• Can't access individual samba shares

  I've just installed CentOS and I'm configuring Samba. I have a share with the following in the smb.conf file: [storage] comment = Main storage for all use path = /share public = yes browseable = yes writable = yes printable = no write list = bob root create mask = 0775 guest ok = yes available = yes In Windows Explorer, I can reach the page listing all the shares on the server, but I click on the shares themselves, I get an error saying that the folder cannot be found. I have verified that the folder /share exists and I've also given it 777 permissions so it cannot be due to permissions. What is causing this? I can post more config files if necessary.

• RabbitMQ message broker unable to open unused port 61613

  On a Windows Vista system, RabbitMQ fails to open port 61613 which is not used (as netstat and TCPView show). The server log indicates that it is possible to bind port 5672, but the next lines show the problem with port 61613. I have cleared all firewall settings and rebooted. Several times in the past this helped to solve the problem. • Setting a Static IP Running FreeBSD8 in VirtualBox hosted on Windows 7

  I'm using VirtualBox on Windows 7 (host) to run a FreeBSD (guest) based web server. I`ve assigned a static ip of 192.168.80. 1 to the (virtualized) NIC which is run in bridged mode. The problem is that when I ping an external server (such as google.com) I get a No route to host error: dimetro# ping google.com PING google.com (66.249.90.104): 56 data bytes ping: sendto: No route to host ... I can ping the BSD server from both another virtualized machine and my host machine and from the server, I can ping everything on the network. The router ip is 192.168.1.1/16. ADDENDUM: I have the following lines in /etc/rc.conf on the BSD VM to configure networking: defaultrouter="192.168.1.1" ifconfig_em0="inet 192.168.80.1 netmask 255.255.0.0"

This system will be dedicated to running multiple virtual machines under VMware Workstation (Note: I'm not using ESXi because I do plan to use the system for other purposes.). For the host OS, I plan to install RHEL 5. My number one concern is guest performance. For example, should I create a RAID 10 array for the OS and virtual machine storage with four of the drives and reserve the 5th? Or, is there a solution that will provide better performance?

• Mac OS X Server 10.6.6 "disables" CPU in VMware Fusion

  Hello! I installed Mac OS X Server 10.6.0 in VMWare Fusion the other night and it worked perfectly, until I ran Software Update. I upgraded to 10.6.6 through the combo updater, and now when I start the VM it says: "The CPU has been disabled by the guest operating system. You will need to power off or reset the virtual machine at this point." I've switched the operating system in the options to OS X Server 32bit, 64bit, and even to Windows 7, and nothing has worked. Does anyone have any ideas?

• suddenly can't connect to windows 7 pc from xbmc

  I have xbmc installed on a softmodded classic xbox and all of a sudden I cannot connect to the shared folders on my windows 7 PC. Well, it can connect but it wants a username and password, but none exist on my computer. It's been several weeks since I last used it, but it was working fine then! and no particular changes I can think of aside from I guess a few windows updates. I've seen reference online to windows live essentials causing issues with file sharing, but I don't even have that installed. And I made sure to tick 'turn off password protected sharing' in my advanced network setup. I had the guest account turned off and working fine before, and tried turning it on but no luck. I can access my shared folders fine from other Computers and a ps3. I've read a couple threads of similar situations on various folders and none of their solutions have worked.

  I was wondering how one can add a drive into an existing RAID array while ESXi is still running. I have read that you are able to use Dell OpenManage to do this. I have installed OMSA 7.0 on the VMWare ESXi host (5.0 and fully updated) and I've installed OpenManage Essentials on a Windows Server 2008 R2 guest. The issue that I'm having is that OpenManage is unable to see my RAID controller. I have seen videos and photos as parts of guides on how to do this online, so I would assume that the functionality exists and I just have it set up wrong.

• XCP vm created via xl create doesn't show up in Xencenter neither in xe vm-list

• How do I get around "Access is Denied" [Number: 5 (0x80070005)], with IIS6/FastCGI and PHP 5.2.3?

  I'm getting this error with IIS 6.0 (i assume), and PHP 5.2.3, and FastCGI FastCGI Error The FastCGI Handler was unable to process the request. Error Details: Error Number: 5 (0x80070005). Internet Information Services (IIS) Any ideas, nothing revealings in logs (other than 500 errors), this is pretty much all of I have to work with. The script has read and execute privileged for the internet guest account; and, I've added read/execute privileges to the whole D:\PHP. • How to synchronize two folders on two remote Linux virtual machines

  I have two virtual machines, Host OS is ESXi 3.5 and guest OS is Centos 4.6. There are two ESXi servers remotely located, each containing a Centos 4.6 virtual machine. I wish, whatever change I make in any file/folder in one virtual machine should be automatically synchronized on other remote virtual machine. The synchronization process should be automatic. It should only sync differentials, not simulate entire copy with overwrite operation. Sync should be intelligent enough to look for what has changed and what not, and should only update the changed files/folders. Further, there should be some sort of overview and selection for syncing, for example, if it shows 4 files have changed, It should be possible to sync only two files and leave other two for the time being. So, some intelligent syncing mechanism for Linux is needed.

• VMWare and ALT GR key results in missing characters

  For some odd reason WMware products hijack the AltGy-key despite I make sure that other keys are used as hot keys to release mouse and keyboard from the virtual machine. While this is not a problem for US keyboards, european however who extensively use AltGR for characters such as pipe (|), at-sign (@), left brace ({) and right brace (}). This seem to happen both in Windows and Linux and I can not seem to find a solution that works for both. :( Anyone have an idea how to fix this without the need to modify the guest OS every time? • Full screen not available in vmplayer 6 (on Linux)

  I recently updated vmware player from 5.0.2 to 6.0.0, and now the "full screen" menu item is always grayed out. It happens with all my VMs, regardless of the guest OS. "Enter Unity" is still available for some reason. When I edit a VM to start up in full screen it works, but once I leave full screen I can't go back, which is really annoying. I've no clue where to start looking for the cause. I'm seeing this on Ubuntu 13.04 and OpenSUSE 12.3.

  I am setting OpenVPN up, and I'm in the state of adding users. Details: Host System: Windows Server 2003 32-bit. Guest System: Ubuntu Linux (with OpenVPN installed already), actually I downloaded it from OpenVPN.Net. Virtualization: VMWare v7.0 Problem: I can access the Access Server web portal (on the port 5480), but when I login to http://host_ip:943/admin and enter my (correct) login info, it shows me a page saying that "You don't have enough permissions". I am the (root) user!!!! that is really weird!!! Note: if I enter wrong login it will denote an incorrect login, this means that I am logging in successfully but the problem comes after the login process. What I tried: I tried to create another user after (root) logging in to Linux Bash using (useradd) command, but the same resulted.

• No Internet for Created VLan on Cisco CE500

  I'm new here and also with networking but i can't set internet conection for some vlan created. I have a Cisco CE500 switch and created 4 vlans define by the roles in the switch. Vlan 2: Servers (role) (port 3-4) Vlan 3: Desktop (role) (port 5-8) Vlan 4: Guest (role) (port 9-12) Vlan 1 is default, Connect to the ADSL Modem/Router Port 2 assign to the Router Role (vlan 1) The switch is connected on port2 the ADSL Modem (DHCP) 192.168.2.254 The goal is: All Vlan should have internet connection. • Can KVM roll back changes to Virtual Disks automatically?

  I'm currently using VirtualBox on my Linux server to run a small Windows guest OS. I've configured its main virtual hard drive as what VBox calls "Immutable" - meaning that any changes to it are written into a differencing image that is discarded when the system reboots. Can KVM do something similar? I've read about snapshots via "savevm", "loadvm" but I believe that's saved states, not differencing images. What I ultimately want is a VM with two drives: one reverts on each reboot, one keeps its changes. Ideally, the unchangeable drive image should be stored with only read access granted to the user running KVM.

• Virtual PC 2007 Full Screen Resolution

  I have a laptop (1440 x 900) and an external monitor (1920 x 1200), and I'm running Virtual PC 2007. Initially, my VPC could not switch to fullscreen mode on my external monitor because the max resolution for VPC was only 1600 x 1200. I installed a hotfix (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958162) and after the hotfix, I was able to view VPC in fullscreen mode on my external monitor, but now I'm unable to view fullscreen on my laptop. It says "please check that the resolution of the guest is not higher than that of the host". I even tried to decrease the resolution of my Virtual PC to less than than of my laptop, but it always resets it back up. So now after the hotfix, I can view fullscreen mode only when my external monitor is plugged in. Any way I can resolve this?

  I have installed XP in a virtual machine running on Linux with QEMU/KVM (qemu-kvm-0.11.0-4.5.2). I export my Linux webcam to KVM using the switches "-usb -usbdevice host:046d:0929". The XP guest sees the webcam and the drivers install, but the camera only shows a black image. When I open the camera in Windows Explorer, it says "0 images" and a black image, while on a real XP, it says "1 image" and shows the video from the camera. I tried the same with a different webcam, but the result is the same. Any ideas what might be wrong or how I could debug this ?

  What are my options to forward two USB connected phones to xen guest? I've read about PCI-passthrough http://www.wlug.org.nz/XenPciPassthrough, but I'm sure usb controller in the server isn't a pci card. There's device level forwarding, but I need to forward two devices, this here doesn't say how to do it: http://www.olivetalks.com/2008/02/03/usb-forwarding-on-xen-it-just-does-not-work/ Would something as simple as: usbdevice = [ 'host:xxx', 'host:yyy', ] work? • Hyper-v vs Virtualbox

  I am using Oracle VirtualBox for ubuntu guest virtual servers on windows server 2008 R2. I'm in a plan to migrate(stop using virtualbox) from VirtualBox to Hyper-V. I guess many are using hyper-v virtualization and have good control over it and could help me here in clarifying few things. The reason I use Virtualbox is it's open source and the reason for migrating is that if hyper-v support any additional feature which virtualbox doesn't(and I couldn't migrate VBox vms along with all the snapshots). I have following questions to get it clarified. Does hyper-v require any licence or is limited to running particular number of virtual machines?. Is hyper-v capable to export/import VMs along with all the snapshots? Is it possible to run HeadLess VMs like it's done with VirtualBox? Does hyper-v recognize VDI/VMDK? Anybody can suggest me anything?. Thanks!

• Unusable Source for Ubuntu image on Xen 3

  Hi all, I'm trying to create a new VM in Xen 3, running Ubuntu 10.4 (32 bit) as the guest OS. Xen 3 is installed on a machine running OpenSuse 11.2. I downloaded the Ubuntu image from the ubuntu.com website and I mounted it on /dev/loop0. When I try to create the new VM in Xen with the given source, Xen complains the "source is unusable". I've also checked the md5 sum for the image. It's fine. Any suggestion or hint that could help me?

• Workstation 7 build 203739 - Capture Movie Mouse Pointer Not Visible

  Hi, I have noticed that whenever I create a Capture Movie, the movie is fine but the mouse pointer is not visible at all. The clicks are on buttons file menus are executed but is hard for a viewer of the capturre movie session to follow the recording smoothly. This was not a problem in previous versions of WorkStation. Is this a bug or is there a setting I can set to see the mouse pointer? Note: VM Tools are installed, Host is Vista Ultimate Edtion SP1, x64 and the guest is a Win XP SP2. • My WD passport detected but not shown on my computer

  1TB WD harddisk is detected in laptop but drives not visible on my computer. Under disk managment drives shown without letters. Right clicking on these drives give 2 options: Delete volume Help. The same harddisk was running well on the same laptop a day before. It is also showing full size of hard drives, Healthy (Primary Partition) etc. (this happened after harddisk usage by guest). Harddisk is new only (about 5 month usage) Please suggest: Is there hardware related problem inside harddisk, if so is it repairable? Is there any option to recover data?
