• What is IPKVM and why would I need that to install SQL Server on my Web Server?

  Hello. I have a dedicated server, and will be installing SQL Server. However, my hosting company said they can connect an external CD ROM drive and give me KVM over IP to install SQL Server. My question is, what is IPKVM, and how does it work? Do I need special hardware or software on my side to use it....or do I just connect via remote desktop? Also, why can't I remote into my server through remote desktop instead of using KVM over IP?

• Statement hierarchy in programming languages

  I quickly wrote an interpreter for some sort of experimental programing language i came up with, in PHP (yes, in PHP). The language itself doesn't have anything really special, I just wanted to give it a try. I got the basic things working (Hello World, input to output, string manipulation, arithmetics) but I'm getting stuck with the management of blocks and grouped statements. What I mean is: PHP and most other languages let you do this: ((2+2)*(8+2)+2), of course not only with mathematical computations. My program structure currently consists of a multidimensional array built like this: ID => Type (Identifier, String, Int, Newline, EOF, Comma, ...) Contents (If identifier, int or string) How could I allow statements to be executed in a defined order like in the PHP example above?

  Hi, I have 3 tables (Student, Course, student_course_choose(have field grade)) I defined a view on these 3 tables that get me an Average of the each student. I want to have constraint(with trigger) on these view(or on the table that need it) to limit the average of each student between 13 and 18. I somewhere read that I must use foreach statement(instead of foreach row) on trigger because when I decrease some grade of special student and his/her average become less than 13 they don't give me error (because later I increase grade of another his/her course ). how must I wrote this Trigger? (I want to implement aprh for testing trigger) note:I can write it in SQL server, oracle or Mysql no diff for me.

• Drupal 7: cancel user registration if a wrong field value has been submitted.

Is there a way to cancel user registration, when a new user submits the registration web form with the default Robot value? (i.e. only Male and Female values are allowed). I've looked at the core Trigger module, but don't see anything suitable there. I've looked at the hook_user_presave and hook_user_insert API docs, but don't see a way there to cancel an ongoing user registration. (I was expecting to do that by returning a special value from those methods...) Thank you! Alex

• Custom Date Format with jax-rs in apache cxf?

  Hi, I have been googling to figure out how I can customize the Date format when I use jax-rs on apache CXF. I looked at the codes, and it seems that it only support primitives, enum and a special hack that assume the type associated with @ForumParam has a constructor with a single string parameter. This force me to use String instead of Date if I want to use ForumParam. it is kind of ugly. • Does Displaytag stash the "media type" in a page or request attribute?

  When you enable "export" from Displaytag, the tag code gives you links with special magic parameters that the tag recognizes as indicators that the table contents should be exported (as CSV, Excel, whatever). Well I'm interested in detecting the media type so that (for example) I can exclude columns that make no sense in an export (embedded action buttons, for one thing, or checkboxes for row selection). I suppose I could write a table decorator and use that to stick the media type on the request, but it'd be nice to avoid that if the tag already does it. The documentation is not clear on the subject; I guess I can start digging through the source code too.

• The Definition of Regular Languages

  Good Day, I have tried, and burned my brain to understand the definition of Regular Languages in Discrete Mathematics and its Applications(Rosen) without reaching the goal of understanding why the definition is like that in this book. On page(789), I am rephrasing the definition: Type 3 grammars are defined as: w1 --> w2 Where w1 is a non-terminal, and w2 is of the form: w2 = aB w2 = a Where B is a non-terminal, and a is a terminal. A special case is when w1 is the starting symbol and w2 is lambda(the empty string): w1 = S S --> lambda Two questions I couldn't find an answer for. First, Why can't w2 be of the form Ba. Second, Why lambda is only allowed for the starting symbol only. The book states that, regular languages are equivalent to Finite State Automaton, and we can easily see that a we can build FSA for both cases. I took a look at other resources, and these restrictions don't exist in these resources. Thanks,

• How to determine whether a .NET exception is being handled?

  We're investigating a coding pattern in C# in which we'd like to use a "using" clause with a special class, whose Dispose() method does different things depending on whether the "using" body was exited normally or with an exception. To the best of my understanding, the CLR keeps track of the current exception being handled until it's been consumed by a "catch" handler. However it's not entirely clear whether this information is exposed in any way for the code to access. Do you know whether it is, and if so, how to access it? For example: using (var x = new MyObject()) { x.DoSomething(); x.DoMoreThings(); } class MyObject : IDisposable { public void Dispose() { if (ExceptionIsBeingHandled) Rollback(); else Commit(); } } This looks almost like System.Transactions.TransactionScope, except that success/failure is not determined by a call to x.Complete(), but rather based on whether the using body was exited normally.

• Does MATLAB perform tail call optimization?

  I've recently learned Haskell, and am trying to carry the pure functional style over to my other code when possible. An important aspect of this is treating all variables as immutable, i.e. constants. In order to do so, many computations that would be implemented using loops in an imperative style have to be performed using recursion, which typically incurs a memory penalty due to the allocation a new stack frame for each function call. In the special case of a tail call (where the return value of a called function is immediately returned to the callee's caller), however, this penalty can be bypassed by a process called tail call optimization (in one method, this can be done by essentially replacing a call with a jmp after setting up the stack properly). Does MATLAB perform TCO by default, or is there a way to tell it to?

• jQuery - color cycle animation with hsv colorspace?

  Hi there, I am working on a project, which I need a special body-background for. The background-color should cycle through the color spectrum like a mood light. So I found this: http://buildinternet.com/2009/09/its-a-rainbow-color-changing-text-and-backgrounds/ "But" this snippet is working with the RGB colorspace which has some very light and dark colors in it. Getting just bright colors will only work with the HSV colorspace (e.g. having S and V static at 100 and letting H cycle).   Hi, I have a private repository on Github for a project I'm working on. Until now I had only worked on my home desktop, but I just bought a laptop, and am trying to set it up so that I can work on the project from either computer, and push / pull changes. I added a new SSH key to my Github account for the laptop, and was successful in cloning and making changes to a public test repo that I set up. However, I couldn't clone the private repo. Is there anything special I need to do in the command line in order to clone a private repo? Do I need to set up a new GitHub account for my laptop and set myself up as a collaborator?   I am looking to create a special type of combination in which no two sets have more than one intersecting element. Let me explain with an example: Let us say we have 9 letter set that contains A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, and I If you create the standard non-repeating combinations of three letters you will have 9C3 sets. These will contain sets like ABC, ABD, BCD, etc. I am looking to create sets that have at the most only 1 common letter. So in this example, we will get following sets: ABC, ADG, AEI, AFH, BEH, BFG, BDI, CFI, CDH, CEG, DEF, and GHI - note that if you take any two sets there are no more than 1 repeating letter. What would be a good way to generate such sets? It should be scalable solution so that I can do it for a set of 1000 letters, with sub set size of 4. Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks

  I have a folder full of XHTML files, and a console program to process them. The problem is, it doesn't work when I'm offline, because The remote name could not be resolved: 'www.w3.org' A number of sites, including this one, say to set the XmlResolver to null. That is not not working. I have tried setting the XmlResolver to null every way that I can think of: in the XmlDocument, in XmlTextReader, and in the XmlReaderSettings. I believe that it's just creating a default instance. I have also tried implementing my own XmlResolver, but I don't know what to return for external items. public class NonXmlResolver : XmlUrlResolver { public override object GetEntity( Uri absoluteUri, string role, Type ofObjectToReturn ) { if ( absoluteUri.Scheme == "http" ) throw new Exception("What you talking 'bout, Willis?"); else return base.GetEntity( absoluteUri, role, ofObjectToReturn ); } } The documents do not use any special entities, only pure XML. • Are the contents of a fragment visible outside the host plugin?

  I have never worked with plug-in fragments before. I thought that by creating a new class within a fragment and exporting the package that contains it in the fragment's manifest, I'd be able to access that class from another plug-in that already has a dependency on the host plug-in. However, I cannot seem to make this work. Are the contents of a fragment ever visible to any plug-in besides the host plug-in? If so, is there something special I have to do to allow this?

• Where does complexity bloat from?

  Many of our design decisions are based on our gut feeling about how to avoid complexity and bloating. Some of our complexity-fears are true, we have plenty of painful experience on throwing away deprecated code. Other times we learn that some particular task isn't really that complex as we though it to be. We notice for example that upkeeping 3000 lines of code in one file isn't that difficult... or that using special purpose "dirty flags" isn't really bad OO practice... or that in some cases it's more convenient to have 50 variables in one class that have 5 different classes with shared responsibilities... One friend has even stated that adding functions to the program isn't really adding complexity to your system. So, what do you think, where does bloated complexity creep from? Is it variable count, function count, code line count, code line count per function, or something else?

• R: Using sapply on vector of POSIXct

  I have what may be a very simple question. I want to process a column of POSIXct objects from a dataframe and generate a vector of datetime strings. I tried to use the following sapply call dt <- sapply(df$datetime, function(x) format(x,"%Y-%m-%dT%H:%M:%S")) but to no avail. I keep getting the following error Error in prettyNum(.Internal(format(x, trim, digits, nsmall, width, 3L, : invalid 'trim' argument When I apply this function to a single POSIXct object from the column, I have no problem. So I'm stumped at the moment about what the problem is. Do I need to do something special with POSIXct objects?

• Installing PostgreSQL on Windows

  I'm in a bit of a mess here. I installed PostgreSQL on my Vista computer a couple of days ago but then when asked to enter the password for the postgre user account I couldn't remember it (allegedly I was asked during setup but I don't remember that). Anyway, so I uninstalled Pg with the intention of reinstalling it, removed the user account, it's /Users/ directory and it's special privelleges ("Advanced user profile properties") but when I come to install Pg it seems to think the account still exists as when I supply a password during setup it says that it is not the correct password - meaning that the account still exists somewhere. Is there anyway I can recover this?

• Redirect application's graphical output in Windows Vista/7 (with DWM)

  I want to create a desktop manager that takes informations of all running applications including states and screenshots to display and manipulate them in my virtual space (probably in 3D). It can be considered as another layer of abstraction on top of Windows itself. Because many native Windows Vista/7 features like Flip 3D and Live Thumbnails are able to show each window's activities in real-time e.g. video keeps playing in taskbar's thumbnail, I think DWM allows an application to redirect its output to somewhere else or some special processes are able to collect other applications' graphical outputs (maybe of child processes only). Has Microsoft released a set of public APIs to do so? If not, is it technically possible? And is it easier if I limit my scope to just .NET applications with WPF?

• How do you scroll one area of a page using Android's web browser?

  On the iPhone, safari strips out scrollbars on divs that have overflow set to auto or scroll, but still lets the user scroll with the two-finger swipe gesture. Using an HTC Incredible, we see the scrollbars are again missing, but we cannot figure out any gesture that allows the user to scroll. Is there a special directive we need to add to our HTML? This should affect zillions of websites, any time someone is trying to scroll an area of the page rather than the whole page. Does anyone know how to enable scrolling a div using the web browser on Android phones?

• magic records being deleted

  i have customised oscommerce to pull in a csv file of products, delete anything thats not with an image/proper description/proper title gets removed. The import runs on a cron job basis pulling information from a supplier, it hasnt run since yesterday but a product has disappeared- Anyone who has used oscommerce will know that, product information is stored over multiple tables. example is- products product_description and so on. the thing that has got me that the information is deleted from the product table but not from the product_description table. The product that is being deleted is a manually input one which carries a special tag/prefix on the model item of the product table. Therefore shouldn't be touched at all. Am clueles as what is going on. Is there mysql integrity checks deleting records? could there be another plugin working on oscommerce?

• What is the difference between a 32-bit and 64-bit processor?

  I have been trying to read up on 32-bit and 64-bit processors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/32-bit_processing). My understanding is that a 32-bit processor (like x86) has registers 32-bits wide. I'm not sure what that means. So it has special "memory spaces" that can store integer values up to 2^32? I don't want to sound stupid, but I have no idea about processors. I'm assuming 64-bits is, in general, better than 32-bits. Although my computer now (one year old, Win 7, Intel Atom) has a 32-bit processor.

  Hello i have a products table that contains normal products and configurable product It has a basic stucture of: id name price configurable ('yes', 'no') id_configuration Normal products have configurable no and 0 as id configuration, and configurable products have it set to yes and have the same id_configuration value. The current query is: SELECT `products`.* FROM `products`, `categories`, `product_categories` WHERE `categories`.`id` = 23 AND `products`.`id` = `product_categories`.`id_product` AND `categories`.`id` = `product_categories`.`id_category` AND `products`.`active` = 'yes' AND ORDER BY `pos_new` ASC, `created` DESC LIMIT 0,20 I was wondering if there is a way to group by id_configuration, but only for the configurable products. The reason is that i want only one of the configuration products to show in search. I was thinking i could do a join, but was wondering if there is a way to do some kind of special group by. For example for configurable yes the field should be id_configuration otherwise it should be the id field Thanks a lot for any sugestions
