  • Use an audio/video file from a Linux laptop via USB to be played by Magic Sing ET-23H

    I am one of the technical directors of a regular karaoke contest event. For the karaoke contest itself, due to tight budget, we are using what one of the sponsors are providing - Magic Sing ET-23H . The video output of the Magic Sing ET-23H are broadcasted at two big screens that are being shown to the audience and event attendees. When a karaoke contestant provides his / her karaoke video, the video itself is in a readable USB flashdrive and is attached to the USB input of Magic Sing ET-23H. What really bugs me is that the interface of Magic Sing ET-23H are also being broadcasted at the big screen video feeds. The interface of choosing the video file is being seen in the Magic Sing ET-23H - also to the big video screens that are seen by the audience and event goers. I will post in the comments ( if my less than 10 reputation would allow me) the picture of Magic Sing ET-23KH USB input of the device. I always bring my laptop, Acer AS5742-7653, during the regular karaoke event. I'm using my laptop also for tallying of scores from the judges, and also playing audio files from contestants that did not provide a karaoke video. I personally am using different Linux distros, but I next to all the time use my Ubuntu Studio 12.04.3 64bit partition during the regular karaoke contest event. My question is this: Is there a way I can share a temporary video/audio file directly from the laptop I'm using, going to the Magic Sing ET-23H that can broadcast both the video/audio file? Just like how in Window's Avisynth AVS files, or VirtualDub's temporary avi file, or like using ffplay (of ffmpeg), etc. I have researched somewhat the matter and found links in SuperUser.com. Though I can only provide the links at the comments section of this post if my reputation of less than 10 would allow me. I have a hunch it is possible, but I have not fully understood the device being used at the event, Magic Sing ET-23H, if there are other ways for it to broadcast video and audio files besides its USB input. Any help to my current predicament is highly appreciated. Thank you.     I have a USB stick with a Fedora 11 live environment on it. It's booting fine on 3 PCs where I've tried it. But I can't get it to boot on a Mac (Intel). When pressing the alt key (or command key, I don't remember which one) during startup I can only choose the "Macintosh HD" and the USB stick doesn't appear.

    I want to know how is data I/O takes place on flash drives which are typically EEPROM's . I thought so as I was writing a C Program that involves file handling . For a normal HDD , that would involve returning the file pointer and reading or writing data to the disk which would be done by read/write HEAD . While in EEPROM's there is no read/write head , as it's works on mnemonic commands , So how come does the C file handling program works when I apply it to a file on flash drive ?

    I'm interested in the actual real-word throughput attainable with an external 1000BaseT USB 2.0 network card under Linux. I have been able to attain 90 megabytes per second on a PCI-E interface, but the USB 2.0 bus has a theoretical limit of 480Mbit/s, and in practice less than 40 megabytes per second. Is the actual throughput attainable with such a card under linux 40, 30, 20, or even as low as 10 megabytes per second, eg. no better than a normal 100BaseT network card?

  • Toggle-able USB hub with more than one input and output?

Ideally, I'm looking for a USB hub-like device that can accept at least two devices for input, and toggle those two devices between at least 2 PC's. The hub linked above appears to be only able to accept one device. Does anyone know of such a product?

    We are working on a project that would be a competitor to Yudu for online publishing and what we are debating is whether to use Flash for content security protection as Yudu does. See for example "The Testicle Cookbok" for which a limited (3-frame) preview is available before a password is requested by the Flash application running in the browser. Do you see any problems with this approach or could you recommend an alternative technology for password proected digital content?

  • Pseudorandom crashes in Flash Debugger - My bad, or Abode's?

    I'm working on a large-size dual AS3/Flex project (some parts are pure AS3, other parts are Flex), and I'm experiencing a lot of Flash Debugger crashes. These crashes aren't completely random - it seems like I can get them to occur with greater consistency when I perform certain actions in my app. However, at the same time, they aren't consistently repeatable - sometimes a set of actions causes my app to crash, and other times, the same steps execute fine without a crash. I have two questions (carefully worded to remove my personal bias :) ) Are these crashes due to my coding practices, or Adobe's Flash Debugger? When I deploy my app on a web site and access it via Flash Player, should I expect the same crashes to occur, or is Flash Player considerably more resilient than Flash Debugger?   • How to upload binary (audio) data from a Flash AS3 client to .NET server (WCF/REST/HTTP/?)?

    Simply stated: I'm trying to record audio in a browser, and get that data back up to the server. I originally tried to capture, encode and upload the audio using Silverlight, but because of the lack of suitable client-side encoding options, I'm now giving Flash a shot (Flash has baked-in support for encoding to Speex). I think I've figured out how to capture and encode the audio... But now what was easy in Silverlight, is the challenge in Flash. My server-side is .NET: MVC2- I'm open to receiving the audio in whatever manner is best- REST, WCF.. So that's my question: How could one upload binary data from Flash, to a .NET server-side endpoint. If the answer is WCF: then how would one setup the client-side proxies to communicate with the service? If the answer is REST or HTTP Post, then how would one construct this HTTP request and pass along the data? I've been reading up on AS3, but am new to Flash dev... Thanks for any help!

  • How do I fix a font compatibilty issue from Mac to Windows, using Adobe Flash CS4?

    Hi, I need to edit a Flash movie that somebody else developed in Adobe Flash CS3 on a Mac. I'm using Adobe Flash CS4 on Windows (Vista). However, the font that shows up on my computer is much bigger than on the .SWF that he produced. He used a custom font, which I had to add to my system Fonts folder. Because Adobe Flash detected the right fonts on my computer, it didn't map them to substitute fonts. I verified that Flash is indeed using the same font files that he used. I believe the fonts are being rendered differently because I'm using Windows. How do I fix this?

    Hi guys. I made a website using AJAX (with jquery) for the navigation. The pages of the site are sliding and I use remove() to destroy the old page. Every thing seems alright, but some times the browser crashes when he tries to remove the old page containing a Flash object. I suppose this is because Flash is still executing the Flash object. My question is simple. How do i remove this Flash's object for my page without having the browser crashing on my face ? Is there a way to stop the Flash execution before removing the object ?     Getting this short: Can current flow from a powered USB hub's power adapter (lying 10 Meter away) back to computer via usb port and cause damage to Computer components like mobo, etc? What should be my concerns? Using a 2 Amp 5V Power adapter to power a 10m Long Active Repeater USB extension cable with 4 port HUB & plugging into PC's Front port, causes PC Chassis fan to keep running (thought slower than regular speed) Front Chassis HDD & power LED to turn on (though bit dim) may be other things which i cant detect/see at chip level, in motherboard?? All this even after PC is shut down (bit scary) More detail (in case still want to read): To run 4 High power (needing 450 mAmps) Wifi Adapters, far away from PC, Bought Active Repeater USB Extension Cable with 4 Ports & power port at far end http://www.ebay.com/itm/33FT-USB-2-0-Male-to-Female-Extension-Cable-Hub-Splitter-Adapter-with-4-USB-Port-/390846115254 Then added a locally bought 2 Amp 240V AC to 5V DC Power Adapter and plugged into USB hub which is a part of & situated at far end of a 10 Meter Active Repeater usb extension cable. Even 4 Wifi Adapters run fine (appear to) using this setup, but running chassis fan, dimly lighted Power & HDD LED, even when PC is switched off is bit scary and surely mean 5V & some current is flowing all though that 10 meter extension cable into my USB port & powering stuff. Can this cause damage? and what should be my concerns. Of course I can't switch off the power adapter (lying 10 meters away from PC) every time I switch off my PC to prevent this.

  • What usb-bootable utility should I use to copy SATA hard drives?

    I have a computer that only has two SATA connections and I need to copy one SATA hard drive to another. Since I have to unplug the CD drive to copy the drives I need a USB-bootable utility. I have an old school copy of Norton Ghost (CD based): Ghost has always worked well for me in the past - I see there is a new "version 15" out but I'm not sure if it is worth buying. A friend has Acronis True Image on a USB drive: We tried to use that on the computer but it was unable to copy both partitions (restore partition and main partition). Of course there may be some problem with the drive that is keeping Acronis from working (it is just exiting with a lame error about not being able to copy the disks and no error code or detailed information), but I'm interested in knowing if there is a better, more solid, or widely used solution that I should invest in. What usb-bootable utilities can I use to copy SATA hard drives?

  • My hard drive seems to be overheating... what should I do?

    After a cold boot, the hard drive in my notebook jumps to 56? within an hour or so of idling. Is 56? a cause for alarm? Notes: The notebook is on a flat desk and none of the vents are obstructed. The video card is currently at 55? and the CPU at 50?. It's a Western Digital 250GB hard drive. SMART reports the drive healthy but does warn that: Edit: this problem had a very surprise ending. I inverted the notebook and unscrewed some of the panels on the back (there was one covering the hard drive, and one that provided access to the memory). I couldn't see any dust, so I simply screwed everything back together and powered it on... and it worked! The temperature is now staying at 46?, and it feels notable cooler to the touch. So I can only assume that some internal fan was malfunctioning or something. Whatever the case, it's working now so I won't complain. Edit: I have an SSD now, so temperature isn't as big an issue as it was when I had a mechanical drive.

  • How do you recommend installing Linux on a computer that has no external drive or ability to boot fr

    I have an old Toshiba Portege 3505 "ultralight" laptop, meaning it doesn't have any kind of disk drive on it at all, that I'd like to completely reformat and install Linux on. However, it won't boot from any drive (and I don't have any on hand), so I'll have to install it from a USB drive (which I doubt it boots from either). (I'm not sure how to change the settings in my BIOS to get my computer to boot from a USB stick. Any ideas for this?) How do you recommend I do this? I want to note that I don't want to run Linux off a LiveUSB, I want to actually install it on the machine. I was thinking about Damn Small Linux, it's tiny and all I need. Any advice or suggestions for something else though? Finally, I'm a total newbie to this, I've never installed Linux on anything before so I might be a little slow on some stuff! Thanks!

  • Paused BitLocker encryption because no longer want to encrypt the hard drive - how do I get out of encrypting?

    I'm hoping someone can help. I'm not a techy and can't seem to find the same question already answered. I went to encrypt (using BitLocker) a Buffalo hard drive but after it took about 1 min to reach 0.2% 'encrypted' I decided to pause and eject, thinking this would have ended the encryption process. However, I had already assigned a password to it on the instruction pre the encryption beginning. I've since connected my hard drive again and I'm asked to input the password. If I don't I cannot access the drive. However, if I do, I CAN access the files but straight away the little BitLocker Drive Encryption dialogue box comes up saying Encryption in progress.. which I have the option to Pause. So I hit Pause straight away as I do not want to go through with the encryption. Is there any way I can stop the process and decrypt before encryption is completed? Or am I forever going to need to Pause quickly and eject. I fear that will affect my hard drive longer term. Thanks.

    Possible Duplicate: How to move the page file to another physical disk location Windows 7 I was given temporarily a PC, running Windows 7 Ultimate. The problem is it's hard drive is full, there are like 250 MB free. The swap file is set to none. It has 4 GB RAM. When I load a few tabs in Chrome or IE and start a game it runs out of memory. I already emptied Recycle Bin, %temp%, etc. Deleting/moving user files or adding RAM is not an option. Now I have a USB 3 7200 RPM drive, it's connected to a USB 3 port and is really fast. Is there a way to create a swap file on that drive?

  • Hard drive had reallocated sectors...but now it magically doesn't! Can I trust it?

    Last week my SMART diagnostics utility, CrystalDiskInfo, reported that the external hard drive that I was saving my backups to had suddenly reported 900+ reallocated sectors. I double-checked to confirm, then ordered a replacement drive. I spent all of this week copying data from that drive to the new drive. But toward the end of the copy, something peculiar happened. CrystalDiskInfo popped up an alert that the reallocated sector count had gone back down to 0. I know that when SMART detects a read error on a block, it adds that block to the current pending reallocation list. If it subsequently is successfully written or read later, it is removed from the list and assumed to be fine, but if a subsequent write fails, it is marked bad and added to the reallocated sector count. What concerns me most is that I've never read anywhere that a sector can be recovered as "good" after it has been marked as a bad sector and remapped. I've just finished running an extended SMART diagnostic, and it found no surface errors. Now I'm doubtful that the manufacturer will honor a warranty claim if the SMART info does not report any problems. Has anyone had this happen? If so, then is the drive, indeed, okay, or should I be concerned about an imminent failure?
