  • Android: new Intent() starts new instance with android:launchMode="singleTop"

    - by Stefan Klumpp
    I have Activity A with android:launchMode="singleTop" in the manifest. If I go to Activity B, C and D there I have menu shortcuts to return to my applications root activity (A). The code looks like this: Intent myIntent = new Intent(getBaseContext(), MainActivity.class); startActivity(myIntent); However, instead of returning to the already existing instance A of my MainActivity.class it creates a new instance - it goes to onCreate() instead of onNewIntent(). This is not the expected behavior, right?

  • Java: JAX-WS passing authentication info to a call to webservice

    - by agnieszka
    I am using JAX-WS. I am connecting to .NET webservice that requires authentication. I first call the Authentication.asmx so that I can be authenticated. The call returns me a LoginResult that contains a cookie name. Then I call another webservice and I need to somehow pass this cookie or a cookie name. and I don't know how. Here is the code: //first service that returns login information Authentication auth = new Authentication(new URL("the_url"), new QName("http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/soap/", "Authentication")); LoginResult result = auth.getAuthenticationSoap().login(HTTPuserName, HTTPpassword); //i need to pass cookie or cookie name or any other login information to call to this service Copy copyService = new Copy(new URL("service_url"), new QName("http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/soap/", "Copy")); BindingProvider p = (BindingProvider) copyService.getCopySoap();

  • How Can I create different selectors for accepting new connection in java NIO

    - by Deepak
    I want to write java tcp socket programming using java NIO. Its working fine. But I am using the same selector for accepting reading from and writing to the clients. How Can I create different selectors for accepting new connection in java NIO, reading and writing. Is there any online help. Actually when I am busy in reading or writing my selector uses more iterator. So If more number of clients are connected then performance of accepting new coneection became slow. But I donot want the accepting clients to be slow // Create a selector and register two socket channels Selector selector = null; try { // Create the selector selector = Selector.open(); // Create two non-blocking sockets. This method is implemented in // e173 Creating a Non-Blocking Socket. SocketChannel sChannel1 = createSocketChannel("hostname.com", 80); SocketChannel sChannel2 = createSocketChannel("hostname.com", 80); // Register the channel with selector, listening for all events sChannel1.register(selector, sChannel1.validOps()); sChannel2.register(selector, sChannel1.validOps()); } catch (IOException e) { } // Wait for events while (true) { try { // Wait for an event selector.select(); } catch (IOException e) { // Handle error with selector break; } // Get list of selection keys with pending events Iterator it = selector.selectedKeys().iterator(); // Process each key at a time while (it.hasNext()) { // Get the selection key SelectionKey selKey = (SelectionKey)it.next(); // Remove it from the list to indicate that it is being processed it.remove(); try { processSelectionKey(selKey); } catch (IOException e) { // Handle error with channel and unregister selKey.cancel(); } } } public void processSelectionKey(SelectionKey selKey) throws IOException { // Since the ready operations are cumulative, // need to check readiness for each operation if (selKey.isValid() && selKey.isConnectable()) { // Get channel with connection request SocketChannel sChannel = (SocketChannel)selKey.channel(); boolean success = sChannel.finishConnect(); if (!success) { // An error occurred; handle it // Unregister the channel with this selector selKey.cancel(); } } if (selKey.isValid() && selKey.isReadable()) { // Get channel with bytes to read SocketChannel sChannel = (SocketChannel)selKey.channel(); // See e174 Reading from a SocketChannel } if (selKey.isValid() && selKey.isWritable()) { // Get channel that's ready for more bytes SocketChannel sChannel = (SocketChannel)selKey.channel(); } } Thanks Deepak

  • Java 'Prototype' pattern - new vs clone vs class.newInstance

    - by Guillaume
    In my project there are some 'Prototype' factories that create instances by cloning a final private instance. The author of those factories says that this pattern provides better performance than calling 'new' operator. Using google to get some clues about that, I've found nothing really relevant about that. Here is a small excerpt found in a javdoc from an unknown project javdoc from an unknown project Sadly, clone() is rather slower than calling new. However it is a lot faster than calling java.lang.Class.newInstance(), and somewhat faster than rolling our own "cloner" method. For me it's looking like an old best practice of the java 1.1 time. Does someone know more about this ? Is this a good practice to use that with 'modern' jvm ?

  • augment the factory pattern in java

    - by TP
    I am trying to use a factory pattern to create a QuestionTypeFactory where the instantiated classes will be like MultipleChoice, TrueFalseQuestion etc. The factory code looks something like this class QuestionFactory { public enum QuestionType { TrueFalse, MultipleChoice, Essay } public static Question createQuestion(QuestionType quesType) { switch (quesType) { case TrueFalse: return new TrueFalseQuestion(); case MultipleChoice: return new MultipleChoiceQuestion(); case Essay: return new EssayQuestion(); } throw new IllegalArgumentException("Not recognized."); } } This works ok for now. If I want to add another question type I will need to modify the factory class and I do not want to do that. How can I set it up so that each question class registers itself with the Factory so that when I add a new question type, I do not have to change the code for the factory? I am a bit new to java and am not sure how to do this.

  • Sun Java keytool importing EV certificates into a single keystore

    - by ss0
    At my current job we are using tomcat, customers have custom web portals setup on their own local machines. EV certs are new to me, they have 2 part intermediary and a primary certificate. For our product to work it appears I need to get all three parts installed under a single keystore entry. How can I roll all three parts into a single x.509 compliant file for import? They syntax I am using is as follows: /blah/system/j2sdk/bin/keytool -import -alias foo -keystore /zix/system/jdk1.5.0_06/jre/lib/security/cacerts -file certname.pem -trustcacerts where foo = the keystore name and certname.pem is the main cert. I have tried importing the intermediate certs under their own names into the keystore and I don't know if it's just the product I have to work with (not vanilla tomcat) or what but it doesn't see those. I have seen a working system and all three certs were under the single keystore alias. Anyone have any ideas?

  • Java Swing: JWindow appears behind all other process windows, and will not disappear

    - by Kim Jong Woo
    I am using JWindow to display my splash screen during the application start up. however it will not appear in front of all windows as it should, and it will not disappear as well. import java.awt.BorderLayout; import java.awt.Color; import java.awt.Dimension; import java.awt.Font; import java.awt.Toolkit; import javax.swing.BorderFactory; import javax.swing.ImageIcon; import javax.swing.JLabel; import javax.swing.JPanel; import javax.swing.JWindow; public class MySplash { public static MySplash INSTANCE; private static JWindow jw; public MySplash(){ createSplash(); } private void createSplash() { jw = new JWindow(); JPanel content = (JPanel) jw.getContentPane(); content.setBackground(Color.white); // Set the window's bounds, centering the window int width = 328; int height = 131; Dimension screen = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getScreenSize(); int x = (screen.width - width) / 2; int y = (screen.height - height) / 2; jw.setBounds(x, y, width, height); // Build the splash screen JLabel label = new JLabel(new ImageIcon("splash.jpg")); JLabel copyrt = new JLabel("SplashScreen Test", JLabel.CENTER); copyrt.setFont(new Font("Sans-Serif", Font.BOLD, 12)); content.add(label, BorderLayout.CENTER); content.add(copyrt, BorderLayout.SOUTH); Color oraRed = new Color(156, 20, 20, 255); content.setBorder(BorderFactory.createLineBorder(oraRed, 0)); } public synchronized static MySplash getInstance(){ if(INSTANCE==null){ INSTANCE = new MySplash(); } return INSTANCE; } public void showSplash(){ jw.setAlwaysOnTop(true); jw.toFront(); jw.setVisible(true); return; } public void hideSplash(){ jw.setAlwaysOnTop(false); jw.toBack(); jw.setVisible(false); return; } } So in my main class which extends JFrame, I call my splash screen by SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable(){ @Override public void run() { MySplash.getInstance().showSplash(); } }); However, the JWindow appears behind the all open instances of windows on my computer. Hiding the JWindow also doesn't work. SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable(){ @Override public void run() { MySplash.getInstance().hideSplash(); } });

  • "database already closed" is shown using a custom cursor adapter

    - by kiduxa
    I'm using a cursor with a custom adapter that extends SimpleCursorAdapter: public class ListWordAdapter extends SimpleCursorAdapter { private LayoutInflater inflater; private Cursor mCursor; private int mLayout; private String[] from; private int[] to; public ListWordAdapter(Context context, int layout, Cursor c, String[] from, int[] to, int flags) { super(context, layout, c, from, to, flags); this.mCursor = c; this.inflater = LayoutInflater.from(context); this.mLayout = layout; this.from = from; this.to = to; } private static class ViewHolder { //public ImageView img; public TextView name; public TextView type; public TextView translate; } @Override public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { if (mCursor.moveToPosition(position)) { ViewHolder holder; if (convertView == null) { convertView = inflater.inflate(mLayout, null); holder = new ViewHolder(); // holder.img = (ImageView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.img_row); holder.name = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(to[0]); holder.type = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(to[1]); holder.translate = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(to[2]); convertView.setTag(holder); } else { holder = (ViewHolder) convertView.getTag(); } holder.name.setText(mCursor.getString(mCursor.getColumnIndex(from[0]))); holder.type.setText(mCursor.getString(mCursor.getColumnIndex(from[1]))); holder.translate.setText(mCursor.getString(mCursor.getColumnIndex(from[2]))); // holder.img.setImageResource(img_resource); } return convertView; } } And in the main activity I call it as: adapter = new ListWordAdapter(getSherlockActivity(), R.layout.row_list_words, mCursorWords, from, to, 0); When a modification in the list is made, I call this method: public void onWordSaved() { WordDAO wordsDao = new WordSqliteDAO(); Cursor mCursorWords = wordsDao.list(getSherlockActivity()); adapter.changeCursor(mCursorWords); } The thing here is that this produces me this exception: 10-29 And this is an example of how I manage a query: public Cursor list(Context context) { ConexionBD conexion = new ConexionBD(context); Cursor mCursor = null; try{ conexion.open(); mCursor = conexion.getDatabase().query(DataBaseHelper.TABLE_WORD , null , null, null, null, null, Word.NAME); if (mCursor != null) { mCursor.moveToFirst(); } }finally{ conexion.close(); } return mCursor; } For every connection to the DB I open it and close it.

  • java/Swing issue with paintComponent

    - by user310254
    The issue I'm having is issue with is I'm trying to get the paintComponent to draw the circle only when the mouse is clicked, dragged, then let go. However inside my paintPanel class I have to initialize the object I've created (ex. movedCircle myCircle = new movedCircle(0,0,0,0);) just creating the object movedCircle myCircle; gives an error until I actually fully initialize the object with a value. What I'm looking for: What's considered the best practice for this issue. I don't want to draw anything unnecessary before it is needed. The way I know how to fix it: boolean values inside of paintComponent so that way it doesn't draw until somethings actually there. import javax.swing.*; import java.awt.*; import java.awt.event.*; public class drawCircle extends JFrame{ private JPanel myPanel = new paintPanel(); public drawCircle(){ add(myPanel); } private class paintPanel extends JPanel{ private int x1, y1, x2, y2; movedText myText = new movedText(0,0,0,0); movedCircle myCircle = new movedCircle(0,0,0,0); public paintPanel(){ addMouseListener(new MouseAdapter(){ public void mousePressed(MouseEvent e){ x1 = e.getX(); y1 = e.getY(); myCircle = new movedCircle(x1, y1, 0, 0); repaint(); } public void mouseReleased(MouseEvent e){ x2 = e.getX(); y2 = e.getY(); myCircle = new movedCircle(x1, y1, x2, y2); repaint(); } }); addMouseMotionListener(new MouseMotionAdapter(){ public void mouseDragged(MouseEvent e){ x2 = e.getX(); y2 = e.getY(); myText = new movedText(x1, y1, x2, y2); myCircle = new movedCircle(x1, y1, x2, y2); repaint(); } public void mouseMoved(MouseEvent e){ x1 = e.getX(); y1 = e.getY(); x2 = 0; y2 = 0; myText = new movedText(x1, y1, x2, y2); repaint(); } }); } protected void paintComponent(Graphics g){ super.paintComponent(g); //draw oval after mouse released myText.paintText(g); myCircle.paintCircle(g); } } class movedCircle{ private int x1, y1, x2, y2; public movedCircle(int x1, int y1, int x2, int y2){ this.x1 = x1; this.y1 = y1; this.x2 = x2; this.y2 = y2; } public void paintCircle(Graphics g){ g.drawOval(x1, y1, x2 - x1, y2 - y1); } } class movedText{ private int x1, y1, x2, y2; public movedText(int x1, int y1, int x2, int y2){ this.x1 = x1; this.y1 = y1; this.x2 = x2; this.y2 = y2; } public void paintText(Graphics g){ g.drawString("x1: "+x1+" y1: "+y1+" x2: "+x2+" y2: "+y2, x1, y1); } } class RedSquare{ private int xPos = 50; private int yPos = 50; private int width = 20; private int height = 20; public void setX(int xPos){ this.xPos = xPos; } public int getX(){ return xPos; } public void setY(int yPos){ this.yPos = yPos; } public int getY(){ return yPos; } public int getWidth(){ return width; } public int getHeight(){ return height; } public void paintSquare(Graphics g){ g.setColor(Color.RED); g.fillRect(xPos,yPos,width,height); g.setColor(Color.BLACK); g.drawRect(xPos,yPos,width,height); } } public static void main(String[] args){ JFrame frame = new drawCircle(); frame.setTitle("Is in ellipse?   • When to use functional programming approach and when not? (in Java)

    - by john smith optional
    let's assume I have a task to create a Set of class names. To remove duplication of .getName() method calls for each class, I used org.apache.commons.collections.CollectionUtils and org.apache.commons.collections.Transformer as follows: Snippet 1: Set<String> myNames = new HashSet<String>(); CollectionUtils.collect( Arrays.<Class<?>>asList(My1.class, My2.class, My3.class, My4.class, My5.class), new Transformer() { public Object transform(Object o) { return ((Class<?>) o).getName(); } }, myNames); An alternative would be this code: Snippet 2: Collections.addAll(myNames, My1.class.getName(), My2.class.getName(), My3.class.getName(), My4.class.getName(), My5.class.getName()); So, when using functional programming approach is overhead and when it's not and why? Isn't my usage of functional programming approach in snippet 1 is an overhead and why?

  • HTML-like GUI Framework in Java

    - by wintermute
    I was recently brought onto a project where we are developing a lot GUI elements for BlackBerry devices. The standard RIM APIs are pretty basic, almost never do what is required and are difficult or impossible to extend, so we end up re-implementing chunks of it. Currently the code we have isn't super organized and factored so there are lots of little tricks that get implemented over and over again. I had a thought about how to aid development efforts on this platform and wanted to see if the community could tell me if I'm still sane or if I've gone totally nuts. By far, the biggest organizational problem I've run into is making sure that each screen is laid out properly with proper padding and such. The current approach is to manually keep track of padding like so: protected void sublayout(int width, int height) { final int padding = 5; int y = padding; int x = padding; layoutChild(_someChild, width - padding * 2, height / 3 - padding * 2); setPositionChild(_someChild, x, y); y += _someChild.getHeight() + padding; // Calculate where to start drawing next. /* ... snipped ... */ } As you can see, positioning elements on a screen is a nightmare due to the tedium. I have investigated other GUI frameworks but, for a variety of reasons, it is difficult to find one that suites our purposes. One potential solution that came to me is to create a GUI framework who's API resembles HTML/CSS. This would allow for things like padding, margins, borders and colours to be handled through a sort of CSS API while the content would be organized using the HTML part of the API. It might look something like this: public class OptionsScreen extends Document { public OptionsScreen() { // You would set the style (like CSS style) through the constructor. Div content = new Div(new Style(new Padding(5), Color.BLACK)); // Then build up a tree of elements which can each have their own style's. // Each element knows how to draw itself, but it doesn't have to worry about // manually handling things like padding. // content.addChild(new P("This is a paragraph", new Style(new Padding(), Color.RED))); Ul list = new Ul(); list.addChild(new Li("item 1")); list.addChild(new Li("item 2")); content.addChild(list); addChild(content); } } I can imagine this making it easier to customize the UI of our app (which is very important) with different fonts, colours and layouts. Does this idea belong on The Daily WTF or do you think there is some promise?

  • Java accessing variables using extends

    - by delo
    So here I have two classes: Customer Order Class and Confirmation Class. I want to access the data stored in LastNameTextField (Customer Order Class) and set it as the text for UserLastNameLabel (Confirmation Class) after clicking a "Submit" button. For some reason however, the output displays nothing. Snippet of my code: package customer_order; public class customer_order extends Frame{ private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L; private JPanel jPanel = null; private JLabel LastNameLabel = null; protected JTextField LastNameTextField = null; private JButton SubmitButton = null; public String s; public customer_order() { super(); initialize(); } private void initialize() { this.setSize(729, 400); this.setTitle("Customer Order"); this.add(getJPanel(), BorderLayout.CENTER); } /** * This method initializes LastNameTextField * * @return javax.swing.JTextField */ public JTextField getLastNameTextField() { if (LastNameTextField == null) { LastNameTextField = new JTextField(); LastNameTextField.setBounds(new Rectangle(120, 100, 164, 28)); LastNameTextField.setName("LastNameTextField"); } return LastNameTextField; } /** * This method initializes SubmitButton * * @return javax.swing.JButton */ private JButton getSubmitButton() { if (SubmitButton == null) { SubmitButton = new JButton(); SubmitButton.setBounds(new Rectangle(501, 225, 96, 29)); SubmitButton.setName("SubmitButton"); SubmitButton.setText("Submit"); SubmitButton.addActionListener(new java.awt.event.ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent e) { System.out.println("actionPerformed()"); // TODO Auto-generated Event stub actionPerformed() //THE STRING I WANT s = LastNameTextField.getText(); java.awt.EventQueue.invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { new confirmation().setVisible(true); } }); } }); } return SubmitButton; } package customer_order; public class confirmation extends customer_order{ private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L; private JPanel jPanel = null; // @jve:decl-index=0:visual-constraint="58,9" private JLabel LastNameLabel = null; private JLabel UserLastNameLabel = null; // @jve:decl-index=0: /** * This method initializes frame * * @return java.awt.Frame */ public confirmation() { super(); initialize(); } private void initialize() { this.setSize(729, 400); this.setTitle("Confirmation"); this.add(getJPanel(), BorderLayout.CENTER); } /** * This method initializes jPanel * * @return javax.swing.JPanel */ private JPanel getJPanel() { if (jPanel == null) { UserLastNameLabel = new JLabel(); UserLastNameLabel.setBounds(new Rectangle(121, 60, 167, 26)); //THE PROBLEM?   • Java consistent synchronization

    - by ring0
    We are facing the following problem in a Spring service, in a multi-threaded environment: three lists are freely and independently accessed for Read once in a while (every 5 minutes), they are all updated to new values. There are some dependencies between the lists, making that, for instance, the third one should not be read while the second one is being updated and the first one already has new values ; that would break the three lists consistency. My initial idea is to make a container object having the three lists as properties. Then the synchronization would be first on that object, then one by one on each of the three lists. Some code is worth a thousands words... so here is a draft private class Sync { final List<Something> a = Collections.synchronizedList(new ArrayList<Something>()); final List<Something> b = Collections.synchronizedList(new ArrayList<Something>()); final List<Something> c = Collections.synchronizedList(new ArrayList<Something>()); } private Sync _sync = new Sync(); ... void updateRunOnceEveryFiveMinutes() { final List<Something> newa = new ArrayList<Something>(); final List<Something> newb = new ArrayList<Something>(); final List<Something> newc = new ArrayList<Something>(); ...building newa, newb and newc... synchronized(_sync) { synchronized(_sync.a) { _synch.a.clear(); _synch.a.addAll(newa); } synchronized(_sync.b) { ...same with newb... } synchronized(_sync.c) { ...same with newc... } } // Next is accessed by clients public List<Something> getListA() { return _sync.a; } public List<Something> getListB() { ...same with b... } public List<Something> getListC() { ...same with c... } The question would be, is this draft safe (no deadlock, data consistency)? would you have a better implementation suggestion for that specific problem? update Changed the order of _sync synchronization and newa... building. Thanks

  • C# XNA 4.0 multitextured cube

    - by chron
    So I am following this tutorial on how to draw a cube in XNA and I ran into a problem. Ok so my shader can only have texture right? I need to have a texture on the front and back of my cube. So I thought I could just have both textures stored in one texture. Problem is I do not know how to map out my UV coords to do so. (I tried dividing by 2 and such with no luck...). I am really new to this (not programming, just game development and some concepts), but how could I get UV coordinates for both halfs of the texture. private void ConstructCube(Vector3 Position,Vector3 Size) { _vertices = new VertexPositionNormalTexture[50]; // Calculate the position of the vertices on the top face.
