  I have a set of records indexed by id numbers, I need to convert these record's indexes to a new id number. I have a two column table mapping the old numbers to the new numbers. For example given these two tables, what would the update statement look like? Given: OLD_TO_NEW oldid | newid ----------------- 1234 0987 7698 5645 ... ... and id | data ---------------- 1234 'yo' 7698 'hey' ... ... Need: id | data ---------------- 0987 'yo' 5645 'hey' ... ... This oracle so I have access to PL/SQL, I'm just trying to avoid it.

• REST doesn't work with Sever-Client-Client setup

  I am having a problem with my current RESTful api design. What I have is a REST api which is consumed by Django web-server, which renders the HTML templates. REST api > Django webserver > HTML The problem I am encountering is that I have to reconstruct all the URLS like mysite.com/main/cities/<id>/streets/ into equivalent rest api urls on my web-server layer: api.com/cities/<id>/streets/ Thus I have a lot of mapping back and forth, but as far as I know REST says that the client (in this case my web-server) should NOT need to know how to re-construct the urls. Can REST be used for such a setup and how? Or is it only viable for Server-Client architecture. Thanks

• Mandatory profile on Terminal server fails to load. Userenv.log debug

  Hi, We're having a lot of corrupted profiles lately on our profile share. At the moment I have no clue why, but I decided to switch to one mandatory profile since the users can all use the same and there is no need to have seperate profiles for each user. Here's what I did. I logged into the Terminal server with a new user and configured some stuff (imported certificates and a few files). Then I logged out. Later as admin I copied the profile to another server and renamed it to bsilo. I made sure the user hive settings were adjusted. Everyone had access to the hive. I shared the bsilo folder with full access for everyone. I set the NTFS permissions to read, read & execute, list folder contents for domain users. I also renamed NTUSER.DAT to NTUSER.MAN. Now I set a env variable %manprofile% on the Terminal server that points to \server\bsilo\ntuser.man I set the env var as terminal services profile path for a test user. When I log in I as the user get the following output The system cannot find the path specified. Can somebody point me in the right direction. • Phantom updates due to decimal precision on calculated properties

  This article describes my problem. I have several properties that are calculated. These are typed as decimal(9,2) in SQL Server and decimal in my C# classes. An example of the problem is: Object is loaded with a property value of 14.9 A calculation is performed and the property value is changed to 14.90393 When the session is flushed, NHibernate issues an update because the property is dirty Since the database field is decimal (9,2) the stored value doesn't change Basically a phantom update is issued every time this object is loaded. I don't want to truncate the calculations in my business objects because that tightly couples them to the database and I don't want to lose the precision in other calculations. I tried setting scale and precision or CustomType("Decimal(9,2)") in the mapping file but this appears to only affect schema generation. My only reasonable option appears to be creating an IUserType implementation to handle this. Is there a better solution?

  When designing a stock management database system (sales / purchases) what would be the best way to store the various taxes and other such amounts? A few of the fields that could be saved are: Unit price excluding tax Unit price including tax Tax per item Total excluding tax (rounded to 2 decimals) Total including tax (rounded to 2 decimals) Total tax (rounded to 2 decimals) Currently the most reasonable solution so far is storing down (roughly) item, quantity, total excluding tax (rounded) and the total tax (rounded). Can anyone suggest some better way of storing this details for a generic system? Also, given the system needs to be robust, what should be done if there were multiple tax values (eg: state and city) which might need to be separated, in this case a separate table would be in order, but would it be considered excessive to just have a rowID and some taxID mapping to a totalTax column?

• How to find NSOutlineView row index when using NSTreeController

  I'm using an NSTreeController to manage nodes for an NSOutlineView. This seems logical: NSInteger row = [entityCollectionOutlineView rowForItem:newNode]; [entityCollectionOutlineView editColumn:0 row:row withEvent:nil select:YES]; However, row is always -1 indicating the object isn't found. Poking around reveals that the tree controller is not actually putting my objects directly in the tree, but is wrapping them in a node object of its own. Anyone have insight into how I would go about getting a row index relative to the outline view, so I can do this (without, hopefully, enumerating everything in the outline view and figuring out the mapping back to my node?)

• swf file upload control not filtering the files for the second time

  iam using swf file upload control in my application developed in asp.net & c#.net. i am having a dropdown box with file types like jpeg,.xls ,.txt etc. so when i select particular file type in the dropdown and clicking on the button would open a filedialog showing only the files of the type selected in the dropdown. The problem is that when i select "jpeg" for the first time file dialog shows only jpeg files. when i select ".xls" next time it shows again the prevoiusly selected jpeg files and not currently selected ".xls". but while debugging it was found the file type definition in the swf code has been changed to .xls . can any one guide why the file upload control not mapping the selected file for the second time

• Is it possible to build a JPA entity by extending a POJO?

  Lets say I have the following POJO: public class MyThing { private int myNumber; private String myData; //assume getter/setter methods } Is it now possible to extend this POJO as a JPA entity? @Entity @Table(name = "my_thing") public class MyThingEntity extends MyThing implements Serializable { @Column(name = "my_number") //????????? @Column(name = "my_data") //???????? } I want to keep the POJO separate from the JPA entity. The POJO lives in a different project and is often used without a persistence layer, my project wants to persist it in a database and do so without the overhead of mapping from a POJO to an entity and back. I understand that JPA entities are POJOs, but in order to use it I would have to include a library that implements javax.persistence and the other projects using the same base object have no use for a persistence layer. Is this possible? Is this a good idea?

• Is testability alone justification for dependency injection?

  The advantages of DI, as far as I am aware, are: Reduced Dependencies More Reusable Code More Testable Code More Readable Code Say I have a repository, OrderRepository, which acts as a repository for an Order object generated through a Linq to Sql dbml. I can't make my orders repository generic as it performs mapping between the Linq Order entity and my own Order POCO domain class. Since the OrderRepository by necessity is dependent on a specific Linq to Sql DataContext, parameter passing of the DataContext can't really be said to make the code reuseable or reduce dependencies in any meaningful way. It also makes the code harder to read, as to instantiate the repository I now need to write new OrdersRepository(new MyLinqDataContext()) which additionally is contrary to the main purpose of the repository, that being to abstract/hide the existence of the DataContext from consuming code. So in general I think this would be a pretty horrible design, but it would give the benefit of facilitating unit testing. Is this enough justification? Or is there a third way? I'd be very interested in hearing opinions.

  I'm having a problem in mapping an existing data class member to the database.. I have a database table where one of the columns is a string type, but actually stores a comma separated list of numbers. My data class shows this field as a list of integers. The problem is that I couldn't find any hook in NHibernate that allows me to invoke the custom code that is required to replace the string field by the list and vice versa. To illustrate (simplified of course): The database table: CREATE TABLE dummy ( id serial, numlist text -- (can store values such as '1,2,3') ) The data class: class Dummy { public int Id; public List<int> NumbersList; } Can anyone help?

• With VIM, use both snipMate and pydiction together (share the <tab> key?)

  I am trying to use snipMate and pydiction in vim together - however, both use the <tab> key to perform their genius-auto-completion-snippet-rendering-goodness-that-I-so-desire. When pydiction is installed, snipMate stops working. I assume its because they can't both own the <tab> key. How can I get them to work together? I wouldn't mind mapping one of them to a different key, but I am not really sure how to do this ... (maybe pydiction to the <ctrl-n> key so it mimics vim's autocomplete?). • Use only some parts of Django?

  I like Django, but for a particular application I would like to use only parts of it, but I'm not familiar enough with how Django works on the inside, so maybe someone can point me into the right direction as to what I have to check out. Specifically, I want to use: The models and database abstraction The caching API, although I want to avoid database lookups by caching, not HTML generation, and since the caching framework in Django is intended for the latter, I'm not sure yet whether that's really appropriate. I would not use: Templating urlconfigs Or, more exactly, I'm neither using HTTP nor HTML. So basically, I have a different input / output chain than usual. Can this work? My personal killer feature in Django is the Object / database mapping that I can do with the models, so if there's another technology (doesn't have to be Python, I'm in the design phase and I'm pretty agnostic about languages and platforms) that gives me the same abilities, that would be great, too.

  I'm working on an embedded system which is going to be booting and hosting it's rootfs on an SSD disk. We are currently looking at using Intel X-18M SSDs. The file system structure will have a fairly static /usr section (modulo software upgrades) and an active /var and /var/log for maintaining state and logging. Given the wear-levelling done by the underlying flash does having separate partitions help or hinder? As modern SSDs appear as straight block devices and hide their mapping magic behind their firmware is there any point trying to optimise the choice of file-system that sits on-top of the SSD? Finally does enable SMART monitoring make any sense in this context or are their SSD specific ways of determining the underlying health of the storage hardware?

It seems hibernate and stored procedures will overlap, We set up the stored procedure because we don't want the to developer know all the field in db. If tables change, then we need update above files. Does it mean if we purely use stored procedure, we should just go for JDBC? If hibernate, we should stay in HQL?

  I have two objects that have a ManyToMany relationship with one another through a mapping table. Though, when I try to save it, I get a stack overflow exception.   Hi, In my Grails app, I'm using the Searchable plugin for searching/indexing. I want to write a Compass/Lucene query that involves multiple domain classes. Within that query when I want to refer to the id of a class, I can't simply use 'id' because all classes have an 'id' property. Currently, I work around this problem by adding the following property to a class Foo public Long getFooId() { return id } static transients = ['fooId'] Then when I want to refer to the id of Foo within a query I use 'fooId'. Is there a way I can provide an alias for a property in the searchable mapping rather than adding a property to the class?

• Problems with ASP.NET State Service version; state service is 1.1, website is 3.5

  Hi there, I have a ASP.NET 3.5 website running on Windows Server 2003 and I'm using the ASP.NET State Service to manage sessions. It will appear to be working then I regularly get an error saying my code needs to have version 2.0 of the State Service running to work (I think that's what it said, I've temporarily switched back to storing sessions InProc). Refresh the page and the error goes away (for a bit, it's bound to come back). So I looked at the properties of the ASP.NET State Service in the Services interface and it's mapping to a .exe in the 1.1 framework folder: C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\aspnet_state.exe There's a corresponding version in the 2.0 framework folder, but I don't know how to add it as a new service. I'm also not sure that adding the 2.0 version (and stopping and/or removing the 1.1 version) will solve the problem. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide. Mick

• Mapped Stored Procedures in EF 1

  All, I'm using mapped Stored Procedures in EF 1. I've completed the following steps: 1) I've created my INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE queries in SQL Server. 2) I've built the EDMX and imported the INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE sprocs as part of my model. 3) I've set up a Stored Procedure Mapping on a table inside of my EDMX file. The INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE sprocs were mapped accordingly. Using this approach, I would expect to rebuild the application (and mine builds successfully) and then see the Stored Procedures as available function names via my EDMX object, such as: _entities.InsertComment(..), _entities.UpdateComment(..), and _entities.DeleteComment(..) Intellisense is not picking these names up and I can't figure out why. If I perform these same steps using EF4, the function names are automatically picked up by Intellisense after adding the Stored Procedure Mappings. Is this a bug in EF1? I am not that good in hibernate Part of the Mapping File <property name="DateOfBirth" type="java.util.Date"> <column name="DATEOFBIRTH" /> </property> I am using GWT Date picker Short date format i.e. yyyy-MM-dd. I am getting the value from the date picker using View.getUserDateOfBirth().getValue() But when I am saving the date 2010-11-30 into the datebase it is saving it as 2010-11-30 00:00:00 instead of 2010-11-30 So, I want it to be saved in the database as in this format 2010-11-30?? I have many things such timestamp but i not being able to configure it. I think this part <property name="DateOfBirth" type="java.util.Date"> <column name="DATEOFBIRTH" /> </property> should be changed but I do not know what to change

I wanted to create a simple program which will set a pattern for my bigger project but it is taking quite a lot of time than expected. It would be rally helpful if you can explain in simple terms on any template/pattern that i can use to get fluent nHibernate working. The above code uses auto mapping, which i tried after i tried with fluent mapping.

What am I doing wrong ? I use a PostGreSQL database and a Hibernate as JPA provider.
