    I have a script that gets the current time, and must pass it to another script. variable v_s_time varchar2(30); exec :v_s_time := to_char(sysdate,'YYYY-MM-DD HH:MI:SS AM'); --Lots of unrelated code here variable v_e_time varchar2(30); exec :v_e_time := to_char(sysdate,'YYYY-MM-DD HH:MI:SS AM'); @"test report script.sql" :v_s_time :v_e_time; --yes, I also tried ":v_s_time", didn't seem to do anything. This does not work, it seems that the literal :v_s_time is passed to the script, instead of what I want: "2010-04-14 05:50:01 PM". To execute this manually, I could enter: @"test report script.sql" "2010-04-14 05:50:01 PM" "2010-04-14 05:57:34 PM" I found that what does work is this: define v_s_time = "2010-04-14 05:50:01 PM" --Lots of unrelated code here define v_e_time = "2010-04-14 05:57:34 PM" @"test report script.sql" "&&v_s_time" "&&v_e_time"; But it is unrealistic to hardcode the datetimes. Anyone know how to handle this? (Oracle 10g)

    Hi all, I'm trying to make one word (variable) of a message box bold in my Java program. Here is my code: int n = messageBox.showConfirmDialog(frame, "The File "+ file +" already exists." + "\n" + "Do you want to replace it?", "File Already Exists!", messageBox.YES_NO_OPTION); I want to make the variable "file" appear in bold text in my message box. So far I have only been able to get the entire message box to appear in bold, or none of it at all. How do I do this?

    I have seen lots of posts here and elsewhere stating that one can access session variables from app_code. I want to access an already created session. this code errors out because of a null exception. string myFile = HttpContext.Current.Session["UploadedFile"]; this creates a null session variable. System.Web.SessionState.HttpSessionState Session = HttpContext.Current.Session; It looks like I can create a new session variable but not access an already created one. Anyone have any idea what might be giving me problems?

    I had an argument with a colleague about the best way to assign a variable in an if..else block. His orignal code was : @products = if params[:category] Category.find(params[:category]).products else Product.all end I rewrote it this way : if params[:category] @products = Category.find(params[:category]).products else @products = Product.all end This could also be rewritten with a one-liner using a ternery operator (? :) but let's pretend that product assignment was longer than a 100 character and couldn't fit in one line. Which of the two is clearer to you? The first solution takes a little less space but I thought that declaring a variable and assigning it three lines after can be more error prone. I also like to see my if and else aligned, makes it easier for my brain to parse it!

    In objective-c I see a lot of sample code where the author assigns a local variable, assigns it to a property, then releases the local variable. Is there a practical reason for doing this? I've been just assigning directly to the property for the most part. Would that cause a memory leak in any way? I guess I'd like to know if there's any difference between this: HomeScreenBtns *localHomeScreenBtns = [[HomeScreenBtns alloc] init]; self.homeScreenBtns = localHomeScreenBtns; [localHomeScreenBtns release]; and this: self.homeScreenBtns = [[HomeScreenBtns alloc] init]; Assuming that homeScreenBtns is a property like so: @property (nonatomic, retain) HomeScreenBtns *homeScreenBtns; I'm getting ready to submit my application to the app store so I'm in full optimize/QA mode.

    Hi all: I moved one years ago from classic OO languages such like Java to Javascript. The following code is definitely not recommended (or even not correct) in Java: if(dayNumber = getClickedDayNumber(dayInfo)) { alert("day number found"); } function getClickedDayNumber(dayInfo) { dayNumber = dayInfo.indexOf("fc-day"); if(dayNumber != -1) //substring found { //normally any calendar month consists of "40" days, so this will definitely pick up its day number. return parseInt(dayInfo.substring(dayNumber+6, dayNumber+8)); } else return false; } Basically I just found out that I can assign a variable to a value in an if condition statement, and immediately check the assigned value as if it is boolean. For a safer bet, I usually separate that into two lines of code, assign first then check the variable, but now that I found this, I am just wondering whether is it good practice or not in the eyes of experienced javascript developers?     Hello, I try to understand the memory management in ObjectiveC and still some things are a misery for me. I've got an instance variable: NSMutableArray *postResultsArray; when a button is clicked in the UI I create new array: self.postResultsArray = [NSMutableArray array]; then I add some objects to the array and when the whole operation is done I would like to release the array: [self.postResultsArray release]; (I assume that all the objects stoed in the array will be released along with the array). The problem appears when I click the button again and in the code I want to create the array again with: self.postResultsArray = [NSMutableArray array]; I get: [CFArray release]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x3d9e390 Can't I initialize the same instance variable for the second time? or maybe I should not release it? and if so, why? Thanks!

    I have a list called cols with column names in it: cols <- c('Column1','Column2','Column3') I'd like to reproduce this command, but with a call to the list: data.frame(Column1=rnorm(10)) Here's what happens when I try it: > data.frame(cols[1]=rnorm(10)) Error: unexpected '=' in "data.frame(I(cols[1])=" The same thing happens if I wrap cols[1] in I() or eval(). How can I feed that item from the vector into the data.frame() command?

Is there another way to do this? Please help, thanks.
