ListView

  So I have a listview that is displaying correctly. When the item is "turned on" the text is white and when it's turned off it's grey. That part all functions great. However when I add the ImageView into the mix I get a null pointer exception. I don't understand why. I've tried using bitmaps as well and get the same problem. • Why do my WPF UIElements NOT have OnPreview events?

  I'm building a custom Silverlight UserControl which needs to listen to events using Preview/Tunneling, but for some reason the compiler is telling me they are not recognized or accessible. For example, I can add an event handler to MouseLeftButtonDown, but not PreviewMouseLeftButtonDown. This doesn't make sense because according to Microsoft (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.uielement_members(v=VS.100).aspx) all UIElements should have Preview events attached. Any ideas as to why this is happening? I'm using Visual Studio 2010 Trial, Blend 4 RC and .Net 4, if that makes a difference.

• Is there a browser-agnostic way to detect client-side script errors with Watin?

  We're using WatiN to test our web portals. During the course of an E2E test, we'll occasionally see client-side script errors on the IE status bar. I'd like to chain a handler onto the script error event and record the error for later analysis and bug filing. Problem is, I don't know that there's a global script error event or how to chain into it. And if there's not a browser-agnostic way to accomplish this, I can create MyIE and MyFF subclasses but then this becomes two browser-specific questions. In essence, I'm thinking of something like this entirely made-up call: browser.ScriptEngine.SetCustomErrorHandler(LogScriptingError); ... where LogScriptErrors is my code that does the obvious. Many of our client-side scripting errors don't necessarily prevent the test from continuing (a pretty UI element didn't animate, for example, but the underlying form is still submittable), so I'd like to log the error and forge ahead in most cases.
