  • PHP: creating a smooth edged circle, image or font?

    I'm making a PHP image script that will create circles at a given radius. I used: <?php imagefilledellipse ( $image, $cx, $cy, $w, $h, $color ); ?> but hate the rough edges it produces. So I was thinking of making or using a circle font that I will output using: <?php imagettftext ( $image, $size, $angle, $x, $y, $color, 'fontfile.ttf', $text ); ?> So that the font will produce a circle that has a smooth edge. My problem is making the "font size" match the "radius size". Any ideas? Or maybe a PHP class that will produce a smooth edge on a circle would be great! Thank you.

    On a single/detail Custom Post Page I would like to display a custom nav of li's or divs in a sidebar that displays both title, excerpt and permalink for the next 3 posts within the custom post series. So if we are on custom post 3 then it would show 4, 5, 6 in the sidebar. The closest I've found to this is :-= global $post; $current_post = $post; // remember the current post for($i = 1; $i <= 3; $i++){ $post = get_previous_post(); // this uses $post->ID setup_postdata($post); // do your stuff here the_title(); } $post = $current_post; // restore Problem is this only shows the first next post and I need to show 3.   • Best practices about creating a generic object dictionary in C#? Is this bad?

    For clarity I am using C# 3.5/Asp.Net MVC 2 Here is what I have done: I wanted the ability to add/remove functionality to an object at run-time. So I simply added a generic object dictionary to my class like this: public Dictionary<int, object> Components { get; set; } Then I can add/remove any kind of .Net object into this dictionary at run-time. To insert an object I do something like this: var tag = new Tag(); myObject.Components.Add((int)Types.Components.Tag, tag); Then to retrieve I just do this: if(myObject.Components.ContainsKey((int)Types.Components.Tag)) { var tag = myObject.Components[(int)Types.Components.Tag] as Tag; if(tag != null) { //do stuff } } Somehow I feel sneaky doing this. It works okay, but I am wondering what you guys think about it as a best practice. Thanks for your input, Daniel

  • Is it possible to return a list of numbers from a Sybase function?

    I'm trying to overcome a very serious performance issue in which Sybase refuses to use the primary key index on a large table because one of the required fields is specified indirectly through another table - or, in other words; SELECT ... FROM BIGTABLE WHERE KFIELD = 123 runs in ms but SELECT ... FROM BIGTABLE, LTLTBL WHERE KFIELD = LTLTBL.LOOKUP AND LTLTBL.UNIQUEID = 'STRINGREPOF123' takes 30 - 40 seconds. I've managed to work around this first problem by using a function that basically lets me do this; SELECT ... FROM BIGTABLE WHERE KFIELD = MYFUNC('STRINGREPOF123') which also runs in ms. The problem, however, is that this approach only works when there is a single value returned by MYFUNCT but I have some cases where it may return 2 or 3 values. I know that the SQL SELECT ... FROM BIGTABLE WHERE KFIELD IN (123,456,789) also returns in millis so I'd like to have a function that returns a list of possible values rather than just a single one - is this possible? Sadly the application is running on Sybase ASA 9. Yes I know it is old and is scheduled to be refreshed but there's nothing I can do about it now so I need logic that will work with this version of the DB.     Is it possible to require the user be authenticated (logged in) when downloading ZIP files from my site? Note that I don't have direct control of IIS7. (I'm on a shared hosting account.) I can't simply alter the access for a particular directory because many directories are involved and most contain other files that can be accessed freely. I've Googled this a bit and found similar questions. But I've been unable to find this exact question.

    I am trying to solve a problem, a part of which requires me to calculate (2^n)%1000000007 , where n<=10^9. But my following code gives me output "0" even for input like n=99.   • F#: Can't hide a type abbreviation in a signature? Why not?

    In F#, I'd like to have what I see as a fairly standard Abstract Datatype: // in ADT.fsi module ADT type my_Type // in ADT.fs module ADT type my_Type = int In other words, code inside the module knows that my_Type is an int, but code outside does not. However, F# seems to have a restriction where type abbreviations specifically cannot be hidden by a signature. This code gives a compiler error, and the restriction is described here. If my_Type were instead a discriminated union, then there is no compiler error. My question is, why the restriction? I seem to remember being able to do this in SML and Ocaml, and furthermore, isn't this a pretty standard thing to do when creating an abstract datatype? Thanks

Compiler handles such convertions as errors and won't compile furthermore. It occurs only when I compile using Dev-C++ IDE, but when I compile the same code (using the compiler which Dev-C++ uses) such errors (even warnings) do not appears. How to mute errors of such types?

    How do you create a lookup column to a Document Library that uses the 'Name' of the document as the lookup value? I found a blog post that recommends adding another custom field like "FileName" and then using a item reciever to populate the custom field with the value from the Name field but that seems cheesy.     Hi guys, i'm trying to read contents of PNG file. As you may know, all data is written in a 4-byte manner in png files, both text and numbers. so if we have number 35234 it is save in this way: [1000][1001][1010][0010]. but sometimes numbers are shorter, so the first bytes are zero, and when I read the array and cast it from char* to integer I get wrong number. for example [0000] [0000] [0001] [1011] sometimes numbers are misinterpreted as negative numbers and simetimes as zero! let me give you an intuitive example: char s_num[4] = {120, 80, 40, 1}; int t_num = 0; t_num = int(s_num); => 3215279148 ?????? the result should be 241 but the output is 3215279148? I wish I could explain my problem well! how can i cast such arrays into a single integer value?

  • 404 on custom post types after updating Wordpress to 3.7

    Since I updated Wordpress from 3.6 to 3.7, I'm not able to visit the single-pages on my custom post types, then I get a 404 error. I thought this would be a rewrite_rules issue, so I've tried the following: -Go to the Permalink settings, click save (flush rewrites) -Manually deleted the rewrite_rules from the option table in the DB (I was desparate, and it seriously worked for me one time) -Re-check my .htaccess, but this is the exactly same as instructed on the permalink page -switched off the plugins I also tried switching the permalink to the "ugly" url (eg. ?page=35) and check if the articles worked, and they did! So I'm pretty sure it's a permalink issue. Now I rolled back to 3.6 again, but I of course want to upgrade in the near future (security etc.). A remarkable thing was that during the rollback I checked out a single page (notice that I didn't rolled back the database yet, only the files) and surprisingly they worked again. Any suggestions on how to solve this?

    I have an array of pointers to a base class, so that I can make those pointers point to (different) subclasses of the base class, but still interact with them. (really only a couple of methods which I made virtual and overloaded) I'm wondering if I can avoid using the pointers, and instead just make an array of the base class, but have some way to set the class to the subclass of my choosing. I know there must be something there specifying the class, as it needs to use that to look up the function pointer for virtual methods. By the way, the subclasses all have the same ivars and layout. Note: the design is actually based on using a template argument instead of a variable, due to performance increases, so really the abstract base class is just the interface for the subclasses, which are all the same except for their compiled code.   • Three boolean values saved in one tinyint

    Hello, probably a simple question but I seem to be suffering from programmer's block. :) I have three boolean values: A, B, and C. I would like to save the state combination as an unsigned tinyint (max 255) into a database and be able to derive the states from the saved integer. Even though there are only a limited number of combinations, I would like to avoid hard-coding each state combination to a specific value (something like if A=true and B=true has the value 1). I tried to assign values to the variables so (A=1, B=2, C=3) and then adding, but I can't differentiate between A and B being true from i.e. only C being true. I am stumped but pretty sure that it is possible. Thanks

    In C++ you are allowed to write a return statement that looks like : return ( ... ); which is different from the more popular : return ... ; In particular the first version returns the address/reference of something that is local to the stack of the function which contains that return statement. Now why something would like to return a reference to something that, at that point, has no lifetime ? What are the use case for this idiom ? Considering the new buzzword and features from C++11 and C++14 there is a different usage for this ?
