• Eclipse Execute from Home - Eclipse.org Version

  Due to a lot of minor errors with the eclipse from the repository( cannot install mylyn or pydev due to unmet dependencies) I manually downloaded from eclipse.org. I have not had this problem before but when I go to ~/eclipse (where I extracted the zip) and try to run eclipse it will not run. From the command line I just get eclipse not installed use sudo apt-get to install it. • Can't install kernel-uek-headers for currently running kernel

  I have just created a VM in VMWare and installed a minimal install of Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.3. # cat /etc/oracle-release Oracle Linux Server release 6.3 It is running with the UEK kernel. # uname -r 2.6.39-200.24.1.el6uek.x86_64 When I try and install VMWare Tools, I get the following error. • Problem resolving many of the Web Pages

  I am presently running Ubuntu 12.04 and using Chrome/Firefox along with OpenDNS (have tried Google Public DNS as well as DNS of my ISP). Suddenly, a lot of websites that I visit frequently don't load anymore. Some of them are imgur, yahoo, fed-sudoku, microsoft and addons page of firefox. I am sure there are many more that won't load. I have Windows 7 in Dual-Boot and there are no problems whatsoever in opening these pages on Windows. A little History: 2 weeks back I installed Ubuntu 12.10. I faced this issue right-away on Ubuntu 12.10. I thought something must have went wrong with the installation, so I removed Ubuntu 12.10 and instead installed Lubuntu 12.10 on it. But the same issue persisted on Lubuntu as well. So, I tried opening these webpages in Live Environments (of Ubuntu 12.10, Lubuntu 12.10 and Ubuntu 12.04.1) from USB. The issue was there for Ubuntu 12.10 and Lubuntu 12.10. However, I was able to access these webpages from Ubuntu 12.04.1. So, I installed 12.04.1 on my HardDisk. Everything on 12.04 was fine till yesterday; but suddenly, these sites don't load anymore. All this while, Windows 7 in Dual-Boot works flawlessly. Please help me resolve this issue.

• IUSR account and SCCM 2007 R3 agent

  I recently started working with SCCM and rolling the agent out with machine having IIS 7.x installed.  I ran into issues where the SCCM agent wouldn't install.  The errors mostly were 0x80004005 and 1603, another key one I found was Return Value 3 in the SCCM setup log.  During the troubleshooting, I found a cool utility called WMI Diag  WMI diag is a VBS script that reads the local WMI store and helps diagnose issue.  Anyone working with SMS or SCCM should keep this handy tool around.  The good thing my particular case WMI was healthy.  The issue turned out I changed the Anonymous Authentication module from using the IUSR account to inherit Application Pool identity.  Once we temporarily switched back to IUSR, installed the agent, then switched the setting back to inherit application pool identity, the SCCM agent installed with no issues. I'm not sure why switching back to the IUSR account solved my issue, if I find out I'll update the post.  More information on IIS 7 builtin accounts http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/140/understanding-built-in-user-and-group-accounts-in-iis-7 Specify an application pool identity  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc771170(WS.10).aspx SCCM resources (Config Mgr Setup  / Deployment forums) http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrsetup/threads http://www.myitforum.com (the best independent SCCM community resource) Hope this helps.   This problem is driving me nuts. CS0016: Could not write to output file 'c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework<64\vX.X.XXXX\Temporary ASP.NET Files\root\XXXXXX\XXXXXX\App_Web_XXXX.aspx.XXXXXXXX.XXXXXXXX.dll' -- 'The directory name is invalid. ' Tried to give full access to network service on C:\windows\temp and the temp folder in v4.0.xxx folder. Been searching hi and low online but no one has the right answer for this. Server is Windows Server 2008r2, SQL Server 2008r2 is installed on the same server. I believe that it could have something to do with SQL Server being installed after the .NET Framework 4.0 was installed, but I did a aspnet_regiis.exe -u and then -i to reinstall. Tried from both Framework folder and Framework64 folder, still no luck Anybody outthere with the same problem? Thanks in advance, Christian

But my real question is, are there technical considerations as well?   I'm running 12.04 - I installed kubuntu to try it out and realized that with all the bloatware applications that I didn't want it anymore - I was able to uninstall the kubuntu-desktop but there are still packages left over... How can I make sure I get rid of EVERYTHING Kubuntu installed - even the kde leftovers? • Uninstall Apache using make

  I installed httpd using make. But i cant find any remove/uninstall method in README or INSTALL files. Also, i searched the http://apache.org docs. There also there is no mention of uninstalling using make. Actually, i didnt pass the PREFIX value, and it got installed into /usr/local/apache/. Is it fine? • NuGet 1.1 Released

  This past weekend the ASP.NET team released NuGet 1.1.  Phil Haack recently blogged a bunch of details on the enhancements it brings, as well as how to update to it if you already have NuGet 1.0 installed.  It is definitely a nice update (my favorite improvement is that it no longer blocks the UI when downloading packages). • SQL Server 2008 R2 Installation and the Phantom of SQL Server 2005 Express

  Today I’ve happy started to install SQL Server 2008R2 on my development machine, which has this software installed Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard SQL Server 2008 SP1 CU5 Visual Studio 2008 SP1 BOL October 2009 AdventuresWorks2008 Databases SR4 Visual Studio 2010 RTM So, all the basic standard stuff. SQL Server 2008 R2 installation went smooth ‘till somewhere in the middle, where the rule engine checks that software pre-requisite are satisfied before starting to copy files. Here I had this @][@@[?!?! error: “The SQL Server 2005 Express Tools are installed. To continue, remove the SQL Server 2005 Express Tools.” Fun enough, I don’t have and I’ve never had SQL Server 2005 Express on my machine. Armed with patience I analyzed the install log here C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log\yyyymmdd_hhmmss\Detail.txt and I’ve found that the rule “Sql2005SsmsExpressFacet” is the one in charge of this check and it look for existance of the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\ShellSEM (on x86) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\ShellSEM (on x64) In my registry I’ve found that key existsing, due to the installation of the uber-cool Red-Gate SQL Search. I removed the registry key and here it is! SQL Server 2008 R2 is installing while I’m writing this post. A note to Microsoft: can you please add more detailed information on the setup while such error happens. Just saying “you have SQL Server 2005 Express installed” is not enough. Please show us what the rule look for and why it has failed directly in the Detailed Report, so that we don’t have to spend time to look for the needle in the logs. • Issues configuring CUPS print server for Ubuntu Server 9.10

  I have a 9.10 Ubuntu Server installed and I want to make it a print server and am trying to get access to the cups browser admin page from a windows client machine. I installed cups: sudo apt-get install cups then I edited the /etc/cups/cupsd.conf file and tried several different listen cominbations: Listen 192.168.1.109:631 #ip my router gives it3 Listen /var/run/cups/cups.sock #already in conf file Listen fileserver:631 #hostname of server Port 631 #listen for all incoming requests on 631? samba is also installed (which I think is necessary to share the printer out? and finally I added my user to the lpadmin group: sudo adduser tone lpadmin but when I try to navigate any of the following I get 403 forbidden http://fileserver:631/admin http://fileserver:631 http://192.168.1.109:631/admin http://192.168.1.109:631 What did I miss?

• Phpmyadmin Not Working

  I recently installed phpmyadmin onto ubuntu server 10.04 using sudo apt-get install phpmyadmin The installation went fine and everything was working including phpmyadmin. I then performed a restart of the server and now apache2 starts up but when I navigate to http://192.168.1.72/phpmyadmin/ I am getting a 403 error. • Where to find other versions of Opera browser as deb packages?

  I used Opera mainly for the Unite feature now to be abandoned. It is missing in v. 12. Some say its features will re-emerge in future extensions etc. Until then, Unite is still accessible in v. 11. Where do I get the v.11 deb? P.S. In fact it seems that opera unite (at least in its older form) is dying while I am editing this question. Access to opera-unite applications from within opera-unite is poor or absent. This issue is obscure to me for now (31.08.2012) because yesterday I have installed v12 in Windows OS (with opera-unite and basic applications - file sharing and media player - already installed) and it is still working (server is working). The v12 Ubuntu version came today without unite, and after installing v11 (which has unite) I could not get applications (file sharing, etc). But they are still available: here and after downloading these files which have te .ua extension, they can be installed by opening them with Opera (v.11) But as opera-unite is no longer supported, it is possible that the server that provides the file sharing etc will soon be unaccessible. Even if that is the case the question should maybe not be closed at it has a general usefulness independently of the unite issue.

• Cannot uninstall Office Live Add-in 1.4 after installing Office 2010

  Last night I upgraded to Office 2010 RTM from MSDN. I'm now trying to uninstall the Office Live Add-in that I used with Office 2007 as this functionality is built in to Office 2010. When I run the uninstall from control panel I get the following message: Microsoft Office Live Add-in cannot be installed because you do not have the right version of Microsoft Office installed on your computer Google has pointed to 2 solutions, both of which are pretty useless: Use the MS Windows Installer Cleanup - this is not good because all it does is remove the Installer entry from the registry, leaving all the installed files behind Uninstall Office 2010, uninstall Add-in, reinstall Office 2010 - that is just rediculous, but typical MS response So, can I get this off my system without resorting to option 2?

  hi i have an iphone 2g firmware 3.1.3 ifone is jailbroken have install0us and appcake on it. i have downloaded tunein radio version 1.4 from apptrckr. it installed fine but i cannot open it. i wuold click on it, it would start i mean for like 1 second, then just close. i dont know whats wrong with it. can some please help me. i have kill sb on it, which restarts the spring board. i tried turning it off n back on again. deleted and re-installed. deleted it and turnt ifone off and back on, then re-installed it. it doesn't seem 2 work at all. any one know what 2 do. mind it is a cracked app. thankz..!!

• How can I fix apt-get autoremove wanting to uninstall most of my packages?

  I did change my packages in synaptic from manually installed to Automatically (they were not manually installed but automatically). Now they are marked for Autoremove. I tested it with sudo apt-get autoremove and the result is shown below (a reduced version because its almost all packages). I remember last year I had same issue and solved it via Ubuntu forums but the forum is down and I cannot reach the post! • Can't find instructions how to use Windows 7 drivers on Windows Server 2008 R2

  Maybe I should post this to http://www.serverfault.com. Windows 7 comes with all sorts of signed drivers so there's high probability that all drivers for your machine will be installed during system setup. On the other hand Windows Server 2008 doesn't event though it's practically the same OS when it comes to drivers. But I know that this has a very good reason. It's a server product, not a desktop one. But the thing is that many power users and developers use server OS on their workstations which are normally desktop machines and would need Windows 7 driver spectrum... Question I know I've been reading about some trick on the internet that first installed Windows 7 on the machine, than do something to get either all Windows 7 driver collection or just those installed, and then install Windows Server 2008 and use those drivers. The thing is: I can't seem to find these instructions on the internet any more. If anybody knows where these are please provide the link for the rest of us.

• iPhone apps causing battery to drain out

  Hi, Recently my iPhone battery started to discharge in just one day. I do not use my iPhone much (less than 1 hour a day). and then while discussing it with couple of colleagues, I heard that there are some apps which even if installed on your iPhone can cause your battery to drain out faster. It does not matter if you are not using those apps, only having them installed was enough to cause battery drain. I have heard this from couple of my techie friends as well and thus had to put some credibility to it. Being an iPhone developer, I don't think that is possible. Do you think if this is possible for an app to cause battery drain just by being installed there on iPhone?

• How is the "change password at next logon" requirement supposed to work with RDP using Network Level Authentication?

  We have a Windows server (2008 R2) with the "Remote Desktop Services" feature installed and no Active Directory domain. Remote desktop is set up to "Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication (more secure)". This means that before the remote screen is displayed, the connection is authenticated in a "Windows Security: Enter your credentials" window. The only two role services installed on this server is the RD Session Host and Licensing. When the "User must change password at next logon" checkbox is selected in the properties for a local user on this server, the following displays on a client computer after attempting to connect using the credentials that were last valid: On some other servers using RDP for admin access (but without the Remote Desktop Services role installed), the behavior is different -- the session begins and the user is given a change password prompt on the remote screen. What do I need to do to replicate this behavior on the Remote Desktop Services server?

• Upgrade MySQL on Plesk on Windows

  I just got a nasty surprise when I installed a website in Unicode Hindi (Indian language) on a server, all freshly entered unicode data is turning into question marks on the server. On my dev machine it works perfectly. I found that I have MySQL version 5.0.45 (installed in default by Plesk I guess). On my dev machine i have version 5.1.33. I believe the problem could be due to the version difference. The new version of MySQL apparently has better support for Unicode than the older one. I want to upgrade MySQL on my Windows Server machine with Plesk installed on it I am reluctant to just install the new version using the mysql installer because Plesk maintains some custom settings for mysql and I am afraid the new version could change those settings and break my db. Can anyone tell me do I have to do anything special to install MySQL on plesk on windows or can I just use the new version installer?

I've installed PEAR on Debian Lenny using apt-get install php-pear, it was installed in /usr/share/php When I try to install anything using pear install <package> the PEAR folder is created under current user home directory and separate copy of pear is installed there. I ended up by installing local copy of PEAR for one of the users like this: http://kuziel.info/log/archives/2006/04/01/Installation-of-local-PEAR-repository Is any way to tell pear to install packages to system-wide repository in /usr/share/php? • UEFI/GPT Win 7 Load Failure in Dual Boot and no GRUB2 [Ubuntu 12.04]

  Configuration: MBB: ASRock X79 Extreme6 Win 7 installed on a INTEL 40GB SSD (GPT partitioned) Ubuntu 14.04 on a CORSAIR 30GB SSD (Ext4 and SWAP) I had Windows 7 installed previously in UEFI mode, using 3 partitions (GPT) and works fine if left alone. In UEFI BIOS settings I can see sometimes a "Windows Boot Manager" and other times (?) a "UEFI Intel" entry for INTEL HDD and Windows will boot properly selecting the one available at that time. I installed Ubuntu 14.04 after Win 7 w/o changing any UEFI BIOS settings and it works fine only if the BIOS is set w/ the Ubuntu partition as the first drive to boot, in AHCI mode. If both SSD drives are connected, the Win7 Intel boot drive can be chosen as first boot device but only as an "AHCI Intel drive" (No "Windows Boot Manager" nor "UEFI Intel device" options available in BIOS Boot menu) and Win7 will not load properly as long as the Ubuntu Crucial SSD is NOT PHYSICALLY DISCONNECTED. Windows will try, start booting for few seconds but will fail replacing Win7 logo and that startup animation with w/ the "old" white progress bar and then and will notify that there is a issue and prompt the user to try to Load Win 7 in Normal Mode again or try a Recovery Mode to fix it. If I let Windows INTEL HDD boot via BIOS/UEFI - Windows Boot manager selection, I may see the purple screen of Grub2 loaded for a while, but there's no selection for Ubuntu or Windows and/or then machine is not booting, showing a black screen and a small command prompt cursor blinking on top. So far the only option I see to have Ubuntu boot side by side w/ Win 7 is to reformat the Win7 SDD and set it boot in legacy BIOS mode with a MBR instead of GPT. Per my understanding this is a quite complex issue to fix (Rod Smith's answer was pretty helpful: UEFI boot on my Asus k52f) but any other suggestions are welcome. I find a bit odd that I can boot properly Windows7 SSD or an Ubuntu DVD using a DVD drive set in UEFI-BIOS in "AHCI mode" and w/ using "UEFI/Windows Boot Manager" booting option but I cannot boot a secondary SSD-HDD w/ Ubuntu having the same BIOS/UEFI Boot configuration. Looks like plugging the second SSD [the Ubuntu partition] is interfering with boot options in UEFI-BIOS.
