• wrong data type in mysql for grails byte[] property

  Hi, I have an application which is trying to save a photo to the database. I've created a grails domain class with a byte[] property and this was working well when using HSQLDB (the default in grails). However, when I changed the database to MySQL I ended up getting the following error: Data truncation: Data too long for column 'photo' at row 1 I then had a look at the schema and found that the byte[] was being created as a TINYBLOB field, which was causing the error. How can I specify that this property should correspond to a BLOB/LONGBLOB type in the database?

• Cocoa Launch agent registering itself after installation.

  I have created Cocoa app which is type of launch agent. To distribute this I have created package as well which installs the app and copies the launchagnet plist file in /Libraries/LaunchAgents. Now the problem is after installation i want this app to be running in user context immediately without logoff/restart. If I register this with "launchctl" from installer, using post install script, it run in root context, as installer is running in root context. Any suggestion how the agent registers itself to launchctl and runs in user context.

• Python extension building with boost

  Hey guys I'm fairly new to boost c/c++ library. I downloaded boost library and build the library. I created a very simple python library in c++ using boost interface (actually it is example code given in the documentation). I built it into a dll file. In the documentation it reads that this dll is exposed to python and they just show the import function in python and include the created library. I don't understand how to expose that dll to python and load the library inside in tradition ('import') manner.   Hello, I'm creating a database with Access. This is just a test database, similar to my requirements, so I can get my skills up before creating one for work. I've created a database for a fictional school as this is a good playground and rich data (many students have many subjects have many teachers, etc). Question 1 What is the difference, if any, between using a Lookup column and a many-to-many associate table? Example: I have Tables 'Teacher' and 'Subject'. Many teachers have many subjects. I can, and have, created a table 'Teacher_Subject' and run queries with this. I have then created a lookup column in teachers table with data from subjects. The lookup column seems to take the place of the teacher_subject table. (though the data on relationships is obviously duplicated between lookup table and teacher_subject and may vary). Which one is the 'better' option? Is there a snag with using lookup tables? (I realize that this is a very 'general' question. Links to other resources and answers saying 'that depends...' are appreciated) Question 2 What attracts me to lookup tables is the following: When creating a form for entering subjects for teachers, with lookup I can simply create checkboxes and click a subject for a teacher 'on' or 'off'. Each click on/off creates/removes a record in the lookup column (which replaces teacher_subject). If I use a form from a query from teacher subject with teacher as main form and subject as subform I run into this problem: In the subform I can either select each subject that teacher has in a bombo box, i.e. click, scroll down, select, go to next row, click, scroll down, etc. (takes too long) OR I can create a list box listing all available subjects in each row but allowing me to select only one. (takes up too much space). Is it possible to have a click on/off list box for teacher_subject, creating/removing a record there with each click? Note - I know zero SQL or VB. If the correct answer is "you need to know SQL for this" then that's cool. I just need to know. Thanks!

I need to know the number of users created for a given date range. Let's say I ask give me user report between 1-nov-2010 and 30-nov-2010 . I need something like this 1-nov-2010: 2 2-nov-2010: 5 The problem I am running into is that created_at data has value upto second. How do I check if a created_at date falls within a given date.   In my system, I create a custom audience - data file - mobile advertiser ids with 10k user. Please try uploading the file again." } But after about 10s, I refresh again, and operation_status change to: "operation_status": { "code": 200, "description": "Normal" } My quetions is: how to check this audience's status is waiting ( uploading file) , like when I create on facebook not my our system. • OOP question about functions that struck me all of a sudden.

  Hello, May be my question is stupid. But i would like to get it cleared. We know that functions are loaded in memory only once and when you create new objects, only instance variables gets created, functions are never created. My question is, say suppose there is server and all clients access a method named createCustomer(). Say suppose all clients do something which fired createCustomer on server. So, if the method is in middle of execution and new client fires it. Will the new request be put on wait? or new request also will start executing the method? How does it all get managed when there is only one copy of function in memory? No book mentions answers to this type of questions. So i am posting here where i am bound to get answers :).

• Objective C instance variables - Newbie

  OK - so I'm sure my confusion here is just a result of being stuck in a "Java mindset" and not understanding how Obj C differs in this case. In Java, I can declare a variable in a class, like this, and each instance of that class will have it's own: MyClass { String myVar; MyClass() { // constructor } } In Obj C I tried to do the same thing by declaring a variable only in the .m file like this: #import "MyClass.h" @implementation MyClass NSString *testVar; @end My expectation here was that this variable has a scope limited to this class. So I created a second class (identical): #import "MySecondClass.h" @implementation MySecondClass NSString *testVar; @end What I'm seeing (and has me baffled) is that changing the variable in one class, affects the value seen in the other class. In fact, if I set a breakpoint, and then "Jump to Definition" of the variable, it takes me to th I've created an extremely small XCode project that demonstrates the problem here Nothing more humbling than moving to a new language :) Thanks in advance.

  What I am trying to accomplish: 10 percent increase scale transformation of a rectangle via Silverlight storyboard animation. What I currently doing: While in Expression Blend 3, I created a rectangle, created a storyboard, and created the scale transformation. The preview looked correct because the increase in scale begins in the middle of the object. When I run the project the scale transformation begins at the top left. Is there some piece of code missing?   In my SQL Server 2005 server I create databases and logins using Management Studio. My application requires that I give a newly created user read and write permissions to another database. To do this I right-click the newly created login, select properties and go to User Mapping. I put a check beside the database to map this login to the db and select db_datareader and db_datawriter as the roles to map. Can this be done programmatically? I've read about using Alter User and sp_change_users_login but I'm having problems getting these to work, since sp_change_users_login has been deprecated so I'd prefer to use Alter User. Please note my understanding of SQL Server database users/logins/roles is basic

• MySQL Hibernate sort on 2 columns

  I have a table as follows Table item { ID - Primary Key content - String published_date - When the content was published create_date - When this database entry was created } Every hour (or specified time interval) I run a process to update this table with data from different sources (websites). I want to display the results according to the following rules. 1. The entries created each time the process runs should be grouped together. So the entries from the 2nd process run will always be after the entries from the first process run even if the published_date of an entry from the first run is after the published_date of an entry from the 2nd run. 2. Within the grouping by run, the entries by sorted by published_date 3. Another restriction is that I prefer that data from the same source not be grouped together. If I do the sort by create_date, published_date I will end up with data from source a, data from source b etc. I prefer that the data within each hour be mixed up for better presentation If I add a column to this table and store a counter which increments each time the process is run, it is possible to create a query to sort first by counter and then by published_dt. Is there a way to do it without adding a field? I'm using Hibernate over MySQL. e.g. Hour 1 (run 1) 4 rows collected from site a (rows 1-4) 3 rows collected from site b (rows 5-7) hour 2 (run 2) 2 row collected from site a (rows 8-9) 3 rows collected from site b (rows 10-12) ... After each run, new records are added to the database from each website. The create date is the time when the record was created in the database. The published date is part of the content and is read in from the external source. When the results are displayed I would like rows to be grouped together based on the hour they were published in. So rows 1-7 would be displayed before rows 8-12. Within each hourly grouping, I would like to sort the results by published date (timestamp). This is necessary so that the posts from all the sites collected in that hour are not grouped together but rather mixed in with each other.

  Hi, I’m working on tuning and increasing the performance of my IBM DB2 version 9.7 database. I’ve been searching around the net for the last couple of days and learned that if I created my tables in COMPRESS mode and created one more bufferpool and set both of them to access 1024mb, then the performance in my queries should increase because of the less I/Os to the disks. However, when I run my time analysis, the performance Decrease. I added the new additions to my regular database with the indexes I’ve used all the time. Each time I search google I come up with the statement that: Increased bufferpool size and several bufferpools AND a table compression SHOULD prove to get better performance. I’m very puzzled about the total unexpected result. Are there some tuning mechanisms I’ve forgot or does anyone have a explanation for this odd behavior? Sincerely Mestika

Now, I don't understand how (or, more appropriately, when) the target windows procedure is called. Of course the target thread will not be preempted (the program counter is not changed). I presume that the call will happen during some wait function (like GetMessage or PeekMessage), it is true? That process is documented in detail somewhere?

• Is there a standardized (Meta?) Tag for the Date of a Website?

  One thing that search engines really suck with is the date when a website was created. You know the problem: You search for some CSS or JavaScript problem and Google returns a ton of results from 2002 explaining how to fix the problem in IE 5.5 and Netscape 4.6 while the helpful articles are buried on Page 3. There is only one use for Page 3, and meaningful search results are not it. Anyway, I just wonder if there is a standardized or at least generally accepted tag or meta tag that I can put on my own pages to indicate the date they were created? Not that it helps filtering out the old crap out of search results (especially since the people at #1 with their 2002 articles have zero incentive to change), but I'd just like to do my part :P

  I'd like to use FactoryBeans and scopes together. Specifically, I'd like the object created and returned by a FactoryBean to be placed into a specified (perhaps custom) scope. The issue is that doing the following: <bean class="x.y.z.TestFactoryBean" scope="test" /> Results in the FactoryBean itself being scoped, and has somewhat unpredictable behaviour on the object created by the factory. I understand why this is; the factory itself is a first-class spring-managed bean, and has its own lifecycle. However, I can't find a way to specify that the object returned from the factory should itself be scoped. On the other hand, this does exactly what I want (as long as TestFactoryBean does NOT implement the FactoryBean interface): <bean class="x.y.z.TestFactoryBean" name="testFactory"> <bean class="x.y.z.TestBean" factory-bean="testFactory" factory-method="getObject" scope="test" /> So the real question is, how can I make Spring behave like it does for the 2nd example above, but using real FactoryBeans?

• How to view a DataTable while debuging

  I'm just getting started using ADO.NET and DataSets and DataTables. One problem I'm having is it seems pretty hard to tell what values are in the data table when trying to debug. What are some of the easiest ways of quickly seeing what values have been saved in a DataTable? Is there someway to see the contents in Visual Studio while debugging or is the only option to write the data out to a file? I've created a little utility function that will write a DataTable out to a CSV file. Yet the the resulting CSV file created was cut off. About 3 lines from what should have been the last line in the middle of writing out a System.Guid the file just stops. I can't tell if this is an issue with my CSV conversion method, or the original population of the DataTable. Update Forget the last part I just forgot to flush my stream writer.

  I have one employee table...this table has 5 coloumns (empname, empgsm, empsal, empaddr, empdep)...it has 10 records. i've created 10 users equivelent to the empnames coloumn in the table. When a user logs in with his empname aka username & password, he will be able to see only his record from the table. eg.Smith is an employee, a user called smith was created. when this user is in session, and types "Select * from Employee_table" he only gets the record that belongs to him, where empname is smith. how do i do this using privileges? thanks in advance

Car hasMany Passenger Passenger belongsTo Car I managed to create add functionailty for each model and managed to resolve the hasMany relationship between them. Now I'm trying to create a addCar function and view that allows the user to create a new car and automatically generate Passengers. I thought of something like this The view asks the user enter the car information The view has some field that allows to temporarly add new passengers and remove remove them When the user saves the new car, the entities for the passengers are created, the entity for the car is created and the passengers are linked to the car. If the user decides to cacnel everything, the DB remains unchanged. Now my question is: What is the best way to do this? Is there a pattern / tutorial to follow for such a entity and associated subentity creation? To clarify: The passengers associated with each car do not exist prior to the existence of the car.
