• What's a good bit of JS or JQuery for horizontally scrolling news ticker

  Hi, I am looking for a little bit of JQuery or JS that allows me to produce a horizontally scrolling "news ticker" list. The produced HTML needs to be standards compliant as well. I have tried liScroll but this has a habit of breaking (some content ends up on a second line at the start of the scroll), especially with longer lists. I have also tried this News Ticker but when a DOCTYPE is included the scrolling will jolt rather than cycle smoothly at the end of each cycle. Any suggestions are appreciated. Edit So thanks to Matt Hinze's suggestion I realised I could do what I wanted to do with JQuery animate (I require continuous scrolling not discrete scrolling like the example). However, I quickly ran into similar problems to those I was having with liScroll and after all that realised a CSS issue (as always) was responsible. Solution: liScroll - change the default 'var stripWidth = 0' to something like 100, to give a little space and avoid new line wrapping.

• Communicating between PHP and Java using ActiveMQ/Stomp

  Background I have two services that need to communicate with each other over a message queue. One is a legacy service written in PHP and the other is in Java. Sooner than later, the PHP service will be rewritten in Java. The current way they communicate with each other is to write to a shared database, which the other service polls. This is what I'm trying to get away from and replace with a message queue. Problem The communication I'm working on right now is from the PHP service to the Java service. It needs to send a relatively complex object (strings and and integers and lists and maps of strings and integers). Ideally, the solution would be workable in PHP and ideal in Java, as that's going to be the legacy of this project. Possible Solutions 1.

  Today I was bitten again by "Mutable default arguments" after many years. I usually don't use mutable default arguments unless needed but I think with time I forgot about that, and today in the application I added tocElements=[] in a pdf generation function's argument list and now 'Table of Content' gets longer and longer after each invocation of "generate pdf" :) My question is what other things should I add to my list of things to MUST avoid? Mutable default arguments Import modules always same way e.g. from y import x and import x are different things, they are treated as different modules. Do not use range in place of lists because range() will become an iterator anyway, the following will fail: myIndexList = [0,1,3] isListSorted = myIndexList == range(3) # will fail in 3.0 isListSorted = myIndexList == list(range(3)) # will not same thing can be mistakenly done with xrange: `myIndexList == xrange(3)`.   When working with MVP in GWT how would you work with a table? For example if you had a table of users does your view look like this? public interface MyDisplay{ HasValue<User> users(); } or would it be more like this? public interface MyDisplay{ HasValue<TableRow> rows(); } MVP makes a ton of sense until you start dealing with widgets that need to display lists of non-primitive data. • Getting 401 on Twitter OAuth POST requests

  I am trying to use Twitter OAuth and my POST requests are failing with a 401 (Invalid OAuth Request) error. For example, if I want to post a new status update, I am sending a HTTP POST request to https://twitter.com/statuses/update.json with the following parameters - status=Testing&oauth_version=1.0&oauth_token=xxx& oauth_nonce=xxx&oauth_timestamp=xxx&oauth_signature=xxx& oauth_consumer_key=xxx&in_reply_to=xxx&oauth_signature_method=HMAC-SHA1` My GET requests are all working fine. I can see on the mailing lists that a lot of people have had identical problems but I could not find a solution anywhere. I am using the oauth.py Python library.

• How to create a typed stack using Objective-C

  I can create a stack class quite easily, using push and pop accessor methods to an NSArray, however. I can make this generic to take any NSObject derived class, however, I want to store only a specific class in this stack. Ideally I want to create something similar to Java's typed lists (List or List) so that I can only store that type in the stack. I can create a different class for each (ProjectStack or ItemStack), but this will lead to a more complicated file structure. Is there a way to do this to restrict the type of class I can add to a container to a specific, configurable type?

  Hi, I am trying to sort rows of a table, and put them as 'child' elements of a table row I found this: http://code.google.com/p/nestedsortables/ this works with ul li lists, but i want to build it for a table. <table> <thead> <th>tablehead</th> </thead> <tbody> <tr><td>somevalue</td></tr> <tr><td>somevalue2</td></tr> </tbody> </table> so yeah you can use jquery.sortable() and sort the rows, but i want 'somevalue' to be become a child element of 'somevalue2' if you drag 'somevalue' over 'somevalue2' I don't know if it is posible with a table. can anyone help me? • DataGrid giving error and getting invisible whenever some elements visibility is changed

  I have a datagrid in which i have textblocks as one column.Then in the next column i have progress bar over which there is a textblock.On loading row of datagrid,i add these three into lists of textblock and progressbar.I start the first progress bar and after 15-20 minutes next progress bar is started.The next progress bar is getting started fine and after 20 minutes it is getting invisible.The problem is that if i try to make textblock invisible,then the whole Datagrid gets invisible and stops working.After all the tasks in the Datagrid are complete i need to make DataGrid invisible and also when i try to do so,the grid becomes invisible and no other event gets fired.... e.g List txtlist=new List(); i=1; txtlist[i].Visibility=Visibility.Collapsed;

• Control within ascx is null when ascx is added from codebehind

  I am having difficulties how to construct my question, but if I have to put it simply the situation is that I have categories of products. I have an aspx with a repeater on the left that lists the categories. And I want the products to be listed on the right. Category number is variable so I made an ascx with a DataList in it. When I try to do foreach category, ascx = new ascx(); then the DataList within this ascx control is null. ps: what I want to do is to preload all the products (thre is not much) and hide the divs and fadein fadeout them using jQuery when a category div is clicked. rightnow it is using jQuery.load(); and I don't like how the images load, cuz they download from top to bottom. • OpenGL Diffuse Lighting Shader Bug?

  The Orange book, section 16.2, lists implementing diffuse lighting as: void main() { vec3 N = normalize(gl_NormalMatrix * gl_Normal); vec4 V = gl_ModelViewMatrix * gl_vertex; vec3 L = normalize(lightPos - V.xyz); gl_FrontColor = gl_Color * vec4(max(0.0, dot(N, L)); } However, when I run this, the lighting changes when I move my camera. On the other hand, when I change vec3 N = normalize(gl_NormalMatrix * gl_Normal); to vec3 N = normalize(gl_Normal); I get diffuse lighting that works like the fixed pipeline. What is this gl_NormalMatrix, what did removing it do, ... and is this a bug in the orange book ... or am I setting up my OpenGl code improperly?

• AudioQueueOfflineRender returning empty data

  I'm having problems using AudioQueueOfflineRender to decode AAC data. When I examine the buffer after the call, it is always filled with empty data. I made sure the input buffer is valid and packet descriptions are provided. I searched and found that a few others have had the same problem: http://lists.apple.com/archives/Coreaudio-api/2008/Jul/msg00119.html Also, the inTimestamp argument doesn't make sense to me. Why should the renderer care where in the audio the beginning of the buffer corresponds to? The function throws an error if I pass in NULL, so I pass in the timestamp anyway.

• How can I drag from a connected vertical list to the first item of a another list below with jQueryUI Sortable?

  Hi all, I have have several ULs vertically down a page. They are setup using jQueryUI's sortable(). My live example is: http://jsfiddle.net/pborreli/pJgyu/ I can drag from answers to make it the final element in questions. But when I drag from questions to answers the placeholder jumps to the second item in the questions list. At that point I can then drag it to the top. Any ideas why I am having this issue dragging from a list above to the first element of a list below? I've tried editing the padding and margin on both the lists and the sortable items.   I have a VseWss project that I want to migrate to WspBuilder. The project has many features (Content Types, Fields, Lists, Event Listeners, Workflows, ASPX files, their code behind etc) and the project references couple of other assemblies as well. And it does the SafeControls entries and deploys the assemblies into GAC etc Important aspect is; the WSP that gets created from the VseWss is deployed to the production server and while migrating I want to preserve all of these things so that when I create the WSP from WspBuilder things are transparent for the Sharepoint Administrators. Please guide me how to proceed...any online tutorial or related stuff that talks about migrating a real world VseWss project (with 10-20 different types of features)

• Looking to capture PageIndex on a gridview

  Hey, So I have a gridview which lists a bunch of jobs. On this gridview I have paging enabled, which works fine. When I hover over the Page Numbers i.e 1,2,3,4,.... the following is displayed javascript_DoPostBack('C100PlaceHolderGrievew','Page$1') Now my problem is as follows. When I click on one of the hyperlinks in this list i go to an edit details page. Once the user clicks on save I redirect the user back to the List page with gridview. What I would like to implement is that the gridview remembers what page they came from i.e Page 2. I know i can Use PageIndex to set this but Im not sure how to send across the value of "page" of the gridview so i can this.

  Hi I want to bind a lists position to its own height in XAML. So its lower left corner always will be at 0.0 of the canvas. I'm using elementBinding to get the ActualHeight and a converter to invert the property. But the height sent to the converter is 0. • WPF databinding update comboxbox2 based on selection change in combobox1 with MVVM

  I have a combo box that I have bound to a list that exists in my viewmodel. Now when a users makes a selection in that combo box I want a second combo box to update its content. So, for example, combobox1 is States and combobox2 should contain only the Zipcodes of that state. But in my case I don't have a predefined lists before hand for combobox2, I need to go fetch from a db. Also, if needed, I could get all the potential values for combobox2 (for each combobox1 value) before hand, but I'd like to avoiding that if I can. How do I implement in WPF and using MVVM? I'm fairly new to this whole wpf\databinding\mvvm world.

• Empty list in appengine datastore: java vs python

  I have the following java model class in AppEngine: public class Xyz ... { @Persistent private Set<Long> uvw; } When saving an object Xyz with an empty set uvw in Java, I get a "null" field (as listed in the appengine datastore viewer). When I try to load the same object in python (through remote_api), as defined by the following python model class: class Xys(db.Model): uvw = db.ListProperty(int) I get a "BadValueError: Property uvw is required". When saving another object of the same class in python with an empty uvw list, the datastore viewer print a "missing" field. Apparently empty lists storage handling differs between Java and python and lead to "incompatible" objects. Thus my question: Is there a way to, either: force Java to store an empty list as a "missing" field, force Python to gracefully accept a "null" list as an empty list when loading the object? Or any other suggestion on how to handle empty list field in both languages. Thanks for your answers!

  I have two lists A and B, at the beginning of my program, they are both filled with information from a database (List A = List B). My program runs, List A is used and modified, List B is left alone. After a while I reload List B with new information from the database, and then do a check with that against List A. foreach (CPlayer player in ListA) if (ListB.Contains(player)) ----- Firstly, the object player is created from a class, its main identifier is player.Name. If the Name is the same, but the other variables are different, would the .Contains still return true? Class CPlayer( public CPlayer (string name) _Name = name At the ---- I need to use the item from ListB that causes the .Contains to return true, how do I do that?

  I would like to convert doc/docx documents to semantic HTML. Some wishes/requirements: Semantic HTML such that headers in the document are <h1>, <h2> etc., tables are <table> and so forth. Should preferably be possible to handle headings, lists, tables and images. Graphs and math formulas is a nice extra. • Doesn't have to be converted straight from doc/docx to html, could use an intermediary format, such as xml or docbook. • Should work programatically, and with large number of documents. The closest thing to a solution I've found so far is http://holloway.co.nz/docvert/index.html, but unfortunately there are many a few bugs, small user base and it can't handle a lot of documents. More of a proof of concept.

• Cannot change the target CPU to x86 Or x64 in Visual Studio 2005

  I am trying to build a website application and specify the target CPU as x86 instead of Any CPU. The only choices I have in Configuration Manager under the "Active solution platform:" drop-down list are: "Any CPU", "Edit..", and "New...". In the "Project Contexts" portion of the "Configuration Manager" window, it lists 3 columns: "Project", "Configuration" and "Platform". Under the "Platform" column, my only choice is ".Net". when the "Active solution configuration" is set to, "Debug". When the, ""Active solution configuration" is set to "Release", then I can choose either, ".Net" or "Any CPU" under the "Platform" column. I am using Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition. This website was previously built using Visual Studio .NET and was recently upgraded using the Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition Upgrade Wizard. I need to target x86 specifically because the are components used in the project that are only x86 compatible.

  I have some text laid out using Core Text in my iPhone app. I'm using NSAttributedString to set certain styles within the text for given ranges. I can't seem to find an attribute for setting a background / highlight colour, though it would seem it is possible.   Hi everyone, I am using jstl with dropdown lists. When i click submit button i success the specification but values int dropdownlists are reinitialized. So I want to submit form without loosing the values already selected in the form because I need to stay always at the same level in the form.To be more clear, user choose a value from ddl and click edit button to show other options and fill them at the same form without loosing what he has selected. I have tried to deal like that... <form action="myjsp.jsp" method="post"> <input type="Submit" value="Edit"> ...but it doesn't work. Thank you for your help.
