• Iphone App Similar to the Talking Larry Application

  I am developing iphone application similar to the Talking Larry Application. I am facing an issue of Low Memory when i pre-load the animations into an NSMutable Array. If i do not pre-load the animations and load it into the Animation Images when the user touch the button then it takes Time and it play back the animation very Slow. And during video making it does not play the complete animations. How can i resolve this issue. I want to play back the animations similar to the Talking Larry app and do not want to get Low Memory Issue.

I want to check some extended permissions from facebook the first time. How can I know that? (first question) Another way to solved this problem is to store the extended permissions granted in some configuration file. I don't want to make visible this file through app settings icon. • Having trouble with event creation using the events.create API with the iPhone SDK

  I'm using the FBConnect library in my iPhone app, and I'm trying to create Facebook events. After getting a valid session and verifying permissions, I'm using events.create and getting what looks like a valid event ID back from FB in a success response. Oddly the event isn't showing up on my account's Events page either in current or in past events. I thought the problem might be that the event might not include me as an attendee so I followed the successful events.create call with an events.rsvp call to set my status to "attending". That also gets back success from FB, but I'm still not seeing anything show up. Am I missing a step? Is there something other than Create and then RSVP that I need to do, or is there an error with the api/Facebook? I don't think I'm missing any of the required fields for event creation (name and start_time) and I am populating a lot of the other fields in event_info...

• best practice to obtain time zone for iPhone vs iPod Touch

  I am creating an app that requires the users current time zone. If the device being used is an iPhone and the user has their Time Zone set to automatically change, I think I can be fairly confident that localTimeZone or systemTimezone will give me the correct time zone for the user's location. If on the other hand the device is an iPod Touch, the time zone returned by localTimeZone and systemTimeZone appears to always be whatever time zone is set in the Date & Time settings, regardless of the user's actual location. I tried using location services but, while the lat/long is being provided properly, the time zone offset in the timesStamp I am getting is always the same as whatever the user has set for their time zone setting. Any suggestions? John

  In my iPhone app, I'm publishing a bonjour service and using the following delegate method: - (void)netServiceDidPublish:(NSNetService *)ns { NSLog(@"Bonjour Service Published: http://%@.%@", [ns name], [ns domain]); } The "name" property is returning the device name, "How's Testing", which is correct. However, when I use Safari to discover available services the name is "hows-testing" -- the service is http://hows-testing.local.:. Why is the published name different than what is being reported by the NSNetService? How do I display for the actual name of the published service? Assuming that, for some reason, there is no way to get the published name from the object, how do I determine it myself? I understand that it's based on device name, but what are the substitution rules? Remove apostrophes, replace spaces with dash...anything else? What about special characters?

  Folks, I am starting work on an iPad/iPhone application that is essentially a form-filing UI. The requirement is to present a (rather large) form to the user. The form is composed of sections and questions, like so: Form Question 0.1 Question 0.2 Section 1 Question 1.1 etc. The user can take various paths down the form based on answers to questions. I would like to architect this by defining a declarative markup that can be used to author the form questionnaire including traversal rules. My questions are: Can anyone recommend a markup/language that would satisfy the declaration requirement? Is there any existing library that would ease the implementation as described above?   i am done with my first iphone app (SO helps a lot..thanks). now i want to submit my app to app store for review. i can use itunes connect to submit my app.i have few questions. 1)i dont know how to create a build for release. what i mean is i dont know what profile it requires. there are help videos but they all guide to do development provisioning not for release. 2) where do i specify all app attributes like Genre and so on. 3) i dont have iTunesArtwork but it does not show in my itunes when i create distribute build. is it going to same for release. hope my question is genuine.

  Hi, I would like to create my own data format for an iPhone app. The files should be similar structured as e.g. Apple's iWork files (.pages). That means, I have a folder with some files in it: The file 'Juicy.fruit' contains: Fruits ---> Apple.xml ---> Banana.xml ---> Pear.xml ---> PreviewPicture.png This folder "Fruits" should be packed in a handy file 'Juicy.fruit'. Compression isn't necessary. How could I achieve this? I've discovered some open source ZIP-libraries. • Tiling solution for the iPhone that can handle infinite # of tiles

  I have been looking at ways to implement a tiling solution on the iPhone/iPad similar to something like Google Maps. I have looked at examples of how to implement a CATiledLayer into a view that is inside a UIScrollView. Then when you scroll the view, the tiles request the new data to be shown. However, this seems to work when you have a finite view size (ie: 3000x3000). However, how could I work this into a tiling solution for much larger sizes. Basically, I want to be able to show data as needed for tiles as large as I can. Can I somehow use CATiledLayer to do this? Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

  Hi, I am currently developing a simple Pong game for the iPhone. Currently using CGRectIntersectsRect for the collision detection and as for the deflection of the ball when it hits the paddle, I just multiply the ball velocity with -1 (therefore reversing the direction of the ball). What I am trying to do is to make it so that when the ball hits the paddle, it checks whether how far is the ball from the center of the paddle, and increases the deflection angle the further the ball is away from the center of the paddle. (E.g. In this case, the ball will be deflected back at 90 degrees no matter where it came from, as long as it hits the center of the paddle) How am I suppose to do that? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  I am new to iphone development. I have parsed a youtube file and displaying its contents with the image in the table view. But the scrolling has become slower because of displaying image.So i want to display the image as the lazy tables program from apple docs.Since they have used navigation based application , their rootviewcontroller loads first and then the delegate class call the parsing ,and when they reload the table view, the contents are displayed. The data array count shows 25. I am using a view controller to display the tables on the present modal view, more over when i run my application, first delegate methods call the parsing. So when i click the youtube icon in my landing page it navigates to table view. So by this time data array count shows 0. I have created table view in interface builder and set the outlets to the file owner properly. Please help me out. I want to increasing the scrolling performance. Thanks.

NSString *urlString = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"myApp://localhost/backup?query=%@", encodedString]; The Html is ON or OFF, it doesn't affect. If I enocode the URL it also doesn't work ...   I am developing an iPhone app that displays several views, all acessed via Tab Bar items. However I need to add an additional item to the Tab Bar that simply launches a URL in Safari. I've accomplished this by adding an empty placeholder view to the TabBar and returning FALSE from shouldSelectViewController when the this view's tabBarItem is clicked on, and launching Safari at the same time. That code is: - (BOOL)tabBarController:(UITabBarController *)tabBarController shouldSelectViewController:(UIViewController *)viewController { if([[viewController tabBarItem] title] == "Website"){ //... launch Safari return FALSE; } else { return TRUE; } } PROBLEM: If the TabBar has too many items, and this "Safari Launch" tab is pushed off to the "More" navigation controller, I lose the capability to intercept the event and prevent the view from loading when clicked. Any suggested tips?

  What is a fast hash function available for the iPhone to hash web urls (images)? I'd like to store the cached web image as a file with a hash as the filename, because I suppose the raw web url could contain strange characters that could cause problems on the file system. The hash function doesn't need to be cryptographic, but it definitely needs to be fast. Example: Input: http://www.calumetphoto.com/files/iccprofiles/icc-test-image.jpg Output: 3573ed9c4d3a5b093355b2d8a1468509 This was done by using MD5(), but since I don't know much about that topic I don't know if it is overkill (- slow).

• Determining the magnitude of a certain frequency on the iPhone

  I'm wondering what's the easiest/best way to determine the magnitude of a given frequency in a sound. It's my understanding that a FFT function will return the magnitudes of all frequencies in a signal. I'm wondering if there is any shortcut I could use if I'm only concerned about a specific frequency. I'll be using the iPhone mic to record the audio. My guess is that I'll be using the Audio Queue Services for recording since I don't need to record the audio to a file. I'm using SDK 4.0, so I can use any of the functions defined in the Accelerate framework (e.g. FFT functions) if needed. Update: I updated the question to be more clear as per Conrad's suggestion.

• Editing and iPhone SDK Framework ?

  I am working with MapKit and want to be able to add a (NSString *)itemTag value to each of my annotations. I have created myAnnotiation.m and myAnnotation.h I tried adding itemTag to the myAnnotation.h/m but when I try to access currentAnnotation.itemTag within my main code, it says "itemID not found in protocols" - so I went to the MapKit.Framework and into MKAnnotation.h. I added (NSString *)itemID, but when I save the .h file in the Framework, it changes the file's icon and doesn't appear to by jiving with everything else. Any help or links to help would be greatly appreciated. I am not even sure if I'm on the right path here, but Googling "modify iphone sdk framework" does not turn up much.

• Simplified iphone In-app store implementation for built-in product features

  This question is for those familiar with implementing the iphone in-app store functionality. The app I'm building has only built-in features that are unlocked when features are purchased. Further, any modifications or additions to store items will require an app update. Also, it is only in English so has no localized languages for the items. If we take those assumptions, is it feasible to skip the step of retrieving the product info with SKProductsRequest and simply use hardcoded data within the app? While I may want to extend my app to greater complexity in the future, I'd like to know if this step to keep it simple would introduce some serious issues. One issue might be, for instance, if we have to expect a few of the items to occasionally be unavailable due to issues on Apple's side and simply trying to purchase it and letting it fail would not be a permissible or workable option in that case (especially if it is uncommon).   I'm working on an iPhone app that offers the user the opportunity to send an e-mail in 3 different places in the app, and for 3 different purposes. Rather than put the same code for showing the e-mail composer in 3 different view controllers, shouldn't I develop a separate E-mail class, create an instance, and then set properties such as To, CC, BCC, Body, HTML_Or_Not, and so on? Also, if I create an instance of such a class, and it brings up the e-mail composer, is it OK to release the class even before the e-mail composer has left the screen?

• iPhone: Best Method for Passing Data to and from a Server

  I am developing an iPhone application that downloads data from a website. The website database is implemented in SQL and the site itself uses the classic ASP interface. I am unsure as to which method would be best for transferring data to and from the server. Both JSON and SOAP require XML processing and I'm not sure how that affects performance or which of those two is best.   hi, I'm trying to manipulate the speed (and pitch) of a sound while playing. so i played around with iphone sdk's AudioUnit. downloaded iPhoneMultichannelMixerTest and tried to add an AUComponent to the graph (in this case a formatconverter). but i get (pretty soon) following error when building: #import <AudioToolbox/AudioToolbox.h> #import <AudioUnit/AudioUnit.h> ... AUComponentDescription varispeed_desc(kAudioUnitType_FormatConverter, kAudioUnitSubType_Varispeed, kAudioUnitManufacturer_Apple); ^^ error: 'kAudioUnitSubType_Varispeed' was not declared in this scope. any ideas why? the documentation on this topic doesn't help me at all (just api doc isn't very helpful when having no clue about the concept behind). there are no examples on how to wire these effects together and manipulating there properties...so maybe i'm totally wrong, anyway any hint is great. thx for help.
