  Hi, I'm trying to 'AJAX-ify' my site in order to improve the UI experience. In terms of performance, I'm also trying to get rid of the UpdatePanel. I've come across a great article over at Encosia showing a way of posting using PageMethods. My question is, how secure are page methods in a production environment? Being public, can anyone create a JSON script to POST directly to the server, or are there cross-domain checks taking place? My PageMethods would also write the data into the database (after filtering). I'm using Forms Authentication in my pages and, on page load, it redirects unauthenticated users to the login page. Would the Page Methods on this page also need to check authentication if the user POSTs directly to the method, or is that authentication inherited for the entire page? (Essentially, does the entire page cycle occur even if a user has managed to post only to the PageMethod)? Thanks

  I'm letting my App's user send email from within the app to share some content on myserver. To do so I need to include a button with two bits of data and I want to use POST to keep it somewhat hidden. Is there a better way to do this or is the issue with my mail client?

• Upload file via HTTP from VBA (WinHTTP)

  Hi all, I'm trying to HTTP upload a binary file programmatically from within VBA. I intend to put an ASPX page on the server. I know there are lots of nice ways to do that (e.g. use web service instead of aspx), but my constraint is that it must run in VBA (in an excel file), and that I cannot install any additional components on the client. So I guess I'll use WinHTTP, and I've found several examples to post form data, but not to post a binary file. I probably need to base64 the file contents? If so, please let me know. If I can make WinHTTP do file encoding for me, please let me know. If there is a much better way to reach my goal (Upload file from within VBA, server needn't necessarily be ASPX, could be a ASP.NET-Web service as well), please let me know... Thx, chiccodoro

• Java type for date/time when using Oracle Date with Hibernate

  We have a Oracle Date column. At first in our Java/Hibernate class we were using java.sql.Date. This worked but it didn't seem to store any time information in the database when we save so I changed the Java data type to Timestamp. • Silverlight 3 - Creating Custom Objects inside a Merged ResourceDictionary

  I have custom classes that I currently instantiate within App.xaml as resources. I want to move these custom objects into a Merged ResourceDictionary, where they are used within styles, and keep them close to where they are used. Here's an example of what I want, arbitrarily using fake converter objects, but they could be any custom object... App.xaml (namespace declarations ommitted): <Application.Resources> <ResourceDictionary> <ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> <ResourceDictionary Source="Merged.xaml" /> </ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> <Style x:Key="SomeStyle" TargetType="SomeControl"> ... </Style> ... </ResourceDictionary> And then in Merged.xaml (namespace declarations omitted): <ResourceDictionary> <cvt:VisibilityToBoolConverter x:Key="BoolToVisibility" Inverted="True"/> <cvt:VisibilityToBoolConverter x:Key="NotBoolToVisibility" Inverted="True" Not="True"/> <Style x:Key="SomethingThatUsesVisibilityToBoolConvertersStyle" TargetType="SomeOtherControl"> .... </Style> </ResourceDictionary> The issue I'm seeing is this: when I create the BoolToVisibility and NotBoolToVisibility objects (as well instantiating other objects that are instances of custom classes I have created) just as part Application.Resources, they are created and all the references work as expected; however, when I move these into a Merged Resource Dictionary (as I have in the sample above), I get a malformed Application exception when the Silverlight application loads. I belive this to be an issue with how objects are instantiated differently in Merged Resource Dictionaries (I belive it is more of a lazy-load approach), but I would expect it to work nonetheless. I am very much able to add Style objects, DataTemplates, ControlTemplates, and the like. But when I want to create instances of custom classes that are named or keyed using Xaml, it works great inside of App.xaml's Application.Resources directly and Application.Resources/ResourceDictionary as well. As soon as they are moved into a merged dictionary, it throws the exception. Is this by design? Any other ideas that work? Thanks in advance...

Here's what I'd like to do: Ship ship = new Ship(); string value = "5.5"; PropertyInfo propertyInfo = ship.GetType().GetProperty("Latitude"); propertyInfo.SetValue(ship, value, null); As is, this throws an Argument exception (Object of type 'System.String' cannot be converted to type 'System.Double'). How can I convert value to the proper type, based on propertyInfo?

• Storing Interface type in ASP.NET Profile

  In my ASP.NET website all calls into the data layer return entities as interfaces and the website does not need to know what the concrete type is. This works fine, but I have run into a problem when trying to store one of those types into the user Profile. My interface implements ISerializable, like the following: public interface IInsured : IPerson, IEntity, ISerializable and the concrete type in the datalayer does implement ISerializable. My Profile property in web.config is: <add name="ActiveInsured" type="FacadeInterfaces.IInsured" serializeAs="Binary" defaultValue="[null]"/> It compiles just fine, but I get a runtime error on Profile.Save() saying that the interface cannot be serialized. I have also tried it with serializeAs="Xml". I thought that if my interface implemented ISerializable it would work. Anybody had this problem before or know of a workaround?

• Accessing an asp.net web service with classic asp

  My company is considering working with another company on a particular module. Information would be sent back and forth between us through my web service. Thing is, my web service uses ASP.NET, and they use classic ASP. Everything I've found online says (it's a pain, but) they can communicate, but I'm not clear on some details. Specifically, do I have to enable GET and POST on my web service? If I don't have to, but could, would enabling them make the communication significantly easier/better? And finally, GET and POST are disabled by default because of security. What are the security risks involved in enabling them?

• Setting the content-type of requests performed by jQuery jqGrid

  I am using the latest version of jqGrid: 3.6.4 This seems like a simple problem (or at least it did before I spent a few hours on it): When the grid sends a request to the server (to a controller action), its content-type is always: application/x-www-form-urlencoded; charset=UTF-8 and I would like it to be: application/json; charset=utf-8 but I can find no way of setting the content-type (there is no contentType option as you would find on a $.ajax call for example). So just to clarify, I am not asking how to set the content-type on a jQuery server request, but specifically using jqGrid, which does not provide an obvious option for doing this. Thanks, Nigel.

That allows us to use arbitrary view methods as action handlers. The existing issue is that the input to the form, only displays on the console and not on jsfiddle result section, though no error displays on the result section, there is a new error appearing in the console of the updated fiddle: Uncaught Error: Cannot perform operations on a Metamorph that is not in the DOM. Finally solved I needed to comment out App.initialize() for it to work as expected. This the working fiddle ** http://jsfiddle.net/ACzaJ/20/. I don't know why that is so, but my guess is that, App.initialize works with other parts like the router for routing, ApplicationController and ApplicationView with {{outlet}} in the handlebars, which i didn't need for this fiddle. Finally Finally and completely solved This ** http://jsfiddle.net/tQWn8/ works with App.initialize. But you have to declare all those components above and pass the router to App.initialize, like this App..initialize(router). If you don't do this, then you will get the old error Uncaught Error: Cannot perform operations on a Metamorph that is not in the DOM.

I can get the code to call the procedure, but how do I access the returned Custom Object to obtain it's contained values?.   Hey, I am calling a bunch of posts under a certain post type in WordPress which works but I am trying to add a conditional that will check first if those post's custom meta field (labeled "disc") is equal to the current post's title. • Post-loading : check if an image is in the browser cache

  Short version question : Is there navigator.mozIsLocallyAvailable equivalent function that works on all browsers, or an alternative? Long version :) Hi, Here is my situation : I want to implement an HtmlHelper extension for asp.net MVC that handle image post-loading easily (using jQuery). So i render the page with empty image sources with the source specified in the "alt" attribute. I insert image sources after the "window.onload" event, and it works great. I did something like this : $(window).bind('load', function() { var plImages = $(".postLoad"); plImages.each(function() { $(this).attr("src", $(this).attr("alt")); }); }); The problem is : After the first loading, post-loaded images are cached. But if the page takes 10 seconds to load, the cached post-loaded images will be displayed after this 10 seconds. So i think to specify image sources on the "document.ready" event if the image is cached to display them immediatly. I found this function : navigator.mozIsLocallyAvailable to check if an image is in the cache.   I am trying to display a list of pages similar to the facebook search results. Along with the page's name, I would like to display the page type. The page's type property (from the Pages.getInfo API call returns the rather unfriendly looking strings from this list: http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Page_Types Is there any way to map these to or retrieve the actual type descriptions facebook uses for page types in the facebook search results? These are not only more presentable, but appear to be less granular (both good things for my purpose).

• Drupal 5: CCK fields in custom content type

  I have module that implements custom content type via NodeAPI hooks (hook_insert, hook_update etc). I want to add CCK field to this content type and populate it via hook_nodeapi calls like create or update (to show content nodes in Views). Problem is, I cannot access CCK fields for this content type. Sure, it's enabled on "Manage Fields" page, but when I load any node of this type with Devel module, I cannot see field attribute (field_flag) in node object. I can see it under "Dev Render" tab as part of "content" attribute, like $node-content['field_flag']['#value'], but if I assign value to $node-field_flag or $node-content['field_flag']['#value'] and call node_save, CCK fields are not saved. Maybe I must call some other function to save CCK fields? Or what may be wrong with this setup?

• Convert float to decimal in Informix

  I have a table with a column of type decimal. There is a ESQL/C structure that represents the table. It has a member of type decimal. I also have a normal C structure for equivalent for the same table. The type of the above mentioned field is a float. Since we use memcpy to copy data to and from ESQL/C structure to C structure, there is an issue with decimal to float conversion. When I searched the Informix ESQL/C Programmer's manual, I couldn't find any function that can do this. Google search led me to the deccvflt() function. This function converts from a float to a decimal type. Though I couldn't find this function listed in the manual, I see the declarations in decimal.h. Are these functions still recommended to be used? Alternatively, I was also thinking about using the decimal type in the C structure also, as it happens to be a C structure.   I can't see what I am doing wrong, as the files are in the correct order. In this case it is: BaseDAO.fs CreateDatabase.fs They are in the same namespace, but even when I had them in different modules, and opened the module in CreateDatabase the same error. • Troubleshooting FORM POST problems

  I'm using the following code to submit to a WCF service. I keep getting an error that the key is invalid. I have a webpage on the same server that I submit the same data (but different key) using a FORM POST. It works fine that way. I put the URL below all in a URL (including valid key from server webpage) and get the key is invalid error. I'm thinking the data I'm submitting through the iPhone isn't really going across as a FORM POST but rather as a URL. Is there anything I may be doing wrong in the following code or any other suggestions?   I am making a POST to another php file that I want to render in the browser. so clearly, using jquery POST wont work, since it works through AJAX. echo '<div class="showcase_URL"><a class="purl" name="'.$row->num.'" href="#">PROJECT URL</a></div>'; what I have till now in javascript is: $(".showcase_URL a").click(function() { //alert($(this).attr("name")); var number = $(this).attr("name"); $.post( "app-display.php", {app: number}, function(data){ top.location.href = 'app-display.php'; }); }); what I have in app-display.php: $query = 'SELECT num, title, thumb_url, url, type, cat, dated, details FROM app WHERE `num` = "$_POST[app]"'; but it is currently giving me a page without the contents of app-display.php. all the other fragments of the page are loading: header, footer etc. the PHP Response (in Firebug) I am getting is the normal html of the page. how should i do it?

• jQuery.post() issues with passing data to jQuery UI

  Hello, I am trying to get jQuery.post() to run my php script and then open a jQuery UI dialog with the data that php script returns. Its supposed to come back as a form with a table and a textarea in it. It works great with alert(data); and i get a pop-up with all my data. The problem starts if i turn off alert(). Now it opens 2 dialogs. One containing only the table, without textarea, and the second one absolutely empty. What am i doing wrong here? How come all my data shows up in the alert(), but not in dialog? What do i need to do to fix it? Oh, and do i need to also include $.ajax() before the $.post()?
