  • Watin from TeamCity not running as a Windows Service

    I'm trying to run Watin from within a TeamCity build, using nUnit. All tests run fine locally. I know you cannot run the full Watin tests (i.e. POST) from TeamCity if it is running as a Windows Service. You must start the build agent from a .bat file. But, I don't want to have to login to the server for it to start. I've tried getting a Scheduled Task (in Windows Server 2008) to fire the agent.bat file on StartUp (not Login), but with no luck. Has anyone else got Watin/TeamCity running from a Scheduled Task? Thanks, Pete

  • TDD and encapsulation priority conflict

    Hi, I just started practicing TDD in my projects. I'm developing a project now using php/zend/mysql and phpunit/dbunit for testing. I'm just a bit distracted on the idea of encapsulation and the test driven approach. My idea behind encapsulation is to hide access to several object functionalities. To make it more clear, private and protected functions are not directly testable(unless you will create a public function to call it). So I end up converting some private and protected functions to public functions just to be able to test them. I'm really violating the principles of encapsulation to give way to micro function testability. Is this the correct way of doing it?

  • Communicating between PHP and Java using ActiveMQ/Stomp

    Background I have two services that need to communicate with each other over a message queue. One is a legacy service written in PHP and the other is in Java. Sooner than later, the PHP service will be rewritten in Java. The current way they communicate with each other is to write to a shared database, which the other service polls. This is what I'm trying to get away from and replace with a message queue. Problem The communication I'm working on right now is from the PHP service to the Java service. It needs to send a relatively complex object (strings and and integers and lists and maps of strings and integers). Ideally, the solution would be workable in PHP and ideal in Java, as that's going to be the legacy of this project. Possible Solutions 1.

    Hi, i'm buidling a very simple email based website that users can, when registering list out all the stocktickers they're intersted in following. The program then on a daily basis goes and fetches that information and sends it out to every user. i have the portion which fetchs the information from the stock websites, but i'm looking for an "infrastructure" that allows: (a) a user to send an email to [email protected] with the subject "Subscribe" and with the body containing stockticker values, (b) user to send email to service@... with subject "unsubscribe" and body containing similar values. Looking for code in php please. Any insights?

  • Magento - Integrating Wordpress into Magento for the homepage

    I currently have a Magento store where I'm using a CMS page as the homepage. I want to integrate my wordpress blog (hosted on the same server) into this CMS page. It would show the latest blog post and preferably have the comment function available on the front page. The first thing I considered was using the Wordpress Loop on the Magento CMS page, but it doesn't seem like it allows PHP. One other thought I had was to create the homepage using modules or blocks. To be honest, I've never created a module or block so I'm not all that familiar with what is involved. The CMS page that I had created is simply an image slider/carousel (nivo-slider) and some photos with links. None of the content actually needs to be done with CMS, it just needs to be presented within my Magento theme/framework. All homepage updates will be handled by myself, so I can bypass the CMS system all together and just update modules if it turns out that the modules solution will allow me to have both the Wordpress blog and nivo-slider on the same page. Any thoughts?

    I'm using a twitter gem which basically accesses twitter and lets me grab tweets, timeline etc. Its really good but I have a lot of my code that uses the stuff it returns and I need to test it. The things the gem returns aren't exactly simple strings, there pretty complex objects (scary as well) so im left scratching my head. So basically I'm looking for an answer, book, blog, open-source project that can show me the rights and wrongs of testing around external services. answers that are either not language centric or ruby/rails centric would most greatly be appreciated.

  • Question How to integrate SQL Server Express with VS C# Express

    I have just installed VS C# Express 2008 which includes SQL Server Express 2008. It all went ok and I can see VS C# and SQL Server in the list of installed products. When I start VS C# it looks fine but in the DB Explorer / Data Conection context menu the option 'Create new SQL Server Database' is disabled. I have uninstalled all VS products and reinstalled but the problem remains. Do I need to do anything else? Can anyone help? Thanks

    Hi Does anyone know how to integrate several checkout badges into an order form? It might sound obvious to all (or most) but within the html wouldn't the form tag have an action to just one of the online merchants and not all? For example? I would like to have a basic order form which collects a users name, email, uploaded files, project details, and a few packages to choose from. Once they have selected the package most appropriate to them? They would be given a total cost and asked to pay via Paypal, Google Checkout OR Moneybookers. Can anyone help me out on this?   • ASP/NET MVC: Test Controllers w/Sessions? Mocking?

    I read some of the answers on here re: testing views and controllers, and mocking, but I still can't figure out how to test an ASP.NET MVC controller that reads and sets Session values (or any other context based variables.) How do I provide a (Session) context for my test methods? Is mocking the answer? Anybody have examples? Basically, I'd like to fake a session before I call the controller method and have the controller use that session. Any ideas?

  • Good way to capture/replay sessions from Apache Log?

    For performance testing, I would like to capture some traffic from a production server and use that as a basis to replay the request to a test server in order to simulate a realistic load in our development environment. These are all stateless queries, so no issues regarding cookies, sessions, etc. The Apache log timestamps everything down to a 1 second resolution, but that's not fine enough granularity for our peak times. What's the best way to capture more fine-grained timestamps for replay? And is there some ab-like load generating program that can use this data to replicate load?

    My current project uses NUnit for unit tests and to drive UATs written with Selenium. Developers normally run tests using ReSharper's test runner in VS.Net 2003 and our build box kicks them off via NAnt. We would like to run the UAT tests in parallel so that we can take advantage of Selenium Grid/RCs so that they will be able to run much faster. Does anyone have any thoughts on how this might be achieved? and/or best practices for testing Selenium tests against multiple browsers environments without writing duplicate tests automatically?   • Anyone have an XSL to convert Boost.Test XML logs to a presentable format?

    I have some C++ projects running through cruisecontrol.net. As a part of the build process, we compile and run Boost.Test unit test suites. I have these configured to dump XML log files. While the format is similar to JUnit/NUnit, it's not quite the same (and lacks some information), so cruisecontrol.net is unable to pick them up. I am wondering if anyone has created (or knows of) an existing XSL transform that will convert Boost.Test results to JUnit/NUnit format, or alternatively, directly to a presentable (html) format.   • How much of Grails GORM to test?

    Is there a "best practice" or defacto standard with how much of the GORM functionality one should test in the unit/functional tests? My take is that one should probably do most of the domain testing as functional tests so that you get the full grails environment. But what do you test? Inserts, updates, deletes? Do you test constraints even though they were probably more thoroughly tested by the grails release? Or do you just assume that GORM does what it is supposed to do and move to other parts of the application?

    RFC1893 claims that status codes will come in the format below you can read more here. But our bounce management system is having a hard time parsing error status code from bounce messages. We are able to get the raw message, but depending on the email server the code will come in different places. Is there any rule on how to parse this type of messages to obtain better results. We are not looking for the 100% solution but at least 80%. This document defines a new set of status codes to report mail system conditions. These status codes are intended to be used for media and language independent status reporting. They are not intended for system specific diagnostics. The syntax of the new status codes is defined as: status-code = class "." subject "." detail class = "2"/"4"/"5" subject = 1*3digit detail = 1*3digit White-space characters and comments are NOT allowed within a status- code. Each numeric sub-code within the status-code MUST be expressed without leading zero digits. The quote above from the RFC tells one thing but then the text below from a leading tool on bounce management says something different, where I can get a good source of standard status codes: Return Code Description 0 UNDETERMINED - (ie. Recipient Reply) 10 HARD BOUNCE - (ie. User Unknown) 20 SOFT BOUNCE - General 21 SOFT BOUNCE - Dns Failure 22 SOFT BOUNCE - Mailbox Full 23 SOFT BOUNCE - Message Too Large 30 BOUNCE - NO EMAIL ADDRESS.   • authentication error while importing from netbeans to subversion

    Hi Everyone.... I just began looking into source control.... And installed subversion from collabnet... I also use netbeans(6.8) to work with PHP... I have done the following steps I have installed subversion is c:\program files\collabnet\ and the root for the repositories in e:\svn_repository I then created a repository as e:\svn_repository\lemon I then edited the passwd file and added the user and password I then tried importing an existing project into the repository with the address - svn://localhost/lemon with the new user and password. After all this, i get the error "authentication failed"... I am pretty sure the authentication is correct... I tried importing the project with the address file:///E:/sv_repository/lemon with no authentication and it connected... But i got other guys who got to connect to this server through lan and svn:// protocol is the only option.... What am i doing wrong here..? Also.. where can i find a proper tutorial to connect netbeans and collabnet subversion.....? Thanks for your suggestions and time...

  • Mock Repository vs. Real Repository w/Mocked Data

    I must be doing something fundamentally wrong. I am implmenting my repositories and then testing them with mocked data. All is well. Now I want to test my domain objects so I point them at mock repositories. But I'm finding that I have to re-implement logic from the 'real' repositories into the mocks, or, create 'helper classes' that encapsulate the logic and interact with the repositories (real or mock), and then I have to test those too. So what am I missing - why implement and test mock repositories when I could use the real ones with mocked data? EDIT: To clarify, by 'mocked data' I do not hit the actual database. I have a 'DB mock layer' I can insert under the real repositories that returns known-data.

  • Continuous builds and Agile vs commit often

    Hi All, I'm just doing some formal training in Agile at the moment and one question I have is about the value of Continuous Builds vs value of committing to the version control system often. My understanding with version control is that its better to commit often, because then you have history and the ability to go back to previous changes in a fine grained way. My understanding with Agile and continuous build is that its there to put pressure on the developers to always have working code. That to break the source tree is a taboo thing to do. Now i agree with both of these sentiments, but it occurs to be that sometimes these might be working against each other. You maybe in the middle of a largish code change and want to commit code to make sure you have history, but this will break the source tree. Anybody got any thoughts on this? Cheers Mark.

I could test a couple classes successfully. But I got error when testing the following: - (id)init { if (self = [super initWithNibName:@"Foo" bundle:nil]) { ... } return self; } The error message is -[UIViewController _loadViewFromNibNamed:bundle:] was unable to load a nib named "Foo" My question: Did I do something wrong? Missed something? or I cannot test -initWithNibName using Logic Tests technique. Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Can I debug with python debugger when using py.test somehow?

    I am using py.test for unit testing my python program. I wish to debug my test code with the python debugger the normal way (by which i mean pdb.set_trace() in the code) but I can't make it work. Putting pdb.set_trace() in the code doesn't work (raises IOError: reading from stdin while output is captured). I have also tried running py.test with the option --pdb but that doesn't seem to do the trick if I want to explore what happens before my assertion. It breaks when an assertion fails, and moving on from that line means terminating the program. Does anyone know a way to get debugging, or is debugging and py.test just not meant to be together?
