• How do I restore the privacy pane of the system settings?

  Checking out screenshots of the system settings in Ubuntu 12.10, it seems that I am missing a few. When I open up my settings, I cannot see Privacy, Backup, and Management Service. Also, nothing comes up when I search the Dash for these words. In a previous edition of Ubuntu, I purged Ubuntu One (with sudo apt-get purge ubuntuone-client python-ubuntuone-storage* ubuntuone-couch ubuntuone-installer) and appropriately, I cannot see the Ubuntu One icon. I've also previously purged unity-lens-music Perhaps I purged some metapackage that removed the others? In any case, how do I restore the privacy pane (as well as the other icons)? Also, any suggestions for what I did to remove the packages in the first place (and hence how to avoid this problem in the future)?

I signed up for AWS and while signing up for the free tier of S3, i found this As part of AWS Free Usage Tier, you can get started with Amazon S3 for free. Upon sign-up, new AWS customers receive 5 GB of Amazon S3 storage, 20,000 Get Requests, 2,000 Put Requests, 15GB of bandwidth in and 15GB of bandwidth out each month for one year. source:aws.amazon.com , emphasis mine. 20,000 GET requests & 2000 puts mean , 20,000 page views(max) and 2000 file uploads per month. Isn't that lower than what App Engine offers 43,200,000 requests per day.Am I missing some thing, please help.

  This question already has an answer here: Which Ecommerce Script Should I Use? 1 answer I'm searching for a webshop which provides the following: The shop offers digital goods (like mp3) User can buy a voucher / gift card @Reseller (Or there is a code provided in the CD) User can enter his code @ webshop and gets the download (unregistered) User can enter his code @ webshop and download is added to his/her library (registered) optional: Resellers can buy codes from the Webshop I already tried prestashop as it looks quite nice. But it needs a lot of custom programming (and has a very strange voucher-system). Customer has to add the File into the basket and add the voucher at checkout. I want to skip that ;) Is there a Webshop (Or CMS + Plugin) which provides the things I need? (it could also be a CMS with a Storage/Folder Plugin (like joomla + K2) and a possibility to activate downloads via unique Codes.) Any ideas are highly appreciated :) Thanks in advance.

• Automated Post-billing Service/Solution

  I'm trying to find a solution or service that will allow for my company to automatically take a customer's credit card information via the web to keep on file and bill against based on how much they have used the services we provide. We need a service that will also handle the payment processing as well. Note that this is not recurring billing. The bill at the end of each month won't be the same. Presently, we are having to take a customer's credit card information over the phone and manually input it into Quickbooks, but this just doesn't work for scalability. We will still be manually invoicing the customers, but we need automated credit card acceptance and storage without the liabilities involved with storing it on our own server. Solutions that integrate with Wordpress would be a plus.

  I am new to Ubuntu. I have some old hardware lying around so I decided to build a backup/storage device. I am trying to follow this lifehacker article. It asks me to open a terminal and run sudo apt-get install pysdm. However, I keep getting Unable to locate package pysdm. Does anyone know where my pysdm is or where I can get one. I have run ubuntu from a usb key and have installed it on a hard drive and get the same message.

• How can I play AMR files in Firefox on Ubuntu?

  I use Evernote to keep voice and text notes. Unfortunately, I've just discovered that I can't take full advantage of the cloud storage capabilities of Evernote, because support for Android's native sound file format, AMR, is deficient in Ubuntu. When I view my voice notes in Firefox in Ubuntu, I get a "missing plugin" error. The problem is discussed on the Evernote forums, but the solutions offered there are really lacking. They all involve saving and converting files, which seems like an unreasonable amount of fiddling. Surely an AMR file is just a sound file, and surely Ubuntu could (and should) have a way of playing it? There is some suggestion that Media Player can play AMR format, and I thought there was a Media Player plugin for Firefox. But I can not find any specifics. How can I get Ubuntu to play AMR file directly in Firefox in Ubuntu?

(for example phpfog) PRICE: 29$ -------------- RAM: 613MB (LOL WUT?) CPU: 2 Burst ECUs Storage: 10GB (WUT?) Basically with cloud, to have the same hardware of your entry level dedicated server you have to pay 300-400€... Is it normal? I am missing something?

• sd card won't mount when an android phone is connected after 12.10 fresh install

  I just upgraded to 12.10 via a fresh install. Mounting my Xperia Neo V in 12.04 worked flawlessly however I just discovered that the sd card can't be detected and mounted in 12.10. How can I solve this? Thanks in advance. P. S. I can mount it via a card reader though and it mounts ok in Windows 7. So it surely can't be hardware related. EDIT: Sony Ericsson Neo V running Android 2.3.4. USB mass storage is already turned on.

• Installing updates from hard drive [closed]

  I am using Oneiric Beta 2. Installed it yesterday. Then downloaded 350+ MB of updates and installed it. Then when I tried to auto-mount my drives using Storage manager, I screwed up and the system will boot right up to the Ubuntu Splash screen, then turn off. Anyways planning to reinstall Ubuntu again. But I do not want to have to download the updates again. I have a copy of all the downloaded update files with me. Can anyone tell me how I can install the updates from the hard drive without downloading them again ?? Thanks in advance.....

  My game uses cocos2d-x and will be published on iOS platform first, later on Android. I save a lot of things with CCUserDefault (scores, which level was completed, number of coins taken, etc...). But now I have a big doubt. What will happen when the game will receive its first update? CCUserDefault uses an XML file stored somewhere in the app storage space. This file is created and retained until one uninstalls the app. I am wondering what happens when the app is updated. Will the old XML file be maintained? Because if not, how should I handle app updates (updates in the sense that 2, 3 or more new level packages will be added, but the informations about the old ones, like scores, which level was finished and which not, number of coins, etc., need absolutely not to be lost)?

• Boot Ubuntu from a bootable USB hangs on purple screen

  I recently bought a laptop (Lenovo Y410P) with Windows 8 pre-installed and I'm trying to dual boot Windows 8 and Ubuntu 13.0. I created a bootable usb using Pendrive. Then I changed the Boot Mode to Legacy Support and the boot order so it boots from the flash storage first. When I restarted the computer, I got the error message "SYSLINUX 4.06 EDD 2012-10-23 Copyright (c) 1994-2012 H. Peter Anvin et al" and it just hung there. Fair enough. After some googling I formatted my flash drive in FAT format instead of FAT32. The "SYSLINUX..." error message is gone but now it hangs on a purple screen http://imgur.com/WbdXpZN Does anyone have a suggestion what to do here? I've looked at various posts but none of them seems to have a solution that the author confirmed it worked.

It developed a fault and required replacement of a few parts, all hot swappable. Although we had suppport/warranty this did not include onsite so we arranged to have the parts delivered.   If you see issues during configuration when using Oracle DB if not using UTF8: Workaround: a. During configuration of EPM products, a warning message is displayed if the Oracle DB is not UTF8 enabled. If you continue with the configuration, certain products will not work as they will not be able to read the contents in the tables as the format is wrong.b. The Oracle DB must be setup to use AL32UTF8 or a superset that contains AL32UTF8. c. The only difference between AL32UTF8 and UTF8 character sets is that AL32UTF8 stores characters beyond U+FFFF as four bytes (exactly as Unicode defines UTF-8). Oracle’s “UTF8” stores these characters as a sequence of two UTF-16 surrogate characters encoded using UTF-8 (or six bytes per character). Besides this storage difference, another difference is better support for supplementary characters in AL32UTF8 character set.

  I keep seeing people wanting to do this (or something very similar) and then being surprised at how much it might cost them if they went with Windows Azure. Time for a Q&A. Short answer: No, definitely not. Madness, sheer madness. (Hopefully that was clear enough) Longer answer: No because It would cost you a heck of a lot more than just about any other approach to running a blog. A site that can easily be run on a shared hosting solution (as many blogs do today) does not require the rich capabilities of Windows Azure. Capabilities such as simplified deployed and management, dedicated resources, elastic resources, “unlimited” storage etc. It is simply not the type of application the Windows Azure Platform has been designed for.   We've all seen countless examples of software that ships with "minimum system requirements" like the following: Windows XP/Vista/7 1GB RAM 200 MB Storage How are these generally determined? Obviously sometimes there are specific constraints (if the program takes 200 MB on disk then that is a hard requirement). Aside from those situations, many times for things like RAM or processor it turns out that more/faster is better with no hard constraint. How are these determined? Do developers just make up numbers that seem reasonable? Does QA go through some rigorous process testing various requirements until they find the lowest settings with acceptable performance? My instinct says it should be the latter but is often the former in practice.

  ?itle might be a little bit incorrect. :) Anyway, I'm building a software where employees input time they worked per day (work hours) and employer "pays" for this time. "Payment" is done outside this system, so employer just "confirms" (checkbox or something like this) which work hours are paid. So the question is - what is the best way (both UI and data storage wise) to implement this? At the moment I have this idea: Employee selects week and manually (with some Javascript helpers, like "fill the same time for all days") inputs work hours in every day of the week. Employer confirms payment the same way employee inputs data (selects week, confirms each day). Data is saved in DB as unix timestamp (one day per table row). Problem is 14 inputs (7 days * ("hours from" + "hours to" input), yet this approach seems kinda easy to implement. Maybe I'm overlooking something and this can be done differently and better? Maybe someone has any example of already working software?
