  • Fixing predicated NSFetchedResultsController/NSFetchRequest performance with SQLite backend?

    - by Jaanus
I have a series of NSFetchedResultsControllers powering some table views, and their performance on device was abysmal, on the order of seconds. Since it all runs on main thread, it's blocking my app at startup, which is not great. I investigated and turns out the predicate is the problem: NSPredicate *somePredicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"ANY somethings == %@", something]; [fetchRequest setPredicate:somePredicate]; I.e the fetch entity, call it "things", has a many-to-many relation with entity "something". This predicate is a filter that limits the results to only things that have a relation with a particular "something". When I removed the predicate for testing, fetch time (the initial performFetch: call) dropped (for some extreme cases) from 4 seconds to around 100ms or less, which is acceptable. I am troubled by this, though, as it negates a lot of the benefit I was hoping to gain with Core Data and NSFRC, which otherwise seems like a powerful tool. So, my question is, how can I optimize this performance? Am I using the predicate wrong? Should I modify the model/schema somehow? And what other ways there are to fix this? Is this kind of degraded performance to be expected? (There are on the order of hundreds of <1KB objects.) EDIT WITH DETAILS: Here's the code: [fetchRequest setFetchLimit:200]; NSLog(@"before fetch"); BOOL success = [frc performFetch:&error]; if (!success) { NSLog(@"Fetch request error: %@", error); } NSLog(@"after fetch"); Updated logs (previously, I had some application inefficiencies degrading the performance here. These are the updated logs that should be as close to optimal as you can get under my current environment): 2010-02-05 12:45:22.138 Special Ppl[429:207] before fetch 2010-02-05 12:45:22.144 Special Ppl[429:207] CoreData: sql: SELECT DISTINCT 0, t0.Z_PK, t0.Z_OPT, <model fields> FROM ZTHING t0 LEFT OUTER JOIN Z_1THINGS t1 ON t0.Z_PK = t1.Z_2THINGS WHERE t1.Z_1SOMETHINGS = ? ORDER BY t0.ZID DESC LIMIT 200 2010-02-05 12:45:22.663 Special Ppl[429:207] CoreData: annotation: sql connection fetch time: 0.5094s 2010-02-05 12:45:22.668 Special Ppl[429:207] CoreData: annotation: total fetch execution time: 0.5240s for 198 rows. 2010-02-05 12:45:22.706 Special Ppl[429:207] after fetch If I do the same fetch without predicate (by commenting out the two lines in the beginning of the question): 2010-02-05 12:44:10.398 Special Ppl[414:207] before fetch 2010-02-05 12:44:10.405 Special Ppl[414:207] CoreData: sql: SELECT 0, t0.Z_PK, t0.Z_OPT, <model fields> FROM ZTHING t0 ORDER BY t0.ZID DESC LIMIT 200 2010-02-05 12:44:10.426 Special Ppl[414:207] CoreData: annotation: sql connection fetch time: 0.0125s 2010-02-05 12:44:10.431 Special Ppl[414:207] CoreData: annotation: total fetch execution time: 0.0262s for 200 rows. 2010-02-05 12:44:10.457 Special Ppl[414:207] after fetch 20-fold difference in times. 500ms is not that great, and there does not seem to be a way to do it in background thread or otherwise optimize that I can think of. (Apart from going to a binary store where this becomes a non-issue, so I might do that. Binary store performance is consistently ~100ms for the above 200-object predicated query.) (I nested another question here previously, which I now moved away).

  • AuthSub target path prefix does not match the provided "next" URL

    - by dweebsonduty
I am trying to use the Gcal API in PHP. I am using the ZEND framework function getAuthSubUrl($company) { $next = "http://$company.mysite.com"; $scope = 'http://www.google.com/calendar/feeds/'; $secure = false; $session = true; return (Zend_Gdata_AuthSub::getAuthSubTokenUri($next, $scope, $secure, $session)); } $authSubUrl = getAuthSubUrl(); echo "<a href=\"$authSubUrl\">login to your Google account"</a> I am not sure what I am doing wrong here. I am following the google example almost exactly. They do have $next = getCurrentUrl(); in their expample but I am getting undefined errors when I try that.

  • How to control the download url for dotNetFx35setup.exe without using the Visual Studio bootstrapper

    - by tronda
Previously I've used to Visual Studio 2008 setup.bin to generate a bootstrapper. I had some issues with it which were difficult to resolve and turned to dotNetInstaller. One great thing with the VS 2008 generated bootstrapper, was that I was able to control the download location for the .NET framework. By using the MSBuild task I could specify the componentsLocation: <GenerateBootstrapper ApplicationFile="$(TargetFileName)" ApplicationName="MyApp" ApplicationUrl="http://$(InstallerHost)$(DownloadUrl)" BootstrapperItems="@(BootstrapperFile)" CopyComponents="True" ComponentsLocation="Relative" OutputPath="$(OutputPath)" Path="C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\Bootstrapper\" /> Here I'm able to use the ComponentsLocation="Relative" and the bootstrapper would download from our own web server - which is what I want. When I no longer have the VS 2008 bootstrapper, I would like to have the same feature. The new boostrapper downloads the dotNetFx35setup.exe from a defined server, but the problem is that this ".NET bootstrapper" connects to Microsoft's servers for downloading the needed packages. Trying to run the following command: dotNetFx35setup.exe /? did not show any options to control the download location. The web server will contain the package structure which the Windows SDK (v6.0A) has within the Bootstrapper\Packages directory. The structure looks like this: Packages DotNetFX DotNetFX30 DotNetFX35 DotNetFx35Client DotNetFx35SP1 ..... When I state a dependency to the .NET Framework 3.5, the DotNetFX35 directory structure gets copied into the bin/Debug directory. I've copied this directory onto the web server and it looks like this: DotNetFX35 dotNetFX20 dotNetFX30 dotNetFX35 x64 netfx35_x64.exe x86 netfx35_x86.exe dotNetMSP dotNetFx35setup.exe The other directories contains mainly MSI, MSP and MSU files. So any pointers on how to control downloading of the .NET framework. Shouldn't I use the dotNetFx35setup.exe file? If not - which should I use?

  • how to add a url cache to ASIHttpRequest

    - by smokey_the_bear
I'm using ASIHttpRequests and an ASINetworkQueue in an iphone app to retrieve some 100k XML files and a lot of thumbnails from a web service. I'd like to cache the requests in the style of NSURLCache. ASI doesn't seem to support caching as is, and I looked at the code and it drops to C to create the requests, so inserting the NSURLCache layer seemed tricky. What's the best way to implement this?

  • Passing variable to Google Charts URL

    - by Rob A
Hi All, This is probably something really simple, however I am quite new to PHP, and havent done any HTML in years. I need to get a PHP variable filled with an array of figures into Google Charts. My code for this so far is: <img src="http://chart.apis.google.com/chart? &chs=340x175 &chd=t:<?=$filedetail[1]?> &cht=lc &chtt=Test "> However, Google reports an error, as it stops at the ?=$filedetail[1] for some reason. It doesnt seem that reading the variable is the problem, more that the API simply cant read past the start of the PHP tags. Thanks, Rob A.

  • Spring MVC absolute URL problem

    - by Umar
Background I am developing an application (with Spring MVC) with its base path as: http://localhost:8080/myapplication/ I have a stylesheet /css/style.css that I am trying to refer with absolute path in a JSP as: <link rel="stylesheet" href="/css/style.css" type="text/css" media="screen, projection"> Problem The stylesheet never loads in the browser. When I follow the stylesheet link through browser's view source feature, the link appears to be: http://localhost:8080/css/style.css Which should have had been: http://localhost:8080/myapplication/css/style.css I used to fix this issue with html:rewrite tag while working with Struts. Is there any equivalent tag/technique in Spring MVC? Thanks for your time.

  • Rails: Open HTTP URL From HTTPS site

I have a rails application running on SSL. I also have setup Piwik (for analytics) and it is running non-secure i.e. HTTP. When I try to make a call to Piwik API from my ruby code (the application running on SSL) it gives me the following error: SocketError (getaddrinfo: Name or service not known): /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:560:in initialize' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:560:inopen' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:560:in connect' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/timeout.rb:53:intimeout' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/timeout.rb:93:in timeout' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:560:inconnect' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:553:in do_start' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:542:instart' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:379:in get_response' app/controllers/piwik_charts_controller.rb:195:inmake_graph' It works perfect when I make call from an application running on HTTP. • Nested Routes and Parameters for Rails URLs (Best Practice)

    - by viatropos
Hey there, I have a decent understanding of RESTful urls and all the theory behind not nesting urls, but I'm still not quite sure how this looks in an enterprise application, like something like Amazon, StackOverflow, or Google... Google has urls like this: http://code.google.com/apis/ajax/ http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/staticmaps/ https://www.google.com/calendar/render?tab=mc Amazon like this: http://www.amazon.com/books-used-books-textbooks/b/ref=sa_menu_bo0?ie=UTF8&node=283155&pf_rd_p=328655101&pf_rd_s=left-nav-1&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_i=507846&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1PK4ZKN4YWJJ9B86ANC9 http://www.amazon.com/Ruby-Programming-Language-David-Flanagan/dp/0596516177/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1258755625&sr=1-1 And StackOverflow like this: http://stackoverflow.com/users/169992/viatropos http://stackoverflow.com/questions/tagged/html http://stackoverflow.com/questions/tagged?tagnames=html&sort=newest&pagesize=15 So my question is, what is best practice in terms of creating urls for systems like these? When do you start storing parameters in the url, when don't you? These big companies don't seem to be following the rules so hotly debated in the ruby community (that you should almost never nest URLs for example), so I'm wondering how you go about implementing your own urls in larger scale projects because it seems like the idea of not nesting urls breaks down at anything larger than a blog. Any tips?

  • hpricot throws exception when trying to parse url which has noscript tag

    - by anusuya
I use hpricot gem in ruby on rails to parse a webpage and extract the meta-tag contents. But if the website has a <noscrpit> tag just after the <head> tag it throws an exception Exception: undefined method `[]' for nil:NilClass I even tried to update the gem to the latest version. but still the same. this is the sample code i use. require 'rubygems' require 'hpricot' require 'open-uri' begin index_page = Hpricot(open("http://sample.com")) puts index_page.at("/html/head/meta[@name='verification']")['content'].gsub(/\s/, "") rescue Exception => e puts "Exception: #{e}" end i was thinking to remove the noscript tag before giving the webpage to hpricot. or is there anyother way to do it??

  • django cross-site reverse a url

    - by tutuca
I have a similar question than django cross-site reverse. But i think I can't apply the same solution. I'm creating an app that lets the users create their own site. After completing the signup form the user should be redirected to his site's new post form. Something along this lines: new_post_url = 'http://%s.domain:9292/manage/new_post %site.domain' logged_user = authenticate(username=user.username, password=user.password) if logged_user is not None: login(request, logged_user) return redirect(new_product_url) Now, I know that "new_post_url" is awful and makes babies cry so I need to reverse it in some way. I thought in using django.core.urlresolvers.reverse to solve this but that only returns urls on my domain, and not in the user's newly created site, so it doesn't works for me. So, do you know a better/smarter way to solve this?

  • Scrape HTML tables from a given URL into CSV

    - by dreeves
I seek a tool that can be run on the command line like so: tablescrape 'http://someURL.foo.com' [n] If n is not specified and there's more than one HTML table on the page, it should summarize them (header row, total number of rows) in a numbered list. If n is specified or if there's only one table, it should parse the table and spit it to stdout as CSV or TSV. Potential additional features: To be really fancy you could parse a table within a table, but for my purposes -- fetching data from wikipedia pages and the like -- that's overkill. The Perl module HTML::TableExtract can do this and may be good place to start for writing the tool I have in mind. An option to asciify any unicode. An option to apply an arbitrary regex substitution for fixing weirdnesses in the parsed table. How ever when i access the Application by using https://apps.facebook.com/myApp then i get an error The state does not match. • A definitive guide to Url Encoding in ASP .NET

    - by cbp
I am starting to realise that there are about a bazillion different methods for encoding urls in .NET. I keep finding new ones. They all work slightly differently, but they all have essentially the same summary comments. Does anyone have a definitive matrix that shows the exact differences between the following methods: HttpUtility.UrlEncode HttpUtility.UrlPathEncode Server.UrlEncode Uri.EscapeUriString Uri.EscapeDataString ... are they any more? Also it would be good to match these up with use-cases e.g.: Urls in href attributes of a tags Urls to be displayed to the user in HTML Urls as querystring values (i.e. to be sent in GET requests) Urls to be sent in POST requests etc

  • iPhone SDK: URL request not timing out.

    - by codemercenary
I am having a problem with a network request that should timeout, but the method is not called. The request is as follows: #define kCONNECT_TIMEOUT 20.0 request = [NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL: aUrl]; [request setHTTPMethod: @"POST"]; postData = [jsonData dataUsingEncoding:NSASCIIStringEncoding]; [request setHTTPBody:postData]; [request setValue:@"text/xml" forHTTPHeaderField:@"Accept"]; [request setValue:@"application/json" forHTTPHeaderField:@"Content-Type"]; [request setCachePolicy:NSURLCacheStorageAllowed]; [request setTimeoutInterval:kCONNECT_TIMEOUT]; self.connection = [NSURLConnection connectionWithRequest:request delegate:self]; assert(self.connection != nil); This should get a callback to - (void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didFailWithError:(NSError *)_error But after 4 minutes not error message is displayed. Anyone know why this might be?

  • SEO Friendly URL Rewriter Parameters

    - by Kristen
I would appreciate you advice on how to incorporate parameters into SEO Friendly URLs We have decided to have the "techie" parameters first, followed by the "SEO Slug" \product\ABC123\fly-your-own-helicopter much like S.O. - if the SEO Slug changes, or is truncated, or missing, we still have the Product and ABC123 parameters; various articles say that having such extra data doesn't harm SEO ranking. We need to have additional parameters; we could use "-" to separate parameters as it makes them look similar to the SEO Slug, or we could/should use something else? \product\ABC123-BOYTOY-2\boys\toys\fly-your-own-helicopter This is product=ABC123, in Category=BOYTOY and Page=2. We also want to keep the hierarchy as flat as possible, and thus I think: \product-ABC123-BOYTOY-2\boys\toys\fly-your-own-helicopter would be better - one level less. We have a number of "zones", e.g. \product-ABC123\seo-slug-for-product \category-BOYTOY\seo-slug-for-category \article-54321\terms-and-conditions it would help us a lot if we could just user our 5 digit Page ID number instead, so these would become \12345-ABC123\seo-slug-for-product \23456-BOYTOY\seo-slug-for-category \54321\terms-and-conditions (Products & Categories have a number of different Page IDs for different templates, this style would take us straight to the right one) I would appreciate your insight into what parameter separators to use, and if the leading techi-data is going work well for us. In case relevant: Classic ASP application on IIS7 + MSSQL2008 Product & Category codes contain A-Z, 0-9, "_" only.

  • Build error with variables and url_for in Flask

    - by Rob
Have found one or two people on the interwebs with similar problems, but haven't seen a solution posted anywhere. I'm getting a build error from the code/template below, but can't figure out where the issue is or why it's occurring. It appears that the template isn't recognizing the function, but don't know why this would be occurring. • Django: Password protect photo url's?

    - by MikeN
From my Django application I want to serve up secure photos. The photos are not for public consumption, I only want logged in users to have the ability to view them. I don't want to rely on obfuscated file id's (giving a photo a UUID of a long number) and count on that being hidden in my media folder. How would I store a photo securely on disk in my database and only stream it out to an authenticated session?

  • Storing URLs while Spidering

    - by itemio
I created a little web spider in python which I'm using to collect URLs. I'm not interested in the content. Right now I'm keeping all the visited URLs in a set in memory, because I don't want my spider to visit URLs twice. Of course that's a very limited way of accomplishing this. So what's the best way to keep track of my visited URLs? Should I use a database? * which one? MySQL, sqlite, postgre? * how should I save the URLs? As a primary key trying to insert every URL before visiting it? Or should I write them to a file? * one file? * multiple files? how should I design the file-structure? I'm sure there are books and a lot of papers on this or similar topics. Can you give me some advice what I should read?
