  • How to cache queries in Rails across multiple requests

    - by m.u.sheikh
I want to cache query results so that the same results are fetched "for more than one request" till i invalidate the cache. For instance, I want to render a sidebar which has all the pages of a book, much like the index of a book. As i want to show it on every page of the book, I have to load it on every request. I can cache the rendered sidebar index using action caching, but i also want to actually cache the the query results which are used to generate the html for the sidebar. Does Rails provide a way to do it? How can i do it?

  • Windows Server 2008 R2: ASP queries to IIS fail with UAC enabled

    - by MisterZimbu
I have some ASP code that creates a virtual directory in IIS. However, when running on IIS7 in Windows Server 2008 R2, the call to GetObject fails with "permission denied". This only occurs when UAC is enabled; the entire process works perfectly if UAC is disabled. Set objIIS = GetObject("IIS://localhost/W3SVC/" & siteNumber & "/Root") siteNumber itself is a valid parameter (as the system works fine if UAC is off). Any ideas of a workaround I can make for this? Unfortunately turning off UAC at this point is not an option.

  • Creating queries using Criteria API (JPA 2.0)

    - by Pym
Hello there ! I'm trying to create a query with the Criteria API from JPA 2.0, but I can't make it work. The problem is with the "between" conditionnal method. I read some documentation to know how I have to do it, but since I'm discovering JPA, I don't understand why it does not work. First, I can't see "creationDate" which should appear when I write "Transaction_." I thought it was maybe normal, since I read the metamodel was generated at runtime, so I tried to use 'Foo_.getDeclaredSingularAttribute("value")' instead of 'Foo_.value', but it still doesn't work at all. Here is my code : public List<Transaction> getTransactions(Date startDate, Date endDate) { EntityManager em = getEntityManager(); try { CriteriaBuilder cb = em.getCriteriaBuilder(); CriteriaQuery<Transaction> cq = cb.createQuery(Transaction.class); Metamodel m = em.getMetamodel(); EntityType<Transaction> Transaction_ = m.entity(Transaction.class); Root<Transaction> transaction = cq.from(Transaction.class); // Error here. cannot find symbol. symbol: variable creationDate cq.where(cb.between(transaction.get(Transaction_.creationDate), startDate, endDate)); // I also tried this: // cq.where(cb.between(Transaction_.getDeclaredSingularAttribute("creationDate"), startDate, endDate)); List<Transaction> result = em.createQuery(cq).getResultList(); return result; } finally { em.close(); } } Can someone help me to figure this out? Thanks.

First i get the articles with below sql SELECT * FROM articles Then after i get the articles array i loop though it and get the user info inside each loop like below SELECT username, id FROM users WHERE id='".$articles->user_id."'; Which is better can i have explanation on why too. • Count number of queries executed by NHibernate in a unit test

    - by Bittercoder
In some unit/integration tests of the code we wish to check that correct usage of the second level cache is being employed by our code. Based on the code presented by Ayende here: http://ayende.com/Blog/archive/2006/09/07/MeasuringNHibernatesQueriesPerPage.aspx I wrote a simple class for doing just that: public class QueryCounter : IDisposable { CountToContextItemsAppender _appender; public int QueryCount { get { return _appender.Count; } } public void Dispose() { var logger = (Logger) LogManager.GetLogger("NHibernate.SQL").Logger; logger.RemoveAppender(_appender); } public static QueryCounter Start() { var logger = (Logger) LogManager.GetLogger("NHibernate.SQL").Logger; lock (logger) { foreach (IAppender existingAppender in logger.Appenders) { if (existingAppender is CountToContextItemsAppender) { var countAppender = (CountToContextItemsAppender) existingAppender; countAppender.Reset(); return new QueryCounter {_appender = (CountToContextItemsAppender) existingAppender}; } } var newAppender = new CountToContextItemsAppender(); logger.AddAppender(newAppender); logger.Level = Level.Debug; logger.Additivity = false; return new QueryCounter {_appender = newAppender}; } } public class CountToContextItemsAppender : IAppender { int _count; public int Count { get { return _count; } } public void Close() { } public void DoAppend(LoggingEvent loggingEvent) { if (string.Empty.Equals(loggingEvent.MessageObject)) return; _count++; } public string Name { get; set; } public void Reset() { _count = 0; } } } With intended usage: using (var counter = QueryCounter.Start()) { // ... do something Assert.Equal(1, counter.QueryCount); // check the query count matches our expectations } But it always returns 0 for Query count. No sql statements are being logged. However if I make use of Nhibernate Profiler and invoke this in my test case: NHibernateProfiler.Intialize() Where NHProf uses a similar approach to capture logging output from NHibernate for analysis via log4net etc. then my QueryCounter starts working. It looks like I'm missing something in my code to get log4net configured correctly for logging nhibernate sql ... does anyone have any pointers on what else I need to do to get sql logging output from Nhibernate?

  • Sometimes my urls get masked with the IP address instead of the domain

    - by user64631
I have a server with one A record that points to my IP address. I have nginx with gunicorn as a prefork which goes to my django application For most of my pages, the URL is always my domain name in the url bar. However if I go to mydomain.com/admin the url magically transforms into x.x.x.x/admin in the url bar of my browser. I thought that was weird but I ignored it figuring it only happened for admin so it wasnt that big of a deal. Then I installed django-registration. So when I go to mydomain.com/accounts/register the url is still mydomain.com/accounts/register in the url bar. but when I submit a form, the POST request goes to x.x.x.x/accounts/register which creates a cross domain error. So I decided that it wasnt isolated to the admin and I really need to fix what is going on. I have no idea what is going on and am completely lost.

  • Caching view-port based Geo-queries

    - by friism
I have a web app with a giant Google Map in it. As users pan and zoom around on the map, points are dynamically loaded through AJAX call which include the viewport bounds (NE and SW corner coordinates) and some other assorted parameters. How do I cache these request for points? The problem is that the parameters are highly variable and (worst) not discrete i.e. floats with a lots of decimal places. I'm using ASP.NET-MVC/C#/LINQ2SQL/SQL-Server but the problem is not tied to that platform. This is the signature of the the relevant method: [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public JsonResult Data(string date, string categories, string ne_lat, string ne_lng, string sw_lat, string sw_lng)

  • Will rel=canonical break site: queries ?

    - by Justin Grant
Our company publishes our software product's documentation using a custom-built content management system using a dynamic URL namespace like this: http://ourproduct.com/documentation/version/pageid Where "version" is the version number to which the documentation applies, and "pageid" is a unique string which identifies that page in our back-end content management system. For example, if content (e.g. a page about configuration best practices) is unchanged from version 3.0 and 4.0 of our product, it'd be reachable by two different URLs: http://ourproduct.com/documentation/3.0/configuration-best-practices http://ourproduct.com/documentation/4.0/configuration-best-practices This URL scheme allows us to scope Google search results to see only documentaiton for a particular product version, like this: configuration site:ourproduct.com/documentation/4.0 But when the user is searching across all versions, we don't want Google to arbitrarily choose one of the URLs to show in results. Instead, we always want the latest version to show up. Hence our planned use of rel=canonical so we can proscriptively tell Google which URL we want to show up if multiple versions are being searched. (Users who do oddball things like searching 2 versions but not all of them are a corner case, so we don't care which version(s) show up in that case-- the primary use-cases we care about is searching one version or searching all versions) But what will happen to scoped searches if we do this? If my rel=canonical URL points to version 4.0, but my search is scoped to 3.0, will Google return a result? Even if you don't know the answer offhand, do you know a site which uses rel=canonical to redirect across folders in a URL namespace. If so, I could run a few Google searches and figure out the answer.

  • Free Online tools for testing mysql queries - having features like PhPMyAdmin

    - by Sandeepan Nath
Can anybody tell me any "free online hosted database servers" (don't know if that is the correct term) where we can do query testing and all those things that we can do on tools like PhpMyAdmin? does something like that exist? Like we have http://jsfiddle.net/ for testing js codes. I checked http://sqlzoo.net/ but this is very much limited and there are some predefined tables in some given examples on which we can alter things. That's all. It does not allow me to do a lots of other things like creating tables etc. A nice resource - PhpMyAdmin's demo site . Use the latest stable version here. You have full control over the MySQL server, however you should not change root, debian-sys-maint or pma user password or limit their permissions. If you do so, demo can not be accessed until privileges are restored, so you just break things for you and other users.

  • Using Rails Helper Methods within ActionRecord Queries?

    - by Pygmalion
I have a table of events (in a sqlite3 database for what it's worth) with a column called "when" that contains a timestamp detailing precisely when the event that particular row denotes is set to occur. Right now, I have @events = Event.find(:all) in my controller and I am using template helper methods to calculate where to place each event on my display page based on the day of the week it occurs on. For example: <% if(event.when.wday == 6) %> # DO SOMETHING <% end %> I want to abstract this logic to the controller however. My idea was to do the following: @thursday_events = Event.find(:all, :conditions => ["when.wday=4"]) Obviously (I guess?) this didn't work. Throwing the error "SQLite3::SQLException: near "when": syntax error: SELECT * FROM "events" WHERE (when.wday=4)". I'm assuming this is because I tried to use a helper method within a find condition but I don't know a better way to do this. Any advice? Thanks!

  • How to escape simple SQL queries in C# for SqlServer

    - by sri
I use an API that expects a SQL string. I take a user input, escape it and pass it along to the API. The user input is quiet simple. It asks for column values. Like so: string name = userInput.Value; Then I construct a SQL query: string sql = string.Format("SELECT * FROM SOME_TABLE WHERE Name = '{0}'", name.replace("'", "''")); Is this safe enough? If it isn't, is there a simple library function that make column values safe: string sql = string.Format("SELECT * FROM SOME_TABLE WHERE Name = '{0}'", SqlSafeColumnValue(name)); The API uses SQLServer as the database. Thanks.

  • Compiled Linq Queries with Built-in SQL functions

    - by Brandi
I have a query that I am executing in C# that is taking way too much time: string Query = "SELECT COUNT(HISTORYID) FROM HISTORY WHERE YEAR(CREATEDATE) = YEAR(GETDATE()) "; Query += "AND MONTH(CREATEDATE) = MONTH(GETDATE()) AND DAY(CREATEDATE) = DAY(GETDATE()) AND USERID = '" + EmployeeID + "' "; Query += "AND TYPE = '5'"; I then use SqlCommand Command = new SqlCommand(Query, Connection) and SqlDataReader Reader = Command.ExecuteReader() to read in the data. This is taking over a minute to execute from C#, but is much quicker in SSMS. I see from google searching you can do something with CompiledQuery, but I'm confused whether I can still use the built in SQL functions YEAR, MONTH, DAY, and GETDATE. If anyone can show me an example of how to create and call a compiled query using the built in functions, I will be very grateful! Thanks in advance.

  • Complex queries using Rails query language

    - by Daniel Johnson
    I have a query used for statistical purposes. It breaks down the number of users that have logged-in a given number of times. User has_many installations and installation has a login_count. select total_login as 'logins', count(*) as `users` from (select u.user_id, sum(login_count) as total_login from user u inner join installation i on u.user_id = i.user_id group by u.user_id) g group by total_login; +--------+-------+ | logins | users | +--------+-------+ | 2 | 3 | | 6 | 7 | | 10 | 2 | | 19 | 1 | +--------+-------+ Is there some elegant ActiveRecord style find to obtain this same information? Ideally as a hash collection of logins and users: { 2=>3, 6=>7, ... I know I can use sql directly but wanted to know how this could be solved in rails 3.

  • Optimal preferences for prefix queries with Oracle catalog (CTXCAT) index

    - by nw
The documentation for Oracle Text gives this example of a prefix/substring preference setting for context and catalog indexes: begin ctx_ddl.create_preference('mywordlist', 'BASIC_WORDLIST'); ctx_ddl.set_attribute('mywordlist','PREFIX_INDEX','TRUE'); ctx_ddl.set_attribute('mywordlist','PREFIX_MIN_LENGTH', '3'); ctx_ddl.set_attribute('mywordlist','PREFIX_MAX_LENGTH', '4'); ctx_ddl.set_attribute('mywordlist','SUBSTRING_INDEX', 'YES'); end; What I need to know is whether the substring_index attribute is necessary if I only ever issue prefix searches, such as: SELECT title FROM auction WHERE CATSEARCH(title, 'cam*', '') > 0; TITLE --------------- CANON CAMERA FUJI CAMERA NIKON CAMERA OLYMPUS CAMERA PENTAX CAMERA SONY CAMERA 6 rows selected

  • nested linq-to-sql queries

    - by ile
var result = ( from contact in db.Contacts join user in db.Users on contact.CreatedByUserID equals user.UserID orderby contact.ContactID descending select new ContactListView { ContactID = contact.ContactID, FirstName = contact.FirstName, LastName = contact.LastName, Company = (from field in contact.XmlFields.Descendants("Company") select field.Value).SingleOrDefault().ToString() }).Take(10); Here I described how my database tables look like. So, contacts table has one field that is xml type. In that field is stored Company filename and I need to read it. I tried it using this way: Company = (from field in contact.XmlFields.Descendants("Company") select field.Value).SingleOrDefault().ToString() }).Take(10); but I get following error: Member access 'System.String Value' of 'System.Xml.Linq.XElement' not legal on type 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable`1[System.Xml.Linq.XElement]. Any solution for this? Thanks in advance, Ile

  • ForceContext Queries method twice?

    - by azz0r
Hello, I'm doing a per minute script, to output the xml that a server will read, I am used forceContext. <?php class My_Controller_Action_Helper_ForceContext extends Zend_Controller_Action_Helper_ContextSwitch { public function initContext($format = null) { $request = $this->getRequest(); $action = $request->getActionName(); $context = $this->getActionContexts($action); //check if this is the only context if(count($context) === 1) { $format = $context[0]; } return parent::initContext($format); } } class Video_PerMinuteController extends Zend_Controller_Action { function init() { $contextSwitch = $this->_helper->getHelper('ForceContext'); $contextSwitch->addActionContext('transaction', 'xml')->initContext(); In my method, it gets the current minute count, adds 1, then saves. So I can clearly see when its accessed more than once in a minute. If I comment out the second contextSwitch line, it only goes up 1, if Its not, it displays the xml page but adds 2 minutes (being called twice somehow). Any ideas?

  • Summing the results of Case queries in SQL

    - by David Stelfox
I think this is a relatively straightforward question but I have spent the afternoon looking for an answer and cannot yet find it. So... I have a view with a country column and a number column. I want to make any number less than 10 'other' and then sum the 'other's into one value. For example, AR 10 AT 7 AU 11 BB 2 BE 23 BY 1 CL 2 I used CASE as follows: select country = case when number < 10 then 'Other' else country end, number from ... This replaces the countries values with less than 10 in the number column to other but I can't work out how to sum them. I want to end up with a table/view which looks like this: AR 10 AU 11 BE 23 Other 12 Any help is greatly appreciated. Cheers, David

  • Stop 2 identical queries from executing almost simultaneously?

    - by James Simpson
I have developed an AJAX based game where there is a bug caused (very remote, but in volume it happens at least once per hour) where for some reason two requests get sent to the processing page almost simultaneously (the last one I tracked, the requests were a difference of .0001 ms). There is a check right before the query is executed to make sure that it doesn't get executed twice, but since the difference is so small, the check hasn't finished before the next query gets executed. I'm stumped, how can I prevent this as it is causing serious problems in the game. Just to be more clear, the query is starting a new round in the game, so when it executes twice, it starts 2 rounds at the same time which breaks the game, so I need to be able to stop the script from executing if the previous round isn't over, even if that previous round started .0001 ms ago.

  • Access: strange results with queries against MDB file

What should be the effect of the HAVING clause here?
