• WPF - How do I use the UserControl with a dependency property and view model?

  Hello, My goal is to have a user select a year and a month. Translate the selection into a date and have the user control send the date back to my view model. That part works for me....However, I cannot get the ViewModel's initial date to set those drop downs. public static readonly DependencyProperty Date = DependencyProperty.Register("ReturnDate", typeof(DateTime), typeof(DatePicker), new FrameworkPropertyMetadata{BindsTwoWayByDefault = true,}); public DateTime ReturnDate { get { return Convert.ToDateTime(GetValue(Date)); } set { SetDropDowns(value); SetValue(Date, value); } } The SetDropDowns(value) just sets the selected items on the combo boxes, however, the program never makes it to that method. On the view I am using: <cc1:DatePicker ReturnDate="{Binding Path=StartDate, Mode=TwoWay}" IsStart="True" /> If this has been answered, then my bad. I looked around and didn't see anything that worked for me. Thus, when the program loads how do I get the value from the view model to a method in order to set the combo boxes? Thanks, -Scott

• What should I do with an over-bloated select-box/drop-down

  All web developers run into this problem when the amount of data in their project grows, and I have yet to see a definitive, intuitive best practice for solving it. When you start a project, you often create forms with tags to help pick related objects for one-to-many relationships. For instance, I might have a system with Neighbors and each Neighbor belongs to a Neighborhood. In version 1 of the application I create an edit user form that has a drop down for selecting users, that simply lists the 5 possible neighborhoods in my geographically limited application. In the beginning, this works great. So long as I have maybe 100 records or less, my select box will load quickly, and be fairly easy to use. However, lets say my application takes off and goes national. Instead of 5 neighborhoods I have 10,000. Suddenly my little drop-down takes forever to load, and once it loads, its hard to find your neighborhood in the massive alphabetically sorted list. Now, in this particular situation, having hierarchical data, and letting users drill down using several dynamically generated drop downs would probably work okay. However, what is the best solution when the objects/records being selected are not hierarchical in nature? In the past, of done this with a popup with a search box, and a list, but this seems clunky and dated. In today's web 2.0 world, what is a good way to find one object amongst many for ones forms? I've considered using an Ajaxifed search box, but this seems to work best for free text, and falls apart a little when the data to be saved is just a reference to another object or record. Feel free to cite specific libraries with generic solutions to this problem, or simply share what you have done in your projects in a more general way

  Hi, I have 3 drop-downs. 1st drop-down contains some values when the page loads. I need to populate 2 nd drop-down based on the value selected in 1st dropdown. Similarly, I need to populate 3 nd drop-down based on the value selected in 1st and 2nd dropdown. I was a flash developer for 3 years, and in the last 5 months, i begin the iphone development, i do 2 applications with interface builder for clients, and now i really want to do a little game, is quite simple, one match 3! I made the engine in interface builder, and seens good to me! But after i read some posts, i really want to try it in the cocos2D! So, in 2 days i rewrite all my first engine for cocos2D, very annoying upsidedown coordinates but ok, i really do! But the performance side by side with interface builder version is really scare! Many Many slow downs at the cocos2d side! And the animation seens bugged to me! I really scare! I really don't know what is the best choice for a simple game. And i want some opinions: Using cocos2d when need some physics? When we have many objects at screen? What is the performance boost i have with cocos2D?   Hello, I have a dynamic chained select box that I am attempting to show the value of on a page load. In my chained select box, it will default to the first option within the select box on page load, could anyone provide assitance? I stumbled upon this thread, but I can't seem to translate what they are doing with that answer to my language of CF.   I have some HTML code in a PhoneGap application that displays a <select> box to the user. When I tap on it, the usual Android selection screen doesn't pop up. I had a similar problem with this earlier on webOS (although at that time the drop-downs were working properly). The <select> is inside a <div> that gets hidden or shown at certain times during execution: <div id="submit"> <ul class="rounded"> <li><select id="item"></select></li> </ul> </div> The problem only occurs when the <div> has been hidden and then shown again (either directly through CSS or by using jQuery's hide() and show() methods. If I move the <select> box outside of that <div>, or if I make the <div> always visible, then the drop-down behaves as it should; no problems. Why is this?

• Dropdown menu not showing when using position: absolute;

  I've just turned my website into a responsive layout and along the way I've somehow managed to make my dropdown menus not work. When hovering over 'Drop-downs' they don't display unless I'm using position: relative. They worked before using position: absolute - but it seems they only work with position relative now. When using relative it uses the width which messes up the navigation bar. After some googling I discovered that mt_rand is not considered secure enough, but I haven't found a suggestion for a replacement. One article suggested reading from /dev/random but not only this won't work on windows; it is also very slow. I want a reasonable balance between security and speed (ie, it shouldn't take 20 seconds to generate 512 bytes, like /dev/random usually does)

• ASP.NET web application can't find an assembly

  I deployed an ASP.NET web application last night and I when I woke up this morning it was very slow and would occasionally just throw a 'Service Unavailable' error. I checked the Event Viewer and it was filled up with these errors: I'm puzzled as it was working perfectly when I deployed it (MonoTorrent is required to retrieve the number of seeders/leechers for a certain torrent off the tracker - this was working fine), but it's no longer working and whenever code that uses MonoTorrent gets involved, the worker process just crashes. MonoTorrent.dll is in the /bin/ directory.

• Get a Facebook stream post by post_id

I have the post_id variable but don't see any method/api call where I can pass in a post_id to get the post contents. The only thing that seems possible is getting the entire stream and comparing the post_id item by item... which is slow and inefficient. Anyone had this problem or know how to do it?

For starters, I can get better non-batch insert performance from SQL Server Express. What really struck me, however, was the slow performance of the find_nnnn queries. Why is retrieving data from MongoDB so slow? What am I missing? Edit: This was all on the local machine, no network latency or anything. MongoDB's CPU usage ran at about 75% the entire time the test was running. Edit 2: Also, I ran a trace on the benchmark program and confirmed that 50% of the CPU time spent was waiting for MongoDB to return data, so it's not a performance issue with the C# driver.

• jQTouch animated table cell hight

  Hi everybody, I am using jQTouch to show a table list. When a cell (really a < li tag in jQTouch) is clicked, I would like to animate the height of the cell down to 0, then hide the element. I have tried using jquery.animate() for this, and it works on firefox/chrome/opera, but it is super slow on the iPhone. Does anyone have any idea how to use -webkit-animate (or some iPhone compatible framework, such as jQTouch), to do this? Thanks, Brett

• Getting Windows 7 SUA's bash shell working with emacs (EmacsW32)?

  Having recently purchased Windows 7 Ultimate in order to gain access to the SUA subsystem, I have been struggling to get SUA's bash utility (/usr/local/bin/bash) working with EmacsW32. M-x shell normally invokes a shell process and pipes stdio through an Emacs buffer and this works well with Cygwin e.g. Cygwin is very slow compared to SUA however, so I am very keen to get this facility working with the EmacsW32 + SUA combo. Any tips, experience, solutions would be appreciated.
