• Communication between java server and matlab client

  I'd like to establish a server(Java)/client (Matlab) communication using socket. They can send messages to each other. An example shows how to do this in Java server and Java client, http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/networking/sockets/clientServer.html. When I try to rewrite the client part in Matlab, I only can get the first message that the Java server sends and display it in the Matlab command window. When I type a message in the Matlab command window, I can't pass it to the Java Server. Jave code: kkSocket = new Socket("localhost", 3434); Matlab equivalent: kkSocket = Socket('localhost', 3434); Java code for client: out = new PrintWriter(kkSocket.getOutputStream(), true); in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(kkSocket.getInputStream())); What would be a Matlab equivalent for this? • Very Urgent :How to start a new session if a user click on the new tab in IE or mozilla on websphere

  Hi, I have one "user search" portlet on the home page of one application running on websphere portal server.Which display the matching user records as per the search criteria filled in the search form.I have requirement to have a "back to search input" link on the results page which onclick should show the filled form on the input jsp. The issue which i am facing is if i open the application in two diff tab of same IE browser and start giving some search criteria and submit and same time search for some other input from other IE tab (in the same browser)and then go back to previous tab and click on "back to search input" link then instead of showing me the first input it will show me the imput which i entered in the next IE tab. I am setting and getting the bean(form bean) through portlet session.but in the two diff tab of same IE it will be the sae user session (and may be the same portlet session..) Please tell me solution for this. The one thing to be notice here is i can access this "user search" application even without doing login also.so it must be taking the default portlet session in this case. what wil happen once i login and then search,will it going to overwrite the portlet session and http session or howz is that?

• Make a USB Device, Control It In Java

  I'm thinking about making a physical controller (device?) with knobs, buttons, and LEDs. I'd like to interact with it using Java (respond to the knobs, light up LEDs, etc). The reason I mention Java is two-fold: first, I know Java well1. Second, I've written the rest of the program I need to interface with in Java (though there are ways to talk to the Java program from another language). I would like the device to connect via USB and be (computer-)platform independent. I haven't the slightest idea of where to start, except to start reading the Arduino website. Is this my best/only option? Is there something better suited for communicating with Java? Note: I know that Arduino has something to do with Java (not sure what), but it seems like code must be written in a subset of C. How would I get moving on this topic? 1 - No laughter, please.

  The problem doesn't seemed to have anything to do with Hibernate. As I've commented the Hibernate stuff but I'm still getting it. If I comment out this line message = staffDAO.searchForStaff(search); in my controller file, it goes through ok. But I don't see anything wrong with searchForStaff function. It's a very simple function that just returns the string "test" and run system.out.println("test"). However are there any new frameworks on the horizon and/or new versions of other frameworks that a web developer should have their eyes on? I heard about the Stripes framework, but it seems as though development has stopped. It also seems grails has a new release coming out as well which that looks like it is just an update to support the new features in the latest groovy release.

• "state is undetermined" when starting Grails app on CloudFoundry

  I have a Grails app that has been running on CloudFoundry for months. I updated the app from Grails 2.0.4 to 2.1.0 and also updated a few plugins I have been using. Now when I push the app to CloudFoundry and do the start, I receive the error: 'appname' state is undetermined, not enough information available. The tomcat Catalina log shows the NoClassDefFoundError below. I've read about issues with the Ivy cache but have not looked into that yet. I have updated vmc to the latest version (0.3.18).   Hello all. I am using JavaMail to do a simple application that sends an email when it finds some files in a directory. I managed to get it worked from Eclipse. I Run the application and it sent the email with no errors. But, when I created the jar, and executed it, it fails in the email sending part. Anyway, if it works fine from Eclipse with the original parameters, I guess that the values are correct, but the problem is creating the jar. I don't know very much about the possible results or changes when creating a jar. Could the JavaMail libraries someway go wrong when the jar is created? Do you have any ideas? • Problems with MediaPlayer, raw resources, stop and start

  Hello everybody, I'm new in Android development and I have the next question/problem. I'm playing around with the MediaPlayer class to reproduce some sounds/music. I am playing raw resources (res/raw) and it looks kind of easy. To play a raw resource, the MediaPlayer has to be initialized like this: MediaPlayer mp = MediaPlayer.create(appContext, R.raw.song); mp.start(); Until here there is no problem. The sound is played, and everything works fine. My problem appears when I want to add more options to my application. Specifically when I add the "Stop" button/option. Basically, what I want to do is...when I press "Stop", the music stops. And when I press "Start", the song/sound starts over. (pretty basic!) To stop the media player, you only have to call stop(). But to play the sound again, the media player has to be reseted and prepared. mp.reset(); mp.setDataSource(params); mp.prepare(); The problem is that the method setDataSource() only accepts as params a file path, Content Provider URI, streaming media URL path, or File Descriptor. So, since this method doesn't accept a resource identifier, I don't know how to set the data source in order to call prepare(). In addition, I don't understand why you can't use a Resouce identifier to set the data source, but you can use a resource identifier when initializing the MediaPlayer. I guess that I'm missing something. I wonder if I am mixing concepts, and the method stop() doesn't have to be called in the "Stop" button. Any help? Thanks in advanced!!!

But after I add these two lines before process.Start() (to run the program in the context of another user account): startInfo.UserName = userName; startInfo.Password = securePassword; The program is not executed and process.StandardOutput.ReadToEnd() returns an empty string. No exceptions are thrown. userName and securePassword are correct (in case of incorrect credentials an exception is thrown). How to run the program in the context of another user account?

• Making a app show inside a GUI in Java

  Hello. I have one problem I've been dealing with for this week. You see, I'm new to Java, so that's probably it... Anyways, I've started a project out of pure curiosity. I had it done in Java, but in plain CMD-style, which is not very pretty. It calls one of my ten programs, chosen by the user using "Case". Eg.: If you type 1, it will go to program 1. After you finish it, it goes back to selection until the user press 0. After that, I've been trying to make a GUI for it. I've been able to create the selector alone and make it respond to the numbers chosen. If you press 1 and click ok, it will tell you you've chosen program 1. I, however, have not been able to make it run the program. I've been trying to make the program show up in a jPanel, part of the main GUI. I failed miserably. The program runs in separate but I can't make them run together like the CMD one.   Given an object X; I want this object to have an image. The image must be stored in the database. I can't store the path, the actual image must be in the database. My question can be answered by answering the following subquestions: a). What type of field should I put in the database? (e.g VARCHAR) b) What type of object should I use for storing and manipulating the image (at an object layer)? • Import web.go error after using goinstall

  With halfdans advice, I was successfully able to use goinstall github.com/hoisie/web.go without any errors after installing git first. However, now when I try to compile the sample code given, go is not finding the web package. I get the error, main.go:4: can't find import: web On this code package main import ( "web" ) func hello(val string) string { return "hello " + val } func main() { web.Get("/(.*)", hello) web.Run("0.0.0.0:9999") } Is there something special I need to do in order for it to recognize the package? I found the package source at $GOROOT/src/pkg/github.com/hoisie/web.go/web. I tried github.com/hoisie/web.go/web as the import and it still did not like that.

• Silverlight/Web Service Serializing Interface for use Client Side

  I have a Silverlight solution that references a third-party web service. This web service generates XML, which is then processed into objects for use in Silverlight binding. At one point we the processing of XML to objects was done client-side, but we ran into performance issues and decided to move this processing to the proxies in the hosting web project to improve performance (which it did). This is obviously a gross over-simplification, but should work. My basic project structure looks like this. Solution Solution.Web - Holds the web page that hosts Silverlight as well as proxies that access web services and processes as required and obviously the references to those web services). Solution.Infrastructure - Holds references to the proxy web services in the .Web project, all genned code from serialized objects from those proxies and code around those objects that need to be client-side. Solution.Book - The particular project that uses the objects in question after processed down into Infrastructure. I've defined the following Interface and Class in the Web project. They represent the type of objects that the XML from the original third-party gets transformed into and since this is the only project in the Silverlight app that is actually server-side, that was the place to define and use them. //Doesn't get much simpler than this. public interface INavigable { string Description { get; set; } } //Very simple class too public class IndexEntry : INavigable { public List<IndexCM> CMItems { get; set; } public string CPTCode { get; set; } public string DefinitionOfAbbreviations { get; set; } public string Description { get; set; } public string EtiologyCode { get; set; } public bool HighScore { get; set; } public IndexToTabularCommandArguments IndexToTabularCommandArgument { get; set; } public bool IsExpanded { get; set; } public string ManifestationCode { get; set; } public string MorphologyCode { get; set; } public List<TextItem> NonEssentialModifiersAndQualifyingText { get; set; } public string OtherItalics { get; set; } public IndexEntry Parent { get; set; } public int Score { get; set; } public string SeeAlsoReference { get; set; } public string SeeReference { get; set; } public List<IndexEntry> SubEntries { get; set; } public int Words { get; set; } } Again; both of these items are defined in the Web project. Notice that IndexEntry implments INavigable. When the code for IndexEntry is auto-genned in the Infrastructure project, the definition of the class does not include the implmentation of INavigable. After discovering this, I thought "no problem, I'll create another partial class file reiterating the implmentation". Unfortunately (I'm guessing because it isn't being serialized), that interface isn't recognized in the Infrastructure project, so I can't simply do that. Here's where it gets really weird. The BOOK project CAN see the INavigable interface. In fact I use it in Book, though Book has no reference to the Web Service in the Web project where the thing is define, though Infrastructure does. Just as a test, I linked to the INavigable source file from indside the Infrastructure project. That allowed me to reference it in that project and compile, but causes havoc in the Book project, because now there's a conflick between the one define in Infrastructure and the one defined in the Web project's web service. This is behavior I would expect. So, to try and sum up a bit. Web project has a web service that process data from a third-party service and has a class and interface defined in it. The class implements the interface. The Infrastructure project references the web service in the Web Project and the Book project references the Infrastructure project. The implmentation of the interface in the class does NOT serialize down, so the auto-genned code in INfrastructure does not show this relationship, breaking code further down-stream. The Book project, whihc is further down-stream CAN see the interface as defined in the Web Project, even though its only reference is through the Infrastructure project; whihc CAN'T see it. Am I simple missing something easy here? Can I apply an attribute to either the Interface definition or to the its implmentation in the class to ensure its visibility downstream? Anything else I can do here? I know this is a bit convoluted and anyone still with me here, thanks for your patience and any advice you might have. Cheers, Steve

• Are there any OSGi web service / SOAP clients out there?

  I'm looking for any webservice client that can be run inside an OSGi container and connect to a simple web service using SOAP, doesn't sound so hard does it? Oh, and it has to work under Java 1.5, so the JRE jax-ws wont be present. The problem is I've tried a few solutions now, and although each solution works in standard Java using it from within OSGi doesn't. the springsource JAX-WS bundles seem to have dependency issues the CXF bundles get me as far as calling the service, but then can seem to find the stub methods in the proxy Is there anyone out there who has successfully created an OSGi webservice client?

  I'm reading a book about programming ASP.NET in C#. The book makes the following comment: Previous editions of this book tackled web services, a feature that allows you to create code routines that can be called by other applications over the Internet.Web services are more interesting when considering rich client development (because they allow you to give web features to ordinary desktop applications),and they’re in the process of being replaced by a new technology known as WCF (Windows Communication Foundation). For those reasons, web services aren’t covered in this book.However,if you want to branch out and explore the web service world,you can download the web service chapters from the previous edition of this book from the book’s download page.The information in these chapters still applies to ASP.NET 3.5,because the web service feature hasn’t changed. Can someone offer, in "layman's terms" what exactly a web service is and if, indeed, they are being replaced, at least in .Net, with WCF? What would be a practical example of a web service? Are they stand alone programs that run on a web server and are invoked by a client or clients?
