  • Action(Of T) in Visual Basic in List(Of T).ForEach

    I have searched high and low for documentation on how to use this feature. While the loop I could write would be simple and take no time, I really would like to learn how to use this. Basically I have a class, say, Widget, with a Save() sub that returns nothing. So: Dim w as New Widget() w.Save() basically saves the widget. Now let's say I have a generic collection List(Of Widget) name widgetList(Of Widget) and I want to run a Save() on each item in that list. It says I can do a widgetList.ForEach([enter Action(Of T) here]) ....but how in the F does this work??? There is no documentation anywhere on the intrablags. Help would be much much appreciated.

    In my bash script I have two variables 'CONFIG_OPTION' and 'CONFIG_VALUE' which contain string VENDOR_NAME and Default_Vendor respectively. I need to create a variable with name '$CONFIG_OPTION' ie VENDOR_NAME and assign the value in CONFIG_VALUE to newly created variable. How I can do this? I tried $CONFIG_OPTION=$CONFIG_VALUE But I am getting an error on this line as './Build.bash: line 137: VENDOR_NAME="Default_Vendor": command not found' Thanks.

  • Truncating a file while it's being used (Linux)

    I have a process that's writing a lot of data to stdout, which I'm redirecting to a log file. I'd like to limit the size of the file by occasionally copying the current file to a new name and truncating it. My usual techniques of truncating a file, like cp /dev/null file don't work, presumably because the process is using it. Is there some way I can truncate the file? Or delete it and somehow associate the process' stdout with a new file? FWIW, it's a third party product that I can't modify to change its logging model. EDIT redirecting over the file seems to have the same issue as the copy above - the file returns to its previous size next time it's written to: ls -l sample.log ; echo > sample.log ; ls -l sample.log ; sleep 10 ; ls -l sample.log -rw-rw-r-- 1 user group 1291999 Jun 11 2009 sample.log -rw-rw-r-- 1 user group 1 Jun 11 2009 sample.log -rw-rw-r-- 1 user group 1292311 Jun 11 2009 sample.log

    I'm trying to use linux elinks text browser to go to a website. This site requires http authentication. If I press escape it and hide the login prompt once and then If I try to go the particular website again it doesn't show the login prompt again. I try "flush all caches" But it doesn't work until I close my terminal and get a new one. Is there any other way to get over with this? This should be a simple question. But I googled and couldn't find a answer.

  • monitor and kill runaway processes using 100% IO?

    Hello everyone, i have a few processes that have to be run at high priority (chrt 98) that will occasionally decide to hard-lock and peg 1 core at 100% (not a huge deal) but more importantly it will use all the IO on a system, so much that its impossible to log into the machine via ssh to kill it or perform any task on the machine that isn't loaded into ram. If i happen to have something like htop already running i am able to end the process fine. Is there any type of utility/way to monitor for this type of runaway process and kill anything that uses 100% of system IO for more than X amount of time? Thanks!

  • SIMPLEST way to set up password protection for a static site, with basic admin UI?

    I have a static site. I would like the simplest approach to password protecting a directory, with a basic admin UI for adding/removing users. I will have so few users that I don't care about performance. I don't care if it's PHP or Django or whatever, I just want a complete software package. Apache basic auth isn't good, because you can't log out. Nor is there a UI for adding users. I tried throwing everything behind Django auth and serving the files through Django. However, Chrome treats all my text/css headers as text/plain, so I don't get any stylesheets showing. I can't use mod_xsendfile on my server because I can't reconfigure Apache to add new modules. I think this approach is overkill anyway. I can try configuring Nginx's X-Accel-Redirect, however that requires implementing all the Django code for auth myself, and I'd prefer an existing solution. However, this is my backup plan. Is there a code package that implements authentication with basic admin for a static site?

  • Open source app to manage and run commands on cloud servers? [closed]

    I'm creating a SaaS platform, and I need a component / library that can create, delete and store the connection details for cloud servers. It also needs to support executing shell commands on these servers and returning the response to the caller. I want a central database of servers and their configuration, plus the ability to reach out and manage the servers via SSH execution of bash scripts. I don't want something that needs agents on every server like Chef. For example, this command is received by the hypothetical application: CREATE USER server = server12345 name = myuser It's translated into the following set of actions and executed by the app, which knows how to connect to server12345, and how to create a user on that server: $ ssh root@server12345 $ adduser myuser And returns the output from the shell: Added user myuser. I've done research on Google and can't quite quite find something that does this already. I've found: fabric This part handles the executing of the shell commands very elegantly, and can take multiple server definitions, but it's supposed to be a deployment tool so doesn't do everything that would be required above - for example, it doesn't have a daemon mode where it listens for commands - it expects to be executed on the shell. It also can't provide the central database functionality. libcloud This library can handle the server admin (CRUD) part, but doesn't have a command interface daemon either, and doesn't let you execute commands on the servers. I guess I need something that is a combination of libcloud, fabric and django for an API. Or something else that does that same thing regardless of language. Overmind Overmind is a GUI and wrapper around libcloud, but doesn't support the command execution part. What am I missing here?

    Hi, my name is Dr. Kleiner, and I'm a senior scientist working at the Black Mesa Research Facility. I've just finished compiling my code to analyse a large unknown sample we've come across. Unfortunately, there were 19 build errors and 42 warnings, but I've been told the experiment must go ahead. Time is critical, we've already got one of our newest employees who is suiting up as I type this to complete the experiment. I really need some help. Can you think of anything last minute to stop a potential resonance cascade? Someone has hidden my glasses again... Anyway, I hope I never see a resonance cascade, and definitely don't want to create one. It's my lunch break in 5 minutes, and my casserole is already in the microwave ready. Now, I would like to completely restore the previously saved state from 'test.ser', but seem to have a misconception of how to properly deserialize an objects state. The class MyFrame creates the JFrame and serializes it.     Hi all. I have a contact manager program that I'd like to design for multiple network marketing companies. My desired structure would include a core program which covers basic contact management functions. After that one could purchase a module for their specific network marketing company. This module would contain a variety of controls that the original program would need to be able to manipulate. Here is an example of what it would have to have: A group box containing buttons that link to a genealogy view, and the option to import one's donwnline from the back office provided by a company. A panel which is displayed on the contact page allowing the user to input business information or which will be filled by importing a downline from the back office: ie business ID, qualification level, sponsor information etc. a panel displayed when one searches for contacts on the contact list page which allows the user to sort based on information such as when they joined, what their business id is and so forth. a panel which is displayed in a personal business overview page which presents to an individual how many people in their downline are at each qualification level and develop a mailing list for individuals of a certain qualification level. I have the code developed to perform all these functions, I just wanted to give you an example of what needed to be done. I'm thinking that what I'm trying to create is a library that one can download and the program will recognize, but I'm not really sure where to go. What I'm really trying to do is figure out what kind of file I can make that will contain all this code and the GUI information that the program will recognize. Any ideas? With thanks, John

  • What is the "right" way to make a modular ASP.NET page?

    Hi, I'm writing an internal program using ASP.NET (Visual Studio 2008). The basic premise is that folks will connect to the page through their web browser, put in some data (which will be validated and sanitized of course), click "submit" and then a query will be run on a database. I told you that story so I can tell you this story - I want to make my program modular for the likelihood that this program will be updated later on, and probably extended. My initial thought is to compile the database handler as a dll and then use its functionality on my page (see my little diagram). But I can't figure out how to hook the dll into my page - My Google-fu has failed which leads me to my questions: 1) Is creating a dll the "right" solution? If so, continue to question 2, if not, what should I be doing? Any resources/tutorial links would be appreciated. 2) How do I attach a dll? Visual Studio tells me I can't Imports from an .aspx page, and I've tried <%@ Import namespace="MyDllName" % and a few other variations, none of which worked. Thanks!

  • Is there a way to submit a batch of commands to a Cisco router and have them execute from the router?

    I need to change the configuration of a remote (6 hours' drive) client's Cisco 871 (IOS 12.4.15T) from my location because of some new internet service at his location. To be more precise, I need to change the default route, ip address of the outside interface (Fa4) and disable the PPPoE setup there. Unfortunately, doing any of this will (obviously) break the connection to the router. I do not have an out-of-band management modem set up (I know, I know). Is there any way to enter the commands I need to have run and have them execute one after the other, from a file on flash:? I have never tried anything like that before. Essentially a DOS-style batch file is exactly what I need. Nothing like it seems to be out there except using kron to execute CLI commands, but that is specified here as only taking EXEC commands, not configuration ones. Is there hope, or do I travel?

  • Is it normal to sometimes take a while to get even basic things working in software development?

    This is a little hard to explain because it's a really generic question, but bear with me... I find that when I am doing or recreating basic things from scratch (i.e. without the help of libraries), sometimes it feels as though I'm taking much more time to do the task than is actually needed. I am not new to programming or development & design concepts and have worked extensively with around 9 languages and various platforms and paradigms over 5/6 years. Although I don't yet have any academic qualification for programming and have learned almost exclusively from the Internet, I have been told that the quality of my code is excellent by those with qualifications. So, I don't think I'm a bad programmer because I really love doing it and working with software architecture, but maybe I'm slow? Or is it normal to take sometimes longer than it seems necessary to do basic tasks?

    I know many programming languages ,skills and concepts in very basic, such as PHP, Java, Object-oriented technology. Using PHP, I can build a simple website with CRUD, login function. Using Java, I can make an basic swing csv/plain text editor in which user can switch between 2 different views. In term of object-oriented Technology, I clearly understand what encapsulation, inheritance and Polymorphism are I want to know more about programming. Sometimes I "google" some of the topics I am interested at , the more I see on the internet, the more I feel I am a small potato in the world ( indeed I am ). The codings/concepts are difficult to understand. I lacks confidence right now so I am asking this question :( What is the best way to learn programming to advanced level? Just buy a book and read it page to page? Thanks for any helps
