  • iphone memory leaks and malloc?

    - by Brodie4598
    Okay so im finally to the point where I am testing my iPad App on an actual iPad... One thing that my app does is display a large (2mb) image in a scroll view. This is causing the iPad to get memory warnings. I run the app in the instruments to check for the leak. When I load the image, a leak is detected and i see the following in the allocations: ALl Allocations: 83.9 MB Malloc 48.55 MB: 48.55 MB Malloc 34.63 MB: 34.63 MB What im trying to understand is how to plug the leak obviously, but also why a 2MB image is causing a malloc of 20x that size I am very new to programming in obj-c so im sure this is an obvious thing, but I just cant figure it out. Here is the code:

  • Why does presentModalViewController not always work?

    - by E-Madd
    My application requires data from a server in order to run. The first thing it does is displays a view controller (LoadingViewController) that is responsible for checking if the data is saved to my PersistentStoreCoordinator. If the data isn't cached locally, it gets it from my server and caches it, and posts a notification that the LoadingViewController is listening for. When that notification comes through, LoadingViewController presents the application's MainViewController using the presentModalViewController with a flip animation. So far, so good... no errors. However, if the application loads and determines the data IS cached - the presentModalViewController does not work and the main application view never appears. No errors. I've even gone as far as adding a button to the Loading view that executes the same code when pressed and the damn thing works. I'm suspicious it has something to do with the timing of it all but I'm clueless as to what I can do to ensure the view is displayed with that flipping animation if the data is already cached locally. Any suggestions?

  • Model Object called in NSOutlineView DataSource Method Crashing App

    - by Alec Sloman
    I have a bewildering problem, hoping someone can assist: I have a model object, called Road. Here's the interface. @@@ @interface RoadModel : NSObject { NSString *_id; NSString *roadmapID; NSString *routeID; NSString *title; NSString *description; NSNumber *collapsed; NSNumber *isRoute; NSString *staff; NSNumber *start; NSArray *staffList; NSMutableArray *updates; NSMutableArray *uploads; NSMutableArray *subRoads; } @property (nonatomic, copy) NSString *_id; @property (nonatomic, copy) NSString *roadmapID; @property (nonatomic, copy) NSString *routeID; @property (nonatomic, copy) NSString *title; @property (nonatomic, copy) NSString *description; @property (nonatomic, copy) NSNumber *collapsed; @property (nonatomic, copy) NSNumber *isRoute; @property (nonatomic, copy) NSString *staff; @property (nonatomic, copy) NSNumber *start; @property (nonatomic, copy) NSArray *staffList; @property (nonatomic, copy) NSMutableArray *updates; @property (nonatomic, copy) NSMutableArray *uploads; @property (nonatomic, copy) NSMutableArray *subRoads; - (id)initWithJSONObject:(NSDictionary *)JSONObject; @end This part is fine. To give you some background, I'm translating a bunch of JSON into a proper model object so it's easier to work with. Now, I'm trying to display this in an NSOutlineView. This is where the problem is. In particular, I have created the table and a datasource. - (id)initWithRoads:(NSArray *)roads { if (self = [super init]) root = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithArray:roads]; return self; } - (NSInteger)outlineView:(NSOutlineView *)outlineView numberOfChildrenOfItem:(id)item { if (item == nil) return root.count; return 0; } - (BOOL)outlineView:(NSOutlineView *)outlineView isItemExpandable:(id)item { return NO; } - (id)outlineView:(NSOutlineView *)outlineView child:(NSInteger)index ofItem:(id)item { if (item == nil) item = root; if (item == root) return [root objectAtIndex:index]; return nil; } - (id)outlineView:(NSOutlineView *)outlineView objectValueForTableColumn:(NSTableColumn *)tableColumn byItem:(id)item { return [item title]; } In the final datasource method, it attempts to return the "title" string property of the model object, but for some reason crashes each time. I have checked that the method is taking in the correct object (I checked [item class] description], and it is the right object), but for some reason if I call any of the objects accessors the app immediately crashes. This is totally puzzling because in the init method, I can iterate through root (an array of RoadModel objects), and print any of its properties without issue. It is only when I'm trying to access the properties in any of the datasource methods that this occurs. I wonder if there is something memory-wise that is going on behind the scenes and I am not providing for it. If you can shed some light on to this situation, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

  • Using plist to populate a grouped table

    - by Jack Griffiths
    Hi there, I was wanting to use a plist to populate my grouped table. I've had a look at the DrillDownSave sample project, and I'm still none-the-wiser. Although, I did learn that I could store hierarchies and suchlike in there. So here's the questions: How can I use my plist to add new items to my grouped table? I'm currently feeding the table with an array, and I've noticed that an array isn't going to be the best thing for me. When a user taps on an item in the plist, how can I push the view to the corresponding item? In other words, how can I push the view based on the selected row (which was generated by the plist) to it's next "view"? If that makes any sense, please reply. Thanks, Jack.

  • Using an IBAction method when it is not called from an action?

    - by cannyboy
    Are there any issues when using IBAction when it is not actually called from a user's action? If you have an action like -(IBAction)sayHello:(id)sender; You can call it from within your class like: [self sayHello:@"x"] The @"x" doesn't do anything, it just fills in for the sender. You can actually create an IBAction method without (id)sender -(IBAction)sayHello; and call it from both user's actions and from within the code, but then you won't get any useful sender info from the interface. What's the 'correct' way of filling in for the sender, when calling from the code? And can you create sender info to send when it's called from within the code? Just trying to figure it out.

  • TTTabItem in three20 icon not working?

    - by Frank
    I have been trying to get TTTabItem to work with images. And I dug up that you can set the icon to an image file. This is my implemenation: TTTabItem *tab1 = [[[TTTabItem alloc] initWithTitle:@"Item 1"] autorelease]; tab1.icon = @"bundle://icon_eat_min.png"; filterBar.tabItems = [NSArray arrayWithObjects: tab1, nil]; [scrollView addSubview:filterBar]; However, my icon doesn't even appear. I even search through this group: http://groups.google.com/group/three20/browse_thread/thread/f879f6643... and override the rounded style. But I am just contemplating why would you have an something you can set and not have it work? or am i doing this badly

  • How to get the last key pressed on Mac ?

    - by Dheeraj
    Hi All, I'm writing a plugin for an application. I cannot derive from NSApplication as it is a third party application. I can get the callback in my plugin when any key is pressed. But I will not know what key is pressed. So is there any call in Cocoa to find the last key pressed when I get the callback? I only have NSView object. Any ideas will help me a lot. Thanks, Dheeraj.

  • One off errors with NSLog and NSString stringWithFormat

    - by David Liu
    Does anyone know why there would be one-off errors with NSLog and NSString? It works fine in 99% of my program, but for some reason this error appears in one of my model's description method: Example code: localFileId = 7; type = 2; localId = 5; NSLog(@"CachedFile localId=%d, 2=%d, localFileId=%d, type=%d, path=%@", localId, 2, localFileId, type, self.path); Example Result: CachedFile localId=5, 2=0, localFileId=2, type=7, path=(null) Notice the "0" that gets inserted in there, where it should be "2=2". This happens with NSString stringWithFormat as well.

  • NSInvocationOperation and main thread

    - by kpower
    Imagine that I have a view with some UIKit object as its subview (for example, UIActivityIndicatorView - this doesn't matter). This view also has a selector, called doSomething, which somehow manages UIKit object (in our example it can start or stop indicator view). I create NSInvocationOperation (from view's code parts) with initWithTarget:self selector:@selector(doSomething) object:nil. Then add it to NSOperationQueue. And all works fine. How?! It should be a new thread and non-thread-safe UIKit object! Why no error found (and no crash happened)?

  • NSKeyedUnarchiver chokes when trying to unarchive more than one object

    - by ajduff574
    We've got a custom matrix class, and we're attempting to archive and unarchive an NSArray containing four of them. The first seems to get unarchived fine (we can see that initWithCoder is called once), but then the program simply hangs, using 100% CPU. It doesn't continue or output any errors. These are the relevant methods from the matrix class (rows, columns, and matrix are our only instance variables): -(void)encodeWithCoder:(NSCoder*) coder { float temp[rows * columns]; for(int i = 0; i < rows; i++) { for(int j = 0; j < columns; j++) { temp[columns * i + j] = matrix[i][j]; } } [coder encodeBytes:(const void *)temp length:rows*columns*sizeof(float) forKey:@"matrix"]; [coder encodeInteger:rows forKey:@"rows"]; [coder encodeInteger:columns forKey:@"columns"]; } -(id)initWithCoder:(NSCoder *) coder { if (self = [super init]) { rows = [coder decodeIntegerForKey:@"rows"]; columns = [coder decodeIntegerForKey:@"columns"]; NSUInteger * len; *len = (unsigned int)(rows * columns * sizeof(float)); float * temp = (float * )[coder decodeBytesForKey:@"matrix" returnedLength:len]; matrix = (float ** )calloc(rows, sizeof(float*)); for (int i = 0; i < rows; i++) { matrix[i] = (float*)calloc(columns, sizeof(float)); } for(int i = 0; i < rows *columns; i++) { matrix[i / columns][i % columns] = temp[i]; } } return self; } And this is really all we're trying to do: NSArray * weightMatrices = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:w1,w2,w3,w4,nil]; [NSKeyedArchiver archiveRootObject:weightMatrices toFile:@"weights.archive"]; NSArray * newWeights = [NSKeyedUnarchiver unarchiveObjectWithFile:@"weights.archive"]; What's driving us crazy is that we can archive and unarchive a single matrix just fine. We've done so (successfully) with a matrix many times larger than these four combined.

  • How do you delete rows from UITableView?

    - by James
    This has been bugging me for hours now and i have not been able to figure it out. I am importing data into a tableview using core data and NSMutableArray. As shown below. CORE DATA ARRAY NSMutableArray *mutableFetchResults = [CoreDataHelper getObjectsFromContext:@"Spot" :@"Name" :YES :managedObjectContext]; self.entityArray = mutableFetchResults; TABLE VIEW - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { NSManagedObject *object = (NSManagedObject *)[entityArray objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleSubtitle reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; } NSString *lat1 = [object valueForKey:@"Email"]; //NSLog(@"Current Spot Latitude:%@",lat1); float lat2 = [lat1 floatValue]; //NSLog(@"Current Spot Latitude Float:%g", lat2); NSString *long1 = [object valueForKey:@"Description"]; //NSLog(@"Current Spot Longitude:%@",long1); float long2 = [long1 floatValue]; //NSLog(@"Current Spot Longitude Float:%g", long2); //Getting current location from NSDictionary CoreDataTestAppDelegate *appDelegate = (CoreDataTestAppDelegate *) [[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; NSString *locLat = [NSString stringWithFormat:appDelegate.latitude]; float locLat2 = [locLat floatValue]; //NSLog(@"Lat: %g",locLat2); NSString *locLong = [NSString stringWithFormat:appDelegate.longitude]; float locLong2 = [locLong floatValue]; //NSLog(@"Long: %g",locLong2); //Distance Shizzle //Prime's Location CLLocation *loc1 = [[CLLocation alloc] initWithLatitude:lat2 longitude:long2]; //Home Location CLLocation *loc2 = [[CLLocation alloc] initWithLatitude:locLat2 longitude:locLong2]; double distance = [loc1 getDistanceFrom: loc2] / 1000; int myInt = (int)(distance + (distance>0 ? 0.5 : -0.5)); //NSLog(@"INT VAL :%i", myInt); NSMutableString* converted = [NSMutableString stringWithFormat:@"%.1f", distance]; [converted appendString: @" Km"]; //NSLog(@"Distance between Prime and home = %g", converted); if (myInt < 11) { cell.textLabel.text = [object valueForKey:@"Name"]; cell.detailTextLabel.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:converted]; } else { } // Configure the cell... return cell; } I am trying to get the table only to display results that are within a certain distance. This method here works apart from the fact that the results over a certain distance are still in the table, they are just not graphically visible. I am led to believe that i have to carry out the filtering process before the formatting the table but i can not seem to do this. Please help. My xcode skills are not brilliant so code suggestions would be helpfull.

  • Custom Scrollbar for UITableView

    - by iFloh
    the iTunes song list display is a TableView that has a dotted scrollbar on the right which allows me to jump to a relative position of the list (i.e. if I click the bar at 2/3 down I am scrolled to the 66% position of the list. I want to do the same in my UITableView, but am not sure whether this is standard functionality that I can use (which class?) or whether this is a custom build ... If the latter, has someone got some samplecode that I could use as a template?

  • Find distance between two points using MKMapKit

    - by mag725
    Hi, I'm attempting to find the euclidean distance in meters between two points on an MKMapView using iPhone OS 3.2. The problem is that I have these coordinates in terms of latitude and longitude, which, mathematically provides me enough data to find the distance, but it's going to take some tricky trigonometry. Is there any simpler solution? Thanks!

  • Custom cell just failing

    - by ct2k7
    Hi, I'm trying to use a custom UITableViewCell, and I've placed it in the same nib file as the UITableView controller. For this, the files are: NTItems.h, NTItems.m and NTItems.xib. I have defined the cell in the header file: IBOutlet UITableViewCell *cellview; and I've correctly applied the property: nonatomic, retain so it's there. In the m file - I've synthesized the variable device and am using this to get the custom cell: if(cell == nil){ cell = self.cellview; } However, when I load the table, I get this horrible mess: There should be more than 1 cell showing data as well. On another note, how do I map the labels to the text which is to be displayed?

  • White bar at the bottom of root view!

    - by Sam
    Hi, I have two view controllers in the app. When the app starts, the layout of the root view controller's view is just fine. When a button is clicked, the view controller switches to the other one - which shows fine too. However, when the view is switched back to the root view, the contents are shifted UP by about 20 pixels, leaving a white bar at the bottom! - and it was not there when the app had started. Has anyone seen this? Any idea what's going on there? Thanks, Sam.

  • Problem with saveToFile

    - by zp26
    Hi, I have a problem with a NSData writeToFile. I have implemented the code below but i have an anomaly. When i run my program on the simulator, the new file is created and the informations are stored; when i build the app in my device , the file isn't created. The debug don't give me any error but don/t save anything. Can you help me? Thanks so much and sorry for my english. -(void)saveXML:(NSString*)name:(float)x:(float)y:(float)z{ NSMutableData *data = [NSMutableData data]; NSKeyedArchiver *archiver = [[NSKeyedArchiver alloc] initForWritingWithMutableData:data]; [archiver setOutputFormat:NSPropertyListXMLFormat_v1_0]; [archiver encodeFloat:x forKey:@"x"]; [archiver encodeFloat:y forKey:@"y"]; [archiver encodeFloat:z forKey:@"z"]; [archiver encodeObject:name forKey:@"name"]; [archiver finishEncoding]; BOOL result = [data writeToFile:@"XML Position" atomically:YES]; if(result) [self updateTextView:@"success"]; [archiver release]; }

  • Access custom label property at didSelectRowAtIndexPath.

    - by Mr. McPepperNuts
    I have a UILabel for each cell at cellForRowAtIndexPath. UILabel *cellLabel = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:frame]; cellLabel.text = myString; I want to access that string "myString" at didSelectRowAtIndexPath using indexpath. NSString *anotherString = cell.textLabel.text; returns null. Now if at cellForRowAtIndexPath, I did something like cell.textLabel.text = theString; then the didSelectRowAtIndexPath returns the appropriate cell. My question is, how can I access the text in the UILabel I apply to the cell, at didSelectRowAtIndexPath? Also, logging the cell in didSelectRowAtIndexPath returns cell: <UITableViewCell: 0x5dcb9d0; frame = (0 44; 320 44); autoresize = W; layer = <CALayer: 0x5dbe670>> Edit: NSString *myString = [[results objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] valueForKey:@"name"]; //cell.textLabel.text = myString; CGFloat width = [UIScreen mainScreen].bounds.size.width - 50; CGFloat height = 20; CGRect frame = CGRectMake(10.0f, 10.0f, width, height); UILabel *cellLabel = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:frame]; cellLabel.text = myString; cellLabel.textColor = [UIColor blackColor]; cellLabel.backgroundColor = [UIColor whiteColor]; cellLabel.textAlignment = UITextAlignmentLeft; cellLabel.font = [UIFont systemFontOfSize:14.0f]; [cell.contentView addSubview:cellLabel]; [cellLabel release]; return cell;

I added the .png file to my resources directory in Xcode and when I create the applicaiton the .png file shows up in my resources inside package contents but I am havhing trouble figuring out how to reference file here is what I tried: [image initWithContentsOfFile:@"resources/draw-button.png"]; I figured that my package contents would be my current directory so I thought this would work, but it does. How do I reference my resources directory?

  • Tell The Program What To Do When No Save Data Is Found NSUserDefaults, iPhone

    - by Stumf
    Hello all, I have saved data which was saved using NSUserDefaults. I was under the impression that if there was nothing saved to the key already (first time app is run) it would default to 0. This however doesn't seem to be the case. Here is what I have: To save: - (void)viewWillDisappear:(BOOL)animated { [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] setInteger:setbatteryHealthCalculated forKey:@"healthValue"]; [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] synchronize]; } To load: - (void) viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { NSInteger setbatteryHealthCalculated = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] integerForKey:@"healthValue"]; } To check for save value: - (IBAction)check{ NSInteger setbatteryHealthCalculated = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] integerForKey:@"healthValue"]; if (setbatteryHealthCalculated = 0) { [self performSelector:@selector(displayAlert) withObject:nil]; }

  • Does different iVar name change retain count when used with property

    - by russell
    Here is 2 code snapshot- Class A:NSObject { NSMutableArray *a; } @property (retain) NSMutableArray *a; @implementation @synthesize a; -(id)init { if(self=[super init]) { a=[[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; } } @end Class A:NSObject { NSMutableArray *_a; } @property (retain) NSMutableArray *a; @implementation @synthesize a=_a; -(id)init { if(self=[super init]) { _a=[[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; } } @end Now what i need to know, is in both code instance variable assigned value directly rather than using accessor and retain count is 1? Or there is difference between them. Thanks. And one more things, apple recommended not to use accessor in init/dealloc, but at the same time ask not to directly set iVar. So what is the best way to assign value of ivar in init()??
