  • VPN/IPsec for RD, port 80,

    I have two Windows VPS's that talk to each other. 1) I already firewall Remote Desktop to a few IPs. I want to require me to connect instead to the server via VPN (IPSec?) in order to then be able to RD. 2) I want to also only permit access to port 80 on the server if I am VPN'd in to the server (authenticated) 3) If possible, I want to secure communication between other VPS's I have using the same method?     We are building an application where we want anything the following to be SSL: secure.ourapp.com - all pages must be SSL (can this be done with a Vhost in apache?) www.ourapp.com/signup - SSL www.ourapp.com/login - SSL www.ourapp.com/information - NOT SSL So my question is: can you put SSL on some pages and not on others?     Recently, Google updated their search results page. Unfortunately, this broke pretty much every Greasemonkey script used on the results page, including the very useful filter scripts. I use these scripts at work when I encounter a coding problem that (for some reason) hasn't been answered at StackOverflow, and don't want to see sites like experts-exchange. Has anyone found a new script or updated their own to work with Google's new results page?

    I have an extensive network of servers all currently hosted on AWS EC2. For reasons of cost I plan to gradually migrate to dedicated servers where possible. So: How can I best combine AWS and non-AWS servers in my network? Ideally, I should be able to assign internal IP addresses to the external servers, include them in AWS security groups and ensure that all private traffic between my AWS servers and external servers is secure.

    I have a client that is divesting a business unit into a new AD forest, Exchange org, etc. We're using Quest tools to migrate users and mailboxes. However, I have to build the new infrastructure to match the old one. In the old one, we're using Managed Folder Mailbox Policies to limit (or allow) retention. They started with Exchange 2007 and never upgraded to Retention Policies; oh well. So, in the old environment, when you use a 2007 server to define a new Managed Content Setting, you can pick "Email" from the dropdown for MessageClass.   • FTP server (open source?) with paid support

    Corporate has asked us to look for an FTP server solution with paid support. Our team has a preference for open source, and would normally support it ourselves. But the guys at the top want that secure feeling of paying someone to CYA. Soooooo....what kind of options are out there for FTP server that supports FTP, FTPS, SFTP, plus has a web-based front end so people could transfer files that way...that also has the option of paid support? Any recommendations?

    I'm running a certain desktop app (actually via AIR if it makes any difference) which doesn't have any built-in proxy configuration settings. I need to get all traffic just from this app directed through a secure SOCKS proxy. This implies I can't use the global network preferences, as these would affect many other apps. Is there any way to force all network communication through a given SOCKS proxy on a per-app basis?

Does anyone know of a good resource for walking me through the steps to properly create a chrooted environment for Ubuntu 10.10?

    I'm looking to secure my server. Initially my first thought was to use iptables but then I also learnt about Fail2ban. I understand that Fail2ban is based on iptables, but it has the advantages of being able to ban IP's after a number of attempts. Let's say I want to block FTP completely: Should I write a separate IPtable rule to block FTP, and use Fail2ban just for SSH Or instead simply put all rules, even the FTP blocking rule within the Fail2Ban config Any help on this would be appreciated.     We have a wireless network that is set to secure, it does show as unsecure on my laptop, and desktop connect to router but no internet access. other computers on the network require password to connect to router and get internet access. Iphone and Ipads connect using password and also have internet access, what can I do to fix it. Laptop = dell e6410 Router = netgear The laptop work on other wireless networks without any problem

    I have a website that is meant to be using SSL, however there are two entries in Cpanel's httpd.conf which seem to be causing an issue. When I visit just www.website.com I require it to go to https://www.website.com. However I have to write the https:// directly for the site to work. The secure site also has a different IP.     Is it virus-safe to do quick format of hard drive? I want to format disk that was infected and install windows 7 on it, but I am not sure if Quick Format is secure enough. I am aware that it does not delete data but pointers to it, so I wonder if it is possible that virus activates from that data? Thanks

  • 'No volume found' on Windows 7 VM (VHD), can I get anything back?

    The worst possible situation... Despite my vigilence doing backups, and trying to keep my PC secure, one of my VMs disk seems to be wiped out. Using the VHD tool from R1Soft (HyperV VHD Explorer), when I attach the VHD, it says no volumes found so it looks like something wiped out the VHD (which it still its original size). It seems that something has sneaked through whatever security I have/had and has wreaked havoc. Can I recover anything from this?

    In a small three-user environment running Outlook 2007 on Exchange 2010, all users previously just used one user's calendar as their main calendar. New employee #4 has been set up with his own calendar per the owner's request, they use colored categories for their calendar events, and his categorized activities are not showing up as colored on the other users' Outlook calendars - only his own. What settings should I look at to enable the correct color coding again?

  • Connect Linux machine to a windows active directory

    Hi, I have a Linux machine which connected to an Active Directory on Windows server. I configured the NIC to get an IP from the DHCP (from the windows server) however, when I try to get nslookup on the Linux side it doesn't work (connection timeout), but on the same machine when I load windows and do nslookup it works. what can be wrong with my Linux configuration or Windows DNS configuration? note: I've configured my DNS to nonsecure and secure connections. 10x!
