  • Azure VS Tools and SDK - systray already running&hellip;

    If you are getting a message when you start the Compute Emulator “Systray already running…” from within Visual Studio one fix is to check what the image name is loading is. For some reason, on 2 of my machines the image was loading with the 8.3 format.  This caused the logic in the VS tools to not find the process.  So, to fix, I just did a little copy/rename magic. C:\Program Files\Windows Azure SDK\v1.3\bin>copy csmonitor.exe csmonitor-a.exe 1 file(s) copied. C:\Program Files\Windows Azure SDK\v1.3\bin>del csmonitor.exe C:\Program Files\Windows Azure SDK\v1.3\bin>copy csmonitor-a.exe csmonitor.exe 1 file(s) copied. If you bring up task manager and see something like CSMON~1.EXE in the Image Name column, you probably have this issue.

  • Git workflow for two tight-knit projects

    Two very similar projects I'm maintaining an online Markdown editor using Git as RCS (and accessorily made available on GitHub). From this web app, I've created a Chrome app: the code is the same, aside from some Chrome technicalities. I care about open sourcing these two projects. Still, the Chrome app's code being the same as the web app's except for some dull details, I've first chosen to (1) not publish the Chrome app on GitHub, and (2) not use Git to manage its code. Instead, I would manually review the web app's commits, then replicate the few changes in the Chrome app. … slightly drifting apart However, I've decided to add a feature to the Chrome app only. So, even though both codebases will remain broadly similar, they'll be diverging enough to make me reconsider the rationale behind my initial decision to not version control nor share the Chrome app's source code. Since I'm now willing to use Git to version control both apps, and that I want to share both of them on GitHub, how should I go about it? Should I use two different repositories, or one repo with two long-running branches? What would be the pros and cons of each approach in that context? What would be the easiest/fastest way to regularly "import" commits from the web app to the Chrome app, since the web app is going to remain the master branch? Is cherry-picking the only solution?

  • One email user keeps disconnecting from our exchange server

    I have one user who keeps reporting that Outlook keeps disconnecting from our email server. All other users are fine. Our email server is running Exchange 2010 and the client is running Outlook 2003. The disconnection only lasts a moment. I have checked for logs on the client and Exchange server and can not see any reason for the disconnect, On the Client I get EventId 26 telling me Outlook has disconnected and reconnected but no reason why. Can anyone give me some suggestions of things to try and track down where the problem could be? --Update-- I have found the following log file C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Logging\RPC Client Access which suggests that it is a problem with RPC sessions.   • Server.CreateObject Fails when calling .Net object from ASP on 64-bit windows in IIS 32-bit mode

    I have a server running Windows 2003 64-bit, that runs IIS in 32-bit mode.   • How can you know what is w3wp.exe doing? (or how to diagnose a performance problem)

    I'm having a performance problem in a site we've made, and I'm not exactly sure how to start diagnosing it. The short description is: We have a very small site (http://hearablog.com) with very little traffic, in a crappy dedicated server, CPU is always very high, sometimes it stays at 100% for minutes, and w3wp.exe is taking most of it. A typical scenario is w3wp.exe takes 60%, and SQL Server takes about 30%. Our DB is pretty small too. Long description and more details: The site is hosted in a very crappy server by Cari.Net. From the beginning we had the feeling that the server didn't quite behave correctly, like some things would take just too long, so this could be a configuration problem from the get go. It may also be that we are getting a virtual server while we're supposed to have a dedicated one, although we have no evidence that'd indicate this, except for the fact that the server tends to be quite slow. The server is Windows 2008 Standard 64-bit, with SQL 2008 Express Hardware is a Celeron 2.80 GHz, 1Gb RAM The website is developed in ASP.Net MVC, using Entity Framework for data access. Now, this is pretty crappy hardware, but i've had other servers with these guys, with equivalent (or worse) HW, and performance is much better than this one. That said, the other servers have W2003 and SQL2005, and I'm using ASP.Net "WebForms" 2.0, no MVC, no LINQ, no EF; so I'm not sure whether going to 2008 / the other stuff means a big performance penalty is expected. I'm serving MP3 files (5-20 Mb) regularly, which is a slightly unusual load, maybe that is causing some kind of problems? Would that cause w3wp to use a lot of CPU? Disk usage seems very low. Memory is usually around 90%, but disk usage seems to indicate it's not paging much. I get tons of e-mails every day about SQL timeouts, for queries taking over 30 seconds, although all our queries are pretty straightforward (or should be, but EF may be screwing it up). This is what resource monitor looks like in one of these "sprints" of 100% CPU, in case there's anything useful there. And a snapshot of some performance counters: Now, what confuses me very much is that CPU usage of w3wp is just so high. It shouldn't be doing much really... So my questions are... Is there any way of finding out "what" it is doing? Maybe even profile it? Any performance counters I should be looking at? Is this to be expected given this hardware/software configuration? Is this could be cause by some kind of configuration failure, where would you start looking? Thank you VERY much. Daniel Magliola

    Any ideea why every NSIS setup file(.exe) i download gives CRC error when trying to install. I do not have any firewall installed and also i tried with and withouth a download manager. Also files downloaded with bittorrent have crc errors. But this happens only with setups that were made with NSIS and only on windows 7, on XP they work fine and aloso any other files work except those made with NSIS.

    Is it possible to change the jre parameter values after the exe file is generated through Launch4j? The ideal scenario is like this: The default parameter values are applied when the program is started. However, when the user wants to change some jre parameter values, he goes to a .ini file, MyProgram.ini for example, changes the values there, and the new values will be applied next time the program is started. I think eclipse uses the same way for its memory and some other parameter settings.

    I don't want ConEmu to attach to every cmd I open, but this is how it works now. I remember that I told ConEmu to do this, but I don't want it anymore. Maybe I just overlooked something, but I've read all the settings pages and I couldn't find an option to disable it. Am I missing something? How do I prevent ConEmu from attaching every single cmd.exe I open? My ConEmu version is 121109 x86, on winXPproSp3x86.

  • Possible reasons for high CPU load of taskmgr.exe process on VM?

    On a VMware virtual machine which has severe performance problems I can see a constant average of 20+ percent CPU load for the TASKMGR.EXE (task manager) process. The apps running on this server have lower load, around 4 to 10 percent average. The VM is running Windows 2003 Server Standard with 3.75 GB assigned RAM. I suspect that the task manager CPU load has something to do with other VM instances on the VMWare server but could not see a similar value on internal ESXi systems (the problematic VM runs in the customers IT).

  • IE 8 issue where window.close() is not occuring after winword.exe is fired to print a document

    In my web application, a popup page is called using window.open javascript. There is a Print button on the page that has an onclick event that calls a printchecks() function. The code in the printchecks() function is function printchecks(){ window.print(); window.close(); } Issue is that the window.print brings up the printer dialog fine and then you select a printer. The page is actually then printed and is a reference to an rtf document that opens in winword.exe behind the scenes. For some reason in IE 8, the window.close() does not occur. This worked in IE 7. In both cases, WINWORD.EXE process appears to run in the background after the page is printed but in the case of IE 8, control is not give back to that popup page until the WINWORD.EXE process dies which takes a minute or so. I am thinking that becasue control is not being sent back to the page in IE 8, the page is not closed automatically. You can close the page after control is given back after the minute or so. This does happen in IE on both Windows XP and Windows 7. Any ideas if there is a setting in IE 8 or some other reason this may be occuring?

  • EXE stops working if containing folder is renamed. MSVCP90.dll

    This popup comes up as soon as the app is started: The program can't start because MSVCP90.dll is missing from your computer. Before anyone says "install the VC++ runtimes", wait! If I rename the folder containing my .EXE then the app runs. If I rename it back, it breaks. The app has been running for weeks without any changes to my system/VS installation (2008 SP1), we suddenly spotted this error a few days ago. Lost as to why the name of the dir is causing issues... again this has not changed in months and all our resource paths are relative anyway, e.g "../someOtherDir/...." It doesn't just do this on my PC, we have the /bin dir (the one containing EXE) in SVN and suddenly everyone started seeing the same issue, even though the binaries themselves seem just fine. Is it possible some additional data got put into SVN and that's the cause? Since it's not just one PC, there must be something either in SVN or the EXE itself... Note this popup comes before our code even gets to run.

    I'm not terribly well-versed in CSS.. and don't know all of the major quirks yet. Maybe someone can help me. I've set up an image showing my code, a diagram of my DIVs, and examples of how it looks in IE versus Chrome/FF Can someone direct me to the proper way to go about this? It works fine in IE, but in Chrome and FF, one of the images is escaping its container, and the "content block" as I call it is going underneath the image it's supposed to be next to. Each of the components has a css class despite my diagram saying there's no css.. currently there's just some basic styling for those (padding, text-indent, etc). Thank you

    I'm running some research on how people search the web for specific types of information. I'd like to be able to set them up with a laptop and browser and then record a history of what they search for and what sites they visit. A Firefox or Chrome plugin would be ideal, but a standalone program is fine too. It doesn't need to be free, just quick and reliable. It doesn't need to be a general PC monitoring program (though that would be OK too) - it's only Web usage I need to track. I've found a few on the Web but am not sure which ones to trust. Your recommendations would be much appreciated.

    Yes, I know Windows 2000 will run end-of-life in this year, but we still have a lot of Windows 2000 boxes we try to migrate but no idea if all of them can be migrated this year... Recently I downloaded a new Sysinternals Suite (most recent file date 2010-03-25) and noticed that some tools just do not work on Windows 2000 any longer, which makes troubleshooting a lot harder. I checked all the tools in the suite to check which tools do not work, and dug through to find older versions that do work, but I don't know if there are more recent ones (with fewer bugs) available. I did not find any way to download old versions from Sysinternals website. :-( So here is my list: Does not work Works ADExplorer.exe 1.30.0.0 ?   • After reinstallation, Disk Cleanup disappears when I click OK.

    After I reinstalled Windows 7, Disk Cleanup stopped working. I can start Disk Cleanup and select the drive to clean, but when I click on the OK button, the window disappears. Any solutions? The one below was with an Error icon:-- EventData cleanmgr.exe 6.1.7600.16385 4a5bc5e1 Csi.dll 14.0.4733.1000 4b5662be c0000005 00135213 bbc 01cbd5be36b572bf F:\Windows\system32\cleanmgr.exe F:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE14\Csi.dll 75fa9599-41b1-11e0-b864-001966b2bcb6 I also used process explorer:- When i started disk cleanup, a cleanmgr.exe process appeared under explorer.exe.But when i clicked on the "OK" button after selecting the drive, cleanmgr.exe was there for some seconds before it disappeared. But a new process - WerFault.exe appeared under svchost.exe a few seconds after i clicked the "OK" button. It disappeared, too, from the process list after some time (i think it disappeared along with cleanmgr.exe).
