• Code generating SOAP Web Service Proxy objects yourself - C#/.NET 3.5/T4

  Is there a framework or code already available that will give me more control over the code that gets generated based off my web references? I'm working at a new company. And the Web Services Proxies are all self contained in their own assembly. I would really rather generate this whole project. Every time they change something on the Services-side (Java) the WSDL references have to be dropped and re-added. (I can't figure out what those guys are doing on their end that messes with the WSDL bad enough that this needs to be done so much) Their are 10 of these references. I'd rather codegen the whole thing at compile time. Every time. What are my options?

• Moving WSS sites to a new SharePoint 2010 Foundation server

  This existing question helps but it doesn't answer all my questions. I have WSS 3 running on Server1 (Server 2003) and its database is DBServer1 (SQL 2008). I have installed SharePoint 2010 Foundation on Server2 (Server 2008) with databases on DBServer2 (SQL 2008 R2). SP 2010 Foundation is up and running ok and it already has one newly created Web Application. Now my goal is to copy all sites from Server1/DBServer1 to Server2/DBServer2 (and eventually retire Server1/DBServer1). Could you please help me with a step-by-step list on how to accomplish this?   I have an ASP.Net Web site using .Net Membership with a SQL Server provider, so the users and roles are stored in the SQL tables created by Aspnet_regsql.exe. Is this architecture totally self-contained and portable, or are users in it somehow bound to the specific Web site on which they create their account? Put another way, if we create a bunch of users in dev or UAT, the back up and restore this database to another server, accessed under another domain name, should it still work just fine? We're seeing some odd behavior when we move the database, like users losing group affiliation and such, and I'm curious how portable and environment-agnostic this database really is. I have a sneaking suspicion that something is bound to the machine key or the domain.

  My web app (asp VB 2005) uses Windows authentication. If the user isn't part of a specific AD security group they don't get to edit the data; instead I redirect the user to a read-only page. The program works fine in the IDE. I published the web app to my laptop and Disabled anonymous access. When I ran the program I got redirected to the read-only page. I added a write event to the application event log to see what was going on, and found that the WindowsPrincipal.Identity.Name contained my laptop's ID, not my user name. I reassert: anonymous access is disabled in IIS and the web.config file has Windows Authentication. Can anyone suggest what else to check? Or can you explain what's going on?

• Delete Range of Data From Text File With PHP

  I want to delete a range of data from a text file using PHP. Let's assume the file contains the following: Hello, World! I want to delete everything from character 2 to character 7. The actual file I need to do this with is very large, so I don't want to have to read the large file in order to delete just a small, given range of data. The data contained within the given range is not known, so str_replace or preg_replace solutions wouldn't work anyways. Thanks!

• Backup and restore MySQL database without system access

  Hi guys, I am trying to move a database from 1 provider to another, the problem is that I don't have system access at either end (ie, no ssh), so I cannot use a mysqldump. I have already tried using MySQL Administrator, the backup took about 45 minutes, but when it came to restoring it was moving at a snails pace, and estimating 12+ hours. This is a live app so I need to keep the downtime to an absolute minimum. The database consists of 35 tables, a mixture of MyISAM and InnoDB, the whole thing comes to about 4.4GB. The source and destination databases are both running on very powerful servers. Any suggestions on a quick way of doing this will be gratefully received. Thanks

• Should I use custom exceptions to control the flow of application?

  Is it a good practise to use custom business exceptions (e.g. BusinessRuleViolationException) to control the flow of user-errors/user-incorrect-inputs??? The classic approach: I have a web service, where I have 2 methods, one is the 'checker' (UsernameAlreadyExists()) and the other one is 'creator' (CreateUsername())... So if I want to create a username, I have to do 2 roundtrips to webservice, 1.check, 2.if check is OK, create. What about using UsernameAlreadyExistsException? So I call only the 2. web service method (CrateUsername()), which contains the check and if not successfull, it throws the UsernameAlreadyExistsException. So the end goal is to have only one round trip to web service and the checking can be contained also in other web service methods (so I avoid calling the UsernameAlreadyExists() all the times..). Furthermore I can use this kind of business error handling with other web service calls completely avoiding the checking prior the call.

Our transatlantic project conference calls are getting confusing due to the various terms people use to describe the ASP.NET piece. Indeed, ASP.NET has its' own project terminology including 'Web Site' and 'Web Application' to both of which one can add a 'Web Service'. Is there any commonly-used name for this ASP.NET multi-purpose project piece?

(Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services) (yes, there really are two dots) Does anyone know how to resolve this so I can restore the backup?   I'd like to pre-store a bunch of function calls in a data structure and later evaluate/execute them from within another function. This works as planned for functions defined at namespace level with defn (even though the function definition comes after my creation of the data structure) but will not work with functions defined by let [name (fn or letfn inside the function.   I'm working on a report in Visual Studio 2008 with their Report tooling and I'm not sure how to approach this conceptually. I have a report I want to generate. At the top of the report will be a bunch of information about a customer of our site (Name, Address, Phone). Then below will be a chart of the purchases that customer has each month. My problem is that I want the content at the top of the page to use a query that selects from my Users table in my database. But then I need another query that gets all of the purchases grouped by month. I've thought one way to approach this would be to place a subreport on the parent report that only contained the chart. The parent report would have the details of the account. Is this the correct approach?

• WPF: Turning off animations, data binding temporarly for invisible objects?;)

  I have a window that contains a tab control - basically multiple sheets with visualizations on them. The visualtizations are: possible very resource intensive during rendering relying on constant data updates to update their underlying models Obviously only one sheet can be visible every time ;) Anyone knows of a good way to turn off all visualization, animations, data binding for a control / panel and it's contained controls? If I would find a way to do that, I could simply turn off all the invisible sheets and reactivate them as needed. The models must be kept running - some of the visual stuff is pretty complex and really relies on constant data updates, and recalculating it when someone switches tabs would be too hard.

  I often have a need to take a list of objects and group them into a Map based on a value contained in the object. Eg. take a list of Users and group by Country. • How do you move html from one div to another with Jquery without breaking javascript

  I have two divs for different sections of my webpage, a working and a reference section. One is fixed size, the other is variable sized and they are vertically stacked. I am trying to design it so that if you want to work on something in the reference pane, you click a link and it swaps all the data between the two panes. My idea was to do the following: var working = $("#working_pane").html(); var ref = $("#reference_pane").html(); $("#working_pane").html(ref); $("#reference_pane").html(working); The problem with this, is it seems that any javascript referenced inside of these panes (for example, in place editors) get broken upon switching. No javascript errors occur, it's just that nothing happens, like the javascript ties are broken. Is there any to move the html without breaking the javascript contained?

• Looking for a good Web Server that is cheap

  I am a Project Manager, and former Lead Developer for a software portal system that requires a forum software to run. I am in need of a server that is cheap, reliable, and supports the latest PHP (5.2+), MySQL, unlimited e-mails (preferably), a cPanel, multiple sub-domains (atleast 3+). Currently I am paying $34.95 USD/month (approx. $420 USD/year). This is too high for me to pay to keep the site running. I just recently became Project Manager and in charge of Finances and I'm extremely concerned for the future of Dream Portal. With those prices I'm not sure I'll be able to keep it running for too long. Can someone please tell me of a good server that meets all of the requirements that I listed above that is cheaper on a yearly basis? Note: Currently on a Dedicated Server with limited disk space at 15000 MB (15 GB), monthly bandwidth = 500000 MB, 50 emails limit, 20 sub-domains limit, 30 FTP accts., and 25 SQL Databases.

For example, imagine a Venn diagram-like intersection of two (equally sized) circles, with center-points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) and radii r1=r2. Additionally, we already know the two points of intersection of the circles are (xi1,yi1) and (xi2,yi2). How would one generate a list of all points (x,y) contained in both circles in an efficient manner? That is, it would be simple to draw a box containing the intersections and iterate through it, checking if a given point is within both circles, but is there a better way?

• Python `.pth` files and using relative paths

  I have a lot of development versions of packages installed with virtualenv under the default /src directory in the environment. Normally, I decided to do the development of my project under the /src directory afterwards. To add my directory to the Python path, I decided to eschew from using any absolute paths, since I'm going to have to move the project around with my friends. It's a Django application, so I was happy with putting environment.pth under the root that contained the path to my project and a wsgi in the same directory would call the sites module to parse environment.pth. All good. I was also looking to move the .pth file into site-packages, but I'm having trouble with relative paths that move up the directory tree. For: /env /lib /site-pacakges /src /myproject So, the .pth entry in site-packages to myproject should look like ../../src/myproject, but this doesn't seem to be working for me on Windows.

• jQuery Validation Plugin + equalTo Not Working

  Hey guys, Here is what I am currently using to attempt to validate a form. When I press submit with no values entered into the form, I get the error messages for each of the inputs as expected. However, no matter what I put in newpassword2 or newemail2 they never 'pass' validation. I've tried everything from copy and paste to making them one letter each to no success. Perhaps I am not using the equalTo attribute correctly... I've also verified that all the names of the selectors agree with the input id's on the form. Also, all of the inputs are contained within the form, so there aren't any outside of the form tags (I read that was an issue with someone else). $(document).ready(function() { $("#account_data").validate({ rules: { newpassword1: { required: true }, newpassword2: { equalTo: "#newpassword1" }, newemail1: { required: true, email: true }, newemail2: { equalTo: "#newemail1" } } }); }); Any help would be extremely appreciated! • Using RDL files in Web ReportViewer

  I want to use a rdl file with the query information stored in it. I don't want to have to convert it to a rdlc file. I have an ASP.NET app that I want to show the report. I thought I would use a ReportViewer on my page and then have it use the rdl file. However, I get an error and in researching it appears that I have to convert the file to an rdlc file. I don't want to strip out the data contained in the report. How can I show the report to the user by running the rdl report?

I need to replicate all at the new server (databases, jobs, DTSs, vinculated servers, etc). Edit: I mean SQLServer 2000 on both ends! • Image in absolute DIV is not positioning from containing DIV

  I have a DIV with position:absolute inside another with position:relative. But the inside DIV is flowing out of the other and positioning it self based on the browser not the containing DIV. Any ideas why this is happening?
