  • jQuery/Javascript framework efficiency

    My latest project is using a javascript framework (jQuery), along with some plugins (validation, jquery-ui, datepicker, facebox, ...) to help make a modern web application. I am now finding pages loading slower than I am used to. After some js profiling (thanks VS2010!), it seems a lot of the time is taken procesing inside the framework. Now I understand the more complex the ui tools, the more processing needs to be done. The project is not yet at a large stage and I think would be average functions. At this stage I can see it is not going to scale well. I noticed things like the 'each' command in jQuery takes quite a lot of processing time. Have others experienced some extra latency using JS frameworks? How do I minimise their effect on page performance? Are there best practices on implementation using JS frameworks? Thanks

  • Easiest way to create twitter-like status update widget

    I want a widget that allows users to add a request if that request hasnt already been added, or vote for a request if it has already been added. when a user adds a request, i want it to immediately appear as the first element of the list, like what would happen to your timeline if you made new tweet. ive tried to look for a jquery plugin that offers this functionality, but i was unsuccessful (maybe i couldnt think of the right terms to search for??). i dont have enough faith in my js skills to write this from scratch, so id rather find a template to start with.   • Jquery broken by GetResponse (email marketing) web form script

    I'm working on a site that relies on quite a bit of javascript. The problem is, I'm not a javascript guru in the least. Yes, bit off more than I can chew, here. I'm using jquery for a spy effect, and use GetResponse for email signups. If I implement my GetResponse script, it breaks the area later in the page which depends on the jquery script. Pull the GetResponse script and it works just fine. Problem is, I need them both. ;) The trick, I suppose, is that the GetResponse script is actually another Jquery script, so it's getting called twice... Any help?   • jQuery Corners and IE Problems

    Hi Guys, I am using "malsups" jQuery corner plugin - http://jquery.malsup.com/corner/ - and having a bit of nightmare of a time with IE. Basically I have <ol><li> <span class="main"> <span class="test1"></span> <span class="test2"></span> <span class="test3"> <span id="test4"></span> <span id="special" class="special"> <span class="test4">TEXT</span> </span> </span> </li></ol> Basically, in IE when I try and make the id="special" have rounded corners - i get a distorted view. I think its something related to problems with referencing li elements using jQuery('#special').corner('5px'); Could anyone help :) ?

  • YUI Compressor + gzip causes Illegal Character error in jQuery

    When I minify jquery using YUI compressor, it works fine. When I then add gzip compression (and serve this version via mod rewrite), the gzipped version throws this error: illegal character in jquery.min.js on line 1 Line 1 is: ???????M???????????s?8?0???!sz?dKr?=? This results in a "jquery is not defined" error. I am using the following rewrite rules to serve up the gzipped versions: #Check to see if browser can accept gzip files. ReWriteCond %{HTTP:accept-encoding} (gzip.*) #make sure there's no trailing .gz on the url ReWriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !^.+\.gz$ #check to see if a .gz version of the file exists. RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}.gz -f #All conditions met so add .gz to URL filename (invisibly) RewriteRule ^(.+) $1.gz [L] I can't find any references to this happening to anyone else. Thoughts?

  • Accessing UI elements from delegate function in Windows Phone 7

    I have the following scenario: a page with a bunch of UI elements (grids, textblocks, whatever), and a button that when clicked launches an asynchronous network transaction which, when finished, launches a delegate function. I want to reference the page's UI elements from that delegate. Ideally I would like to do something like currentPage.getUIElementByName("uielement").insert(data), or even uielement.insert(data), or something similar. Is there a way to do this? No matter what I try an exception is being thrown saying that I don't have permissions to access that element. Is there a more correct way to handle updating pages with data retrieved over network?

  • Guice creates Swing components outside of UI thread problem?

    I'm working on Java Swing application with Google Guice as an IOC container. Things are working pretty well. There are some UI problems. When a standard L&F is replaced with Pushing pixels Substance L&F application is not running due to Guice's Swing components creation outside of UI thread. Is there a way to tell Guice to create Swing components in the UI thread? Maybe I should create custom providers which will return Swing components after SwingUtilities.invokeAndWait(Runnable) creates them. I don't like the idea of running the whole application in UI thread, but maybe it's just a perfect solution.

    I am looking for a Python UI library which I could use to develop a desktop GUI comparable to what can be done with .NET Windows Forms. I have no previous experience programming UI in Python, so I would rather choose (if there is a choice) something simple. The application I am building would be a document oriented - rich texts, lists and grids, I don't expect to use much graphics - mostly formatted texts. Any pointers, and if there is more than one major GUI library available for Python - how could I quickly test them to see which one is a better fit for my needs?

    Hi, I've successfully used jquery autocomplete to display a list of matching images based on user input. The user experience isn't great though due to the number of potential matches - even with fairly prescriptive input. I've found this example at nokia http://www.nokia.co.uk/support/download-software/device-software-update (I know it's written in flash) which would provide the ideal interface for what I'm trying to achieve. Does anyone have any pointers for doing this using jquery autocomplete as a starting point? Or better still know of an existing javascript library that provides this functionality?   • Jquery - intercept links created by ajax request

    Hi, I have some jquery code that intercepts links clicked on a page : $(document).ready(function() { $("a").click(function() { //do something here }); }); My problem is there are certain parts of the page that have not finished loading on document ready. They are populated via ajax calls. The links in these sections are not intercepted by my jQuery function above. I need the function to be run on document ready initially but then I need the new links to also have the same logic applied to them. Any help would be very much appreciated. This is an area that I am very unfamiliar with. I have written the jQuery stuff but the ajax code is an external component that I have no control over. Thanks in advance

    Hi, From my shallow reading, Spring MVC does not support jquery directly. It does enable integration with DWR framework. From my understanding of DWR, it is an ajax framework that allows you to call javas methods from javascript. Can I use both in my application? With Jquery handling most of the javascript code and client side interaction and DWR making the ajax calls? I am leaning towards learning jquery but there is no out of the box support for it in spring 2.5.

    I know my question reads a bit like that 'how much wood can a woodchuck chuck' line, please excuse that... I have a repeater with checkboxes. There are numerous rows in this repeater - I never know how many - I want only one checkbox checked at any time. If the user changes the checked checkbox, any pre-existing checks are unchecked therefore maintaining a single checked checkbox. I am using VB, but comfortable to port any C#. I want to use JQuery. I have been looking on Google, but only ever seem to find ALL checked, ALL unchecked systems. Any suggestions?

  • Removing all Matching Classes in jQuery

    Hi I have an li element that will have something along the lines of this for a declaration <li class="module ui-helper-fix"> And I can dynamically change the color of the module by adding on classes (That are provided dynamically through DB calls) the end result being <li class="module ui-helper-fix module-green"> or <li class="module ui-helper-fix module-default"> Well I am fine with changing the color by adding on a new module-WHATEVER class but what I would like to do is remove any class that matches module-XXXX so it starts with a clean slate and then add on the class module-crimson. So how do I remove all classes that match module-xxx first ? Keeping in mind I don't want to remove the base module class. Thanks. -Seth

  • How to include LinkedIn user profile page feeds in web application?

    I am building a web application in which I would like to include the user's LinkedIn profile page feeds. Is this possible? What I envision is the user comes to the web application and adds the complete URL for their Linked user profile in a text box and I would get the feeds for that user page. Would it be possible to do this with jquery? Or should I be looking at some other tool? I trying to make it more clear, I want to create a widget kinda of app for my web app where user enters a complete url of the linkedin user profile page and I have to retrieve the feeds of that particular user and display it. It should be dynamic in nature, if another user enters a another url into the text box I should be able to get the feeds from that particular user profile page.

    I have a page with the following two divs: <div id="searchResults"> </div> <div class="postSearchOptions" style="display: none;"> </div> Is there any way that I can make the "postSearchOptions" div appear when the "searchResults" div is updated by an AJAX call? I don't control the AJAX calls and I want to detect any change in the "searchResults" div.
