• Connecting a print/file server with no wired access

  We currently have a printer server which also serves as a file server. The server is located on premise however is not close to any wired access point i.e. a patch panel or point. The server also requires access to the Internet as it transmits files across. We have a wireless modem and a wireless router. I can run a cable between the server and wireless router. How can I have the wireless router communicate with the wireless modem? If the operating system of the server is concerned, it is running Windows Server 2003.

  Is it possible to create a script/live distro that replaces some system32 files? To explain it a bit more in details: There is a company that has multiple computers (think in 100/1000's) and they all are missing the same system32 files since the company's software removed it. The systems are distributed all over the world and are managed by "normal" people who don't have any knowledge about computers. I want to create a usb stick that i can mail to all those people which contains a script that executes when you boot the usb. this script should replace the missing system32 files without any user input is this possible, and if so how could i manage this?

  Does anyone know of a place where you can create your own handwritten font for free? I used to use http://www.yourfonts.com/, but now they want money. Is there some sort of free, downloadable tool to do this? BTW: There are some online programs that allow the user to create a font using a mouse. (See this question). Very cool. But, I want something that can take a scan and turn it into a font file. Any ideas?

  I have read many other posts but cannot figure this out. eth0 is my external connected to a Comcast modem. The server has internet access with no issues. eth1 is internal and running DHCP for the clients. I have DHCP working just fine, all my clients can get an IP and ping the server but they cannot access the internet.   Hi Linux Admins I set up a small shared hosting that contains some sites. For each site, there is a user. I mean, for abcd.com, I created abcd.com user and put htdocs for web hosting. I have no idea on how to prevent abcd.com from accessing xyzd.com's data. I have chmoded by changing 0 to others permission, which makes access defined by Apache when I view it with browser. • Lost support for Web Access on Verizon BlackBerry World Edition

  Hello all, I believe that some silliness has occurred with my blackberry after a OS upgrade. I have 2010 Blackberry world edition phone, purchased off a friend who went iPhone, that at first worked with web on the Verizon network. When i connected it to my PC to transfer contacts, it prompted for an OS upgrade, which I performed. Post-Upgrade I have found that i can no longer access any of the web services: eg. AppWorld, Email, Twitter, Browser. And they all state that i need to upgrade my account to gain access. I had a Storm previous to this that worked fine, and at the VZ store they told me this device is no longer supported (new in 2010 though), and they got me a free "upgrade" to the Blackberry flip. What i could use help with is finding a source stating it is discontinued or a guide that will help me re-enable the web features. I can provide further info later if needed (currently at work with the flip, the WorldEdition is at home).

• Windows VPN - NO internet access

  I host a network of servers behind a Fortigate 200a firewall in the DC. I connect to those servers via a VPN connection. The problem is that when i connect to the VPN, I lose my internet connection on the local PC (windows 7). I would like to be connected to the VPN and still surf the web. i guess this means to only forward a range of ip to the VPN connection. I've read other answers on serverfault, talking about "un-check the 'Use default gateway on remote network' option in your Windows 7 PPTP network connection settings". When i do that , i get internet access but no access to the servers in the VPN. Any idea how to get both working? Should i change something on the fortigate 200a config? Do i need two networks cards? Is there a place in windows to define ip range for the vpn connection?

  This is sort of a two-pronged question. I am developing an application that will need to be able to create network shares in Windows Server 2003 via the command line. So, firstly, how do I create shares in Windows via the command line? I tried researching it, and all I was able to find is that I should be using net, but other than that, there isn't much documentation. Also, in this share there will be a few directories with the names of users on the domain, and I would like for the directories to not be readable or writable by anyone else. For example, say I have two directories: jsmith and jdoe. I would like the user jsmith to write and read from the directory jsmith, but not the directory called jdoe, and vice versa.

  I'm a programmer at my organization, but somehow got drafted into looking into some server stuff so forgive me of my ignorance: They want to give our sales people secure access to our internal sites using their iPads. This must be secure (obviously) but also revocable from the company's side (if someone quits they can no longer access our network). I see from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1288 that the iPad supports "RSA SecurID", "CRYPTOCard", and "Kerberos" authentication methods. Will one of these do what we need? I am home for winter break and have limited internet access but would like to learn ASP using C#. Am I able to do development for ASP (and see the results) for free on my laptop (with no internet access), and if so what tools do I need? Ideally I'd like to do development in Visual Studio and see the results in my browser via localhost. Extra tools I might need would be helpful as well.

• Can't access internet even though everything is working

  A friend recently upgraded to a new cable internet connection. The modem connects to the router and various PCs and smartphones from her roommates connect to the router. They don't have any problem accessing the internet. She has Windows 8 and can't access any website (via wifi and ethernet). DNS (UDP) is working, DHCP set up everything correctly, Wifi is working, Trace routes and Pings (ICMP) go through with no problem at all. But neither Dropbox nor Skype nor Spotify nor any browser (all TCP) can access any website. The thing is though, she can connect through the university wifi and via a neighbors wifi. It's just her home connection. No firewalls are running and the computer is clean - no malware. How could it be that only her home connection won't work and others do?

• Slow performance with WAMP localhost access from other devices

  I setup a localhost WAMP server and other device can access my localhost site on my win8 laptop with computer name instead of IP (bc I have use DCIP so that the wireless router can assign me IP otherwise it will not work). However, problem is that the website (WordPress), access speed is extremely slow on other devices other than my localhost computer, usually a 3s task take at least 10 seconds. (i.e. view my localhost site with computer name in a phone within the same wireless network.) Is that normal? What could be the reason causing it? Thank You

  I'd like to include cookie data in an nginx access log like so: (simplified example) log_format foo '$remote_addr "$request" $cookie_bar'; access_log /var/log/nginx/access.log foo; This works great on requests that already have a cookie "bar", but for the first request to my server nginx will report "-" as the value of "bar". It seems like my problem is that nginx is looking at the request headers for the cookie value. Is there a way check for a Set-Cookie in the response and use that as a fallback?

  Some users on my network are having difficulties saving files, because the file is open elsewhere. Let's say Lemuel wants to edit a file, but Bernice in the next office over is working on it. Lemuel opens, edits, and tries to save, but then gets a "no write access" error. Bernice chortles with glee (since earlier that week Lemuel stole her sandwich). Unfortunately, various softwares will not warn the user that they have opened a read-only file. Is there a way (in Windows) to limit file access to ONE user only, i.e. 777 for the first user to open the file, and 000 for all users after that? (Sorry for the Linux terminology but it gets my point across).

The User will select cell A1, Click on Hallway 3(for example), then the user will click on cell A1 again and then select the Room #, 325 (for example). But I can't figure out how to add those settings to the group restricted, and add the visitors user account to that group.   I'm following this tuturial to setup key-based access to the SSH I created a user. I add copy the key to the client via ssh-copy-id <username>@<host> Becasuse ssh <username>@<host> still prompts for a password I run ssh-add on the local machine. The terminal doens't prompt for a password, I can login without using a password. But I cannot run su anymore. Every input for the password results in Authentication failure. I tried it again. But before coping the key, I added to the sudoer file. Copied key, ssh-add. But now I cannot login to my SSH shell att all? How can I setup a key-based SSH access with the possibiluty to use su or sudo?

• Cannot access Samba Share that is on Linux

  I have 3 virtual machines; Windows Server 2012, Windows 8, and CentOS Linux. The Server is configured with active domain. The CentOS VM has a Samba Share which has rights for the domain Administrator. Now, the Windows Server 2012 DC can successfully locate the share, but cannot access it (with Admin) ? Is it not possible for the Server to have access to it has Domain Client Admin, not Server Admin ? Hope this is clear? Thanks
