• Add Properties Back to the Context Menu in Firefox

  Have you noticed that the Properties Command has been removed from the Context Menu in Firefox 3.6? If you have been missing it here is how to get it back. Before With the newest version of Firefox you may have noticed a very useful command missing from the “Context Menu”. Here you can see that when we right clicked on the article link we were unable to “access” the properties for it… Same article and the same problem when trying to “access” the properties for one of the images. After Once you have installed the extension you can once again “access” the properties for those links… And those images… Looking very good… Conclusion If you have been frustrated with the removal of the “Properties Command” from the “Context Menu” in Firefox 3.6, you can now add it back in just a few moments. • GDM Won't Automatically Start After Boot

  Ubuntu 10.04 Hi guys. I'm not sure why but quite recently, my ubuntu desktop started bringing up the command prompt login screen after booting. I want GDM to start up by default. I can manually bring up GDM by typing: sudo service gdm start or sudo /usr/sbin/gdm but I want something more permanent. The contents of /etc/X11/default-display-manager point to /usr/sbin/gdm The chkconfig status for GDM shows that it's off on all run levels... could that be it? I tried running: sudo chkconfig --add gdm and just got errors... Any ideas? How can I get GDM to automatically come up again? Any/all help is appreciated! -M

• Read Linux-formatted (ext3) EBS volume mounted on Windows Server 2008 instance

  I've got a Windows Server 2008 R2 instance set up in Amazon EC2. I've also got some Ubuntu instances on the same EC2 account. I'd like to be able to mount the EBS volume from one of the Ubuntu instances onto the Windows instance as an external drive and then access that drive from the Windows instance. I've looked at tools like ext2fsd and ext2 IFS, but these haven't worked (I couldn't get the former to work, and the latter says that it supports Windows 2008 but gives an error when I try to install it, saying that it only supports up to Windows 2003). I know that there are all kinds of tools to view Linux partitions and that there are filesystems that are compatible with both Linux and Windows, but neither of those options works here (I want to be able to attach and detach the Ubuntu volumes on command, rather than have a permanent partition, and Ubuntu EBS volumes are ext3 by default). Anybody know a good tool I should use?

  have main office pfsense firewall configured like this: local networks WAN - internet LAN - local network VOIP - IP phones need to connect remote offices (multi-users) and single remote users (from home) use IPSEC or OpenVPN to build "permanent" automatically connecting tunnels from remote location to main location. in remote locations, network will look like this: WAN - internet LAN - local network multiple users VOIP - multiple IP phones in order for the IP phones to work they have to be able to "see" the VOIP network and the VOIP server back at the main office for single remote users ( like from home ) the setup will be similar but only one phone and one computer so questions: best way to tie networks together? IPSEC or OpenVPN can this be setup to automatically connect ? any issues/suggestions with that design/topology ? QoS or issues with running the VOIP traffic over a VPN throughput, quality etc.. obviously depends on remote locations connection to some degree

• LFD always stops working after ~30 days, until I give /etc/csf/csf.pl -r

I don't know much about CSF/LFD, but I would have imagined that this would work in a FIFO manner, so it should be able to run indefinitely within finite space. • Taskbar disappears sometimes when using a second monitor

  Windows 7 laptop, docked with a second monitor. This problem started happening when I started using the second monitor. The taskbar will often stop displaying. The Windows logo remains, but the bar, system tray, clock, and any icons for minimized programs disappear. I can see part of my desktop wallpaper where the taskbar should be. The taskbar is not set to auto-hide. Killing the explorer.exe process and starting it again temporarily fixes this. Is there a permanent solution? Thanks!

Given the modules rundll32.exe is running, do you know which running module(s) would prevent the USB drive from being safely removed, and if so is there a more permanent straightforward solution such as changing an automatic service (the list from services.msc) into a disabled/manual service or maybe something else you can think of?

• What can I do to prevent my user folder from being tampered with by malicious software?

  Let's assume some things: Back-ups do run every X minutes, yet the things I save should be permanent. There's a firewall and virus scanner in place, yet there happens to be a zero day attack on me. I am using Windows. (Although feel free to append Linux / OS X parts to your answer) Here is the problem Any software can change anything inside my user folder. Tampering with the files could cost me my life, whether it's accessing / modifying or wiping them. So, what I want to ask is: Is there a permission-based way to disallow programs from accessing my files in any way by default? Extending on the previous question, can I ensure certain programs can only access certain folders? Are there other less obtrusive ways than using Comodo? Or can I make Comodo less obtrusive? For example, the solution should be proof against (DO NOT RUN): del /F /S /Q %USERPROFILE%

• Windows 7 "Backup completed but some files were skipped"

  I set up Windows 7 Pro to backup my files to a network path (woohoo!) and chose to backup "data for newly created users, libraries", and my user folder (no system image). All went fine (although the first backup took ~12 hours for some ridiculous reason), but at the end it gave me a message that "Your backup completed, but some files were skipped. Click to see which files." I checked and the "files" skipped were my 3 network-mapped drives, which is perfectly fine and reasonable behavior (I certainly don't need it to back up my network-mapped drives as part of my local PC backup), but in the Backup and Restore center it warns me that my Last backup was "Never" and the Action Center now has a permanent "Check your backup results" issue. Is there any way to set up the backup to exclude the network-mapped drives or tell it that I really don't mind that it skipped drives I never asked it to back up?

• How to set up server/domain name correctly in hosts file with HTTPS

  I am trying to do local network and I am using these kind of types of network. 1) Main server which connects to internet with static IP 2) Second computer connected to first one locally with address like 192.168.0.2 - when I write this address to address line it is like i wrote localhost in original main server - so it should show my local web browser etc ... It has domain name this IP and connected router for it ... example www.domain.com so I added to my main server hosts file (linux powered) lines like these: 192.168.0.2 domain.com www.domain.com It was working ok when I entered my domain name in local computer it showed my site ... But after some time I added HTTPS cerfiticate and added this line to my apatche server: Redirect permanent / https://www.domain.com/ And now it does not work even when i add something like this to my hosts file: 192.168.0.2 https://www.domain.com So any idea how do do this thing work? • Changing Windows public folder in batch script.

  I've installed Steam on an external hard drive so I can play games on different computers by just moving the drive around. Since save games are often saved in My Documents or AppData, but I want them to move with the external hard drive, I wrote a batch file that sets environment variables before starting steam. setocal set USERPROFILE=%EXTERNAL_LETTER%\Profile\Me set APPDATA=%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming ... start %TARGETAPP% endlocal I'm not sure if this is the right way to do this on Windows, but it seems to work. However, one game saves its games in the Shared Documents folder. I've tried setting %PUBLIC% and %ALLUSERSPROFILE% but that does not seem to affect where the game looks. Is it possible to make this one program use a different Shared Documents folder, either by environment variables or some other means? The change in Shared Documents should only affect the one program, I do not want it to be a permanent or system wide change to Windows.

• Black screen after grub kernal selection menu

  I have an Acer eMachines e727 with Intel GMA 4500M integrated graphics (drivers updated to latest). I installed Ubuntu 12.04 using Wubi. All is well until I select the kernal (first one on the list). My display goes black. I searched for solutions and found one on Unbuntu forum which partially helped. Following that sticky post, I pressed "e" at the kernal listings. I changed the $Linux... default line to "quiet splash nomodeset" and was able to get to the login screen and desktop. I edited grub to make the nomodeset permanent (also removed the vt command as recommended). I followed through with changing grub to match the graphics as recommended in the article using the grub cli (using info from vbeinfo). I updated grub with the recommended settings but still get the black screen after selecting the kernal. Only nomodeset works to get me to the login and desktop.   I have 24" dual monitors with 1920x1080 resolution on both of them. Consequently the text appears so small. I use the following text-intensive applications frequently: Web browser (Google Chrome) IDE (Komodo) Terminal (Gnome Terminal) Email (Thunderbird) I can configure text size on IDE, Terminal and Email. But for Chrome, it is not a good idea to set proportional font size because often one wants to see the entire (not just proportional fonts) site to be zoomed. So I am asking: Is it possible to increase DPI in Ubuntu (much like on Windows) so as to increase the text size across all apps? OR Is it possible to set permanent 'zoom' in Google Chrome, using a third-party extension maybe?

• Is it possible to disable the retry mechanism in Exim

  I have a very simple Exim configuration that's just forwarding all mail to a set of destination addresses. When immediate delivery to an address fails, the message is added to the queue (and then processed by the retry rules). I want to change this so that if immediately delivery fails, the message is :blackhole:d. (It's ok if a bounce is generated instead, as I'll just redirect the bounce to the :blackhole:). This needs to occur for temporary failures (i.e. 4xx) as well as permanent (i.e. 5xx) ones. I understand that this means that if delivery can't be done immediately the message will be permanently and irretrievably lost. In this particular context, that isn't a problem. Reading over this, it sounds suspiciously like "how can I improve my spamming Exim server". That really isn't what this is for, and if you can figure out a way I can prove that, I'm happy to do so!

• Tweaks on nvidia-settings only working when the program is opened

  I have two monitors. The master one (17") is 1yo, and the secondary (15") is really old, like 4yo. This old screen is having problems displaying colors... They are a little bit darker, what is a problem when I'm viewing pics. I have a GeForce 9800, so I changed some settings inside nvidia-settings, that fit better with this second screen. But those settings just are applied when I first open nvidia-settings. First time I configured this, it worked. I turned off computer, next day turned it on, and screen is dark again. As soon as I open nvidia-settings again, the screens get lighter again! How can I make those settings permanent and loaded at startup?

I am using NGiNX 1.2.7. I have another config for the: http://example.com/ So I have one server block for the domain without the subdomain and the second with the subdomain... • Sending Emails via Google SMTP - after some time quit working

  on a website I use PHPMailer to send automated registration emails, etc and also a newsletter-tool (which loops through the emails and sends them one by one). Also, I configured in Gmail under Settings and confirmed @mydomain addresses, so I can send from @mydomain emails without the gmail address being displayed. Furthermore I authorized the website to send mails with this link: https://accounts.google.com/DisplayUnlockCaptcha Now, after 2 month where everything worked perfectly fine, suddenly users started not to receive emails anymore and most recently emails are not even being sent anymore. Also, I received many error messages like this: Technical details of permanent failure: Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 5.4.1 [email protected]: Recipient address rejected: Access Denied (state 13). When I check at this link: https://toolbox.googleapps.com/apps/checkmx/ It tells 2 none critical errors: Relayhost configuration detected. There SHOULD be a valid SPF record. So, the questions I would have were: does anybody have any hint why it stopped working, what the error messages mean? what to do to fix it? where do I set a SPF record (Cpanel?)? what is a relayhost and how to fix that? It is about 1000-1400 mails a day (gmail's limit is 2000). Also, what can I do wrong when setting up an SPF record? I've heard there are some testing tools for that. • If a managed network switch were to overheat, would you consider it no longer reliable?

  Here is the scenario - I have a network switch, one of several in a stack. It's fan failed. Soon, there were reports of users with network issues. After quickly replacing the fan, the users were fine, network issues were resolved. I assume the unit was overheating, and thus failing somehow. Today someone suggested to me, that I should not assume the unit is 100% reliable anymore. So what do you think, would an overheat condition (less than 1 day with the fan stopped) potentially cause permanent damage that could at some point come to the surface as future network failures/issues? If it matters, we are talking managed switches such as 3Com/HP SuperStack , ProCurve or PWR-Plus.
