    Hello, I have written a custom exception object. The reason for this is I want to track additional information when an error occurs. The only difference is, I do not have the GetObjectData method defined or the constructor with SerializationInfo defined. If I run the application as is, I receive an error that says: Type 'My.MyException' cannot be serialized. Consider marking it with the DataContractAttribute attribute, and marking all of its members you want serialized with the DataMemberAttribute attribute. If the type is a collection, consider marking it with the CollectionDataContractAttribute. If I add the DataContract / DataMember attributes to the class and its appropriate members on the server-side, I receive an error that says: Type cannot be ISerializable and have DataContractAttribute attribute. How do I serialize MyException so that I can pass an instance of it to my WCF service. Please note, I want to use my service from an Android app. Because of this, I don't want to do anything too Microsoft centric. That was my fear with DataContract / DataMember stuff. A friend told me about sendgrid.com, but that's the only one i've heard of.

  • How to safely remove global.asax from web service

    I have a web service asp.net project which has a global.asax with empty Application_Start and Application_End implementations. As far as I can understand, in this case it is of no use and could be removed (correct me if I'm wrong). Do I need to do anything other than delete global.asax and global.asax.cs (such as change something in web.config or in the project settings)? Just asking in order to not screw up some dependencies I'm not aware of...

    When I add a service reference to my Visual Studio 2010 C# project, a new class for one of the types defined in the WSDL will be generated. A de-facto equivalent definition of that type already exists in our solution in a different assembly. When adding the SoapTypeAttribute to the existing class and replacing the references to the generated class in the generated code, everything runs perfectly and as expected. How would I tell Visual Studio to use the existing class in the generated code?

    I want to get the current weather conditions from the NOAA. I know they have a SOAP web service that can be used to get weather forecasts and XML files for current weather conditions for each of their weather stations. I could just use the XML file for the weather station nearest to where I want, but there doesn't seem to be an easy way to search for the proper xml file by zipcode. Is there a simple way to get current weather conditions by zipcode from the NOAA?

  • Any universal notification service like Adobe Wave

    Any ideas for an universal notification service like Adobe Wave? I need to send status updates (more specifically, things like document change notifications and the like). I could stick to RSS but then I will need either long URLs or HTTP authentications on feeds which not all the clients like. Adobe Wave looked promising but they are only desktop, in BETA, without active development, and seem a bit buggy sometimes. Any other ideas?
